The air was warm, the pumpkin sun set not but half an hour past, and red lights and lanterns lined the crude walkways of the horsemen sanctuary. It was a festival, a party, a celebration of all things horseman.
Or rather, horses in general.
Citizens and students who were of equine nature found themselves whisked away and placed in fine elaborate outfits, free treats and toys piled into their empty arms. Welcomed, as equals, the equines were just another horse among the ever growing herd.

Booths and carts stood of the path, peddling their wares and games and delicacies. Apple pies, tarts, hard cider and virgin cider offered freely. Hay and grass accent dishes were sold along with little salt lollipops and carrot chips. Oatmeal and molasses cookies along with carrot and sweet cakes were handed out to foals and scarelings alike, while steamers and fireworks were offered to the adults. It was a bright time, jovial and gay. The normal arrogance and prejudice that might have been held seemed a world away as all who gathered celebrated.

Hair brushes, ribbons to tie into manes, new shoes, and warm blankets were also on sale, vendors trying to play off of the excitement of the night to make a few sales.

The new lunar year often only merited minor notice, and even then, it was usually conquest who paid much mind to it. Yet this year was THE year. The year of the horse. Good fortune, health, prosperity- these are the things the priestesses said would come. The things told in tea cups and in the stars. The year of the horse came only once every 12 years-
So naturally, everypony was invited to the party.

Quote:
THE OOC

In celebration of the lunar new year and year of the horse, the horsemen have gone and thrown a HUGE party- for everyone! Horse based students, and horsemen are honored, and others are encouraged to embrace their inner pony. If that be by gorging on apple pie, racing, or prancing around.

ICly, the party lasts only a single night. Various threads exist to separate locations, but canonly all are connected and happening on the same night. You are in charge of what character is where and when. AKA: Manage your own timelines appropriately.

On games, you can play with as many characters as you want for IC prizes, however, please pick ONE character to win OoC prizes! This is to prevent mass winning for any one thing and it just makes it easier for those running booths/threads!

Each booth is run by a particular horseman. The person who plays that character is the one in charge of that booth and it's prize distribution. If you have any issues please PM iStoleYurVamps!

Ye Olde Tourney

The path was cordoned off from foot traffic, the way across only a tall bridge that looked to have once been the skeleton of a giant worm or dragon thing. The path was long and narrow, well over five miles in length, flat and well worn from hooves, and if someone wished to test themselves or show off? This was the place to do it.

Lit by the red and yellow lanterns, at times it would black out, becoming more dangerous than before-games were both private and public. Planned and unscheduled. The planned competitions were a center for bets, the unscheduled ones between friends and rivals.

For horsemen, it was mount bound, for equine students and citizens, they were allowed to use their natural form provided they stayed on the course and the equipment could attach.
All others- had to ride on special mutant large minipets- either the Swiftmane, the Treat, the Wild, or the Harvest variety.

Each mutant mini could be equip with one of four saddles, each one possessing special properties.
To Conquest- the ability for an initial speed push.
To War- the ability to charge through an obstacle.
To Famine- the ability to outlast others with stamina.
To Death- A final push at the finish.

All anyone needed to do to participate was to see a small little famine and war duo who sat at the starting gate. One collecting names and times- the other handling the money.

JOUSTING

There are 3 ways to participate:
-Betting
-Jousting (horsemen/equine students)
-Jousting (minipets)

BETTING:
Betting is passive and requires little effort. You roll 4d4and predict which of the 4 competitors (Swiftmane, Treat, Wild or Harvest) will win. The order in which the dice were rolled determines your 'bet'.
1- Swiftmane
2- Treat
3- Wild
4- Harvest

Each mini's rider is a random contestant, the pole arms and shields provided by 'staff'.

IE: I roll 4, 3, 3, 1. That means I think HARVEST will come in first in the tiny tourney, Wild in either 2nd or 3rd, and Swiftmane last.

Next I roll 4d4 again. I match these dice to my first roll- if any match, I have won that bet!
IE: On my second roll, I get 2, 4, 3,2. That means I was wrong for 1st and 2nd place and 4thh, but right about 3rd!

If the dice match you win the prize from that place.
First die match- A small replica of the saddle that is Conquest themed.
Second die match- A small replica of the saddle that is War themed.
Third die match- A small replica of the saddle that is Famine themed.
Fourth die match- A small replica of the saddle that is Death themed.

NOTE: These saddles do nothing, and only fit on your average foxfire.

RACING (ponies)
NOTE- You need to go against someone to joust- this is a partner activity!

