When she was standing in the open space staring at a case sitting on the counter. All that warm dripping frosting all over the top of that amazing looking Cinnabon roll. Cherry's eyes and mouth were both pretty much drooling. She was just here for the shoes. She didn't want to be frivolous and just help herself to buying a roll. She knew she wouldn't buy just one. These were some of her most favorite things in the world to eat. She'd probably get at least a half dozen. Then, she inwardly wondered if she could work up a recipe of her own that would be even better than these. These were great because of a great bread and a great frosting.

Finally, after lurking a while, she got in line. She moved her bouncing curled ends of her tresses back over her shoulder while she waited. Then, she waited some more. Then, while she had been musing about her new shoes, she clicked back to her here and now to notice she had been standing in line longer than normal. What was the hold up?

She stepped sideways to look towards the counter where the register was. There was some girl. She was holding up the line.

"Oh no... oh no..." The woman at the front of the line had eyes as bright red as cherries, though at the moment, their main glisten was that of distress as she fingered through a bright aqua mock leather purse.

"I'm so sorry." She apologized, anxiously. "I thought it was here when I left the house, my little sister must have..." She started to explain, flicking at a strand of magenta hair. She realized just as quickly that there was no point in explaining, and her face darkened with a humiliated blush. She was absolutely going to strangle her sister, and she had been looking forward to this all day.

"I'm so sorry. Please... please cancel the order. I'm so sorry. This is just..."

It was so embarrassing. She could feel people staring at her, including the cashier, and she was sure very few of them believed that she'd actually misplaced her wallet... or rather... had it misplaced for her.

Observing the going-ons at the register, Cherry had quietly stepped out of line and suddenly slinked up next to the girl who looked frightfully embarrassed. Cherry had forgotten her credit cards at home once or twice when she had thought she had them. It was incredibly embarrassing. Being a girl who thinks on her feet rather well, the brunette was quick to make her move.

She cleared her throat with a little noise. "How much is her order?" When the cashier repeated the total, Cherry plastered her best million dollar smile she could muster. She twirled a strand of hair around her finger as she gave the cashier some eyes.

"Well, hey... tell you what... can I just... put my order in? I'll pay for both at the same time."

There had been some grumbling from the people who Cherry cut in front, but it became obvious the cashier just wanted this scene to be done, over with, and no longer in front of his register. When he had stared at Cherry for a few beats, he asked what she wanted.

"I'll take 2 boxes of 4. Plus whatever this young woman was ordering. Oh, and can you add one of those cherry smoothies? Pleeeeasssee...."

While the young man went to gather their order, he looked like he was wondering what he had done to deserve this. As far as Cherry was concerned, he should be thinking that same question except in an entirely different light.

Cherry then looked at the girl. "Don't worry, sweetiepie. I got this covered. MMmk?"

Vanhi didn't look even slightly less embarrassed as the crowd grumbled at the red-heads skirt to the front of the line, eyes widening with a little confusion, and she mouthed silent appologies to the people behind them in line as the order was filled, two boxes of cinnamon rolls, a cherry smoothie, and an large cup of soft cinnamon sticks, curiously without the cup of dipping frosting, which Vanhi reached for with an sheepish dip of her head.

"I'm so, SO sorry. Can I get your name or something? I'll pay you back as soon as I get my wallet back..." She promised. She was used to sharing food with friends and family, but the unexpected act of generosity had caught her totally off guard.

Still embarrassed but trying to get herself back to a state of unruffled calm, she adjusted her purse strap again, put the cup of cinnamon sticks in one hand and offered the other to the woman with hair the color of varnished cherry wood.

"I'm Vanhi Talwar." She offered. "Can I... I don't know... help you with anything?" She asked, as the line (with a few more frowns and pointed glares from the other people) moved forward again.

Cherry was smiling away. No smug "i did this for you so you owe me" kind of smile. It was just a regular "the sky is full of sunshine, and I'm walking on it." kind of smile. It was more or less fueled by her endless conceited nature. She always thought everything she did was great and fantastic. In some situations, she could be their hero, their villain, their wet dream, or their worst nightmare. At the drop of a hat, she could be whatever she felt was what a situation called for.

Right then, she was being a hero. It was a moment full of warm and fuzzies, and Cherry enjoyed those sometimes. As she was getting older and spending more and more time working; she was finding she experiences less and less of them. It wasn't very often anymore she did things for others that was entirely selfless.

"Oh, I'm Cherry. Nice to meet you." She collected her order and walked away from the line and the disapproving and angry stares from some people. Whatever. Cutting in line.. well, that just fell under her inconsistent feel for rights and wrongs. It was never a question of right or wrong. It was usually a question of what was right for her. In the end, she benefited from stepping in to help. She got her order right away.

