Cyrus led the way through the outer buildings of the village tucked in tight between two massive peaks. The buildings were constructed of wood and stone and lifted up from the ground. They were quaint he decided, and small. He felt like he could break one if he tried to set foot inside it. There were other doors, he noticed. These were tucked into the walls of the peaks themselves and were ornately decorated.

As they walked further into the village, Cyrus felt the back of his neck tingle. Things did not feel right. The village was well developed and still clear of the ravages of time, but there was no movement. Pausing and gesturing for the others to do the same, he closed his eyes and concentrated. It was much harder to push his powers out to search for living beings after holding up the mountain than it had been at the abandoned city they had stumbled across. But that didn't stop him from doing it.

"They all seem to be that way," he said quietly to Isambard as he opened his eyes and pointed towards a large cluster of buildings, one of them taller than the rest.

Isambard could feel it too, the stillness was uncomfortable, not calm like it should be up here in the mountains, it was unnatural. The snow was fresh, no sign of life. He breathed in deeply and let Cyrus send feelers out to the living. When he declared that there were indeed people who survived hegave a nod and followed the large man. "Perhaps you shouldn't be the first person they see." He said to the big man. They're small people, you might scare them."

Talia followed after Cyrus.
"Perhaps I should go first." She offered. She would be able to help them and well, she had been trained on such situations. "It's probably a meeting hall or religious building."

Cyrus looked down at Isambard at his suggestion. He did have a point. The girl they had found was quite small. She was even shorter than Elora. Turning his eyes to the doctor, he nodded in agreement.
"You should go first."

Azriel looked between the three of them, then gave Talia a bit of a smile.
"Would you like for me to come with you?" he asked her.

Talia looked back at Azriel and nodded.
"If you like." She replied and started off towards the building.

Isambard watched as she approached the building cautiously, she seemed to know what she was doing but that didn't mean that they shouldn't be on the look out for trouble. He followed a few paces behind, pausing as they came up to what did look exactly like a meeting hall.

Talia went up to the doors of the hall and knocked.
"Hello." She called out. "Hello, I have help. Maia sent us."

Azriel smiled as she consented and he followed after her. She had proven that she could handle herself just fine, but he could not justify sending her into the unknown alone. He would have a hard time forgiving himself if something happened to her. As she knocked, he glanced the building over, noting the smoke coming from the chimney in the center of the roof. There was a long delay but then there was a sound from inside. Az frowned when he realized it sounded like a bit of a scuffle. A moment later, the door opened and a pair of eyes peeked out at them.

"You have seen Maia?" the female voice asked.

Talia smiled at the face that poked out from the door and nodded.
"Yes, she came to our town looking for help. She is safe and being looked after by our friend there. She said you need medical help and that the path was blocked. We've travelled here, myself and my companions to help you."

Freja eyed the woman for a long moment, then turned her eyes to the man behind her. Without a word, she pulled back and shut the door with a solid thud.

Az blinked as the door was closed on them and he looked to Talia. Before he could say anything, the sound of voices quietly arguing on the other side reached his ears. A moment later, there was the sound of a chain sliding and the door opened once more. This time the woman stepped out of the hall and looked up at them. She older than she had first appeared and looked worn. She was overly thin, her pale hair hung limply from its elaborate braids, and her clothes looked rumpled. Despite all of this, her eyes shone with hard scrutiny and she held herself with pride. He suspected this was a woman you did not mess with.

Freja felt the sting of the cold air to her bones, but she held herself proudly as she looked to the people that had appeared. All this time she had been convinced that her precious granddaughter had been killed by the ruthless mountain. But here these people stood with news that she was safe.
"Our people are very sick," she warned.

Talia nodded.
"I am a doctor." She replied, placing her hand on her heart. "Let me take a look, I may be able to help you. I have brought some medical supplies with me."

Freja studied the woman for a moment, then she stepped aside to let her in.
"Please help them," she said, gesturing for her to enter.

Before they could step forward, a large hand appeared and yanked Freja back into the building. A stocky man stepped forward to block the door with an ornate axe in his hands.
"You are not welcome here," he growled and glared at them.

Talia raised an eyebrow as a man with an axe appeared and breathed in deeply.
"Fine, then you will die." She replied simply. "Your daughter was on deaths door, I can see you are ill, hiding in here and waiting for death. If I am not welcome I will go back where I came from and let death come for you."

"We are not ill," the man growled and puffed up his chest as if to prove that he was not sickly. "You weave lies. You are here for what we have," he continued, his eyes darting between the woman and the others beyond her.

Az lifted his brow as he watched the man. There was something not right about him. Suddenly a loud clang rang out and a rather surprised expression flitted across the man's face before he crumpled to the floor in a heap, the axe falling from his hands and sliding across the floor.

Freja stood over her son's body with a heavy iron skillet in her hands. Breathing deeply to calm the fires of anger within her, she lifted her ice blue eyes to their saviours and shook her head.
"My son is ill in the head," she explained quietly. "We need your help," she said softly. Turning, she dropped the pan off to the side, then stooped down to try to shift her son's bulk from the doorway.

"Allow me," Az smiled a little and stepped up to hop over the man.

Isambard had been about to send Cyrus over there to give them a hand when the large man dropped his axe and fell to the floor with a thud. Well, he thought. That was easy. he stepped forward with Cyrus, they would have to play nice for a while, help the people where they could and then find out exactly what it was that they had to offer.

Talia smiled at the woman and stepped past the man to look at the others in the hall.
"I think it might be poisoning of some kind." She said, glancing back to Azriel, it made sense, Maia did not have a virus of any kind and she had gotten well quite quickly with good food inside her.
"Where do you get your food and water from?" She asked the woman in charge.

Freja watched the man drag her son out of the way with a bit of effort. Breathing in deeply as she felt rather winded, she turned her eyes to the woman.
"We hunt and eat roots from the forests. Our water comes from a spring within the mountain," she replied, her eyes slipping to the other men that approached. Her eyes opened slightly wider at the appearance of the massive man. She had never seen anyone so huge. The other drew her attention second and she studied him for a long moment. There was something different about him.

Talia followed her gaze back to the djinn and god.
"Do not worry about them, they are friends." She breathed deeply at her words and thought for a moment.
"No one is to drink any water from the spring. We will get snow and boil it up. Can you get me a cup of this spring water please?" She glance back to Cyrus. "Cyrus, would you be able to tell if it was contaminated?"

Freja kept her eyes on the smaller of the two men and nodded distractedly to the woman.
"I will get some water," she said softly. Tearing her eyes away from them, she turned and went into the large hall.

Cyrus lifted his brow at Talia's question and he folded his large arms in front of him.
"Sometimes I am able. It depends on what the poison is," he replied with a small shrug of his large shoulder.
