Bright Egg
The Bright Egg is on the smaller side, but not nearly as small as some of its siblings. Tucked away behind the larger Pale egg, it is barely visible from the front. Despite its shy placement, the egg is enjoyable to the touch - intermixed slick and lightly textured areas make it rather fun and exciting to investigate.

Blazing Egg
A smallish, but vibrant egg, the Blazing Egg is nestled snugly against its twin, the Frost Egg. Ripples of flame-like colors wash over the firm shell, with one palm-sized blotch of darker color at the 'heart' of the fire. It is lightly ridged all over.

Forest Egg
A companion egg to the Golden Egg, the Forest Egg is sleepily flopped over sideways near its larger sibling. It is middling-small, half buried in sand, making the tree-like markings on the shell look as if they are growing from the ground directly. Personality goes here!

Frosted Egg
The Frosted Egg sits tightly against its companion Blazing Egg, as if trying to warm up from the hotter egg's presence. It is amazingly slick to the touch, and rather pretty. Medium in size, the tip is tilted ever so slightly towards the Wicked egg.

Golden Egg
The prize of the clutch, the Golden Egg sits near the rear-center of the sands, gently reclining against the Forest Egg, and guarded somewhat by the diminutive Scaled Egg. A classic golden beauty, it is somewhat reminiscent of a sunset.

Ocean Egg
The Ocean Egg is frankly tiny, but it still sits proudly near the front of the clutch. The Rusted Egg is at its back, though of the two only the Ocean Egg is still sitting upright. It is subtly bumped along the shell, giving it a soothing, rippling texture. Upon touching the Ocean Egg, prospective candidates will note a brief presence before it is tucked away. There is less of a sense of shyness about this egg's contents than one of caution however. Males will inevitably be carefully reached out to, as if they are being assessed, however females may not receive more than the initial blip of contact, especially if they try to 'search out' the lurking consciousness inside. All in all the dragonet inside seems wary, though not afraid.

Pale Egg
One of the largest eggs, the Pale Egg sits somewhat apart from the Golden Egg and her court, but still leans decidedly towards it. It nearly hides the Bright Egg with its washed out white-pink bulk, and seems to have been nestled there as if on purpose. It has tiny grooves running around its shell.

Rusted Egg
A smaller egg, the Rusted Egg lays sideways, half buried, and seemingly forgotten but for the Ocean Egg beside it. For the most part it seems a plain butterscotch color but for a large blotch of sprawling reddish. Most of the blemish is hidden in the sand - what is visible has a rough, gritty texture. This egg is full of questions. No, not about you. About itself. Candidates may pick up on the overwhelming sense of self-doubt this egg carries. You think it’s horrible don’t you? That’s ok, you’re probably right about it. Everyone else says so too. No amount of saying otherwise will convince this egg.

Scaled Egg
A medium small egg, the Scaled Egg sits between the Golden Egg and all comers, a stalwart little guardian. The surface of the brownish shell is very lumpy, reminiscent of true scales not seen on Pernese dragons.

Silver Egg
The smallest egg of the batch, the Silver Egg sits alone at the forefront of the clutch. It is perfectly formed, and a beautiful pale near-metallic color. The texture of the shell is very finely gritty, and soothing somewhat. It is tipped rather precariously, and looks about to flop onto its side at the lightest touch. Candidates touching this tiny egg will find themselves critically evaluated. It sees all, it knows all. This cold calculating is brief then the egg goes distant. There is certainly some strict criteria at work here. Do you have what it takes to boss this one around? It doesn't think so. Return visitors may get a sense of cold loftiness or a mental smack. It already looked at you.

Shooting Star Egg
A medium-large egg, the brilliant beauty of the Shooting Star Egg is not to be ignored! Off to one side of the Golden Egg's court, it is radiant in hues of pale blue and almost glowing white. The shell is so slick it even seems lacquered, and it is on the warm side to the touch.

Wicked Egg
A stunning but somewhat out of place looking egg, the Wicked Egg sits near to the Golden Egg, but is not quite part of its sibling's circle. Blurry dark twists criss-cross the purply shell, and a somewhat matte texture make it seem somewhat softer than it is. It is one of the larger eggs of the clutch, and certainly eye-catching.

Kaimi
Kaimi arrived for the touching, surprisingly among the first of the candidates to gather. She was not generally on time for things, but she hadn't been caught in the middle of anything when the call for the touching came and she was a little jittery with nerves. At 20 turns, she was old for a candidate and she was aware that she would have one, maybe two chances to stand on the sands. Becoming a dragonrider had never been her dream - she had always been too flighty to commit to something like that - but her year at Ista had developed a fascination and love of the creatures. Slowly, the desire to Impress had blossomed within her. And now, here she was, facing a clutch of twelve beautiful eggs.

