"Do you want to help me out today?" Kasen asked, his deep brown eyes large and inviting. Tohru would never suspect his brother of mischief. The older Gaili was an absolute good in this world. So naturally, Tohru nodded enthusiastically. The chances of him being successful in whatever endeavor his brother assigned him were slim, of course, since the younger Dovaa was only capable of causing others pain and trouble. But if there was any possibility that he could be even the slightest bit of use to Kasen... Well, hopefully his failure wouldn't be too bad. "Good!" Kasen beamed, once he'd gotten his younger brother's approval. "Then I have a very important task for you."
Tohru tried to keep the anxiousness down as the older boy took out a pen and paper and began scribbling away. "This is like a treasure hunt, Tohru!" Kasen exclaimed as he wrote. "And at the end lies dinner. I'm counting on you to bring home something I can cook tonight, because, ah... Well, we don't really have anything to eat right now." He admitted sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. Once he was finished scribbling away, he handed the page to the little Kiandri.
Tohru blinked down at it, then back up at Kasen. It just looked like a bunch of shapes and squiggly lines... "It's a map!" The Gaili explained incredulously. "See? Look, here's our house..." He pointed to a box with a rectangle on the inside of it. It must be a door. "And here's the path to the town..." He squiggled his finger down a line. "And here's where I need you to go." He pointed the opposite way from the town. On the paper it just looked like a bunch of hashed up lines. The Kiandri tilted his head up with a questioning brow. "It's grass! Along this path there's this little grassy patch where you can find all sorts of things to eat. You just have to... pick something up." He told the youngster. "You can even take Tennor along." The tiny Fae dragon was curled along Tohru's horns, but when Kasen reached out to pat him, he snapped viciously at the Gaili's fingers, then rumbled out his annoyance. Kasen only rolled his eyes and handed the youngster a bag to carry his findings in.
And not long after, Tohru set off. He felt a swell of fear deep in his belly. He hated to leave the house even when accompanied by his brother, but he'd almost never ventured off alone... A rustling on his head reminded him that Tennor was nearby. The little dragon was small, but awfully mean. By far more capable than Tohru would be at fending off predators... He could only hope they didn't run into anything too terrifying... The little Kiandri reached up to give his small companion a pat to reassure himself as he headed off the trail he knew and into the Terra Expanse. Kasen hunted real monsters, even dragons out here! And he even went in with a hunting party... Sometimes he'd come back injured pretty badly... Kasen even had pretty strong control over his magic... Better than Tohru, anyway...
The boy shivered. He was getting nowhere like this. Just working himself into a tizzy. He hurried along until he spotted the beginnings of greenery in the distance. That must be it! Feeling renewed excitement, Tohru ran forward. Oh, green. When the cool grass touched the bottom of his bare feet, he practically swooned. He'd missed the grass... Missed it so much... He wanted to stay for a while. The sun still hung high overhead. There was plenty of time to find dinner while enjoying the greener- yellow?
Tohru tipped his head curiously. What... was that thing? A yellow plush walking around...? Oh! An Uruu, and it brought friends! Three Uruu! So, they lived here, too?! Sometimes, he'd see them in his garden back on the Celestial Plane, but he didn't know they lived anywhere else. Mom used to make the most delicious Uruu-
Tohru gasped aloud, and the little creatures swiveled to stare at him, puffing up as they recognized a potential predator. The Uruu... This was what Kasen wanted him to bring home, wasn't it? Kasen was a big boy that needed lots of protein... Plants and herbs weren't going to do it for him... But... That would mean Tohru needed to kill... A cold sweat broke out along his forehead. For his brother. For Kasen... He had to show that he had some of the Gaili's goodness too... With a battle cry, he charged forward. Instantly, the three Uruu curled up and rolled in all different directions. Tohru chose the closest one and kept after it until it bounced out of its ball and turned on him with tiny, angry black eyes.
Tohru froze. It kind of looked... like it might attack him...? But he'd never seen something as cute and puffy as an Uruu attack anyone. Until today. While the Dovaa hesitated, the small creature pounced. It's mouth latched around his arm, and the young Kiandri was instantly positive that it was trying to eat him, never mind that he didn't feel any type of pain. It must be because of the adrenaline rush or something. He shrieked and flung his arm about this way and that until the Uruu popped off of him. The youngster staggered away, his golden eyes bright and fearful.
Tohru fled.
