Solia had a memory that was selective in what it chose to prioritize. She took in facts and information like a sponge, yet names failed her. They took time, repetition. She often had to find nick names to substitute until she had the real thing memorized. Yet for those who spoke in French she was quicker to plant a name to a face. Even if just in passing, the simple act of speaking in her native language held a firmer grasp in her memory than a greater many things.

So to see Sasha in the halls of Deus again after such an absence had the teen perking up, running after the woman in her pink heeled boots with lace trimmed socks looking as out of place as ever among the more drab hunters and their dreary appearances.

"Miss Sasha! Il a été un moment! Qu'est-ce qui vous est arrivé? Vous disparu si soudainement."

The longer that Sasha was on the island, the better she found herself feeling. She tended to stick to herself, be it mutilating training dummies on the field, doing paperwork in the labs, or picking up rather mundane duties elsewhere. Before the mission to Scotland, she'd always been sure to make her presence known. The way she'd dressed, the way she'd carried herself - it had all spoken of a confident, dangerous woman.

This Sasha was much less vicious, much less cutthroat. It almost appeared as if she did not find comfort in her own skin. She dressed in plain clothes and walked with her head down, shoulders hunched, hair clasped tight in a braid that she wore looped around her neck to prevent it from getting in the way of things.

When Solia called out to her, Sasha visibly jumped. She'd been scurrying from her room to the labs, and hadn't expected anyone to approach her. Scrambling for composure, Sasha offered Solia a slight smile.

"Solia."

Solia.

The smile disappeared as Sasha fell silent, idly worrying the curls that formed the end of her long rope of hair.

"On m'a envoyé faire une course pour le docteur."

It wasn't the complete truth, wasn't really even close, but her heart was roaring in her ears as she stared at Solia.

Solia hardly registered Sasha's jump, but then she wasn't always the most astute when it came to certain reactions of her arrival. After enough people generally appeared shocked that you existed let alone had somehow evaded death so far, you got used it to.

"Yep! I'm glad you remember me! Even if we never really had time to talk..." Solia was a bit sad, because just being able to slip to French was so much nicer than having to carefully construct her words in English.

"Ah, j'espère que je n'ai pas interrompu rien. Mais le médecin?
J'espère que ça s'est bien passé alors!
They leads ah, they- hrm-
Ils sont très pointilleux je pense. But how have you been? You look um.. much different!"

Very different at that.

"Of course I remember you, it would be awful of me if I did not. There are so few on the island who speak French, il est parfois agréable de parler un langage de la beauté. It comes so easily to the lips. And your name is such a pretty one, though I don't recall your last."

Chit chat, small talk - it was exactly what Sasha had been trying to avoid. All the questions, so many of them that Sasha had no answers for. Why had Solia's name echoed in that strange dream of mirrors?

"The Doctor is the most brilliant man I know," Sasha continued, completely without warmth, "and my errand... well. It was ...complicated."

Solia laughed, full and bright and utterly ignorant to any woe or dread that might have permeated the halls of Deus. "Beaucoup l'appellent le langage de l'amour. But Beauty? Non, le langage de la beauté est celle d'un artiste et je ne suis pas une telle chose." She shook her head, curls bouncing in her hair.

"My last name isn't an easy one though. Delacroix. Its spelt a bit odd. My teacher in middle school insisted it was pronounced 'del-a-crow-ex'. Foolishness at it's finest really." She waved it off. She'd gotten used to her being secondary anyway.

"But yeah, the doctor seems pretty smart. I mean he has to be, given how old he is and the fact he's not..you know..." She just shrugged.

"And ohhh, secret life things, come on you can tell me!
Nous sommes amis en français, non?" Now Sasha was just teasing her, telling her about a mission errand thingy and leaving her hanging. Terrible.

The girl's laughter was contagious, and Sasha found herself laughing along with the curly-haired creature. She was smiling still when Solia mentioned her last name - Delacroix - when suddenly her expression froze. Her thoughts stuttered to a stop, and it felt as though the earth yawned beneath her feet.

Before she could stop herself, Sasha reached out to grasp Solia's wrist with cold, insistent fingers.

"Let's talk somewhere private, shall we?"

Had she said something wrong? Solia quickly wracked her brain on how she might have offended Sasha. It was too soon! They had just gotten off on a really good foot! She didn't want to have lost a potential friend so quickly, just like that!

Worry was plainly written on Solia's face as Sasha said they ought to talk in private. "Oh my gosh, I'm sorry. If it really is top secret it's okay! You don't have to tell me you know. I know life and death have issues, it's okay, really!"

Solia was more worried she'd possibly gotten Sasha in trouble more than anything.

"Suivez-moi, s'il vous plaît." Sasha's voice carried a sort of urgency that demanded compliance. "It's nothing, it's nothing - just the name, Delacroix, the name, Solia."

Sasha sounded a little unwell, a little disjointed, but looked as though everything she said should make sense.

"Juste un peu d'intimité. La porte est ouverte. Vous comprenez, je suis sûr!"

She didn't release her grip on Solia's hand; instead, she tugged the girl along, back towards the dorms.

