This thread is for Flashover's base of operations. The only ones welcome here are Flashover and those who emerge from the headphones he saves. On occasion a friend of theirs may also be welcome to visit, but please ask me before doing so!
It honestly didn't look like that much from the outside. It was merely a run down building in the forgotten outskirts of a large city. Far enough from town to not be bothered...and very far away from the city that was their home. No...there was no need to go back there yet. Not for these little ones, at least.
In a former life the building had been some sort of hotel, but these days Flashover used it as his base. There was plenty of room for growth. Which was good, since he was planning a rebellion.
The headphones had been kept on pillows, and carefully watched over. Some days Flashover wondered if anything would come of them, but...well all he really could do was wait.
Watch. Wait. ....and clean. Ugh, so much cleaning. When he wasn't checking on them he was hauling useless crap out of this building and disposing of it. Today was another day of that, dragging rotted wood through the main hall of the hotel and outside to the pile of garbage he had going.

Watched Pot Syndrome. Its a thing. Stuff never happens when you're there to see it, always waits until you've stepped away or started something else. The same seems true for this pup's beginning.
While Flashover is off dragging rotting wood out of the warehouse, one of the headphones he found changes. A small pup with a darkly crimson fur marked in places by inky blackness ringed in fiery yellow emerges. A stretch, a sniff, and eyes slowly start to crack open. The pup has a song in his heart (and ears), one that demands justice... vengeance. A heavy burden for one so young. And still.. before he can run, Renegade must learn to walk.
Tiny nails scrabble against the floor as he struggles to make his wobbly legs obey him, his furry little face set into a determined scowl of concentration. One paw, then another. Back end hops to catch up. Rinse and repeat. He stays doggedly to his task, determined to get this walking thing down. And he's likely still at it upon Flashover's return to the warehouse.
Asunder wasn't far behind Renegade in emerging from his headphones. Even before he opens his eyes, every vibration his ears pick up send some sort of color to his mind. It's quiet aside from the song in his headphones, so the closed eye visuals are faint, but for this pup it was still disorienting. Asunder was dizzy. His throat was also somewhat itchy, as if the smoke stained more than just his azure fur. A soft, squeaky cough followed by a mewling yip sent the edges of his vision into a faint blue. The lids of his eyes were heavy and he felt so tired and weak, but he grew determined to open up to the world around him. It was bright, much too bright for him to handle, so his eyes stayed shut for the time being. There were distant sounds, as if he could hear the soft noises coming from others of his kind. Renegade's attempt to walk produced an ever so slightly yellow creaking of the floor boards. The soft pillow beneath him was too cozy for him to leave, but any slight movement of his paw produced a strangely cyan sprite that danced across his vision. This was distracting enough that he started to scratch his paw across the pillow to see this cyan wisp. The harder he rubbed his paw the more vivid this wisp became. Soon it would be clear to anyone else in the room that one of the pups was almost clawing their pillow.

Fae emerged from her headphones in silence, though the music that gave her meaning started up right away and seemed to be what woke her up. Her fur was dark looking, even darker now because of the scorch marks, but as her eyes took in the world around her, no expression emerged on her face to show she was curious, scared or even happy that she was alive.
Her head lifted up slowly from her paws and slowly turned this way and that to take in her surroundings, a neutral expression on her face as she slowly stood on new legs, her small body wobbling and shaking a bit.
Asunder now had a few moments to breathe. The air in this old building wasn't the best, but it was a whole lot better than the inferno he had survived as a pair of headphones. He was still pawing at his pillow, but a claw caught a weakened spot and tore a gash three inches across. This made a sound that produced a harsh sprite of white and green that flickered across his closed eyes. Might be best to stop clawing the pillow now. The song reached the lyrics "of dying ember", the powerful vocals, which could be harsh for others, were calming to him. It beckoned him with the dark blue and sunset orange fading into each other in his visuals to open his eyes. Again, it was bright, but more bearable this time. He expected the light. Looking around, he saw two other audios for the time being - one was Renegade who was taking his first steps, and Fae who was taking in her first sights. He quietly glanced between the both of them.
Quoting all involved, only doing this once. I'm going to try and get into the habit of quoting those whose characters my characters directly interact with as well.

The sounds of movements from the others draws Renegade's notice, his head swinging up and around from the stare aimed at his paws. Blinking his eyes, trying to adjust to the light and sight, he stares at one then the other.
"Are we it? The... only ones?" his voice is raspy, harsh, like Tom Waits after a three day bender. A voice prematurely deepened and roughened by the smoke and heat of the fire. "We should find the Other. The one that brought us here."
Turning decisively, Renegade moves to do just that, tripping over his own paws and nearly tumbling to the floor. Moving on those wobbly, new legs, he sets out determinedly to find their 'benefactor'.
Outside there was quite a bit of noise as Flashover rerranged the pile of garbage outside. Ugh...it was hot outside. Or maybe he was just perpetually hot? Sometimes it was hard to tell. Really, he felt as though a constant fire burned throughout his whole body. It gnawed away at his emotions and filled him with a constant burning need for change.
Even if it was something as simple as throwing out crap.
Scarf flapping behind him, Flashover reentered the base and started to move towards where he had been working earlier. The soft sounds of movement caught his attention however. Had...someone found him already?
...Or had life really emerged from those scorched headphones he had found?
Flash changed course and headed towards the room he kept the headphones in. Sure enough a few had already emerged and started to explore their world around him.
"...I suppose by other, you mean myself. Welcome to the world, little ones." He eyed them from under his hood, voice low and quiet.

