She had talked with her father long ago of how she felt bound to the earth, trapped to it. It wasn't that she didn't love the sea, she did. It was a part of her so ingrained that she didn't even have to really think about it. But the heavens called to her two, and yet she stayed bound to earth with no wings or chance of flight. She would never soar closer to the stars she loved, and for which she was named. There was something sad about that, something awful about it. And tonight when the stars felt so close, she wondered how it would feel to be even closer to them. But she would never know.

Stardust had long given up on the chance any sort of reconciliation with Hazalinia. He could not begrudge the mare for finding herself a mate who was attentive to her. It didn't stop the stallion from occasionally swinging by to spend a little bit of time with the family. It was painful on each visit and as a result he started extending the time between visits. He'd now been away from the group for over a year.
Stardust listened for the familiar croaking of Andromeda before sighing. Even his familiar seemed to have disappeared from his immediate area. The stallion gave the skies above him a glancing look before shaking his head. The heavens held no answers for him to decipher. Life was not as easy as it seemed anymore.

The sound of someone approaching mad her turn her head, the water lapping in the distant faded away as she saw a male a little ways away. His coat shone like the stars from the sky, like her own. His hair was soft white that seemed to shine almost blindingly in the night, and his eyes were a sky blue.
He was older, how much older she could not say. But definitely not old. He was in fine shape, the thought made her blush. Since when had she come to appraise males in such a way? One moment she was sulking at not having wings and the next drooling at some strange stallion...
And yet, of the two, she'd much rather be drooling. She moved closer to him, it was likely not wise. She didn't know him, but it was better than standing her lamenting a life she would never have.
"Hello," she called out.

Stardust almost could not catch sight of the mysterious speaker. His eyes scanned the horizon before the moonlight picked out highlights of a mare's form. Stardust paused in his stride allowing the mare to come closer to him. As she neared him Stardust could pick out an intriguing detail that this mare possessed. She had fins. How ... unusual. Stardust dipped his head in a polite, if not, silent greeting before picking up on the markings running down the mare's leg and what seemed to be a design of stars along her flank. For a moment it seemed as if it was his meeting with Hazalinia all over again. However this was a different time and different place. That meeting was long over and the terrain was behind him. The sound of waves reached his ears. Was the ocean that close? The stallion must have lost track of where he was wandering these days.
Stardust cleared his throat before he found his voice, "Good evening to you miss."

She watched him as he moved. The ocean waves were crashing not far from her feet. The ocean should call to her more than the sky, but it did not call to her in the same way. She could go beneath the waves, love the water and still miss the stars.
"What brings you out here?" She looked at him with her pale eyes, wondering why he was out here by the sea. As he got closer, she could see the details of the stars on his side, and her eyes traced the paths. Were these a map to the heavens?
Her own coat was peppered with stars, but not like his. His was like stardust and enchantment. The wind blew in her face and lifted her hair, made her braid blow as she watched him. "Are you here for the stars too?"

Stardust could feel the wind ruffle his mane and tail before digesting the mare's question. Was he here for the stars? On impulse Stardust craned his neck skyward to gaze at the heavens above him. At first Stardust lost himself in the view before remembering that the mare was waiting for an answer. He let his eyes travel across the horizon until they rested once more on the mare before him. At this time of night only the markings that crossed her flank were totally visible.
The stallion cleared his throat and thought carefully over his answer before speaking rather softly. "I don't know if I am here for the stars or just for a change of scenery. It seems like I might have wandered off track somewhere but this," and Stardust motioned to the sound of crashing waves before continuing, "This is different."

She watched him lose himself in the heavens. She wondered if he felt bound to earth to? When he looked back at her, she could see how he was coming back from somewhere far away. "This is my home," she smiled at him closing her eyes for a moment.
The sound of the waves behind her made her think of childhood. She breathed deeply the smell of salt and sweat. "Have you not been to the see before?"

