Zircon's last encounter with a senshi had left her cautious. She took care with where she harvested at night, kept her calling crystal with her at all times, and ran at the first sight of trouble. It made keeping up with her energy quotas difficult, but the lieutenant was used to scavenging, and was crafty enough to keep to the shadows and make it work.

It was a dull experience, however, and after about a week of scrounging around Zircon began to get antsy. It settled over her slowly, as a tingling ache in her bones that made her spine crawl and her blood rise. It made her feel impulsive, like she needed to let off steam, and that was dangerous when she lived in a city full of magic-users that wanted to rip her throat out. For once, just once, she yearned to wander to the no-man's land that was the Destiny City Park, just to start trouble and see who she could find, but before she ever reached the steel-wrought gates she would be reminded of the blonde senshi in green and slip into the shadows, desperately trying not to hyperventilate.

The senshi had taken her sense of comfort and safety, and underneath all the panic and fear it made her burn in righteous anger. Someday, she would make them pay for their transgressions, but for now she was a lowly lieutenant, and she needed to stay alive. If she could grow, she could conquer.

The sun had just set over Destiny City's skyline when Zircon took to her form again, sticking to the rooftops where she had the most mobility. Senshi were fast, but she was faster, and she'd been running these routes for years. Silently, she began to dash towards the more urban part of downtown when all of a sudden she felt a tug at the outer edges of her senses. It would not have been of interest if she could have identified it and catalogued it away, but something about the signature was jarringly unfamiliar, and she stopped mid-step with a furrowed brow, trying to focus in on what she was feeling.

Zircon took a step towards the aura, and her shoulders began to tense. Clearly, it was a trap of some sort, set to lure in the Negaverse. And yet...this power lacked the oil-slick feeling of an Order-aligned soldier, Senshi or Knight. She took another step. It didn't feel like the Eclipse clones, either, which had felt like the heavy mantle of dusk. A third step, and then a fourth. What if some other neutral party had appeared? Apprehensively, Zircon continued towards the power source. What if they could be persuaded to see the truth? By now, the lieutenant was running, her curiosity far overpowering the nagging fear in the back of her head.

She found the source a short distance away, on a rooftop, and climbed her way to a defensive position on higher ground. She knew the area well if she needed to make an escape, which made her feel a little more comfortable about her playing at stealth and espionage. After all, if she could sense it, then chances were it could sense her, too. Carefully, she peered over the lip of an outcropping, looking down at what appeared to be a woman in strange clothes. She didn't look like any Senshi or Knight Zircon had ever seen, but then again, she still didn't feel like one. There was power in her nonetheless, and after a moment of careful observation she noticed the pair of cat ears crowning the woman's head.

Oh.

It seemed so simple, really, but something didn't quite feel right. Zircon had to get closer, had to work out this strange anomaly, but that meant sacrificing the safety of her ledge. Her face scrunched by the conundrum, she continued to lean over in silent observation, working out the best way to get close (but not too close).

Unfortunately for poor Zircon's perfectly logical and understandable endeavor to avoid getting too close to the anomaly, it had noticed her.

Feeling the tingling sensation of a lieutenant on her radar, the mauvian whirled around, taking proper care to do so in the most dramatic fashion possible so her purple overlay flourished around her in her spinning.

Oh good, someone new and not that deadly.

"Hello!" She greeted, throwing one bare arm up in the air, which was apparently loud and obnoxious even as just a gesture as the bangles on her wrist clattered against each other with the movement. She probably would've jingled her merry way right on over to the lieutenant, but she had found herself a higher perch and that made things a little inconvenient.

And that was annoying.

Instead she dropped both arms and folded them behind her back in an effort to restrain herself.

"What are you doing? I promise I don't bite. You should come over here and talk to me for a little bit!"

s**t.

Zircon supposed that she should have known better, that her presence would have been noticed, but nevertheless her eyes widened in surprise when she was hailed from her perch by the strange woman. Her first instinct made her pull herself away from the ledge and out of view, as if the lack of eye contact would put her back into some sort of stealth mode, but after a moment she shook her head, eyes narrowing at her own silly judgement. Power signatures weren't like wi-fi, they wouldn't be impaired by things like a mere physical obstruction.

Of course, she had the option to run, but curiosity still nagged her whenever her senses reached out to greet the strange energy pouring out from the cat-woman. She had already come so far on a whim: at this point, she simply had to know. Taking a moment to calm her nervous heartbeat, she pulled herself up to her feet and took another glance down. The cat-woman was still there, waiting expectantly. She took in a deep breath, then with practiced form jumped from the safety of her ledge to the building below. She kept her distance, and stayed near the balcony in case she needed to run, but it allowed her a closer look.

All in all, she wasn't sure what she was expecting to see. The outfit was certainly unique, but then again, none of the cats she'd seen had ever been uniform. "You're not one of ours, but...you're not with the senshi either, are you?" Her mouth scrunched in thought as she scrutinized the woman before her. "So where do you fit in?"

"Well," Zee rolled her shoulders and folded her arms behind her back at the statement. "The senshi as in the White Moon? No, not at all. Their stupid little moon princess is why I'm trapped here in the first place. I had senshi of my own; Parallels. However this universe and it's war has driven them to extinction."

