CHARACTERS INVOLVED: Sir Theodore ((Draven)) and Princess May ((Mayaa))
SUMMARY: A typical morning in the life of a knight charged with following his princess around, this morning they are hunting for phoenix eggs.
ENTRY HERE:

The feathers fell in a flurry of color as over two hundred young phoenixes took to the air. Princess May ran underneath them, her own feathers just as brilliant. The harpy wore a great big smile on her face. “Look at them all, Sir Theodore! They are all so pretty!”

“Yes, Princess, they are.” The night with the black feathers kind of sighed but he was still smiling. It was nice to see her happy after all the traveling, and he was happy, too, to know that their journey was almost over. It hadn’t been the longest journey he’d ever been on, or the most difficult adventure, but it was a little bit tedious.

“Do you think we’ll find it here? Do you think we’ll finally have it? Where do you think we should look first? Over there?!” The princess was off, bounding over the rocks towards what appeared to be the phoenix nests.

“Princess, you really should NOT go running off!” It wasn’t the edge of cliff the knight was worried about, she could fly after all, but the rocks under her feet. Wings wouldn’t keep her from tripping and landing on her face. He really didn’t want to deal with that.

“Oh! I’ll be fine, silly knight! Now come help me- Ow!” He knew it. She’d forgotten to watch her step and BAM! Into the dirt she went.

This time he sighed, but he also hurried to help her. “Are you okay?”

“Yes, I think so. In the name of Jack, who put that rock there?”

Theodore helped her up and watched as she dusted herself off. She didn’t look hurt, which was a good thing because there were a lot of sharp rocks lying around. “No one,” he laughed. “Come, let’s look for that egg.”

Her eyes got big again, shining brightly in the sun. “Yes!”

Theodore only watched as she bolted off again, already forgetting the fact that she had just fallen. Silly little ghoul of a harpy princess, always running around without a care. Sir Theodore chuckled. He slowly began to follow after her again, catching up just when she arrived at the stony outcropping on which the phoenixes kept their nests. A few of the birds flapped around and squawked at the princess, and Sir Theodore made sure to keep his eye on them. If they attacked there could be trouble.

“These all just look like normal eggs, Theodore.” The princess sounded a little bit sad. “Orange and dark and rainbowy, but no super shiny blue.” He watched as she carefully combed through each nest. The parent phoenixes scowled and squawked, but most had flown away earlier, and the rest seemed more afraid of the princess than not. Or maybe they knew she wouldn’t hurt their babies. Theodore still scowled at them. They had better stay back.

“Do you think we’ll find it?” Princess May sounded sad now, peering into a nest with an orange egg.

“I don’t know, Princess. The Shining Phoenix is a legend, no one can even agree on what it really looks like. I don’t think we’d find it after just one morning of looking.” One very, very, very long morning of looking. It was possibly past lunchtime. As he’d noted before, he’d had tougher assignments. But escorting the princess out to look for a legendary phoenix egg? He didn’t know what to think about this assignment.

“It’s not here.” She looked like she might cry. Theodore couldn’t stand that look on her face, and he did not want to deal with a crying ghoul, especially not when she was his princess.

“Never fear, Princess. We have leave until sunset, and we’ve only checked three of the known nesting sites. There are still more places to look.” He tried to give her a hopeful smile.

“Do you really think we’ll find it?” She grinned and looked at him hopefully.

“I don’t know.” He wasn’t going to lie to her. Knights didn’t lie. “But we can try.”

“I think,” she grinned even wider and grabbed hold of his arm, “that if we can’t find it nearby, I might have to set out on a quest for it.” She started to drag him away from the nests and off to the south, where there were more cliffs and more nesting sites.

“A quest?” Sir Theodore didn’t like the sound of that.

“Princesses can go on quests, too, just like knights.” She stated this. “And I’m as old as you are and you went on your quest last year.”

“I did. And you are.” He could only agree.

“I’m sure father will let me. He knows how badly I want the Shining Phoenix.”

“He might.”

“I’ll search the whole kingdom if I have to!” Princess May grinned up at Sir Theodore. “And you’ll come with me! Think of how much fun it will be!”

“Oh, Princess, I don’t know if this is a good idea.”

“That’s what you said this morning when I wanted to come out here and look for the egg. And look at how much fun we’re having! It can only be better on a real, honest-to-Jack Quest!” Her smiled was wide and her feathers shone in the pumpkin sun that shone down on her father’s kingdom. He had to admit it was nice to have a princess as happy as she was pretty. His knight friend in the next kingdom over had to put up with tantrums from his Princess. Talk of silly quests was better than yelling and screaming any day.

Happy as his Princess was, Sir Theodore hoped they’d find the egg that afternoon. He really didn’t know if he wanted her dragging him all across the land. But at least while she was literally dragging him around by the arm, she wasn’t likely to trip over her own feet.

REVIEW HERE: More action! The knight fending off some birds in an epic battle with talons would have been awesome! Also, does the knight and the princess get married? This is very important.
