Two detectives. One male and the other female. They are the best detectives London has ever had in all its years. Every time there was a big case for them, they would compete each other to see who would complete the case first. The have been long rivals for many years and have known each other far longer than their rivalry. What will happen with the next case they receive that could either continue their rivalry or end it?

Darkness Everdeen

It was a normal day in London. A few crimes committed, machines everywhere, along with new technology coming out everyday. The days were cloudy, and somewhat dirty, but it was fine. Detective James was summoned down to the Robert's mansion in downtown west London. The lord of the mansion had been murdered. Of course the police called the best of detectives for this crime, which meant there were only two options for this: James Nicholson and Silvia Lonergon. James and Silvia had a long history together... some of it not so happy and that's why they always competed for who got the case and who solved it first.

Upon reaching the crime scene, James noticed that his so "beloved" rival was already. He sighed and rolled his eyes. "Step aside Lonergon, this case is mine." he said stepping closer to the dead body that was now covered with a white cloth. Although Detective James Nicholson was a good person at heart, he could be a bit stubborn and arrogant at times. That is why he and Silvia bumped heads most of the time.

Detective Silvia Lonergon was called in for a murder case at the Robert's Mansion over west in London. She went to the mansion as requested and saw that it was the lord of the mansion who died and knew that she would soon meet someone she didn't want to see again. She was already looking over the body and questioning people that were standing around the body and was disappointed to hear a familiar voice. She covered her mouth with her fan and placed a fist on her hip.

"Hmph. Is that so? Well, I was here first, Nicholson, so please leave this case to me and go look for another one," she said a bit harshly. She had a big grudge against him since they had an argument where she believed she was right and he was wrong. She really was a kind person at heart, but boy can she hold a grudge against someone.

James chuckled and scoffed it off as he walked past her completely ignoring her. He too began taking notes of what he saw. "Sure, you got here first, but if you were good enough for this case then they wouldn't have called me." he said looking back at her with a grin and a teasing smile. "Excuse me." he said now walking past her again. Silvia and James were pretty big and famous around London. They were the best detectives and they used to work together in the past, but due to a stupid argument they had they separated. The two of them had even dated, but that's all in the past now. Now both of them despised one another and always tried to prove who was the best.

Anyways, a tall robust man approached both of them with a serious face. He seemed tired and like he didn't feel like dealing with either of them at the moment. "You two, I don't want you fighting like little kids. I need you two to solve this case. The b*****d who did this was too careful not to leave marks behind." the man sighed. "I don't care who solves it. I just need answers and fast." After all, the man was Silvia's and James's boss.

Silvia closed her fan and stomped her foot like an angry child, puffing her cheek. She already a an open wound with him and he was just seemed to be putting salt on that wound. She crossed her arms and turned away from him in anger. She listened to the tall, robust man that had approached them, the man who was their boss, and nodded to him. "Don't worry, sir. I'll solve this in no time. All by myself," she said, opening her fan and fanning herself a bit and put a lot of enfasis on her last sentence so that James could here her. She walked around the crime scene and started to take in everything, remember every last detail from cabinets to flowers to mirrors. She had quite a memory that it almost seemed like she had a photographic mind.

James ignored her last sentence and walked on his own looking more around the crime scene. He interrogated everyone who had been at the mansion at the time of the murder. No one seemed to have answers so it was really pointless talking to them. "Who could have done it...? Almost the perfect crime..." he thought. He was sure something had to give him a hint of who could have done it, but so far there was nothing. No fingerprints, no shoe prints, no nothing! Not even a weapon. I can't let Lonergon win this. he thought.

He took a better look at the victim again and smelled something. "I think I got something." he stated. The victim was a male and a widow however, there was a strong smell of perfume. As if of recently. It had to be a woman's perfume. "You got nothing on me, Lonergon. Heh." he stated. His confidence boosting up a little bit again.

Silvia heard him say that he had found something and felt angry. Then she realized that something was off with a some things that were near the corpse. She got closer and noticed that the table near him had a bit of dust, but some of it was missing as if something swiped by it. It was almost there was something there before being removed. "Hmph. You really need a better eye, Nicholson. You obviously missed a very simple clue that you haven't caught yet," she said, hiding her smirk with her fan. She looked at a batch of roses in a vase and noticed that they weren't as well arranged as the other batch of roses on the other side. She found it suspicious like someone was in a rush. She decided to examine the victim so that she could catch a clue that might help with a hunch she had. She walked over to the victim and removed the white cloth. "If you'll excuse me, I'll need to examine the body for more clues," she announced so that they wouldn't question her motives. She knelt down next to it and looked over the body.