She grabbed her overlay and did a mock little curtsey and while she was obviously being sarcastic, there was some bitterness there in her expression as well.

"Congratulations, you've found an endangered species. However there is never an easy answer to that. Senshi are complicated. Even the Negaverse keeps senshi, don't they?"

She made a strange little gesture over her chest, "The ones with the um... the holes? Right?"

She was animated and bouncing all over, but she never seemed to cross over an invisible boundary line. The lieutenant was keeping her distance. Anxious. She didn't want to spoil a good thing.

"Can I ask for your name?"

Something in Zircon's eyes got brighter as she took in this new and intriguing information (as if she wasn't already enamored with the whole 'stupid little moon princess' bit). Parallels? The name sounded vaguely familiar, if an old and well-dusted fragment of information at the back of the lieutenant's mind. They had been connected to the Blood Moon Court, and then became the Dead Mirror Court by some strange form of parallel-universe corruption. At the mention of Negaverse Senshi, Zircon's expression darkened, her small lips scrunching even tighter as if she'd taken a whiff of something rotten.

"Some of the higher-ups like to keep pets, but they aren't like the rest of us," she retorted. "They're strange, broken creatures, and they don't deserve the chaos in them."

Catching herself in the heat of her bitter anger, she straightened her posture, rubbing out the crinkles in her nose and collecting her composure. "But, I assume that if you've ever seen one, then you already knew that." In a gesture that might have been sincere, the lieutenant bowed her head towards the Guardian Cat, though her eyes never left the careful watch of their boundary.

"My name is Zircon. Intelligence Officer, Lieutenant of the Negaverse." There was something practiced to the careful lilt in her voice as she recited her full title, as if it was something she'd said over a hundred times, as if it was home to her.

"And you?"

"Yes, but broken creatures are usually the most interesting. Things that are whole and operate without flaw don't usually have much to offer in the way of information," The mauvian responded with a flippant laugh.

But internally mused on the interesting way in which the lieutenant viewed the senshi taken by the Negaverse. She had never heard a negative take on the fact they incorporated converted versions of their enemy into their ranks, even though the discomfort such a system could cause was obvious.

"Oh, yes, the holes. Those are interesting, even though one has never consented to letting me get close." Save for the one moment when she clung to Carnelian's head. And that was hardly consensual.

Normally she would've been hung up on the fact she was an intelligence officer and so was directly relevant to her interests. But her name. It made the cat ears instantly stand up and she looked at the blonde lieutenant with wide eyes and head tilted curiosity.

Until she finally spoke. "No, you can't be Zircon. I am Zirconia, and this tool," She unclipped the winged eye gem from her collar, "Is Zircon. Obviously you have been misnamed. The Negaverse is going to have to work on their codenames."

Zircon cocked her head back, wrinkling her brow at the strange affront as she crossed her arms. "I...assure you, my name is Zircon, and it's a perfectly fitting name for an officer of the Negaverse."

Why, in all her years of fighting, she'd been jeered at, threatened, and nearly killed, but no one had ever had the gall and try to tell her she wasn't who she was. Her name was her link to the Negaverse, and it thrummed in her bones like the chaos within her. To say it wasn't part of her was...well, it was sheer stupidity.

"We're all given mineral names, when we're drafted," she explained, perhaps a bit more defensive than usual. Were her feelings hurt? Of course not, that would be silly and childish, and Zircon was neither of those things. "General-King Charonite chose my name himself, he couldn't have been mistaken, especially not over some..." she paused, glancing at the bauble with a bit of a huff. "...accessory."

"If you're the outsider to this universe, then perhaps it's your necklace that's misnamed." Zircon gave herself a stoic nod. Boom. Infallible logic.

"Oh, no no no no no no," She babbled rapidly, holding up one finger. "No. No. See, your universe is the one with the infection and unnatural anomolies and my universe is a picture perfect example of how things should be. The Negaverse doesn't even exist in any other universes. So there has obviously been a mistake and even if there wasn't..."

She puffed up her chest. "Zircon is a vital symbol and he has been mine since I can remember and since I am obviously older than you, human, I had the name first. You will just have to go by something else."

She looked down at the gem on her neck and then to the lieutenant. "You can be Sally."

Sally? Zircon's face scrunched up like she had just tasted something entirely unpleasant. She wasn't sure if the dismissive name was more or less insulting than being called an infection or unnatural anomaly, but either way she was offended. Even the way the Mauvian spat human felt like an affront to her person.

But Zircon had not ventured up to the ledge to be combative, and however injured her pride was, she was determined to salvage something of this encounter. "If it matters to you that much, then fine, I'll find something else to call myself around you. Just..." her face twisted again in discomfort, "...not Sally. I'll think of something more appropriate."

Still obviously miffed about the affair, Not-the-necklace-Zircon tilted her head away, pinching the bridge of her nose in thought. "I'll...figure something out later, but I really should be making my rounds." It was a nice way to say 'hunting for energy', but for people outside of the Negaverse, she had to sugarcoat things. They simply wouldn't understand.
