Since coming out of the forest after her year of depression Taja had been wandering aimlessly around the Kawani lands. She felt happier than she had been in quite some time but there was still a few pieces of herself that were missing. Trying to find them again was proving difficult. Before her life had flipped upside down Taja would smile without a care in the world, however, now she would only only do so if there was a genuine reason behind it. Which she supposed was probably a good thing. Not all the changes that had occurred within her were bad.
The mare came to a halt as she looked at a tree that had some bark stripped off its trunk. Taja felt a little less awful about taking some more considering some patches were missing already. The mare chewed small pieces of bark and even sucked on a couple just to savor the taste. Not that there was much to taste to begin with but it was better than not eating at all. Snow still littered the ground but there were signs that spring was on its way. Taja wasn't sure what her favorite season was but Spring had to be in her top two choices. "Hmm. I wonder when the berries will begin to grow again." She said to herself out loud while looking at a hibernating bush. Despite seeing the seasons change many times before the mare found that she was incapable of judging just how long they would last. Obviously she had never paid much attention to the world around her--at least for a select few things.
Taja once more picked up her walking, heading towards the forest and debating on where to go next. During the summer she had spent most of her days on the beach and had encounter a few new soquili but none had really stuck around with her. Not that she had thought they would. Those interactions had been very helpful and encouraging. She felt stronger for having them. Interacting with others after so long of isolating herself but there had been some improvement. The mare was trying hard to make further progress but found that many were keeping themselves holed up while the snow fell. At least there were no more blizzards. Maybe it was more accurate to say that she had moved on from the area in which there were blizzards. "It's still cold though." She said, looking down at her hooves that made a crunching sound each time they touched the ground. Her breath still came out in a puff of white air when she exhaled. Briefly she wondered if she could find an abandoned cave or makeshift den where she could warm up for a bit. How long had she been walking? The mare shivered as she contemplated the time of day it had been when she began to now. The sun had not quite come up. Now it was in the middle of the sky and beginning to make its way down. Wow, it had been a long time since she had really stopped.

Heartbroken and unwanted.
The stallion walked what felt like an endless path across the landscape feeling his body weak from the lack of sleep as well as the pact of nutrition. He didn't even know the last time he had a meal that was filling and honestly didn't know if he wanted one. He felt like his world was completely black and white. He felt like everything was just on a downward spiral all the time. Ever since he lost his mate, his children, and his best friend, he wasn't all that there in his mind. He wished so much that he could see Taja again. The one mare that was always there when he needed her to be and the one mare that made him happy even when he was so sad. He needed someone like that right now. He needed that so badly right now. But that was all in the past. He hadn't seen Taja in a long time and she was probably off with her own family by now. A part of him hoped that wasn't the case since he would love to stumble upon her again like old times, but it was all a fading dream.
He let out a low sigh feeling the cold n** at is coat feeling as though he was going to suffer from some kind of a sickness soon if he didn't find a shelter. His old home had too many memories and he had been wandering around in search of a new place to stay. There was nothing though. All the cold and all the endless walking was getting to him. Even the loneliness was becoming too much to handle.
He stopped walking at the sight of another in the distance, but he felt like his eyes had been deceiving him. He felt like it was all a lie because it looked like Taja. No it couldn't be her and she couldn't be here right now. This old stallion wasn't lucky ever and didn't think he could be lucky enough to see her again. "Taja..?" He nearly called out as he walked further at a slow pace feeling the cold and the tiredness beginning to get to him. He hoped it was true. He hoped so much that it was her and not his eyes deceiving him.

Taja hadn't noticed that anyone was nearby as she was too preoccupied by her own thoughts to be concerned about someone sneaking up on her. Then her ears perked at the sound of her name. Wait, was that her name? The mare turned her head from side to side in an attempt to find the one that called her. Neither direction yielded any sign of another so that left only the rear. It seemed more likely that she was imagining hearing her name. The voice had even seemed familiar, although she couldn't quite place where it was from. Then she turned and her olive eyes landed on a black stallion with purple swirls and a golden mane. Taja had to blink a couple times and even squint in before she believed the sight before her. "Heha? Heha-Nimsup?" She called back softly. The mare noticed he was walking towards her and she quickly helped bridge the gap that was between them.
When the mare was finally only a few steps in front of him her eyes went wide. It was really him. Her best friend in the whole world, who she hadn't seen in a few years--he was right here--standing before her. For the first time in forever Taja beamed a huge smile at the stallion. "I can't believe its you." Taja told him while she looked him over. "You look--" What did he look like? He didn't particularly look different but he seemed different somehow. Maybe it was just because she hadn't seen him in a long time. Taja shook her head. "It's good to see you again." She finally came to the conclusion that it was best to leave it at that.