If a horseman or equine student with a horse natural form, you may joust! But you've got to be equipped first. You are assigned a saddle, one that prevents cheating. ALL must use them. These 'saddles' have s traw man on the back with a special frame that holds a shield and pole arm so you don't have to if you are the one 'running' as it were.
You are given one saddleby rolling 1d4.
(1-conquest, 2- war, 3, famine, 4-death)

Once you have your saddle, roll 5d100. Each die represents 1 strike that you had to make. After both contestants have rolled, tally your score. The one with the higher score wins.

Either way, the winner gets the spoils- Who ever won gets a medium sized saddle- the same one they wore. If with more than 2 players, only the first prize winner wins the saddle.
The medium saddle is decorative, and cannot be adjusted to fit the average mount form/natural form.

Jousting (minipets)
Jousting on minipets is free for ANYONE to play. It's also a partner based game, so the min requirement is 2 players.

The mechanics are the same to start with. Roll 1d4 to determine saddle. (1-conquest, 2- war, 3, famine, 4-death)

You can pick one of four mutant large, ride-able pony minipets-Swiftmane, Treat, Wild, Harvest

In order to race you need to roll 1d4 FIVE times. Each time, compare your score to your 'rival' and to the chart below:
1- Your mount gets momentarily distracted by a bush of tasty leaves (-1)
2- Nearby, fireworks go off, starting your mount (-1)
3- A puddle in the path, you get splashed with mud. (no change)
4- The smell of apple pie spurs your mount to speed up a bit (+1)
5- You hear somebody yelling about the magic of friendship and you and your mount feel a bond forming. (+1)
7- Your mount bucked after you cracked the reins. GENTLE!!! (-1)

After you both have rolled your scores the one with the highest score wins! You CAN go into the negatives on this by the by. A tie means one last round (or until a point difference).

There is one winner per race and the winner obtains a life sized, fully useable, saddle of the one they used- HOWEVER, if they have won a saddle before you can trade the old one in for the new one. AKA: You can only get 1 life sized saddle- you can turn down the prize but that will not make 2nd place obtain it, it just means no one does.

ALSO NOTE FOR HORSEMEN/PONY STUDENTS:
If you were to want this saddle on your mount/natural form you'd manually have to put it on each time/carry it around with you. These saddles are not naturally part of your FEAR and thus- are not naturally going to appear on you.

All the lanterns hung in neat little rows, fillies and foals and colts were happily carrying them around looking for a place to hang their own amongst the throng of yellow, red, and golden lights. Each lantern symbolized a wish, a memory, a hope, a dream. They were things of light, things to gather and bring warmth from the cold October air.

In a single little stall, a small little war filly sat, pot of hot chocolate on her little stand to pour the occasional passerby a drink. With this drink came two charms.

With two charms came a chance-

With two charms came fortune or misfortune, and what happened well, that was up to luck wasn't it?

Quote:
Charm'd!

Picking up one of these two charms will prompt either a lucky or UNlucky occurrence! Rolling 2d4 RP out your results!

First die- If even you've rolled lucky! If odd.. well something bodes ill for your fate.

Second die- Results for prompt.

If you rolled lucky:
1- You find a nearby vendor handing out sweets for free! Biting into one, you get the sense that nothing can go wrong and you have nothing to worry about when it comes to prosperity.
2- The sound of coins scattering- you feel a sudden weight in your pocket- It looks like someone slipped you a handful of silver seeds! Looks to be a wealthy year in your future!
3- As you move along, a handsome young nightmare student hands you freshly withered black rose. Perhaps a sign that things might be looking daisies for your love life.
4- The giggling of ghouls, a few you walk by pull you aside and tell you all about this new perfume, guaranteed to motivate your mind as well as body. Apple spice scented, you feel invigorated and ready to take on the future.

If you rolled unlucky:
1- You run into someone and end up getting what looks like shaved ice all down your front! It's cold, sticky, and wet. At the very least, a nice stall owner hands you a clean shirt... even if it's a horrible gaudy thing that is in comic sans and clip art for the celebration...
2- A shibe pack runs by you and trips you up. While you're down, your assaulted by shibe, and by the time you get up, you realize... they ran off with your wallet. You just got mugged by street shibe.
3- Two conquestian horsemen are fighting in what sounds like Russian. It's a bit frightening, and before you know it, they are forcing you into their fight by trying to prove that one of them was cheating at cards... In a flash you find yourself playing against them and when you put an ace onto the table, one of the horsemen pulls a Desu-chan, table flipped and storming off. You just apparently won a fresh durain??? But also now are being sent death stares and should probably just leave the durain somewhere discreet. Plus it smells. Like durain.
4- You eat a mandarin. The mandarin isn't ripe.

