With his son off running around doing missions with the flutter Lorenna, Delacroix finally had some much-needed alone time. Lapointe wouldn't be back for weeks, or longer, and Delacroix was celebrating by leaving his usual stomping grounds for some recreation. He'd chosen this beach as a good place to relax and so far it was. The sun shone down brightly and it was warm enough to make wading into the waves feel delightful. There weren't even any sickly mers washing up on shore this time like he had encountered on a previous beach trip.
All in all, it was a lovely day to spend on his own. He rolled in the sand, delighting in the abrasive feeling. He couldn't remember the last time he felt so relaxed!

Melanie hair blew behind her as she galloped and trotted along the ocean line. Her hooves kicking up the spray from each wave that rolled in to caress her ankles. She had to admit, this was alot better than what she had been doing lately. And oh, so, relaxing. Yes, this was the life. It had been a while since she'd taken sometime to herself and this is what she needed. With her all of her children grown and most mated it just seemed like a good time to spend getting to know herself again. And this, was just the place. A splash of purple caught her eyes in the distance and she veered toward it, her pace picking up slightly as she abandoned the waves and took to the heavy beach sand. From the looks of it, it was another soquili, a playful one from the looks of it. Grinning, the mare slowed as she closed in on him.

Delacroix was so delighted in his sand-rolling that he didn't notice the mare until she was close... embarrassingly close. He abruptly stopped rolling, heaving himself to his feet in a flurry of sand. One hoof slipped in the gritty stuff, leaving him sliding and stumbling to catch his feet.
When he finally had all four hooves steady underneath him, he grinned abashedly at the mare. "That didn't go exactly as I planned..." He finally was able to get a better look at her now that he had settled down. She had skull markings on her rump and on a bandana around her neck, but she hardly looked macabre. She was quite cute, even... which made his flailing all the more disgruntling.

Mel stepped around the delightfully amusing stallion, her face a light with a good-natured smile that quickly broke out into a laugh as he stumbled. Sand rained down on them, making her tilt her head down slight until it dissipated. Clearing her throat, Mel stepped back a bit, giving him a bit of space to gain his composure. "What didn't go as planned? " she asked curiously. "Surely there isn't much that could go wrong while you enjoy yourself..."
Blue eyes gave him a quick once over and she had to admit to herself that he was rather striking. With a short hair cut and the many scars that seemed to tell a horrific story, but also added a bit of gruffness to his feature that she kinda enjoyed.. "You didn't need to stop on my account."

"My hide can only take so much sand," Delacroix joked, brushing absently at his flank with the tufted end of his tail. In his younger and more irreverent days he might have asked the mare to join him in a good sand roll right then and there. For better or for worse, he'd matured since that time.
"Besides, if I was rolling around I would miss this lovely conversation, eh?" There was some of his old flair. He hoped that she wasn't about to tell him about some big kalona mate coming over the next sand dune over. That could ruin his amusement pretty fast.

"Aww.. and I heard it's suppose to be amazing for your skin..." Even with her growing age, she'd never fully mature. You were only as old as you felt, right?
"You don't have to miss a thing, hun. That's what multitasking is for." she teased, giving him a playful wink.
Her eyes shifted towards the setting sun, the cool breeze from the ocean sweeping her bangs from her face. "Besides, there's nothing more romantic than rolling around in the sand at sunset.." Mel said, grinning unabashed. "Don't you think?"

He'd definitely found a fun one. He'd never been so glad to have his sand rolling disrupted. If this was the sort of luck he had when his son was away, he wouldn't mind Delacroix staying gone for a long time!
"Romantic, eh?" he asked, taking up her playful tone. "Is that what your mate thinks?" He didn't hide his intention in asking, wanting to know whether she was single or just teasing. Teasing was fun, but he liked knowing what he was getting into ahead of time.