Stardust let his gaze travel past the mare to the area where the sounds seemed to be coming from. He let the sounds of the waves wash over him for a brief while before letting his attention return to the mare. He inhaled deeply the scent of brine on the air before shaking his head. "I have heard stories of the massive expanse of water that others call the sea or ocean but I have never seen it before."
Stardust let that sink in before looking around at the land that was washed in moonlight. The scenery was breath taking in the right light. "Your home is very lovely. You are lucky to live in such a place."

She inclined her head towards him, "Thank you." She let her feet wade in the shallow water. "It's strange you say that, when I keep wishing that somehow I could be closer to the stars." She kicked her feet in the water, letting the salty water get on her chest and flanks.
"It seems that we are fickle creatures that always want what we cannot have."

Stardust canted his head to the side to observe the mare. What was it that drew her to the stars? Was it the same thing that had drawn him to the ocean? The stallion paused to listen to the waves lapping at the shore before sighing softly. What had driven him to explore this land that he knew next to little about? Stardust cleared his throat before thinking carefully on how to reply to the mare's last statement.
"I seem to know what you mean by being fickle. It is a strange feeling is it not?"
Stardust paused, his next set of questions would be clearly personal. "I am curious though: Why do you wish to be closer to the stars? What is it that draws you to them?"

"What is there that doesn't?" She smiled at him, feeling a sudden blush creeping up her neck. "They are so lovely, so distant and bright. The sun may eclipse them for awhile, but in the end they come back. And they shine on and on, forever. They help to guide when we are lost, they comfort us at night. Who wouldn't want to be like that? To know that they make some impression, matter in some way to others?"
She blushed even deeper, "Sorry. That's just....sometimes, I speak before I think. What about you? What draws you here? Why do the tides call to you?"

Understanding dawned in Stardust's mind with the mare's answer to his question. In a way it made perfect sense for her to be drawn to the stars in such a way. Perhaps it was not so strange for her to admit that. Stardust moved past the mare to stare at the expanse of water that he had heard so much about but had never understood. In the back of his mind he had no apparent reason for coming here except to experience the sensation of something new. The darkness would have hid the mare's blush from him even if he had been facing her but something in the cadence of her voice gave way to the fact that she might have been embarrassed.
Stardust turned around and sighed. "It's okay. I don't mind individuals that speak their mind. Truth be told I wasn't really drawn to the sea except to experience the sights and sounds of something new. I do not know if that counts or not," here he paused before executing a simple bow to the mare, "to whom do I have the pleasure of meeting this night? My name is Stardust."

She could feel the heat of his body as he moved past her in the cooling night. Andromeda smiled at his honesty. There was, naturally, something in her that was curious about the stars. They were distant, beautiful and a place she would never go to. Perhaps, part of it was wanderlust. A part of it was the ache for something strange and new just like he said. She smiled brightly at his named, so pure and simple. "I'm Andromeda's Nocturne," she laughed lightly. "Seems we were both named for the heavens." Wading out into the water, she splashed about. The water felt cool on her skin, she hadn't realized how parched she'd felt. It soothed her dry skin and she felt refreshed. "Why don't you try it? Would be a shame to come so far without testing the waters?" She looked back at him to see if he would follow.

Stardust caught the name of the mare and gave the softest of chuckles at her proclamation. It did seem as if they were both named after the heavens. Stardust watched as the mare moved into the shallow water and began to splash around a little bit. He cocked his head to the side as he observed Andromeda as she waded around. He sighed before hearing the question that she had posed to him.
Stardust glanced at the waters, which seemed calm, before stepping forward and letting the water swirl around his hooves. "I suppose it would be a shame to pass up this opportunity of experiencing the ocean."
As the stallion felt the coolness of the water surround his hooves he glanced back to where Andromeda stood. "By the way it is a pleasure to meet you Andromeda."

"Is it everything you imagined it would be? The feel and look of the ocean? It wasn't disappointing was it?" She sighed dreamily. "If I had wings, I couldn't possibly be disappointed with what it felt like to fly." She smiled delighted at him. "Thank you. I'm happy to have met you." Andromeda kicked a hoof and splashed water lightly at him while casting a small smirk in his direction.
