Things had felt...strange, recently. The weather was still relatively nice; sunny with a slight breeze, little poofy clouds here and there, almost perfect, really, but even so, Rion couldn't appreciate it as much as he wanted to. Maybe he had just finally realized that he wasn't a foal anymore. That was sure a heavy hitter, in its own way. Both of his sisters had left, one more suddenly than the other, and neither of his parents had reacted much. Yes, leaving was normal, but without one word? Not even a hint of her plans? Just run away during the night? HE sure never wouldn't have done that no matter WHAT the circumstances might have been. Jeesh!
Maybe Rion wasn't used to being lonely. Well, not ALONE lonely. It just wasn't the same with his parents. They had been there since his birth, same as his sisters, yes, but... They didn't GET it. You couldn't have sibling squabbles or play fights with adults who were always bigger than you. There were different limits and expectations and stuff. It was hard to explain.
And maybe it was time for him to leave for a bit, too. Come to grips with things, see the world! Well...maybe not THAT much of it, but at least a little beyond the lake. He felt like he had lived there FOREVER, and it was kind of boring after all this time. At least hee had been to the village too many times to count, and he had been to the beach a few times, but he had always eye-spied the northeast forests that his parents never seemed to notice themselves. Forest were spiritual places, right? Maybe he could clear his head or something. Yeah! That sounded like a good plan. So he had started early in the morning, swimming on over at his leisure. This was exciting! No one could tell him what to do or where he couldn't go, but...it sure would've been nice to have someone to talk to, at least.
He had almost hit the shore when his long, winding hair got stuck in the OTHER kind of horsetail (the green plant stuff non-kelpis ate for whatever reason). He let out a sharp cry and started floundering in the most embarrassing fashion until he realized it wasn't one of his family members (or Nessie) messing with him.