Mel's cheeks flushed a bit as she realized what he was asking. The coloring bringing the freckles on her cheek into better view. "I wouldn't be talking to you like this if I had a mate." Leaning in closer she whispered. "I only seduce one at a time.. anymore than that and someone might notice the disappearances" Her grin grew wide as she straightened.
This was definitely a stallion she could see herself spending more time with. He really was the breath of fresh air from the others she had met on her travels. "So what's your name, stranger?"

He laughed deeply at her joke, having a hard time imagining a lovely thing like her doing any sort of damage other than breaking hearts. "My name is Delacroix." He was all too happy to give her something to call him by and just hoped that his foreign-sounding name wouldn't thwart her.
"And what do your male victims usually call you?" he asked with a conspiratory wink.

"Nice to meet you, Delacroix." She gave him another toothy grin, her dark tail whipping slightly behind her. "But.. you're going to have to catch me if you wanna find out.." she teased, returning his playful wink. And with that, she took off down the beach. Her hooves kicking up the hot sand as she dashed towards to the surf.

Had that really just happened? He could only stare incredulously for a moment, confused smile left in place on his face. A moment later he snapped into action, running after her, though not at his full speed. It wouldn't be too fun if he caught her too quickly! Plus, the sand wasn't what he was used to. He didn't want to accidentally slip and make a mess of himself in front of a mare he wanted to impress.
He followed her towards the water, grinning as he wondered if they were about to go for a swim. "Hey, watch out for the fishes!" he called after her. "They might nibble on your ankles!"

Just as her hooves hit the outgoing waves, she changed direction, heading up horizontally up the beach but staying in the surf. "I'm not afraid of a little nibbling. I might just return the favor!" she called back, not bothering to check behind her. Melanie could have sworn by the sounds of his hooves behind her that he definitely wasn't trying his hardest and glanced over her shoulder. "Is someone "letting" me win?" she teased.
A bit of salt water being swept up from her hooves, catching her eye. "Gah!" What luck?! Just as she taunted him, she'd be forced to slow? But she still wasn't gonna make it easy. And with a wicked grin, she closed the affected eye and charged on.

"Letting you win? Never!" He increased his speed as he made the denial, crashing into the surf. "I just had a pebble in my hoof!" His amused grin didn't give the lie much credence, but he tried his best to narrow the gap now. His leonine tail dragged through the water as he discovered that it was actually somewhat difficult to run at high speeds through the waves.
He opened his mouth to shout a taunt at her only to find it full of saltwater when a particularly high wave caught him unexpectedly. Instead of a taunt, he gurgled incoherently. Things weren't exactly going as planned...

Sucking in the cool breeze through her nose, she stayed on the slightly dryer parts of the surf. Careful to avoid any water that might slow her down. A fine sheen of sweat gathering on her neck from the amount of effort she was putting in. Why was she trying so hard? Was it to impress him? She heard him shout out "Never!" and something about a "rock in his hoof". Over the roar of the waves it was a bit hard to make out everything, but she found herself grinning. Maybe slowing down, just a little bit, would allow for more friendly jesting.
With that in mind, Melanie took a deep breath and slowed her strides until he was just a couple hove beats behind her. "Almost there!!" She whispered breathlessly. She could just see it around the next bend. It would be the perfect place, and she had a feeling it was something they could both appreciate together. And maybe, just maybe, she'd let him catch her afterall.
Perhaps a little distraction before that would be entertaining.. Grinning mischievously, she flicked her tail in his direction, hoping it would catch him somewhere in the face.

Delacroix angled himself back onto slightly less soggy sand, now almost directly behind her. Faintly, he noticed the tugging sensations from his scars as he ran. His body had definitely seen better days and he had a feeling he might ache in the morning.
But it wasn't morning yet.
"Watch out, I've got-" He was cut off by the end of her long bicolored tail catching him in the face. He had been right about to catch her, but now he was laughing in surprised incredulity. She was tricky, that one!
"That wasn't very fair!" he called after her, giving himself a surge of speed, but staying out of tail reach this time.
