This is a RP between Thane and Cato, trying out a new sparring methods. They are in an open field where other soqs can happen by, view their training, and even volunteer to join in!
This is an experimental process that involves stats AND luck so I'll update this post with the rules/guidelines as I figure it out. xD

(Bracket = The range of your random number)
Start with: 0-50
Luck makes your breadth of your bracket smaller, but keeping the high end the same, so you're likely to get a "luckier" roll; basically just increasing your lowest possible roll. (15% = 15 higher on your minimum, 24% = 24 higher on your minimum, 38% = 38 higher on your minimum, etc.)
Strength raises your bracket (24% = 24 extra)
Speed raises your bracket (same as above)
Intelligence raises your bracket (same as above)
Stamina raises your bracket in 10s every round until it is used up (45% stamina = 4 rounds of 10 extra on the bracket, always rounding down so even 49% is still only 4 rounds of 10 extra points on your bracket) But they don't stack, so you can add 10 to the previously used 10. Like below, I don't make his next bracket 31-106, it stays 31-96, except when his stamina is used, it become 86 on his third roll.
Courage... is more complicated. At the end of the battle, you get to roll a dice for courage. Its like bonus points to see if it helped you any during the battle.
Cato grinned across from Thane about a 10 foot distance. They both remembered their sparring from what seemed like a hundred years ago, though it couldn't have been more than a hand full of moon cycles. Their breath came out in puffs of white steam, their muscles cold, and their noses burning. It wouldn't take long to warm up he assured himself, tensing them, ready to spring or dodge if Thane came at him first. Except he knew Thane, and knew himself. Thane was never the first one to strike, always the perfect picture of patience. Cato, on the other hand, was much the opposite. Impatience was his signature trait on the battle field. "Ready?" He called, his wings unfurling in a show of bragging. Ready or not, he thought, as he charge, horns down, aiming straight for his best friend's chest.
... I'm not sure what to make the goal of the victor; a number of points, or a number of rolls. xD I'm thinking its discretion, so I'll say for now, first 300 points or 10 rolls; which ever comes first is the victor here. Thane's roll is next!

(Using the process above)
Thane grinned, loving the nostaligia he felt for this man; damn near his brother. They had bonded like no other on the field, and their training days came rushing back. He hadn't changed, of course. Cato came rumbling into the attack like he always had. Except, Thane had forgotten how quick he was sometimes. He dodged a little too late, due to cockiness, and took a small brunt of the blow to his shoulder. Wincing, he recovered quickly. He came back around by pulling up on his hind legs, aiming to come down on Cato's side, horn at the ready to block his ram-head if he tried to strike him again.
RNG = 54 (low) - 156 (high) sweatdrop So I forgot to add 50 to Cato's high, but that's a good thing I guess! ;w; I'll make that the standard minimum if your high happens to be less than 50 (for those with low stats, yah? yah. xD ) Woo!

Cato saw what he was doing just before Thane came down; he was too slow to get out of they way completely and managed to just get a few scrapes that were more paper cuts than anything. His good friend was getting rusty, he saw. "Not what you used to be, huh, friend?" He mocked, rearing his back legs, aiming to hit Thane squarely in ribs.
It was the sound of two bodies clashing together that drew B'Elanna out from the area that she had recently cleared out of. Her breath misted in the cool air as she followed the sounds. Her curiosity was piqued and at this moment in time the mare found that her hooves pulling her in the direction of the sounds. Was this a foolish decision on her part? Would she learn anything from this encounter? Ears pricked forward in interest as she spotted the open field ahead and caught sight of the two combatants in the middle.
B'Elanna cringed as both stallions came together in a frightening display of power. Was this battle for real? The mare's gaze followed each movement as it unfolded; worry plainly written in her expression.

Damn! Thane grunted, trying to dodge out of the way again but failing to completely avoid the blow. His vaguely took in that they had a spectator, but had assessed it wasn't threat and honed back in on Cato. Looking for a weak point, he aimed to jab his horn at his back leg, weakening him. Of course neither of them would purposely permanently injure the other; but a scrape from his horn would take a week or so to repair, and if too bad, he of course would use his small healing ability to help it along.

