Newgrange was not accustomed to powering up, nor was it something he thought he would ever be accustomed to doing. It was cold, unfriendly, and despite having a cat explain everything as best as she could, he still felt hopelessly overwhelmed.

But he was not the sort of person to give up—especially when someone was counting on him, and if what Julienne had said was correct, there were people out there that were depending on him to try his hardest.

So, he had closed up the bakery, powered up, and was trying to pretend like the cold didn't bother him. He ran his gloved hands up his arms to try and stimulate warmth; while there wasn't snow on the ground, if it had rained right now he was sure it would be snow before it hit the ground.

Unsure yet of where was a good place to be or how he was supposed to conduct his business, Newgrange kept what he hoped was a safe distance from the bakery to patrol. He didn't want to attract any youma back there, but neither did he want to stray too far from his safety zone.

It helped that there was some vague aura pulsating near where he was patrolling, and his understanding of things was that when that happened there was an ally—or, at least, someone good around.

He might not yet know what he was doing, but maybe they did, right?

Dispelling all concerns and hesitation, Newgrange tried to track the aura. It was something he needed more work with, but within a few minutes he found himself spotting a girl in a strange outfit in the distance—and he cleared his throat to try and garner her attention before he called, "Hey!" to her. He tried to sound friendly, as he didn't want to scare her, though he was already worried that anyone he approached wearing this outfit, this late at night, was going to think he was up to no good.

Her fingers were laced together and resting on her head as she wandered around, brows knitting tightly. Things weren't... easy for her right now. Her mind was not on patrolling at all. Instead, she was thinking about Amytis had told her about the Dark court and how appealing it sounded. But she was also thinking about lovely Ida, her hero. She bit down on her bottom lip and shook her head. Machholz had no idea what to do anymore. She dropped one hand to her neck and rubbed it before looking ahead of her, finally. She was already powered up, always doing that as soon as she jumped to the roof of her house before starting to patrol the area.

However, when her pale eyes opened she realized she didn't know where she was anymore. Huh. Funny. Machholz frowned again and just bit down on a fingernail, bending it backwards a bit as she realized she was in a park. Right... She would power down later and read street signs or something to find her way back. Then again, she wasn't really worried about it. Machholz always found her way back home.

"Mn..." She was so entranced with her conflicting thoughts that she hadn't even felt that vague aura near her.

For a moment, Newgrange hesitated, looking at the senshi before him. He froze, mid-step, torn between approaching her and just turning around to try and pretend he hadn't said anytihng at all. He put his foot down and looked at her before making up his mind; he cleared his throat loudly and tried again. "Excuse me?" he asked a bit louder, waving to try and help get her attention. "Ma'am?"

What he had intended to be just an introduction—maybe some questions, advice, something—turned into him worrying that something was wrong. The girl in front of him seemed deep in thought—more so than seemed healthy while powered up and wandering around an unfriendly area.

"I'm Newgrange," he said uncertainly, and then cut right to the chase: "Are you all right?"

Pale eyes blinked in surprise when a ma'am was said and she actually looked at it. She was only nineteen! She was not a ma'am! She let out an annoyed huff before looking the boy over. Boy? Man? Teenager. That was better. "Oh, me?" She said, blinking a little.

Honestly she hadn't realized anyone had seen her or that she was somewhere she could be seen. Frowning a little bit she nodded. "Mmn.. I'm fine, just have a lot on my mind. Newgrange, huh?" She looked him over and tilted her head a little, tapping a finger against her lips. Was this another knight? Or was he a male senshi? She hated how she didn't know anything.

"I'm sorry, but.. Ah, are... you a knight?" If he didn't know what she was talking about, she would feign sleepiness and leave. His energy wasn't just human, it was vaguely familiar, but she couldn't place it.

He blinked and then flashed a quick smile. "Yeah, knight. Well, page, but."

But what was the difference?

