Ok, so here's an interesting quandary for you:
Is it possible to be a Hinbu (a Hindu Buddhist)?
There are such things as Christian Jews, so why not a Hindu Buddhist?

I don't see why not. I mean, taking the aspects of Buddhism and adding them to parts of your life while having faith in Hindu is perfectly acceptable if you were to ask me.

I'm pretty sure it's possible. Buddhism can be combined with any religion (i.e, a Pagan Buddhist), and there seem to be some similarities between Hinduism and Buddhism.

In a way, Buddhism is really a kind of Hinduism, only in a format that's easier to export and adapt to other cultures. To really study and live like a Hindu, you are pretty well confided to India since it's so thoroughly ingrained into the people.
I don't see any problem with combining the two. They both ultimately have the same goals, just a change in terminology and methods in some places.

I gave this a lot of thought myself. ^^;; Over time I've come to know that anything is possible, and you can "be" anything you want to be. I come from a Hindi spiritual heritage, but I was always interested in Buddhism. But when I finally decided to live according to (specifically) Buddhist ways, I began to understand that not all of it is for me. For example, I don't believe it is necessarily the greatest thing to 'climb off the wheel of samsara' i.e become enlightened and cease to be reborn. I want to stay here. ^^;;

In any case I think it's fine to be Buddhist-Hindu. ^^; I practice the Shakti branch, but I also draw from western Paganism as well.

I think it is only tough if you look at it from one way - if you were Christian, for example, you would be 'sinning' if you were also to practice Hinduism. But not the other way. For more open religions like Buddhism and Hinduism, it's probably okay. ^^;;

I think in Hinduism, the Buddha Siddartha Gautama was somehow the son of Shiva or Vishnu.

Correct me if I'm wrong, please. smile

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I read that somewhere as well. I seem to remember reading somewhere that Jesus Christ was supposed to be a reincarnation of Buddha, which wouldn't make any sense seeing as Buddha was enlightened, but I guess anything is possibly

I think that Jesus was enlightened but I don't believe he is the reborn spirit of Buddha. I belive that the Buddha went to nirvana and out of him came all of the Bodhisattvhas. Err- something like that.