Asunder's vision distorted with all the new sounds. Renegade's voice hued purple at the edges of Asunder's view. The sound of trash and clutter being stuffed into bags and such produced distant sprites of yellow and red. The edges of his view turned faint blue as soon as he spoke his first words in a soft mutter, "Heavenly, resonant, deathless, ethereal, resounding descent..." these words made almost no sense to him, though it seemed he was just repeating the lyrics of his song. He coughed softly soon after. His voice was clear, relatively high pitched as he is a newborn, but it already had this onerous tone of melancholy within it. Then there were also sprites of brown, so faint that Asunder didn't even notice them. They were produced from the distant sounds of footsteps, that of Flashover walking in. He turned his attention to Flashover, whose low and quiet voice brought a comforting feel. No visuals, but his sight somehow made the song in his headphones louder. His greeting to Flashover was only, "Solar passage, far and wide, reaching out, fills the sky." - louder in voice, echoing the increased volume of his headphones.
An ash-tipped ear twitched on the couch as another kit woke up. The hissing scratch of her song reminded her of the sound of buildings in flame, and she pawed fitfully at the headphones as they began to tell her a story. As the music picked up, she lifted her head and blinked repeatedly at the room and its other occupants.
The tall one. She knew him, sort of. Vaguely. Innocent ignored the welcome, staring at the other kits, sizing them up. There was blue one close by who'd woken up before her, but hadn't gotten to his feet. He sat there spouting nonsense. Innocent wobbled onto her paws, testing out the limbs for the first time. They shook, but they'd do for this next bit. Slowly and deliberately, she walked over to the blue kit, and flopped across him with a woomph.
"Oops." she exclaimed. "Thought you were part of the couch."

Renegade looks up at the new voice, head cocking to one side, "You rescued us? Took us away? Watched over us?" The wariness in the pup's tone is obvious, not suspicion but caution. Looking back to Asunder, he shakes his head over the cadenced words, not understanding. The song in his headphones echoes inside, pushing him, driving him to seek answers.
Turning his head once more, Renegade fixes his eyes on Flashover, "Are we it? Did anyone else... make it?"
Fae took in the sight of the other pups, a couple looking more awake then her, and others still being formed from their songs. But there was no interest in her face for their presence, and she took a few tentative steps off the pillow and onto the floor.
It felt strange under her new paw, but soon she was on all fours, testing out her new muscles, barely giving a glance to the tall, adult Audio that just came in and addressed them.

Hrm...they weren't completely unscathed. It was clear the fire had marked their fur...and in the case of the blue one had almost wondered if it had damaged his ability to talk in full sentences.
....Ugh, no. Flashover quit being so judgemental. Not everything could be judged on the surface. They were just pups. He had to keep reminding himself. Just pups. They needed time, more time than normal pups would have needed most likely.
"I rescued you, yes. Brought you here to safety. As for...others who made it. Yes, there are others. They are not here however, just you few...and me."
And no, he really didn't want to think back to the people of that city. Fools, content to be slaves to the tower and it's occupants.
A thump announced the arrival of another pup, toppling over backwards off of the pillow that had until just now, held a pair of headphones. The green pup flailed for a moment, trying to right himself. It took a bit and a few grunts, but eventually he twisted himself to an upright position. That accomplished, he promptly yawned, jaw stretched wide enough to risk dislocation.
Existing was hard work. Now, to take inventory: paws and toes, wiggling and ready, check. Ears, upright and perky! Tail...? oh yeah, that was definitely a swishy tail. He swished it around a few more times for good measure- and then decided he was bored, and promptly burrowed under the pillow before him. From beneath this squishy fortress, he surveyed the room with wide eyes.

She moved around a bit, stretching her muscles, moving her tail about to keep her balance and just getting used to her new body. Once she was done, she plopped down on her butt, staring straight ahead, but she spoke one word, loud enough for Flashover to hear, "Food."
Asunder was under a trance, perhaps a hypnosis, brought on by the sight of Flashover and the song pounding in his headphones. The crash of the drums, the heavy riffs, it was enchanting. He knew this song as if he had heard it a million times, but it was his very first time hearing it. Though he has only been awake for about ten minutes or so, his mind is flooding with strange memories. Language is coming to him, first in the form of the song's lyrics. He wasn't really paying attention when he suddenly became mistaken for a sofa by the pup named Innocent. Fortunately she was as tiny as he was and merely startled him when she flopped across him. He let out a squeaky yip. Her voice, in exclamation, sounded a bit shrill and nearly blinded his vision. This did nothing more than to disorient him. He gently shoved her off with his front paws, then stood on all fours. He was a bit wobbly, a bit off balance, having a funeral doom metal song blasting in the ears can disrupt the inner-ear leading to further disorientation. So, to reduce the sensory overload he shut his eyes, the only thing he saw was blackness and the dim sprites of various sounds and voices in the room. The song in his headphones faded, never completely leaving, but he was starting to gain some control over its volume. So when he reopened his eyes, he spoke softly, "Asunder, is that my name? Asunder, it is indeed. Asunder. Asunder."