She wasn't entirely certain where to start as she stepped onto the warm sand. All the eggs certainly had merit, and she knew she was supposed to touch as many as possible. But which should she touch first? Was she supposed to go straight to the gold egg, as it's inhabitant would be a future leader of the Weyr? Or did such things matter when the dragonets were still inside their shells? There were certainly several eggs whose bright colors drew her attention the way a piece of silver would draw a bird.

She did, however, remember belatedly to bow to Hyweth who crouched on the sands watchfully. The young harper's movement was graceful, giving away none of her sense of nervousness.

In the end, Kaimi decided to start with the egg which was closest to her: the Silver Egg. She rested her fingers lightly on the textured shell, waiting to see if anything would happen.

Ritsa

Ritsa could feel herself herded with along with the rest of the candidates. Dressed in her usual grey tunic that labeled her a candidate she was curious to see the eggs up close. She hadn't been in the Weyr for long but what she did have some learning in how to enter the sands. Her eyes searched for the Hywenth. Not that the gold was hard to find, but because she wanted to be sure to approach her appropriately. Taking in a shuddering and nervously deep breath, Ritsa approached Hywenth and her rider. Bowing to the golden rider Ritsa's eyes turned to the golden queen humbly.

"Thank you Hywenth, you have produced such a splendor of eggs and I feel honored that you are allowing us to approach them."

From here she would have to wait before being allowed to approach any of the eggs. It was up to the queen who was allowed to approach and who wasn't. Once freed she felt lost among the eggs, unsure of which one to approach first. The first egg for her to approach was the Silver Egg.

Jemi sauntered onto the sands, the tall and stocky built female candidate easily looking over most of the crowd. She was composed, 19 was old for a candidate, but she was nervous about never finding a bond mate. It had never came up before and she believed in meeting everything head on.

Still the eggs were a sight to see. They were bright and gorgeous and ooh, would you take a look at that. Goldie on the sands. She grinned, bowing politely to Hyweth and ignored the cluster of smaller eggs and headed straight towards the Golden egg.

She looked over it, as if attempting to see what made it so important then sheer shine and size before reaching out and set her palm against the shell.

Wen followed his partner at a slower pace, partly because he was obscured in the crowd of candidates. He was short, slender, and averaging the height of many of the female candidates if not shorter and it took awhile to get out of the crowd and to move freely. He bowed to Hywenth, a touch military, a touch stiff and drifted away from the silver egg. So much attention.

Instead he headed towards the Blazing egg and laid a hand right on the shell.

Paige

Ohhh this was exciting! The Touching! She was going to get to TOUCH A DRAGON EGG. Not that she hadn't before, but seriously, if pressed Paige would probably say she loves this part more than the Hatchings themselves.

Ok. She WOULD say she loves this part more. Nasty hatchlings are unable to claw you, and you get a taste of what it might be like to Impress one of the shelled dragons.

Paige, harper born and bred, was a musician first, but like most people she had a favorite color and once the reins had been loosed on the candidates, Paige bounced up to Hyweth, swept her a deep bow and blew her a kiss before turning towards the clutch and her 'first pick'. The Wicked Egg was her first stop. The outward appearance had a bit of an ominous feel, but it was just the outer shell, and she loved the color purple. Paige

Zotves

Zotves entered the sands as he had been instructed. It was hard to ignore the burning heat in the soles of his feet but he did his best to ignore them. Turning to greet the queen and her rider for the first time, he was exited to see the eggs as well. "You're eggs do not compare to your beauty." Zotves spoke in a flattering tone, knowing full well the best way to a queen was through flattery and bolstering her ego.

On the sands after having greeted the queen as required, he moved towards the center of the sands passing over the silver egg in light of the Wicked egg. He had no interest in any of the other candidates on the sands and would make it well known. If they wanted to talk to him it would be on his terms not theirs.

Dianno

Dianno was uncomfortable to say the least. As a resident of the weyr, even a new one, he was a candidate by default. He wasn't entirely sure he WANTED to be a rider, but this choice at least could be his and not his mothers. Riding did have it's appeals. What was more free than riding a dragon after all? Who would stop him if he and his dragon decided to just disappear and bugger off on their own? He'd grown up in a trader caravan. Dianno was confident he could survive alone, even with Thread falling. All you had to do was find a cave to hide in, or between somewhere else till it was gone. Not exactly hard if you had a dragon.

In his mind, he played out plenty of scenarios of himself and a dragon doing whatever the shaff they wanted. It made the decision to join candidacy much more palatable.

Even if he really did hate the enclosed space of the Hatching Grounds. Wider than the rest of the internal weyr structures by far, but still, the walls were so close! Dianno forced his stomach back into place as it tried to crawl up his throat. He was fine. He wasn't a baby. He could handle this. Dianno bowed to the gold before awkwardly kneeling to touch one of the eggs off to the right. The grooves of the Pale Egg felt rough on his fingers as he laid a hand on it's warm shell.

