╫Dogs of Odin╫

Established in Seattle, Washington, Odin Corp is a laboratory specializing in genetic alterations and inorganic modifications to biological systems. Originally they specialized in genetically modified organisms (GMO's) but as the technology grew and the rumors of war became a reality their scope widened. Soon advanced war dogs became a staple in modern warfare. These noble dogs were greatly flawed and over time their bodies began to break down as the modifications to their bodies began to turn on them.

As the war waged on, the beasts and the technology streamlined. Soon war dogs were running the front lines, pulling wounded soldiers from the front and dispatching the enemy from behind the scenes. The war eventually came to an end but the demand for the modified beasts continued to grow. Police dogs, search and rescue, pest control, and a variety of other venues opened up for the corporation and animals were brought in behind their stainless steel doors to have their bodies subjected to science. Some were bred right within the facility and picked from their litters if they showed the proper qualities for enhancement. Others were simple test subjects, stepping stones to a better product.

While it is not unheard of, some Odin beasts have managed to take their fate into their own hands.

Among the last of the war-dogs were among the first to break their chains and charge into the wild to live out their lives. This is not and will not be the norm for Odin beasts as the surveillance and tracking for the beasts has increased since the original break-out. Most Beasts of Odin will be born and raised within the corporation and work for their creators in a variety of fields.

The Facility ||

Every facility is made of up several parts. Firstly, there is the laboratory. This is actually the smallest part of the Odin Corp buildings. This is where the testing, experimentation, and alterations of the dogs actually occurs. A very small staff of scientists and engineers work in this area and it is exceedingly well guarded by both human and canine guards. It is extremely unlikely that any experiment can come or go without being caught within the core of the corporation.

Most animals will be familiar with the kennels. Strays that are on death row within the city are sometimes transported instead to the Odin Corp. Certain traits and qualities are sought after in the new animals that are brought in. Some animalss will be selected for experimentation, others will be re-trained as guard dogs, and some, sadly, will be terminated if they are unable to provide a use to the company. There are exceedingly few actual Odin Beasts as successful experiments are fairly recent things. The pioneers into genetic and electronic alterations have mostly passed away due to health complications. The majority of the dogs on-site are highly trained career dogs that assist the labs.

These dogs range from guards to bomb dogs. They control substances going in or out of the facility, alert their handlers to any intruders or attempts at escape, and keep wild animals far from the perimeter. For the most part, the beasts of Odin are very well cared for and live comfortable lives. It's the few that are found to be of too little or too much use to the facility that endure any hardships.

Another area Odin beasts are familiar with are the breeding facilities. Dogs and cats are sometimes selectively bred for traits and qualities that will better allow them to survive experimentation, to better serve on the facility, or that will better assist in training new beasts to assist on the grounds. Most beasts that are born on the facility lead very comfortable lives with handlers that look after their well-being from the time they are weaned.

Surprisingly, the majority of the facility is an open hundred-acre field. The dogs are exercised, allowed to roam, and are run through trails out in the field. It's hardly a life of steel and concrete 24/7. The dogs that have proven themselves trustworthy are often allowed to enjoy the outdoors in the off time.

The perimeter is fenced and reinforced. There are canine and human guards on the ground and in watch towers to ensure that nothing comes or goes without their saying so. The only way in and out are through guarded checkpoints- of which there are only four. On the grounds are also bunkers for the on-site staff, a mess hall, a parking garage, and a shipping yard.

Currently there is only one escaped Odin dog! The assassin-dog, Loki, escaped not from the facility itself, but from his handler following a demonstration of his abilities off-grounds. His peers, Thor and Captain Rodgers, are actively involved in searching for and re-capturing the escaped animal. This may change in the future, but this is the current state of events for Odin Corp, Seattle.

╫How to get an Odin Beast ╫

••• Odin Quests
Before you can even begin applying for a custom Odin beast, you must set up a quest in our quest subforum and that quest must be approved by a staff member. You can set one up and let others critique it for a time. When you feel it's ready, you can PM the mule with a critique request. Please send us your quest thread. Make sure that this thread is ready for us to view! If your quest seems reasonable, we'll give it a stamp of approval and add it to the approved experiments list. There may be some problems with your quest! If there are some concerns, the staff will pm you back with their own critique.

► Set up a quest thread in the URL=http://www.gaiaonline.com/guilds/viewforum.php?f=1361969]quest subforum. Include the custom form provided here, filled out fully.
► Peer review is completely optional but is highly recommended.
► Once you feel your quest is ready, pm the mule (Gohei Takeda) a critique request. Make sure that you include a link to your quest.
► The staff will either contact you with an approval announcement or their own critique. Make requested changes and re-apply when you feel are ready if you are rejected.
► Only approved quests can apply for customs.
► Odin beasts will always be on unique lineart.

••• Quest Guidelines
For starters, you can read over the post regarding the Odin beasts here to get a general idea of what an Odin dog is. You can also browse through the approved experiments and the Odin Beasts that have been completed to get an idea of what has passed as acceptable.

Powers ||
○ All Odin beasts possess the following enhancements: Fast healing, longer life-span, enhanced physical strength and fortitude.
○ Odin beasts cannot be silver fangs or seers.
○ Odin beasts are rarely both genetically modified and modified with inorganic components.
○ Odin beasts are typically enhanced to perform a specific function to benefit mankind, not the animal kingdom.
○ General vague examples of genetic modifications include, but are not limited to, super speed, super strength, advanced thermal control (hot dogs!), bioluminescence, echolocation, etc.
○ General vague examples of inorganic modifications include, but are not limited to, mechanical limbs, collars that translate human to animal and animal to human, battle armor, etc.
○ Powers should be limited to 1-2 at the very most. We don't want super dogs running about! Every Odin dog has strengths but they are still mortal animals.
○ Enhancements should be reasonable. Again, dogs with horns, wings, another head, another limb, etc. wouldn't serve much of a purpose in the modern world. Odin corp is creating service dogs, not Frankenstein beasts.

••• Common Courtesy
• We understand that eventually Odin beasts may share some traits, powers, and modifications, but please try to be original! Please try not to make your idea too close to someone else's.
• As with all customs, do NOT take ideas from someone's deviantart or original characters elsewhere. We will allow Odin beast cosplays, but they must be mainstream characters.
• OC cosplays are allowed- if they are yours.
• If your quest is rejected, don't be a sore sport about it. The staff will try to be fair and sometimes that means asking for some ideas to change. We don't want there to be godmoding or metagaming in our shop.