It really was her and the sight of her put a small smile on his lips. He couldn't believe it. He really couldn't believe it was Taja standing in front of him right now. After all this time he finally was able to meet up with her again. "It's good to see you again too." He said and felt like a dope for saying just that simple line that everyone says. He wanted to say something worthwhile and something that would at least make it seem like he wasn't so needy or depressed. "I haven't seen you in so long..How have you been?" He asked her and if she asked him the same he wouldn't know what to say. He was thinner because he hadn't been eating and he just sounded a lot more depressed due to the heartbreak he had been enduring for a long time now. He just didn't want to scare her away with how he was feeling and honestly was a little nervous that was going to happen. He wasn't the same stallion that she knew before. In fact, he had changed a lot over the time they had been apart.
"So many things have changed since we last spoke. So many things in my life have changed and I'm sure yours has had changes as well.." He said to her feeling like he was being too depressed for her so he stopped talking. "I'm sorry...I have been traveling for days and I haven't seen anyone else other then you." He said to her remembering those years where he would travel for weeks sometimes and meet so many other Soq along the way. Now he was lucky if he met one within a month, but then again he hasn't really been looking for any kind of interactions either. "Are you well?" He was so happy to see her and was so happy to have finally found her again. Those old feelings that he once had were creeping back up again. His heart was starting to beat and he could feel his nerves building up. It was something he hadn't felt in a very long time.

The small smile that came to her dear friends lips made her happy. It was a sight she hadn't seen in a long time and it was comforting to see it once more. His question caught her off guard for a moment. How had she been? The honest answer was probably very far from what he wanted to hear and Taja wasn't sure if she wanted to bring down their first meeting in a long time with the truth. For now she would settle with an answer that would neither yield the truth nor keep her from doing so later. "I've had an unusual time." She said, trying to pick her words carefully. Besides, even if she did tell him the full truth of how she had been then it would take a long time. When he talked about life changes Taja's smile went away and she nodded. "Yes, there were a lot of changes in my life since we last spoke." She said a bit sullenly. "What about you? Its been so long since we've seen each other. . . How have you been?"
"It's alright Heha. I haven't talked to anyone in some time either." She admitted. There was no harm in being honest with him about that fact. Taja looked him over once more and could tell there was some signs of tiredness in the way he stood. Whether it was from walking or something else, she couldn't say. "I was actually on my way to find a cave or some other form of shelter. Would you like come with me? We can catch up on the way." The mare offered. There was this sense of ease that Heha had always seemed to bring to her life. It wasn't quite the same as before, however, it was as if that sense of ease had evolved just as they had. It wasn't the same but it was still just as good. Taja had missed Heha and she was determined to spend time with him, find out how he had been and just enjoy seeing her friend again.

This was something he had been waiting for for a png time now. On numerous occasions he wanted to speak to her again, but didn't know where she would be or even how to find her. "I am happy that you haven't changed too much." He didn't know what he was saying because he didn't know if she did change. He was basing everything on appearance right now and for all he knew she could be a cold-hearted mare. The thought of that hurt his heart. She was always so nice to him and she never seemed like she was going to hurt anyone. But sometimes things change and make different emotions settle in. He could definitely agree to that one. "I have been well..traveling mostly and not stopping. I guess I haven't had too much time with others either. I don't really like to stay in one area anymore. It only makes me feel restless." He told her as he stayed by her side the entire time they walked. He felt like he should mention that Zeda and him were no more. It had been on his mind for a long time now and it would only make him feel more at ease getting that off his chest. But when she mentioned finding shelter his thoughts began to get cloudy and he only focused on that. "Yes let's find a shelter. It's a little too cold to be wandering around." He said softly to her feeling his gaze fall on her very often.
She was still the mare he remembered so long ago and the only mare that made him comfortable. Zeda was brash and loving, yes, but Taja was gentle. She was someone that he felt would always be there for him. He shook his head and sighed. Such thoughts were ludicrous and crazy. She would never think of him in that kind of way. She probably had her own family and loved someone else. The more he thought about it the more depressed he began to get. His head lowered a little bit and he could feel all his insecurities getting the upper hand on him. "By the way...me and Zeda broke it off." He said to her in an almost silent tone. He didn't really know how else to put it, but he felt like she had a right to know since after all they were good friends in the past.