Cai

Cai of course was not a candidate, but as a new member of the Weyr's healing team, he felt obligated to familiarize himself with the Hatching Sands. He would be on duty during the Hatching itself and with the eggs already laid, this would be his only time before then to get a proper look inside.

He did not approach the gold or her eggs. That was the rights of the Candidates alone, but he stood within the entry way and observed closely. Cai wondered morbidly if he would see any of these dimglowed youths permanently maimed in the coming sevendays, or worse for that matter. Can't cure death and all.

Naressa was so excited, she had woken up early and couldn't barely contain her excitement. She was 18 and nearly out of the average age bracket and she gave a confident greeting and a graceful bow to the mighty queen. "You have a beautiful clutch." And she carefully stepped towards the Gold Egg, making sure to not disturb the other eggs on the sands, where one of the other candidates had already placed a hand on the glistening shell. She gave her a smile and reached out her hand placing it on the hard shell feeling the texture of it beneath her palm. "Good luck." She sincerely meant it and she looked down at the beautiful egg and prayed that the hatching was a success.

Shaddaling

The golden egg reacted to Meli gently, and then, seemed to encourage the girl. The mental touch was warm, and radiated love. The dragonet within the egg certainly approved of this candidate! Well done, Jemi! Would she visit all the eggs? Oh! Be careful with the Wicked Egg!

Dizxy_Kat

GO AWAY! There was a mental feeling of disgust radiating from the Wicked Egg. It was to be admired, not touched!

Silver_Tigress

Seriously? Another one?! How many would the Wicked Egg have to deal with? GO AWAY! It doesn't want bothered! Couldn't they let it sulk in peace?

AstoriaFallen
Hello there! The gold egg greeted Naressa happily. There was a gentle feeling to the mental touch. A sense of justice: and love for all of those under her rule.

Jemi gave a soft snort at the wish for luck. They would either like her or they wouldn't she didn't get where this luck business would come into it. She paused at the first touch of something different in her mind. She blinked, unsure if she approved of having something riffling through her brain and decided the hatching, unborn, egg, wasn't doing anything damaging.

She gave the golden egg one last stroke in thanks before moving right towards the Wicked Egg and grinned. Well, were you going to be a bit more of a challenge? She laid a firm hand on the purple shell.

She felt the mental touch of the response from the hatchling inside and she could help but feel the happiness and spread through her and make her feel much better and she peeked around at the Forest Egg that was hiding behind the gold. She mentally thanked the gold for it's friendliness and she walked around to much smaller egg and she couldn't help but smile at it's position and how the markings made it look like it was growing from the ground. She tentatively reached out her hand and ran It across the rough surface of the egg.

How she wished her parents could see her now, on the hatching grounds, touching dragon eggs. There wasn't a place in the world she'd rather be right now. She would definitely write a song about this later, even if she didn't impress. This was the most exhilarating experience she could ever remember having happened to her.

Paige

Paige's eyes rounded in surprise and after a quick Sorry! she lifted her hand from the purple egg's shell. Oops. Well. Sometimes that happened she supposed. It certainly wasn't the worst reception she'd had in her turns standing. Still, it was a little disappointing that the first egg she was greeted by was stuck up. Paige just mentally shrugged it off and turned around. Favorite color out the way and it was time to pay her respects to the gold egg. One good thing about the larger eggs is she didn't have to kneel in the hot sand to comfortably touch their shells.

She didn't really stroke the eggs anymore, she felt she had a better contact if she just put her palms on the eggs and held still. The color within the egg intrigued her of course what girl faced with a gold egg didn't give it even a moment's though. Nothing was impossible after all, but she'd never thought of herself as the gold type. Then again, she'd ride bronze if it meant she was a dragonrider! You couldn't blame a girl with an abundance of energy to want a dragon less associated with responsibility though.

Dizzy_Kat

The pale egg regarded Dianno with a quiet humility. There were many eggs to be seen! And while the pale egg was honored the boy had chosen to come to him first, it seemed to encourage the boy onward.

Paige received a warm welcome from the gold egg, quite a contrast from the Wicked Egg. This egg seemed to reassure the girl. The Wicked Egg meant no harm, really! Paige was better off now.

Shaddaling

SERIOUSLY?! Another one? Ugh! Would she ever have a peaceful moment to herself? This egg didn't want company!

Dianno

Well that was intense. It was not the mind altering attack he'd expected, it was still an awe inspiring feeling to have another creatures mind touch yours. Dianno, who'd never even had a firelizard pay him any mind, found himself stunned for a few moments, his hands still resting amid the grooves of the large egg before him.

Eventually he got the message and gratefully stood. Hopefully no one else saw him caught off guard so thoroughly, he glanced furtively around and took a posture of passive boredom as he grazed his hand across the Bright Egg behind the pale one.