The slender, winged horseman behind the booth glances up as you approach, and gives you a warm smile before pointing to the sign above that reads Pin the Tail on the Pony. Before him lies a black piece of cloth, and what appears to be a bundle of feathers sewn together by a string, with a small needle protruding. A large wooden cutout of a horse stands just to one side of the booth. The horseman, still smiling, speaks up. "It's the Year of the Pony, and if you'd like to play, you could win a pony of your own."

He was speaking of the prizes just behind him. There were a multitude of stuffed horse plushes, decorated according to the four clans.

User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image

[Conquest] - [War] - [Famine] - [Death] - [Clan]

He seemed to be working as he waited, for just as many more blank horses were piled behind him, and the brush in his hand as he focused on a half-finished pony was a tell-tale sign.

Try to make off with one of the plushes.
An eerie-looking minipet lifts its head from the far side of the booth, staring curiously to you with eyes that almost seem to peer right through your core. You quietly place the plush back down and back towards the front of the booth. Lucky for you, the horseman doesn't seem to notice.

Ask him about the game.
After a moment, the horseman seems to acknowledge you, and dons a warm smile. "The game is simple," he says. "You put on the blindfold and attempt to pin the 'tail' here, onto the horse as accurately as possible. The blindfold makes it difficult, but if you can manage a perfect pin, you could win one of these horses behind me, or one of your very own. Give it a go if you like."

Pin the Tail on the Pony How-to

For this game, players ICly attempt to pin a tail onto a horse cut-out while blindfolded, the object of the game being to place it as accurately as possible. To play, you simply roll 1d100 and RP the results out. Good luck! Prizes are premade or custom plushes your character may ICly keep. See below if you win a prize!

1-20: You take aim, and stick the pin ... directly into the rump of the horse! The horseman beams, mumbling something along the lines of "W-what a fine pony you'll make!" as he passes you a horse of your own. You win a premade pony plush! Please claim your above plush with the post below.

21-40: "Eenie-meanie, miney-mo, catch a Levathia by the toe-" You tack your pin to the board, only to discover you've pinned the tail to the horse's head! You win nothing! Better luck next time.

41-50: You aim, and launch the tack into the wood. Fortunate for you, you managed to at least pin the horse's back flank. The horseman smiles and hands you your prize. You win a premade pony plush! Please claim your above plush with the post below.

51-70: You gauge the direction of the horse, and pin the tail on ... to the horse's midriff. You win nothing! Better luck next time.

71-90: After spinning around dizzily in circles a few times, you stumble around the booth before pinning the tail straight into the side of the booth itself! Spookie points for you! You win nothing! Better luck next time.

91-100: After stumbling around for a few minutes in the pitch darkness of the blindfold, you weigh your options and make your move, pinning the tail--PERFECTLY! You earn yourself a beaming smile from the horseman behind the booth, and a special prize. You win a custom pony plush! Please claim your custom plush with the post below.

It happened in the blink of an eye. One minute the horseman was painting furiously with his brush, and the next the plush in his hand had taken on a bit too much FEAR, as with a shrill cry it burst into a shower of fluff. What appeared in it's place was a full-grown pony that began to rampage about the booth. Prizes went flying, the horse cut-out toppled. Something had to be done, or the entire booth would be ruined!!

Roll 1d6 and RP out the results! Those who roll correctly and quote xoxomenai with minis SN will win an Equitum Cantus Spiderlily SE!

1: You go chasing after the plush-turned-horse, but the pony is too fast, and disappears between the booths. Better luck next time!

2: You manage to land astride the horse, and attempt to blind it with the blindfold, but the horse rears last-minute, tossing you to the ground. Better luck next time!

3: You attempt to corral the horse into the booth, but the sudden appearance of the horseman's pet startles the creature, sending it stampeding yet again. Better luck next time!

4: You manage to corner the horse, but before you can decide what to do, the creature rears, and breaks off at a run about the booth! Better luck next time!

5: The creature comes whizzing by, and you leap, half-astride the horse before you lose your grip and go tumbling. Better luck next time!

6: You manage to corner the creature (again, if you've already rolled a 4), just as the horseman approaches with a bridle and rope before tying it off to a nearby tree. Success! You have won an Equitum Cantus Spiderlily SE!

race for the sun

A fair distance away from Amityville's gym, but still within sight of it, someone had cleared a large circle of space for four complex racetracks. An arch of red and gold ribbons stretched over the entrance to the area, fluttering in the breeze, and beneath it sat a folding table covered with the same, only these had been rolled and glued into familiar swirls.

