The CIC, located between Sickbay and the Bridge, is responsible for taking in tactical data from other ships and relaying them to Tactical. CIC is also the battlestation belonging to Damage Control. Damage Control assigns repairs, both computer and manual.

~~~Gavin Napier~~~
Gavin had left his quarters and stepped on to an elevator, padd in one hand and looking up the Rec Lounge, when he paused for a moment as he noticed what else it was on, a piece showing the CIC on deck 1. Supposedly it wasn't very active except during simulations or combat, right? And last he'd checked they weren't being shot at, and they'd be bussling if there was a simulation so he could slip out or into a corner to keep out of the way.
"Deck one."
And off it went, bringing him up to deck one and opening up the doors for him to step out, into the small grouping of uniformed people moving around the halls on various errands and assignments and such, his dusted coat and clothing sticking out like a sore thumb as he went on his way towards the CIC, given a berth by those in the halls. Didn't want to associate, afraid of getting their new just started on the shift uniforms dirty, whatever it was, he had a fairly clear area around him as he went to the CIC, tapping the button or whatever was needed to open the door inside.
A young Ensign, the Tertiary Tactical Officer, or TTO, saw the door open and Gavin step in. He confronted him. "This is a restricted area. I'll have to ask you to leave." She was smaller than Gavin, and tried to look imposing, but he seemed a little out of his league in the CIC.
Well, they didn't look very bussling so he appeared to have not walked in on something major happening. However, he stepped inside after noting that and almost immediately found someone coming at him. From what he'd pried off of these peoples insignia on their uniforms and the usual rule on earth of more brass meaning higher rank, this girl was pretty low on the totem pole.
"Quick response. But unless people aren't allowed here outside their duty shifts, I'd prefer to stay. I need to learn this place some time."
Even as he was speaking he drew the padd out from under an arm, the screen flaring up as he went through the quick motions to grab the easily accessible file containing his new promotion. Much as he still didn't like any part of the idea of basically 'pulling rank' on this girl, he needed to get familiar with this place sometime, and at least getting a glance around would be a lot better then walking in and being expected to take charge without even knowing how the room was layed out, much less what did what.
Imm0rtal Ryuu You didn't quote me...And that was supposed to say he, but oh well. Girl now. XD The Ensign glanced at the padd and relief crossed her face. "Oh, thank the Guardians. I have no real idea exactly how to run a shift. I can do my job, but I'm brand new. Just out of the Academy." She was in the immaculate white uniform of the UEFN and her nameplate said Martin. "I'm the Tito. Tertiary Tactical Officer, but people refer to me as the Tito. You're the Tactical officer. The Officer of Beta Shift is the ATO. Assisting Tactical Officer." She went over to the massive display that filled the center of the room and gestured for him to follow. "Our job is simple. We analyze sensor data and relay it to the bridge. If the Captains orders us to fire, we prioritize targets and send them to the gunners at the turrets. The Tactical Officer, whoever it is at the time, is the one responsible for firing the main guns at the captain's orders. So you'll always have an open comm link to the captain, in case of emergency." She tapped a few buttons, a holo display of the Unity appearing. "Are you aware of the weapons we have?"
((ahaha sweatdrop Oops, I knew I forgot something. Luckily that was the post just before I went to sleep so at the least it shouldn't have slowed us down. Fixed it though, posts have quotes again now!))
Well, that was nice. She hadn't had any issue with that nor caused any sort of scene. Instead it turned out she was the one running this shift. Her short explanation of the arrangement between the three shift officers helped with what he'd previously heard from the captain, and explained why if something happened he'd be called up immediately, and his listing by the captain as a new Senior Officer. He followed Martin over to the massive center display, looking at what was already there although unfortunately there wasn't much at all that he could really understand, everything else was jumbles of acronymized letters and numbers, with no meaning he could immediately tell. This was going to be interesting...
"I do not know what the ship is armed with, only that most of the weapons are not currently functioning."
He was already eyeing the holographic display of the Unity, either looking the ship over if this display didn't have any readouts of the damage, or looking at the various colors and copious amounts of data if it was displaying damages and system conditions.
The display changed from the Unity to a cutaway of the front of the tuning fork vessel. "The display is voice activated right now, because there's nothing going on. In combat or emergencies, it commands have to be entered in. Reduces confusion." The cutaway showed six cannons, three on the top, three on the bottom. "Mark V Assault cannons. Fire plasma bolts at the Captain's command. They fire in volleys, top three, then bottom three, though sometimes she might ask for certain cannons to fire." Each cannon was labeled "One" through "Six." "We have Big Bertha, the Heavy Gauss Cannon, but no rounds for it."
Gavin nodded in response to the statement of the display being voice activated, listening to the included note about command being switched to manual entry in an emergency or combat. Made sense, of course. The display shifting and displaying the plasma-based cannons on the front, pulling up a separate image of a single cannon and displaying a number of things near it as it was brought up and talked about, and going back in once the Guass Cannon was brought up, although nothing came out for that.
"I assume that since those are plasma cannons, they can fire as long as the ship has the power to fire them? And the Gauss Cannon is able to fire, it just has no ammunition?"
He mentally filed away the bit about the Gauss cannon having no rounds. That could be a useful tidbit to remember later. After all, he never knew what was going to come up. He didn't even know what it fired. He'd have to find out.
Imm0rtal Ryuu If you look at the CGI model of the Unity, the weapon in the middle of the prongs is the HGC The Ensign held her hand up and tipped it side to side. "Kid of. The fusion plant that powers the ship right now is a star held in containment. Manmade, of course. Plasma is pulled from it to fire rounds off. Pull to much and we risk collapsing it. The turrets, which are fired manually by each gunnery crew, have stores of plasma already. When it runs low, it pulls a bulk supply from the star to refill. But the gauss rounds are ferromagnetic slugs, made of a super-dense, highly conductive alloy. I have no idea exactly what, as the manufacturing of these rounds is still classified. In theory, the round will seek out a ship's hull when it gets close enough. So the shot doesn't have to hit it, just come close. The round holds an electric charge, so it is attracted to ships."
~~~Gavin Napier~~~
((I basically figured since the computer was voice controlled and the weapons were being described the plasma cannons probobly popped out for a moment for emphasis, but the Gauss Cannon didn't because it wasn't as much queried about, thats all XD I figured that was where it was))
Gavin glanced at the Ensign when she held her hand up to show he was only partly correct. A star held in containment, but it was manmade of course. Of course, because that was so clearly something they could easily do... Everything he learned just made it more and more clear the sheer difference between what he'd left and what he'd walked in too. The ensign's description of the type of round that Gauss Cannon fired was interesting, but it didn't make it sound very likely they'd exactly be stumbling on to more anytime soon, although they might still be able to improvise lesser rounds based off what this ship had.
"I don't know too much about stars but I assume it regenerates that plasma over time?"
He didn't even bring up the ammunition problem for the cannon. After all, it wasn't like everyone here on all three shifts didn't probably already know it in detail. He'd have to see what this ship's capabilities were before he started eyeing possibilities to improvise ammunition out of local materials, if his ideas would even still work.