When Heha told her that he was happy to see she hadn't changed she had to nod in response. Though she had in some ways, he wasn't wrong. He seemed to be unchanged by the passing time as well but admittedly a bit sullen looking compared to how she had remembered him. Always smiling--happy go lucky--the memories swirling in her mind brought a smile and a warm feeling in her chest. Taja hoped that he was really okay. As he walked steadily next to her she felt all the tension in her body loosen and she was able to just enjoy walking and talking with him again. "Oh?" Taja said in response as Heha began to tell her about his non-stop traveling. It was something she herself had--was currently doing. Never staying in a place too long. "That's. . . Funny." Taja looked over at Heha and a half-smile slipped out. "We seem to do a lot of the same things. I've been traveling around, nearly non-stop, for over a year now. . . Two?" Had that much time passed since she had emerged from the forest? It seemed like it was only yesterday. The chocking, empty feeling in her chest had subsided though she always felt its presence. "I'm sure if we keep walking east we'll hit the mountain side where a cave or two will be. It shouldn't be too much farther."
Whatever Taja had been expecting Heha-Nimsup to say--it wasn't the fact he and his mate had broken up. For a moment she stopped in her tracks as his words sunk in. In seconds she was taken back to a time before she had went into the forest where she had thought she would live out her days in a deep depression because life without her mate seemed pointless. Even now there were times where breathing seemed like too much. However, she had done it. Instantly she felt the pain of her memories flooding back in but she could only frown as she looked at Heha. It was a pain she didn't want anyone to go through--let alone Heha. He was too good. Too kind. "I am so sorry Heha." She said, taking a step towards him and allowing herself to nuzzle his neck as a show of support. "Would you like to talk about it?" It was a hard question to ask of him seeing as how she really didn't want to see him hurt further but there was a part of her that desperately needed to know what he had been through since they last spoke. He and Zeda had been together for a long time and she was certain that they had at least had children, though she had no proof. She and Gregory had been together for a few years but they had never had any. So maybe it was the same for him?
Taja sighed softly as she willed herself to be strong. Would it put him at ease to know that he was not alone in his heartbreak? She was certain that Heha wouldn't feel any better knowing that but at his confession she felt it was only fair to share with him one of her own. "When you have to make that decision--to end a relationship with someone you love very much. . . It was devastating for me, so I can only imagine what it was like for you." She told him. It took more strength for her to ask her next question, although, not for the same reason. "Did you two have any children?"

“Yes we do and there is nothing wrong with that.” He said to her and was more then happy to see her doing well. He couldn’t believe it had been that long since the two of them had spoken to one another. It was a little scary considering that was his first ever crush. Maybe avoiding her was the best option back then. He didn’t really know. “I’m happy to hear that. Then maybe we can have a nice cozy place to chat some more. I am sure you have a million things to tell me.” He said and after all their time apart, he knew it was possible. He on the other hand had nothing to really talk about. His life had been a boring mess and the heart-break consumed his life for a good year.
Feeling the soft nuzzle, the stallion looked over to her and was a little caught off guard by it. He hadn’t had much physical contact in such a long time and this feeling was something he was going to have to get use to all over again. He lived like a hermit since the break up and didn’t really talk to anyone. “It’s quite all right. I’m over it for the most part. As for talking about it…I’m not sure. I have been keeping it in for so long it would be strange to just randomly begin talking about it…though there isn’t much to really discuss.” He said walking and looking down at the ground a little bit. There wasn’t much. They were never there for each other and they suffered a disconnect, so he moved on with his life even though it hurt him deeply. “I was never there for her and she was never there for me. So it really put a rift between us..I eventually made the decision to move on…I haven’t seen her in so long though so I don’t know what she is doing with her life.” He said wondering if his other son was doing well. He was worried about him.
Devastating to her? The stallion looked up at her and immediately felt sorry. She was too good a mare to have suffered like that. To have suffered so much heart-break. “It’s tough..and I’m sorry you had to suffer the same fate. Maybe it was meant to happen from the very beginning.” He told her lightly as he spotted the cave in front of them. It was so close, yet so far away. “Yes we did have children. One girl and two boys. I don’t see my two sons anymore, which saddens me, but it’s expected. My daughter is suffering from heart break herself. She broke it off with the mare she was seeing for the longest time. She even had children for this mare, but I can only hope she finds love again.” He nodded as he stepped into the cark cave feeling a small amount of warmth. “Thank you for spending time with me.” He said keeping his eyes on her. ~Kiana_Nala~ Sorry for the wait. ;____; Reviving muses is never fun.