Cato grunted, feeling a cut on his leg from the stallions horn, enough to well blood and run. He didn't feel the pain for long though, pulling back to catch his breath; his bod running low faster and faster. He noticed the mare that had walked in, her expression worried. "Don't fret, miss. This is just a friendly fight." He emphasized friendly, eyeing Thane with intent and mischievousness, a wicked grin on his face. Cato then feigned left, but gunned to his right, looking to headbutt Thane right in the face with his ram horns.
B'Elanna noticed the red fluid dripping down one of the stallion's legs. That was most definitely blood. Her gaze narrowed on the fighters before she heard the one bleeding emphasize that it was just a friendly fight. At least that was one thing less that B'Elanna had to worry about. The mare nodded in brief understanding before she moved to a spot that looked to be a safer vantage point.
Her keen gaze locked on the action before her as the battle continued. The mare had to wonder in the back of her mind if either stallion had seen whom it was she was searching for. It seemed though as if she would have to wait until the battle was finished to ask.
Cato had left the cave early this morning, leaving her side cold in the darkness which was definitely not how she'd planned to spend her morning. Bernadette figured he had gone to find some breakfast, of course trying to assume the best of her big brute, and had picked herself up out of sleep to go help him. And make him give her her morning snuggles.
Oh but was she wrong. He was at it again. And with his nice friend she had met the other day! And a witness! She fluttered her wings around with fret and practically danced back and forth with worry as she neared the fight. "Cato! Why you.. you stop that, right now! You're going to hurt him! And Thane if you hurt my boy, you'll be in quite a load of trouble yourself!" Her cries were most certainly to fall on deaf ears. Stupid boys. Instead she turned to try and calm the poor witness of these acts. "I am so sorry. They.. I.. I don't know what to do with them. Please, if they disturbed I apologize. They've hit their heads way too many times to be thinking straight." Her wings were still twitching a bit agitated as they continued to fight.

Thane felt the blow hit his shoulder instead, but not with the full force he might have gotten if it was direct hit. There was sure to be soreness tomorrow, he knew. Thane decided it was time to test out a different terrain. Running to the left of Cato, Thane spread his wings, and taking flight, flying high enough juuuust to turn right back around and come swooping towards Cato, horn ready to jab him wherever it might find a spot.
B'Elanna had just turned around when she caught sight of another mare. From the exclamations that she was making it seemed as if she knew the two stallions battling it out behind them. Her gaze flickered from one to the other before she sighed in mild relief. "I guess I am a little relieved to know that this battle isn't something serious."
As B'Elanna turned her head to the side she gave a brief shake of her mane. "They didn't disturb me but their battle is very loud. I guess it caught my attention."
B'Elanna gazed at the mare before realizing that she'd not introduced herself to this stranger. She took in the other mare's twitching wings before shivering a little. "I'm sure they'll be alright?"

Cato wasn't expecting the full force of Thane's body to come at him like it did. Hooves and horn both connected him his side, sending his sprawling. He was hurt, he could feel it, and knew he was about to lose. He wasn't going to give up with out his last fight though. His wings, somehow undamaged were able to spread. Thane still remained in the air, and Cato took to the sky as well. There, he used the power of both his wings to come surging up at Thane from the bottom, aiming to ram the soft underside of his belly at just the angle that should avoid his hooves.

Cato was a big man and hard to miss. It was evident when he came soring up at him what he was aiming to do; he tried to dodge but Cato quickly corrected his angle and still caught his rump and hip. Wincing, his back leg going to be weak from then on out; he circled around. Thane could see Cato was weaker and weaker, and he too started feeling the wear of sparring. It was about to come to an end, he could see it. "It's over friend!" He bellowed, raising himself a ways above Cato just to come crashing down on him, his horn aimed to strike him again.

Cato grunted, feeling the impact knock him downward. He didn't feel the pain yet, but knew when he hit the ground it was over. "I yield!" He grunted, unhappily. He didn't like loosing. Standing from the ground, next to Thane, he stretched his wings for damages. Soreness ached them, but no real harm down. It took a second, but after seeing Thane's grinning face, he couldn't help but bust out in laughter. "Good job, old friend; good job indeed!" He clapped him on the shoulder with the side of his horns, congratulatory.
His grin slipped, realizing that he had an angry wife watching him all this while. Gulping he began limping his way towards Bernadette, and an unfamiliar mare, trying to hold a friendly smile all the way.
Quote:
Now that Thane broke 300, Cato gets to roll for his "Courage" bonus. (Only the soq with the lowest total stats gets to roll "courage" points; in the case that there is a tie in total stats, both get to roll.) Sense even if Cato got all of his courage bonus, it wouldn't make a difference, I declare Thane the victor. 8D
"Oh they are never alright! They come out happy as clams and yet they're bleeding all over the place!" At least this mare was listening to her, Cato never listened to her when it came to this stuff. To him she was just being a worrisome mare. She turned only to see the last part of the fight and she squeaked and started fretting all over again seeing Cato beaten down.
Bernadette fled out to him and starting worrying over all his scrapes and cuts and the fact that he was limping. All of it. There was no part of him unobserved for wounds. And then she turned and swatted Thane's head with her wing. "Look what you did, you.. you.." she made some sort of whining groan and went back to her fretting. "I can fix it.. I can fix it, right?" She looked up at Cato, eyes shimmering with unshed tears.
(WATCH OUT, dramatic overprotective mare on the loose)
