His children were sleeping. He watched them dreaming for a day, circling each sac with a smile and wondering what they would be like once they had grown. What would their names be? Who would they be like? It was answer he would have to wait a long time to answer. The Killing Moon said his soft goodbyes, knowing they would not be heard and went to give his final farewell to the family. It was selfish, he knew that. But all his life he had been devoted to his family and tribe. This was the first choice he had made solely for himself and he was ready to see it through. It wasn't as if his children could truly miss him, if they had never known him to begin with. Still, some part of him rebelled at the idea of leaving his offspring so early. What sort of father was he? The Killing Moon didn't bother answering his own question; he merely smiled at the gathered kin and said, "I’m leaving now." Maxx D KM picks a great time to go on epic journey, everyone says goodbye, maybe tears, idk. Jun D just realized title makes it sound like he's dying also, slow easy RP, no pressure to respond, I just wanted to get it started <3

The air was still after the phrase, and no one seemd to really have much to say. Since he had already announced his intentions to his family and extended 'family', the final goodbye seemed awkward and unreal. It was strange to imagine the shop without him, and most of his family had put off thinking about it. Most of them, spare for the embittered but wiser one, who pettily felt like the perfect son's facade had finally slipped. Inside he judged him harshly for leaving children - still in the sac! - alone, for he felt like he never would if he had any, despite all his shortcomings, arguably more than the ones Killing Moon had. And Left... So he broke the silence with a sullen " well, good riddance," and a slightly challenging eye.

His smile tightened, but he said nothing in response to his brother's words. The reaction was not unexpected and honestly, it was justified.

Left had promised himself he wouldn't cry. Killing Moon had told him everything, and he had promised himself then he wouldn't cry. What would crying do? He could see it in his beloved brother's eyes: this was something he had to do, and he loved him for that, the conviction, and the strength, to do whatever he had to. Crying would only hurt Killing Moon. He would be proud and he wouldn't cry.
So he got mad instead.
"YOU TAKE THAT BACK," he half-howled, half-shrieked, and launched himself at Best.

That was just about the last straw for Grey. Rolling her eyes most adroitly at her two failed sons, she strode over to the only successful one.
"Well," she said, "don't die."

It felt as though a claw had just wrapped around his heart and was squeezing the breath out of him. He should have left without this goodbye. It would have been easier. Though surely he deserved the pain that came with saying farewell. "I will endeavor not to," he assured his mother, finding relief in her no-nonsense manner.

"Mm," she shrugged, "fair enough."
And that was that. With a parting nod, she returned to her usual alcove and curled back up to sleep. It was bad enough having to be awake in the day, really. Too loud.

A dusty laugh, and in a blink, Beloved had taken her mother's place - half spitting image, half pitch.
"I must concur, dear brother," with a whimsical sort of smile, "by all means return changed - one way or the next, I'm sure you will - but do try to make sure you remain in one piece. Your sister will miss you...though," she finished, thoughtfully, as the raging battle in the background crescendoed to the sound of Come Running's stamping hooves, "not likely as much as some others will. But I will think upon you often." Ruriska Bloop! Two down, three to go. I think Weep is there, but she'll probably just wave him goodbye and leave the practical bye to Forlorn and the schmoop to Fell and Left. XD

" Would you please -" Come Running snapped sharply, yanking Best back by his hair and stomping on Left's tail to stop the fight. " Shame on both of you! Can't you behave for once?!" With a growl, she pushed them apart and aside, stomping her way to the only brother with a brain. " You take care," she said kindly, almost a command, " and don't make us worry. Come back and see us sometime. It will be horrible without you." Then the strong front broke a little, as she lowered her head momentarily, bit down and looked up. A tight-lipped nod, a forceful head nuzzle, and she stepped away.

The Killing Moon had steeled himself to the loss of his brother. He had not put as much thought into his sisters and in consequence their heartfelt goodbyes nearly tore his heart right out. But he merely smiled calmly and said, "I will be back."