User Image
take one

Although a yawning Famine horseman was standing nearby and occasionally surveying both the booth and the tracks with pride, Mmur hadn't had a thing to do with actually setting them up.

"HEY! You!" he shouted at the passersby, far too loudly and far too often. "Come over here! Show everyone how fast you are and win a prize!" He didn't mention the betting that was also going on at the table, but anyone who got close enough to pick up a ribbon would be able to see the sign.

Don't feel like racing?
Confident you'll win?
Place a bet!

"You can run, bet, or both," Mmur added at a lower volume. "Personally, I'd pick racing, but..." He waved a hand at the box of money and trinkets he'd collected from unlucky gamblers. "Betting's popular too."

The soldier yawned again, then leaned forward into your personal space. "Don't get any ideas." If you try to steal from the booth, he will cut you.

Welcome to Race for the Sun!

You may only race and bet once per day for prizes, but you may do so as many times as you like for fun.

Quote:
If you'd like to race:

  • Choose a track. The descriptions are only for RP purposes and the dice you use for each are the same.

Conquest
A quiet track with rolling hills throughout and sweet-smelling flowers along the edges of the path. Although it may appear sedate and relaxing, don't let the landscape fool you. There are plenty of pitfalls along the way, including blinding pollen and trap arrows.

Famine
Sand and artificial sun dominate here, along with scorpions, serpents, and spiders, oh my! Be sure you bring enough water! Dehydration will only enhance the effects of the potent hallucinatory student-friendly aerated potions that are being pumped onto the track via strategically-located cacti.

Death
A straightforward course... if you like running on cold, damp rock formations underground. Keep an eye out for all of those jagged gems underfoot around the three-quarter mark. You might think you can steal one as a reward for suffering through so much, but the jewelcrafters see all. You'll never make it off this course with your prize.

War
A treetop paradise. It would be so much more pleasant if you weren't expected to race through it. Rope bridges provide the only stable footing between the start and finish lines, but there are several shortcuts as well, in the form of branches and vines to swing on. The animals don't seem to be particularly pleased with your presence either, and they will happily find many a way to slow you down at the slightest provocation.

  • Roll 5d20. Your character is represented by the third die. If the third number is higher than the rest, you win. Congratulations!

There are no ties. If you tie, you lose.

Iron Pony

Walking past a booth you notice that it is actually a fully set up, fully functional, kitchen. A tall horseman paces nearby, scowling at anyone who shows too much interest in the dishes being cooked and generally trying to coerce people into entering the booth and trying out his game.

His game? A simple cooking challenge. To make a creative, tasty, and original dish using a secret ingredient, which will be revealed if and when you accept this challenge. If you try to refuse the challenge you will be faced with stares of judgment.

The secret ingredient is written on a slip of paper that you pull out of the hat. No matter how many pieces of paper you fish through, digging around in the bottom or skimming off the top, when you unfold the paper it simply reads one word. Apples. This is your challenge. You have 30 minutes. You may begin.

Game Rules

Roll 3d10. The first number is for taste, the second is for originality, and the third is for presentation.

RP out your character making a dish, keeping in mind the results below.

Total score:
3-6: Soren takes one look at your dish and throws it in the trashcan. Even he is not willing to try this swill.
7-12: Soren grudgingly takes a bite, and then a second and a third. He doesn't finish your dish and he may or may not look slightly ill, but he didn't give you a hard time about it either.
13-21: Good for you, you made a decent dish. Soren hands your plate/bowl/platter back empty and motions you toward the sink to clean up after yourself, but not before giving you a pat on the head. You win approval.
22-29: Soren devoured your dish with gusto! In a fit of generosity he gives you an actual prize, and then tells you that he expects you to bring him another batch in the near future. It's hard to tell, but you're pretty sure he's not joking. ((Quote ramenli with your minis sn and your choice of one of the SEs here or 10k silver))
30: Soren takes a single bite of your food and sets his fork down. He is so overcome with the amazingness of your dish that he needs to share the flavor with you. One passionate kiss later and Soren is back to acting like nothing has happened, all but inhaling your dish. You may be stalked in the near future. ((Quote ramenli with your minis sn and your choice of two of SEs here or 20k))

Calder was a pony, in some sense. He had 2 equine forms, and he also was clearly half horse when he was wearing his pin. That mean that, for today, he was a god among students.

