Melanthios looked around, he wasn’t too sure why but this area seemed familiar. He himself might have come through here all those years ago, but this thought was of something newer, the way things looked now. It took the stallion a moment to connect the dots. That’s right, Ipswich is from this area. He thought to himself as he felt the sun against his solid form. He had to solidify himself out in public. Too many others seemed a bit disturbed walking through him.

His haunted hollow eyes watched the pathway that he walked. The stallion was able to feel the slight breeze push against his coarser hair on his chest, his tail propped up. He had to wonder if he’d see his friend. It would be a shame to miss the lovely mare so close to her home. After some of the things she had shared with him about her mother, he felt that he could truly be himself. And when he thought that, he meant being able to walk around as a ghost, rather than a see through solid form. It took up so much energy.

The snow crunched beneath his hooves as he walked forward, there hadn’t been much travel the last day or so in this area he assumed because of that. But for all he knew, there could be all flying horses in this area. He admired the scenery as he walked, making sure to duck and avoid the weighed branches. He couldn’t help but think of the mare he joined under some shelter during a coastal storm. He felt a bit foolish getting caught off guard like that with the weather. However, the mare that had first taken shelter there allowed him to join her and didn’t spook like most of the other horses he had met. He had greatly enjoyed his conversation with her that night.

And as fate would have it, the two bumped into each a few more times since then. All by chance, but Melanthios was grateful. Being able to meet such a horse, someone understanding and knowledgeable, that was one of the few blessings one could look forward too.

test There had been more snow flurries throughout the night Ipswich noted with a slight snort as she moved down the trail, perhaps it was only her imagination but it seemed to her that this winter had been more active then others she recalled, in terms of snow and bad weather anyways. Granted, in the grand scheme of things, she hadn't very many winter seasons to compare under her hooves yet..a question to ask her mother and father perhaps. Filing the question away for late Ipswich turned her mind to her current quest.

Thanks in part to the harsh weather lately her mother's stores had started to grow thin and although Spring was not to terribly far away no one wanted the stores to completely run out..and so she had been dispatched to check the neighboring coves for the dried, and likely buried judging by the condition of the trail, remains of summers herbs. Perhaps she could even find some fresh seaweed washed up along the coast to bring home - it would certainly be a welcome break from the dried up grass they had been eating since the season started.

Ipswich wasn't sure if it was the crunching sound of hooves ahead that caught her attention..or the sudden sheet of ice beneath her own hooves, as both happened at about the same time, startled she yelped slightly, attempting to find some traction on the treacherous footing but succeeded only in skidding off the trail and into a snow drift. Fantastic.

Sighing slightly and shaking her pelt to try and rid her coat of it's new cold blanket she suddenly recalled the approaching hooves she had heard and jerked her head around with a warning for whoever approached around the corner "Watch out! Ice ahead!"

Melanthios placed one hoof on the ice, but his weight remained on the other three stopping just in time. He looked straight ahead expecting to see someone but then his white eyes caught sight of that lovely pelt color. Taking in the blue hues and then purple hair with the blue ribbons ornaments he gave a small toothy smile.

"Ipswish, what are you doing in the snow bank?" His gave a twitch as he noted the ice and moved around behind where the mare had planted herself. He knew that she had slipped, he heard the yelp and thud, but he couldn't help but tease her just a little.

He pushed at the snow bank a bit with his hooves to try and make it a little easier for her to get up. After the joking was put aside he looked her over and asked if she was okay, slipping on ice could be very dangerous. Horses have broken bones before slipping on ice. If she broke a bone he would do whatever he could to make sure his friend was taken care of properly. But that would be the worst case scenario.

"I was hot...I wanted to cool off." Ipswich retorted with a wry smile as she realized who it was she had 'saved' from the ice. It had been a while since Melanthios had been in the area but she was pleased to see him, it was nice to be around someone who didn't judge her on how she looked, or make comments about the way her mane and tail faded from view. Oh her family was fine with it - the gods knew her parents were a bit less then normal looking themselves, but the random Soquili she met on the trails could be less accepting. Some of them were downright cruel.

