Appearance: Aija is short with a slight build. Though small she is stronger than she appears due to being very athletic and active. Her hair is a bright pink and curly, nearly always split into two braids and pinned up too keep it out of the way. Her hair is very long, reaching the floor when let loose and brushed straight. She has light blue eyes and lightly tanned skin, with freckles on her face from repeated sunburns. Aija keeps up a very confident disposition and is rarely seen without a cheerful smile.
Relationships:
Laima Dzintara: Aija and her mother were close and had a good relationship. Aija always spoke to her mother and told her most everything. Her mother taught her a lot, always encouraging her to learn new things and do what she enjoyed. At the same time, she was strict with Aija and never let her off the hook when she misbehaved.
Nikolai Vasilyev: Aija and her father weren't as close as her and her mother due to his strictness. He was militant and very strict, Aija's mother being the one to soften him up when he was too harsh. He had high expectations for his children that were always hard to reach, he was hard to please. As Aija got older their personalities clashed more and more, her wanting to go explore and find her own pokemon, him wanting her to stay in school and in gymnastics.
Kaspars Dzintars: Aija's brother was much quieter and demure than her. They are similar in stature and appearance but are fraternal twins. Aija is close to her brother but finds his passive personality annoying at points, wanting him to take more initiative. Because of their differences, Aija and him don't spend much time together but are always there for each other if need be.
History: Aija was born just after her twin brother. She was born in Latvia with strict parents; her mother works as a maid; her father had once owned a studio and taught gymnastics but it fell into debt and had to be sold. He now works as a high school gym teacher but had Aija enrolled in gymnastics classes from a young age. Though low income and strict, her parents were always very involved with her and her brother, travelling around as frequently as they could within their small country. Aija and Kaspars weren't allowed to have pokemon of their own until they were 13, but their mom kept a mellow Arcanine named Gertrude, and their father had a duo of Dewotts called Ezers and Upe.
Aija began working at a Pokemon daycare when she was 14, saving up the money to leave Latvia. Her mother knew Aija wanted to leave but didn't discuss it with her father, knowing he would be against it completely. A year later at age 15, Aija told both her parents she planned to leave but it resulted in a fight her father. They compromised that she could go once she graduated high school. Aija worked to graduate early at 17.
Aija had always been small for her age, and on top of being part Russian in Latvia, she faced a lot of bullying. Being part Russian and part Latvian made it difficult for her to make friends, not fitting into groups of Russian kids or Latvian kids; instead of backing down, Aija got in fights frequently. She'd rather give a kid a black eye and get suspended than let them make fun of her.
Her mother's Arcanine Gertrude was like a large, lazy pet and always let Aija and Kaspars climb on her, never snapped at them or hurt them. Aija knew the Arcanine her entire life and came to love them dearly. Whenever she'd see someone else's Arcanine she would want to play with it; when she was 10 this ended in a bad accident, her mother getting hurt pulling Aija away from a violent Arcanine she'd spotted when on a hike. Aija ended up with a cut along her back, while her mother got a broken arm from the wild Arcanine's bite. Since then Aija was more cautious about Pokemon, but felt most guilty because she got her mother hurt.
Likes:
• Dance and singing; Culture and tradition was always very important to Aija's mother and that was passed down to Aija. She participated in Latvian festivals and dances whenever possible.
• Flying; Aija has never been on a plane but she has taken a few rides on her cousin's Charizard. She finds being in the sky exhilarating.
• Being the center of attention; Loud, silly, and eccentric, Aija likes to make herself known.
• Leadership; Aija likes being in charge as well as being the center of attention.
Dislikes:
• Gymnastics; She doesn't mind the skills she learned in gymnastics so much as she hates that she took ten years of gymnastics because her father wanted her to, not because she chose to.
• Tall people; Who gave them the right to be a full foot taller than her? So not fair.
• People making fun of her height; the quickest way to Aija's list of enemies is to make fun of her size.
• Indecisiveness; Even when she herself is unsure of something she forces herself to make a decision. Indecisiveness annoys her to no end.
Skills:
• Good Aim; starting with using a slingshot to get back at neighborhood kids that picked on her or her brother, Aija developed into a great shot. Her good aim expands to knife throwing and using a rifle. Her father took her and her brother shooting often, while her interest in throwing knives came from watching gritty movies. Since toting a rifle around or tossing knives isn't particularly sensible, she tends to stick to a slingshot or simply chucking whatever she can get her hands on if she needs to.
• Snap decisions; Pressure schmessure, Aija hardly breaks a sweat when the going gets tough. You might say she works better under pressure. Aija can switch gears easily, if something goes wrong with a plan she's figuring out what to do about it in an instance. She goes through with her decisions immediately and does not hesitate(regardless of if those decisions are always good).
• Stealthy; Lithe and agile, Aija finds sneaking around easy. Combined with relatively good acting skills, Aija can get herself somewhere she isn't supposed to be, and she can worm out of a bad situation. Not to mention playing pranks on people is a breeze when you avoid getting caught!
• Good with Pokemon; Working in a pokemon daycare taught Aija how to handle and treat pokemon. Though some pokemon are particularly stubborn or aggressive, she manages to get along with most and likes spending time training them and rarely feels nervous or scared of them.
Weaknesses and Fears:
• Overzealous; Once she's decided to do something nothing with deter Aija. She'll work hard and long on whatever she puts her mind to. Taking breaks or resting aren't in her schedule. She often bites off more than she can chew and can burn herself out or get reckless.
• Pigs; After an accident resulting in a twisted ankle and a broken arm involving a rather aggressive Tepid, Aija's had a fear of Tepigs, pigs, and anything that resembles them. You won't catch her saying she's afraid of them, she considers it a "passionate hatred of dirty swine".
• Stubborn; Aija is always right. Always. Okay, maybe not always, but she likes to think she is. Even if she's realized she was wrong, she'll insist she was right, she hates admitting she was wrong. Her ego is a bit inflated.
• Aggressive; Years of being picked on for her height has taught Aija to fight back. She's quick to insult, argue, and fight rather than problem solve.
Quirks/Other:
• Aija's father was always against girly things, considering them frivolous and unnecessary. Aija found a great joy in wearing pink lip gloss wherever she goes, bright enough to match her hair, to spite him. She loves her lip gloss.
• With hair longer than she is tall, Aija finds it taxing to wash it every single day. Especially when she doesn't pin her hair up, Aija finds anything from twigs to dead bugs to live bugs in her hair. She gets a little stinky sometimes. Smells like teen body odour spirit?
• With a Russian father and a Latvian mother, Aija is fluent in both Russian and Latvian. English is her third language but she is fairly proficient in it. Her accent is noticeable but understandable.
• Aija has a morbid, flat sense of humour. Why is dead dog happy? Because is no longer in sad, sad world. Hahah!
Personality:
Confident, excitable, and optimistic, Aija is a (hair)ball of energy. She is independent and doesn't like to rely on others; she likes to take things head on, full force. Teasing and taunting others is one of her favourite hobbies, though she's usually friendly about it. She holds grudges and though she might come to forgive someone for whatever grievance they committed against her, she won't forget. Aija's main goal is finding a way to gain power-- power over what? Well, she hasn't planned that out yet. She's not great at planning ahead. Aija wants to do something that will get her power and money, whatever that might be.