Whatever it was Sasha clearly wanted to talk, and the halls were clearly not the place to talk in. But someplace else was. So... off to someplace else. "Si vous le dites!" Being led was nothing new.

She just didn't know where her destination ultimately was.

Sasha didn't stop until she was safe in her dark, dirty dorm room. The curtains were closed, the bed unmade. Her clothes were strewn about the floor. The instant that the door closed behind her, Sasha turned to cup Solia's cheeks with her cool hands.

And then the babbling began, a choppy mixture of French and English. Sasha spoke with animation, eyes gleaming almost feverishly.

"Nous partageons le même sang! Did you know? Do you know of the door? Les serrures! La porte! Viviane! Elle a pris mon corps. You are Delacroix, it makes sense that you are here! J'ai été adopté. J'ai rencontré ma grand-mère! Elle est morte maintenant, nous ne serons pas en parler. Je suis allé à l'Ecosse, avez-vous? Do you know of Cairt? I found a pendant, une croix d'argent, I lost it when I was caged."

She finally stopped to breathe, looking genuinely excited.

"Uh, uh, uh." Solia was used to fast paced but this was confusing, mostly because she had no idea who Sasha was talking about but- "Nous partageons le même sang? Vous devez respirer Sasha. Respirations profondes." She soothed, or at least tried to.

"Je ne sais pas de portes ou de clés. Ahh.. Votre famille, c'est .. bonnes nouvelles? Et pas. Je n'ai jamais été à l'Ecosse. J'ai aussi ne sais pas de Cairt. Le même de ce pendentif qui vous parlez." Confusion was awash Solia's face. "J'espère que je ne suis pas vous décevoir, mais vous parlez de choses que je ne connais pas." Hands came up to cup Sasha's own.

"Mais êtes-vous d'accord? Vous ne semblez pas comme vous." Solia's french was a lot smoother and calmer, if anything worried and gentle. Solia was someone who cared about others, just for the simple fact they existed in her little world. One kindness given, she cherished it and would cherish the act even in such a strange tun of events.

Sasha paused, looking utterly and brokenly confused. She slipped her hands free from Solia's cheeks, wringing her fingers as she took a step back.

"But you are Delacroix. Je suis Delacroix. We share the same blood. Je sais que notre lignée."

Sasha waved a hand. "I am fine. If you don't know of what I speak, tell me of your family. Your mother's name? Your father's name? Do they live? Did they tell you nothing?"

Wait... There was a tiny lightbulb that went off in Solia's head. She was Delacroix? She knew their linage? Solia knew that bloodlines existed. If she was one them. Solia tensed, pulling away slightly and hunching into herself a bit.

"Oh I... I didn't know. I.. sorry." It was a weak word, and it sounded rehearsed. Automatic. "Je ne sais pas. Désolé. Je suis désolé." She was used to making apologies. This was nothing new.

"My mother.. she was... she took my father's name? He was a Delacroix, as were his father and so on and so- I did not know them very well. Know them at all really." Solia sat herself down on the floor, looking a tad sad and eyes downcast to the carpet.
"They ..they knew I think. Maybe. When I was little they took me to a lot of doctors and priests who said they could..cur-help me." There was no cure, and just calling those attempts at cures felt like cheating. "When it didn't work they just sent me away, to American schools. I never saw them until I was 16 before I came here.. Maybe... for two hours. I don't know." She sighed.

"They never really kept in contact with me..... I miss them though."

She opened her eyes head snapping up, "Ah, I am sorry, I got a bit lost in my own thoughts. What do you mean, telling me nothing?"

Sasha's mouth wrenched slightly when Solia spoke of being sent away. "Yes, the same happened to me. Though I was very young, and I do not remember them." Sasha reached out to take one of Solia's hands.

"My mother was Delacroix. I am not certain of my father's last name. Perhaps it was Belrose, perhaps it was something else. I was sent away - for what, I do not know - and raised by a man I thought to be my father."

It was a long, boring story - nothing compared to the news she'd recently been introduced to.

"I saw you in a dream - well, it wasn't you, but someone calling your name. While I was in Scotland. I met my grandmother there - the family estate. I wonder how your mother was related to mine - do you know? I think her name was Anne - my mother, I mean." She paused.

"It appears that we come from a long line of Life Hunters. Important ones, from what I can tell - from what I was told. Oh, Solia, there is so much for me to tell you."

Solia smiled, if a bit forced. "They meant well I think. But then.. I think it scared them. To know I could see things." The touch had her hesitate before Solia squeezed the hand back.

"Je pense que je leur fait peur..." She sighed, calming, relaxing. It was strange to talk about her family. Alien almost. "I don't know. Cousins? Sisters? I never knew my aunts or uncles or if I even had any.. same with my grandparents. No one ever really told me and when I would ask I was always told that my mother and father were too busy to talk to me."

Scotland was a place she also knew nothing of. "It would be strange though? I don't know anyone in Scotland. But if I am from this long line.." Her eyes shifted to her coat. "Am I in the wrong division then?" She looked to Sasha, wanting an answer she doubted she'd find. Wanting some kind of confirmation for herself, that maybe, just maybe, someone existed who might care, even if just a little bit.
"Was I a mistake?"