The ensign nodded. "Yes sir. It acts just like a real star. It still has about 5,000,000 years of life left in it. Unless we use it like a bomb."

Acts just like a real star, huh? That explained the commentary about needing to be able to treat radiation... He glanced at the watch on his wrist again, but he still had several hours before his next dosage.
"I'd rather not use our power core like a bomb. It would get really cold in here."
He smiled a bit at his own little joke. Besides, if they did where would they get a replacement? Even looking at it from here there would be a lot of problems if they lost it.
"So you've shown me these weapons, but I heard only the starboard turrets are operational. I presume that means there are more then just those on-board the ship?"

The Ensign just stared. "Cold and dead, sir. That fusion plant powers every system on the ship. Life support, gravity, the a whole nine yards." At the mention of turrets, the display showed the hull, bristling with turrets. "No, they're attached, sir. Starboard turrets are onthe starboard side of the ship. The right side."

And then he sighed. Alright, fine, jokes apparently weren't appreciated, he'd have to remember that.
"My mistake."
He watched the display switch to the hull, highlighting it's turrets and rotating to the right side of the ship as 'starboard' was used, even as the Ensign pointed out which side that represented. He was going to have to make sure to remember things like that, they would be important from now on. Odd, all the military terminology floating around, and most of it switched to Naval terms, versus the Air Force he'd grown up hearing. Well, he'd get used to it.
"So those are all that are operating. Well."
Between that and all the black and red patches showing, the ship was beat all to s**t, just like the Captain had said it was. Looks like they were going to have a lot of work ahead of them, since he was pretty sure almost the entire crew had some sort of duties involving assisting in repairing damage of this scale.

Imm0rtal Ryuu She didn;t get it was a joke. The Ensign nodded. "Engineering is working on getting them back online, as they pull less power than the main guns. i think they're trying to get the shields back up. And hyperdrive." She looked over at him again. "Do you know our defensive capabilities?"