A bit more comfortable now that she had noticed him, he approached until he was a comfortable distance for conversation. "I'm still…pretty new to all of this. In fact, you're the first senshi I've met other than," he hesitated and bit his tongue, unsure of how much information was all right to share. She felt like she was a good senshi—that meant he could trust her, right? "My sister," he finally finished, shifting positions. "But she's…quite a bit younger than you."

Newgrange looked a bit more relaxed now and rested his hands on his hips. "If…I may ask, what's on your mind, is it…related to this whole powering up thing? The whole…senshi, knight…youma thing?"

He was having his own doubts about a lot of it, but he didn't know where he was supposed to turn or who there was to talk to; he didn't want to pry, but he was driven to find answers, one way or another.

So his sister shared the same fate? Was that common? If she had a sister, would her sister be a senshi? Or a Nega? More food for thought as she listened to him, brows knitting. "There are..younger senshi? How much younger is younger?" Not kids. There couldn't be children senshi. That made her really sad to think about, exposing them to a world of chaos and pain. Hopefully they had someone protecting them, teaching them things.

"Huh?" She'd drifted off and then nodded. "Something like that. ...The whole, we're awoken by a cat, and then kind of pushed out there? That's what I'm feeling. I've only met... ..a handful of other senshi." One other Order senshi, and a couple Dark Mirror Senshi, it seemed. Giving him a little smile, she put her hands behind her back and just shrugged.

"Is it like that for you pages? ....I mean, told 'go fight the youma and defend the earth' but hardly any more details?"

"My sister, she's young," Newgrange answered of his sister. "Only twelve."

Not young enough to be out fighting monsters in his opinion, but she was a smart, helpful girl and he had faith in her. If Julienne had trusted her to save the world…shouldn't he?

"I think the cat gave her some information, but the cat—Julienne—dind't have much she could do for me. I mean, she answered my questions, helped me understand some things, but…there was apparently only so much she could do for me. Not that I blame her!" he insisted quickly, though deflated as he rolled his shoulders to try and work out the knots he'd built up. "It's just that…I still have a lot of questions and don't know who to ask. My understanding of things are pretty much that there are monsters called youma wandering the streets and if people like us don't try to stop them, good, innocent people are going to be hurt. So…"

He didn't like thinking that he was involved in something without having the full story but he was, and it seemed like every answer only raised new questions. "I was…actually kind of hoping that you might know who I could talk to so I could figure more out, but…"

It didn't seem like she was any more confident in her knowledge of the way things were than he was.

"I suppose I…I want to learn, I really do, I just…can't wrap my mind around all of this. Yet. I have so many questions and…I don't know who has the answers—if anyone."

Twelve years old and expected to defend the earth? That was harsh. A hand went to her chest and she rubbed it lightly. That poor girl. Machholz's expression was one of concern and pity. "...Yeah.. I have questions.. I talked with Ida and she answered.. some, but there's not a whole lot of us. A-at least that I've met." Mach wasn't uncomfortable, she just found this a little awkward, even if she was the one that started this conversation. "The cat that woke me up, I guess, *********, yeah. Scurried right off. I ... don't know. I think it just kind of sucks we're thrown out there."

The senshi sighed and ran a hand through her hair and hen over the back her neck before nodding. "I mean.. I want to learn too, but other than Ida I don't know too many.. other senshi?" She tapped her bottom lip with a fingernail before clicking her tongue.

"...It seems like we're just going to have to learn these things slowly, right?"

Newgrange nodded, resisting the urge to sigh. It was more than overwhelming to think that there was so much out there that they didn't know—and worse, didn't have any idea how to find out. "I guess trial and error—and hoping to run into someone who's already figured things out, right?"

He flashed a small, hopeful smile; he wasn't at all going to sugar coat just how much he'd come to realize that they had to learn on their own, but he wasn't going to sit around with a defeatist attitude. It wasn't so overwhelming that he'd considered just not powering up, but just enough to keep him on his toes. And wondering how long it was going to take for him to feel comfortable doing this.

"Well—hey, if you figure anything out, you'll have to tell me, all right!" he said, flashing a smile. "And if I run into any experienced Senshi, I'll tell them to be on the lookout for you!"