He managed to somehow find a tiara, and after a dress-up session from the locals due to being honored on this very great day, Calder now strutted his sweet stuff down the avenue with a sassy flicking of his tail. He wasn't really sure what the day all meant, but it celebrated all horse-ish kind, and that was one thing he could get behind. Better yet, there were horse minipets about, and his already massive herd was near completion.

Giddy, he debated just shifting now and causing a rukus, but instead grabbed himself a carrot on a stick and headed off to see what was going on.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 02, 2014 8:46 pm

Soren didn't really like students. He didn't particularly like any Halloweeners really. There were obviously some that were more useful than others, those that he knew a bit more, but for the most part they were a waste of his time.

Still, when he saw the tiaraed student prancing past, holding a carrot on a stick, he took note. He nodded at the colt in something frighteningly close to approval and then paused and cleared his throat to get his attention.

Then Soren did something completely out of character. He held out a caramel apple to the colt. Whether or not the student knew it, Soren would be seriously affronted if his gift was not accepted.

Probably not as affronted as the stranger that he had just stolen the caramel apple from in order to offer it to the colt, but today was the day for ponies, and Soren was going to get what he wanted.

The horseman would tense, and freeze everytime someone would approach him with a beaming smile, or overly friendly offers for treats or to decorate him in some sort of luxurious attire opposed to his own... typical, scanty garb. Really, festivities weren't something Quidel was entirely used to yet, nor was he really sure why he showed up in the first place. Perhaps to make a good impression for his kind, or at least show support... and perhaps it was to try and get out and about and be of use should someone need it.

Languidly lidded eyes slid about to the various booths set up, the beautiful decorations stringed and dotting the place... as well as the individual's who seemed to being a heck of a time. Wings folded out of the way gave a slight shift from time to time in a fidgeting manner, in a means to ease his discomfort with the foreign sights, smells, and sounds. To try and not seem too out of place, he did take notice and mild interest in some of the little trinkets that were designed to represent the various clans that once were... making what might have been a rather subtle, and solemn twitch of a smile flash across his lips for only a brief second.

At the clearing of said student's throat, Calder stopped and swallowed a mouthful of carrot before looking at the student, then at the caramel apple being held out. Ohhh, someone was paying tribute.

Swinging his hips, he walked over and grinned at the boil. "Hey there, good looking." He said, taking the boil's wrist in his hand and raising it before he took a bite of the apple that was offered, letting Soren still hold it as he ate from his hand.

Licking his lips, he watched him. "Thanks for the sweet. Have you been around a stallion before?" He asked.

Soren was about to move on, just as soon as the student took the apple, simply accepting the compliment as what was owed him, when the student reached out to bite out of the apple. With a shrug of his shoulders Soren lifted the apple to his own mouth. Leaving him alone with an apple would always, always result in it being devoured.

The student's question struck him as odd, and he gave the colt a confused look. Asking him if he'd been around a stallion? It was obvious what he was, and then his eyebrows raised at the student as he reached for conclusions about what was actually being asked. For a brief moment a few, several really, moments flashed before his eyes, long campaigns with receptive stallions and no mares around, and he gave the colt a slow nod before swallowing the bite in his mouth. He knew what his response had to be, and he felt bad for the colt. He was probably going to ruin his day. "I don't mount students though." Stallion or mare didn't matter much if they weren't a horseman.

He smiled at that. "Making assumptions, aren't we." Not wrong ones, but assumptions. Calder was more for playing these days than actually wanting something in the end. Barth brought enough people home, and sometimes even he liked to know he was doing better off. He was the better looking after all.

"I'm not talking about the ponies around here. A kelpie like myself is a horse of another color all together." He informed him, but let the boil me. "I was just going to see if you wanted to joust or not, but I guess you don't if mounting isn't on your mind." He of course knew what the other boil meant, as he had been clearly flirting.

"Do you even know how to ride?"

Mmur lifted his cheek from where it rested against the pocked wooden signup table. The area around him was beginning to fill up, but luckily no one had approached yet. If they had, they would have found the horseman in charge of the racing booth taking his first nap of the new year.

Furtively checking to make sure none of the prizes or money had been stolen before anyone could notice he'd been asleep, the soldier went back to people-watching once he found everything in order. Most everyone who wasn't manning a booth was paired off, whispering or chuckling over the decorations or food or clothing. All except... that guy.

Narrowing his eyes at the horseman of war, Mmur tilted his head to one side as he admired Quidel's wings and thorny tattoos. He found himself leaning forward across the table in front of him as the warrior passed, reaching out to try and touch those wings without the other noticing.
