 Lazarus was sitting by the river of blood. It was one of his favorite hobbies, but he wasn't one to just randomly go out and murder someone. Most of the time he spent by himself. Every now and then Mortimer would come by for a drink and he they would have small but simple conversation.

 Cora kicked a stone as she walked along. She was heading for the River of Blood today. She wanted to try some magic she had secretly been working on, but she was running low on her own blood. She could get her magic to work by using the river, but it was never like it was when she used her own blood. Since this was a test though, it didn't matter if it was full strength.
She smiled when she spotted someone sitting next to the river. Maybe she'd get to make a new friend. Outside of her family she really didn't have many. They didn't like that she didn't talk. And since talking was a prime form of communication, no one really made the time to get to know her.
She joyfully trotted over to the mummy and plopped down next to him, smiling and waving enthusiastically as she did so.

Lazarus slowly turned his head towards the female demon who had just sat down. She seemed rather cheerful, but she didn't seem to talk or say anything. "Hello there. What brings you here today?" He had a knack for small chat, but for the most part he wasn't too much of a talker himself.
Perhaps he could make a new friend though in the least. Normally he would be so quiet to the point that others would avoid him since he had some strange habits. "Do you like to see souls pass to the afterlife too?"

The blue demoness nodded. She then pointed her hoof at him, then to the river, and back to him again. She suddenly got excited and started beaming again. Her tail snaked its way up through the air and in front of her. She used the tip to write in the dirt. You?

Lazarus could tell something was definitely different about her. Not once had she spoken yet. "Well I'm just here relaxing and taking in the atmosphere. Although since it's been a while since I've had good company, perhaps I could offer you some snacks or food?" He paused for a moment hesitating, but decided to ask her. "You can't speak, can you?"

Cora's head hung low and her eyes filled with sadness as she shook her head no. Her tail took off in the dirt again, writing what she wished she could have said.
I have never spoken. Words hold power.
Her smile reappeared as she worked on the next message.
But a snack sounds good. If it's not much trouble.

Lazarus noticed he had hit a sensitive topic in the way she looked sad. He gave her a nudge. "Words might hold power, but as long as you have someone who can understand you then it should not matter." He looked off to the side then back at her. "As long as you don't mind the company of rotting flesh." He then went behind a rock to grab out some treats before bringing them back. "I hope you don't mind. I'm not sure what most ponies eat, but this is stuff I tend to like."

You don't look like rotting flesh to me. You just look like a mummy.
She snagged some spun spider webs. These were always my favorites. My sisters like to eat them all and tease me with the packages whenever we get them.
Cora grinned mischieviously, But I always get them back. They don't like it when their gummy worms wiggle around on the way down.

A little bit of laughter could be seen from Lazarus. It wasn't like him to show to much of a smile, but this pony seemed to really amuse him. "Seems like you got them good. What is your family like anyways if you don't mind me asking?"

My mother and father are very much in love. They spend a lot of time with one another. My mom is a sorceress, and a pretty good one. My dad started off as a servant for her, but she really liked him, and now they're together. Dad is a guardian/sorcerer type. I don't think he's very powerful, but that's not all that important anyway. Cora smiled fondly as she told him about her family.
Then there's my sister Xenobia. She takes after my mother. Very powerful and cocky. She's never liked that I didn't talk. And my brother is named after my father. He's nice enough. He's going through this girl phase right now. My sisters Teruko and Tsukiko are the ones who are usually so ill tempered and mean to me. They can be nice. They just have more fun if they're not.
Cora shrugged, I don't let it bother me. But what about you? What's your family like?

Lazarus was stumped not sure what to say about his family, however he did find interest in hers. "Well truthfully I can't remember much of my family. I just woke up one day and found two mummies walking away from me. That's the only memory I have. I've lived alone most of my life." He paused for a moment not sure if he wanted to continue on or not, but still he did. "I grew up ok. I learned how to fend for myself. Normally I just put others in curses that could possibly hurt or just be a minor effect. All I need is to remember what they look like and something they have touched. It could be very simple such as a blade of grass they were standing on, a strand of hair, etc. What type of talent do you have?"
He was surprised since he was rambling on like this. Normally he was the dead quiet one others avoided. "Well about your siblings, maybe they should try to listen and understand you." He paused for a moment. "Too bad none of them are good at Telepathy or else that would be a good talent to have."

Cora frowned and put a gentle hoof on his shoulder in sympathy. Her tail started scribbling in the dirt again.
I'm a sorceress. My blood is very powerful. I can do just about anything.
To prove it, she bit her wrist and dropped some blood onto the ground. She waved her wrist and the dirt clumped together where her blood dropped and formed into a tiny dirt pony that pranced around and whinnied.
She beamed proudly at Lazarus, her eyes bright and full of life.

Lazarus watched her as she performed her talent. "Wow! That is impressive." He looked back up smiling at her. "So are you the only one in the family with this talent?"

She nodded, The only one who is as strong, and the only one who requires blood to do magic.
The demoness let out a silent sigh, No one knows this...and I want it to stay that way, but I can talk. I did once.
Cora's head turned away from the mummy. I almost killed myself. I did kill my kitten. I haven't spoken since then. I hope I've forgotten how.
It used up a lot of blood too. I was in bed for a month recovering from the anemia. So I can't talk...or won't talk. Words have power.

Lazarus was a bit confused as to why she hated talking so much. He was hesitating at first to ask since he wasn't sure if he would poke her for more info or if he should just comfort her. "I hate to bug you, but does you speaking really mean problems, like does your voice unlock your power?" He then looked down. "If you don't want to talk about it I understand."
He kind of smiled a bit. "You know though it's not like you could drain me of blood since I'm pretty much a reanimated corpse. I've been killed and raised from the dead over and over. Sometimes death can be a release, but normally once it's done, it's done. Unless you have a necromancer that can raise you from the dead."