"Aww.. Well, as nice as that is, I can't let you repay me, but let's see. Why don't you come sit with me while i have one or two of these. Would you mind carrying this?" It was her drink. Between the bag of shoes she had and her stack of cinnamon roll boxes, she had over thought how much her hands could carry.

"O-ok!" Vanhi usually didn't find herself ruffled very often, but this woman seemed to have a touch of skill at keeping her just a little off balance. "Still, thank you very much." She took the drink in he free hand, and nodded at a empty corner table. "How about there? There's enough room to put your bags by the wall where they should be easy to watch and out of the way."

The bag was from a nice store, it would be a shame if the contents were knocked over or scuffed.

"Sorry if I'm nosy, what did you get? I bet they're amazing."

When they were sat down, Cherry opened up her bag and pulled out one of her red heeled booties. "Look at this! Aren't these fab? I got it at a good deal too. I almost wanna go out this week just to wear them somewhere. Hmm. Then again, I almost feel like these shoes need a tank top or tunic to coordinate with them. That'd be pretty sharp."

She was feeling in a rather chipper mood. The vanity in her liked knowing she had something new to make her look just as good as always. The woman in her delighted in new shoes. Never too many pairs of shoes. Her wardrobe in her closet was pretty modest, but her shoe organizer was pretty full.

She then opened one of her boxes of cinnamon rolls. She inhaled a deep scent of these delicious goodies. She'd eat one right away. These were always at their best when eaten fresh.

"Ooh, those are wild." She wasn't entirely sure what to make of such an unique cross between a sneaker and a high heel. It wasn't a look she could pull off, but it did seem to fit neatly with this woman's personal style.

"They're so... dress sport. Maybe..." She debated for a moment. "You need to play up on them crossing both worlds I think. Maybe like a sleek, close to body silk tank top, the tank top idea is good, or a hooded sweater in cashmere or something. Something that nods to both worlds while leaning toward the luxury aspect." She was almost building it in her head now. "...And a clunky watch, but elegant, not just a sports watch." She added thoughtfully, extracting a cinnamon stick from her cup and nibbling at it with a contemplative, delighted 'hmm' sound. Mm. Cinnamon sticks. So delicious.

Cherry gazed at her with a sudden admiration as she finished the bun. She decided not to eat anymore. It wouldn't look good to gorge yourself on sweets in front of unacquainted company. She liked that. Wild. There were many adjectives she filed under her opinions of herself. She had never thought to include wild. Would that be fitting of her? Hmm. Maybe. It could. It sounded like it needed to.

The more suggestions about how to make the shoes work; Cherry more and more thought of what she had at home to work in those groupings. She had some of them, but not enough to make a whole outfit. Oh mans. She sat with a meek and humble look on her face for a moment. "That sounds fantastic. Amazing really. I do really like the sounds of the hooded sweater."

Admittingly, the one area of life where Cherry could always use more help was with fashion. Truth be told, she gravitated towards skank-like attire. Lots of mini skirts. Heels for sure. She felt it was a no brainer that her look would only be made better with the help of someone like this.

"Hey um... This might... be weird.. or awkward for me to ask of you, but would you mind terribly? To... help me find one that looks good? I have a black mini at home that has golden running stripes down each side. The way some track pants do? Do you think that would work with that hooded sweater look? I can totally use your help. I look great, but I'm sure I'd look even better with your help."

Vanhi broke into a smile the way the sky breaks into dawn, it spread quietly and made her practically glow with quiet pride over the success of her suggestion.

"I can do that!" she agreed. She loved working with color, and working with color on someone else's budget? That sounded like fun. "I think the skirt sounds like a great fit. Maybe a red sweater, or a red and black one, something to play into the colors on the shoes." She suggested. "Have you tried that store on the far end of the mall? The one by the jewelers... the one with the ridiculous name."

To be fair she thought plenty of store names were a little ridiculous, but some were just sillier than others, and anyway, she remembered them as having good sweaters.

"So here's an question of equal potential awkwardness." she added, taking another bite of her own sweet cinnamon confectionery. "May I interview you while we shop? I do an blog, I report on thing around DC that I don't see being covered well or thoroughly. I really want to start interviewing people around DC. I want to know how people really feel about the way things have been."

She wanted to compare it to the news, and to call them to task, in so much as she could, if she found even the slightest deviation from the truth. Also uncovering any sort of scandal in the local media would be such an bonus that she'd practically predicted one without even having started interviews yet.

Cherry was like the perfect pupil listening to these tips and tricks about how to make these shoes really work for her. Oh yes. She loved any and all help to assist her in wowing the world with her sexiness. Every time she went to a bar or out for a night out; she was always trotting herself out on display.