In any case there was little point in thinking such dark thoughts now was there and when her friend stepped closer to see if she was alright she took the opportunity to scoop some snow up with her muzzle and throw it at his oh so concerned looking face. Ha! Teach him to tease her! "Perfectly fine." She assured him with a chuckle. "I had a soft landing" Carfully extracting herself from the rest of the snowbank she avoided the slippery ice and shook off the rest of the snow.

( Sorry, I feel like the post is a little unorganized. But hopefully I can get back into the swing of it in the next post XD )

The large stallion with white haunting eyes gave the sweet mare a frown, his lips curving over his spiked teeth when the snow she tossed at him hit him. The snow melted from his body heat and slipped right off his pelt. He continued to frown at her as she spoke and gave off a sigh.

He couldn't help but feel that fondness to her. She was raised be able to treat those like himself 'normal'. The elder stallion raised his head and gave the mare a look. "So you wanted to take a little dip in the snow." With a small shake of his head. "I'll never understand the youth of today." When the new leader had taken over the Eternal Fiamma, Melanthios took the opportunity to travel and see how the world has changed. And he had to admit, he was starting to feel outdated.

"Well my dear, if it wouldn't be to much trouble, could I accompany you for a bit?" He asked stately. He wouldn't want to inconvenience her or waste her time if she was in a rush. Such things were beyond him. He had an interesting, well interesting to him at least topic that he wanted to discuss with her. 'If she had the ability to make a change in the world as we know it, what would she choose to change?'

Everyone had a different answer. But he had a lot of faith in this mare and the way she saw the world. He was the adviser of Eterna Fiamma but now with Lutra leading, he needed to see what 'today's' world was.

It was fine =-)

Ipswich merely continued to give the stallion a warm look as he frowned at her, completely ignoring his gruff expression and secure in the knowledge that underneath he was less so, he had always been kind to her and it was that kindness that she used to base her judgement. "Want might be a bit of a strong word..." She admit with flick of her tail, recalling the skid of her hooves on the ice "But come summer I expect that we will long for the opportunity." She concluded.

"Of course, I was on my way to gather herbs for my mother, the stores are running low after winter - but I can gather as we walk and talk, it will make the time go by faster with some company." She told him with an accepting bob of her head. "Besides it has been a while since we spoke, it will be pleasant to catch up a bit." The stallion was often good for an interesting discussion, he was wise and perceptive and had a viewpoint that she could often relate too, being different as she and her family were. Someday she would like to travel away from the beach, see some more of the world and the Soquili within it, she suspected that Melanthios had seen a great deal in his lifetime and could only hope that she herself would come away from her travels with a similar mindset in the end. The sea knew she did not want to be as jaded as her father could be.

“Aren’t you the busy bee.” She glanced at her and then would join her as she went on, careful to avoid the ice on the ground. The sun bright and the snow hard and stiff. This mustn’t be a fun time for the mare to travel and collect herbs. But he was happy to hear that he could accompany her. As they began to walk, Melathnios filled her in on the few travels and the herd, he asked after her family the usual things to catch up. He knew of her desire to explore and wished on occasion he could bring her to Eterna Fiamma so that she would have the opportunity but he never felt that the offer would be appropriate.

He was interested in hearing about what she had been up too. She always had interesting things to say. She had a family, met many other horses. Such personality that this mare had. Outwardly he looked like his usual, possibly, grumpy self. But inside he was eager to listen to her. After they had caught up he would pose the question to her. But for now he was content listening to his friends voice fill the air about her days.

He hallow eyes would glance to her on and off as she spoke. He used his horn to lift a branch out of the young mares way and then let her gently fall back into place. The snow that covered the branch fell off after his tail moved back and forth propped up in the air.
