Taji didn't have much of a grasp on the business side. The most she contributed was picking the color of napkins (a nice ember orange, almost the color of her older sister's hair) when they had to order new ones a few years back. She was in the middle of folding them now and getting them ready for the dinner service later that night.
It was a quiet Saturday afternoon, just a little after 3, well into the dead lull that occurred between the lunch and dinner rush. Her mom was in the back deshelling shrimp, and because they didn't get a lot of people during this time, the servers wouldn't be arriving for another hour. Jennie, her sister and the inspiration for the restaurant, was around somewhere too -- probably helping Delphine. Taji longed to go back into the kitchen herself (she was getting really good at slicing vegetables for the jumbo), but the last time she had asked, all the adults around her had mumbled something about child labor laws and health regulations.
Not that she minded being delegated to napkin and silverware duty. She had recently watched a youtube video about making animals out of napkins, and was steadily producing a line of slightly lumpy shapes that might sort of look like flamingos if you tilted your head at an angle and squinted. She sat at a table near the front, and appeared to be the only visible person in the restaurant at all.