At the approach about the interview, Cherry's eyes grew big and wide. If this girl were older, Cherry might joke about how the best way to see how Cherry feels is to touch her and find out. Well, this young lady was obviously very young. There'd be no such sorts of talk like that here today.

In any case, she was appealed to greatly by that. "Oh sure. You can interview me about anything you want. If it goes well, you could always request me again for opinions on other things as well." Then, her mind caught up about the issue. "What do you mean by the way things have been? Have then been bad?"

Leave it to Cherry to be entirely oblivious to going-ons around town. She was always more than completely and entirely caught up in her life pursuits. As of late, they had mostly been men and her baking. Still, sometimes, they branched into other aspects when those two were a little boring, or she felt she needed extra excitement.

Vanhi blinked, honestly surprised. Was the woman new? Wait that wouldn't even explain it. Not that she'd traveled much but massacres like the ones that had been going on surely.... she needed to spend some time looking around. Had there been a cover up? Did the world not know that Destiny City was at war with itself??

"Well... you know... the terrorist situation? The people in costumes? The killings? It used to be there was a lot of debate, but now the local news says it's all the ones in white, the... Senshi." That was the term she thought. "We're basically in the middle of a war, in our own back yards and we don't even know who the armies are."

She fished out the recorder swiftly, laying it clearly on the table between them. "I want to know what you think about the current state of the city, with that sort of thing affecting every day life.

For a few beats, Cherry just stared at this girl. Did she dare tell t he real truth? The truth that Cherry really just didn't give a s**t as long as she was left to live her life how she wanted. She would just avoid the stuff that looked like something she didn't want to get involved with. The stuff she wanted to do; she did it just carefully. Moreover, she was one of those people who deep down knows it's going on. Rather, she prefers to be an ostrich about it with her head in the sand. Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil.

Then, she grew a disbelieving almost mocking look. "Do you really believe those stories? The news just loves to say anything to get more viewers and jack their ratings up. You never can believe the media entirely. They are manipulated by the government to say or not allowed to be said things to control people. I don't consider the news a reliable source. Newspapers are more reliable, but you know what? It's like.. I forget where I heard this, but 'You keep your nose out of trouble, and no trouble will come to you.' That's just how I see it. I have yet to really witness any of these shenanigans going down. I guess I just feel like... I'll believe it when I see it."

Wasn't that just like so many people? People who can't contribute useful wisdom or knowledge till it's too late and you're in too deep. People who live their life with nothing but hindsight. Just like she turned a blind eye to the darker parts of her own soul, she turned a blind eye to the things that moved in the shadows. She ignored the things that went on that were inexplicable. If it were meant for her to know, one day it'll fall into her lap. She could only hope when that happened; there might be someone amazingly gorgeous on the other end; lest it should feel entirely not worth the bother.

"I beleive in the statistics on Destiny City's premature deaths and remarkably high rate of people lapsing into comas and dying." Vanhi's red eyes glittered like cold cut glass. "It's interesting that you dismiss the television as being a biased source. This is actually why I am doing interviews. If the media is behind, say, the mass kidnapping event where people were reported as vanishing from their own homes, and from in front of their own friends, I mean to know about it. And I mean to know if the views on the terrorists are the views actually felt by the people of the city."

She had her own thoughts on Cherry's stance, and it was so hard to keep them locked up (they could come later, when she blogged about this. ) that her lips thinned with the effort to keep the words locked behind it.

"So you haven't encountered anything unusual, and don't know anyone who has? No..." She searched for the words. "No relatives or friends who have experienced first or second hand some form of unusual activity or violence in the city?"

This was an interview, not an attack. She wasn't one of those tacky talking head programs out to attack people the second they opened their mouth, even if she did disagree.

Cherry squirmed in her seat. She loved this being interviewed stuff. That was totally for her. However, this having her answers put to more closer inspection was a little surprising. She hadn't been prepared for it. Her mind quickly working in order to make herself sound great.

"Well, a lot of comas are pretty unusual. I guess I just haven't been personally effected by all of this. I mean, I don't really have a lot of family. I mostly just work and occasionally get out to do a fun thing or two. I can't tell you the last time I went shopping like today. Most of any excursions I make are either to a club or if I feel like it... taking photos of people in the park."

She thought a moment. "Well, I met this guy who told me that his shop had been torn apart and his car messed up. I know that I participated in a valentine's day auction to raise money to help rebuild a lot of businesses that have been damaged in some of the nonsense. I really don't know more than that though."

She was about to also tell her to just go ahead and think badly of Cherry if the girl wanted, but Cherry had no interest in trying to learn more about these things. She somehow felt like the less she knew ; the better. Sometimes, there was just too much sorrow and anxiety in the wake of too much knowledge. For her own part, Cherry was much happier keeping her head in the sand.
