Situated on the corner of a busy downtown (way downtown) street, Jennie's Place was the sort of local favorite that was never overly crowded but still attracted purple prose reviews on Yelp. Taji went through them sometimes -- her mother had the habit of leaving the page open on their family computer -- and often wondered what exactly a "mystical hole in the wall place" was supposed to describe, considering the restaurant was in perfectly good shape and had a front door besides, thank you very much DestinyGurl661. It was only recently that her mom, Delphine, had started expanding into catering; being that they were surrounded by the office buildings of the lower avenues of Destiny City, they did brisk business around lunch, and somehow that meant that there would probably be good money in providing food for business meetings or weddings.

Taji didn't have much of a grasp on the business side. The most she contributed was picking the color of napkins (a nice ember orange, almost the color of her older sister's hair) when they had to order new ones a few years back. She was in the middle of folding them now and getting them ready for the dinner service later that night.

It was a quiet Saturday afternoon, just a little after 3, well into the dead lull that occurred between the lunch and dinner rush. Her mom was in the back deshelling shrimp, and because they didn't get a lot of people during this time, the servers wouldn't be arriving for another hour. Jennie, her sister and the inspiration for the restaurant, was around somewhere too -- probably helping Delphine. Taji longed to go back into the kitchen herself (she was getting really good at slicing vegetables for the jumbo), but the last time she had asked, all the adults around her had mumbled something about child labor laws and health regulations.

Not that she minded being delegated to napkin and silverware duty. She had recently watched a youtube video about making animals out of napkins, and was steadily producing a line of slightly lumpy shapes that might sort of look like flamingos if you tilted your head at an angle and squinted. She sat at a table near the front, and appeared to be the only visible person in the restaurant at all.

Caleb looked down at his watch. Late, he was, and he still had so much to do! Getting information for wedding catering was his last big errand on his to-do list, followed by making dinner for his missus-to-be. The redhead was a picky sort only because he knew how much the wedding day would mean to Makayla, and he'd been through three restaurants already. One was fancy Italian but the chef's arrogant attitude really turned him off. The second was nondescript American something-or-other but the place had a bad odor about it. The third was decent Mediterranean but the place was so expensive, it would blow the budget the pair had for flowers and catering right out of the water.

And so Caleb had had enough and stopped in front of a little shop to rest on the bench outside. He'd done the vast majority of his errand running today on foot - parking in downtown was exorbitantly expensive and trying to find parking near all of his destinations was near impossible, so the car was left in the parking garage about six blocks away and the redhead was left to hoof it, as it were. He was about to give up and pulled his phone out of his pocket to send a text to Makayla. That was when he looked up.

Jennie's Place didn't have a fancy ring to it, but it wasn't busy and... what was the harm in asking? Saying he'd visited four places sounded much better than just three. And so, with a sigh, Caleb stood up, brushed off his slacks and gingerly walked inside. There he saw a little girl folding napkins, but the rest of the place looked all but abandoned.

"Ah, excuse me, miss?" he asked, trying not to startle a little girl concentrating so completely on napkins. He so adored children but didn't want to come off as a creep. "Is this restaurant open? I was hoping to speak to the owner about possible catering."