Bloody hell! was all James could think when Silvia exclaimed she had found something else. He was really missing out on obvious things lately but he was not going to let anyone else know about this. Not even their boss knew about it. However, to make things seems not as bad for himself he decided to answer back to Silvia. "Well, I don't go for the obvious. That's just too easy, isn't it?" he teased. His face turned serious again as he tried to think about the perfume that he had smelled. It was a rather peculiar smell. Not common, so that meant it had to be expensive. A woman... was all he could think of right now. There were so many possibilities that could come out in that one statement, so further investigation was required.

James kept walking around but found nothing for now. "Well, I think there's not much to find here now. I'll be leaving boss. Lonergon." He said her last name with a more harsh tone of voice. James's next stop now was going to be the perfume shop. Of course hew as going to the most expensive one in the city, that's the only place he would probably find the same scent.

Silvia puffed her cheek again when he said he didn't need to see obvious clues. "Hmph," was all she said before looking back at the victim. She was barely able to smell some sweet perfume that only women would where, of course. She heard him say her last name harshly and ignored hi. "Good bye, Nicholson," she said a tad harshly before he could leave. She took a look at the victims body, taking in everything about what he was wearing other details people might have ignored. She saw nothing that would help except his clothes got a bit wrinkled from being on the floor. She got up and covered the body again with the white cloth they had put on him earlier. She fanned herself a bit in thought and tried to figure everything. She turned to the people who had been there before and also the workers and asked them if there had been a woman who had met with the lord of the mansion before they found him dead.

James left the crime scene, as he had stated before, and headed towards the perfume shop. As expected, the place was mostly filled with rich women. Nothing seemed suspicious about it, so the best thing to do now was to ask the shop owner about the scent. "Excuse me, ma'am, I need some answers, and maybe you can help me." said the detective as he walked away from the crowd so he could speak clearly with the woman. "Yes sir? How may I help you?" James smiled innocently. He was not going to let her in on what was happening in case the woman wanted to hide some information from him. "Oh, you see. I'm trying to find just the right fragrance for my wife and I so happened to smell one particular fragrance that I believe they sell here. Perhaps you could help me identify this perfume?" he asked the lady kindly.

The woman smiled gladly. "Of course! What a caring husband. Now, would you mind describing the scent?" James now had to put into thought how to describe the smell. He placed a finger on his chin as he tried to think of a description. "Well, I believe I smelled some vanilla along with roses." he stated. Hopefully that wasn't too vague. he thought.

The woman thought for a moment. "Well, we do have a couple of fragrances that fit your description. Follow me." she said now walking towards a shelf at the end of the store. It had around 5 different perfume bottles there. "Maybe you can recognize it by smell again." she told James as she began handing him the perfumes. After smelling them all, the man made a frown and sighed. "No good... Are those all?" he asked the woman. The woman seemed a little intrigued. "Well..." she said hesitantly, "We do have one more, but is very expensive. We sold our last one 3 days ago. Here's the sample." she said showing it to him. James smelled it. "This is it! Would you mind telling me who bought it?" The lady shook her head. "I'm sorry. That is private."

Silvia was told that they did not see a woman with him, but there was a man who had gone there a few hours before they found him dead. She asked them who this man could have been and they told her that it was a rich man who was there for business purposes only. They told her they didn't know the man's name and she thanked them kindly. "I'll be leaving now, boss," she told her boss and left the mansion. She kept pondering on about who the man was and why the victim was covered with expensive perfume. She then remembered that perfume was used to get rid of odor and the killer wanted to cover up the fact that he was dead and for how long he was dead.

'Hmm...If I am correct, that perfume is a very exclusive kind and only the rich are able to get this perfume,' she thought until she passed by a perfume shop. She stopped and retreated back and looked through the window to see that James was already onto the perfume subject and huffed in anger. 'Damn it! I have to hurry up if I want to win the case.'

"Well, thank you for your time. Have a good day." With that said, James exited the store. He didn't get all the information he had desired but at least he knew now how the bottle of the perfume looked like. That was better than nothing. "What's next... he pondered as he noticed a similar silhouette standing close to the store. "Barely catching on, Lonergon? Seems someone is staying behind." The man just loved to show off, especially to Silivia. Maybe it wouldn't be like this if they didn't had that long history together in the past. "Maybe you should get some oil check because you are getting rusty dear." he scoffed with a mocking smirk. He chuckled slightly and kept on walking. He had to figure out where to move to now.

Silvia saw him leave the store and turned away from him. She almost felt like hitting him with her fan when he scoffed at her about her being slow. She was even more angrier when he called her 'dear' like he used to when they were taking. 'That is it,' she thought and walked away to keep on figuring out what to do next. She walked to her house and took out her anger at things around the house that just summed up to a pillow. She sat down on her couch and opened her fan, covering her mouth in thought.
