Schörl had turned in her quota for the week, but instead of heading off to 'life, the universe, and everything', she loitered and leaned in the chamber to see what others came to do the same. It was better policy to get to know more of her organization, one that started with at least a sight familiarity. She hadn't expected to see the pretty thing who's wing had gotten smashed, but there was the lieutenant from a while ago coming in. It was a pleasant windfall, actually- one that would let her check up on that broken wing. So the captain approached the other woman casually, callign from her side, "Ready to fly again? I'm glad to see you're some time since back in action, lieutenant. " Fallen_kitsune_thief Sorry for the wait on the start~

Zircon was in a mixed sort of mood. On one hand, her quotas were up, her research was good, and the strange ache in her wrist was finally fading away. Zinkenite himself had made mention of her progress the last time they'd spoken, and after years of struggling she felt like she was finally settling in to her niche in the Negaverse.
And yet, all it took was one twinge in her arm, or for a scarf to run too snugly against her neck. All at once, everything rushed back. The racing heart. The panicked gasps. The driving need to claw it away, get it off, run, run, run--
Needless to say, the lieutenant looked a little more wary, a little more tired than usual as she turned in her quota. Her eyes perked up at the sound of a familiar voice in the fog, and with a single motion her posture straightened and her shoulders went back, a messy fledgling trying to show off her plumage.
"C-captain," she sputtered, trying to keep her expression cool as her heart started to race again. "I--ah--yes, I'm back on patrol again." She brandished her once-wounded arm, giving it a quick rotation. "All in all, nothing a little energy couldn't fix."
She had to divert the subject, and soon, or she felt like her pulse was going to burst from her skull. "So...how have you been?" The lieutenant almost immediately regretted the words as soon as they came out of her mouth. No, it was inappropriate to be so informal with an officer of rank, much less one who had acted as her savior. "I mean, your business is private, of course, but I was more inquiring on your general health state of things...not that your health isn't private, either...um..."
Real smooth, Lieutenant.

"The friends of this order are welcome to all my secrets...only...I have nothing to hide, " Schörl drawled the words. "Less to have to juggle that way. " "No new bandages either. Very good. We all end up with those occasional bumps where we try to grasp with small claw what we need to grow into talons to hold. I know the feeling, luv. I keep hunting Tigers, myself, but the little minx is still to much for my blood. " "You must be getting near to promotion, if you're kept up with your studies? What sort of senshi and knights have you been playing with of late?" The captain playfully reach out and gave Zircon's bicep a squeeze. Nervous little bird. Don't worry, I won't bite you, yet. You look more in need of a good grooming- straighten all those tired feathers out... " I should lay claim to the arm I saved and make sure it stays strong."

"Promotion?"
There was a glimmer to Zircon's eyes, but it was quickly snuffed out when she looked away, suppressing something between a glower and a pout. "I try not to think about it too much," she recited, almost like a canned response. "I've been at my station because this is where our leadership thinks I need to be, and my ability to advance is solely at their discretion." Internally, Zircon seethed. She had been faithfully serving the Negaverse for years, and had little to show for it other than her 'Three Years of Service' medal, which sat neatly on the left side of her chest. "I've been chasing down the odd Knight errant or so, but nothing to garner me any sort of notice."
Alas, her grievances were for another time, and the scowering lieutenant tensed up again when the Captain reached for her arm, her expression mildly nervous. "...It is yours to claim, Captain, if you ever need it. I am, as I said, at your disposal." Something in Zircon's head made her wary of offering her loyalties so freely, but at her core she knew it was the right thing to do. Her life was in tithe to Schörl, and Zircon would be nothing if she did not repay her debts.

"You will join higher rank- you've got a head on your shoulders and determination. That's more than the kids we've both been watching over." Schörl let her grip on the Lieutenant's arm lax and shifted it to slide her arm around the other woman's shoulders if it was allowed. "If it is mine to claim, then I would see it refreshed!" "I have converted some of my loft to a middle eastern relaxation room- hookah, plush floor and cushions, samovars. You are welcome there, any time, in or out of uniform. Day or night. There are strings attached though- or at least I hope so. I want to build more community, which means time spent getting to know people off the battlefield. " "If we know how each other flies, we can coordinate better with little notice. And we'll be more confident to take risks with each other." "What do you say, little bird? "

Zircon bristled as Schörl moved in closer, but otherwise made no move to stop the Captain. Her lips curled upwards at the thought of someday joining a higher rank, but she was quick to don her professional face again, nodding pensively at the other woman's suggestion. Her ideas were sound, and her plans were certainly something that Zircon would like to see implicated, but something about showing her savior her weak civilian skin settled like a weight deep in the pit of her gut.
She couldn't even be strong as an officer of the Negaverse--how could she expect to show anything but weakness as a mere science teacher?
But she had to be strong, even as a civilian, and eradicate any weakness of character there before she could build upon herself as an agent of chaos. With a slow nod, she looked up at the Captain, a determined look on her face. "I think getting to know each other better would be of mutual benefit, for sure." She paused, and then added, "While it's not as fancy, my apartment is comfortable, and I make acceptable lasagna."
She did her best to smile, to loosen the tension in her shoulders, but something still held her back. As long as they were in such a military setting, she would only see her superior officer before her. Perhaps the civilian play-date would be for the best after all, she mused to herself.
"I don't make many plans, so my schedule is free when yours is."

Feeling the muscles of the neck and shoulders harden under her arm was all the proof she needed that there was already dangerous levels of animosity, unfamiliarity and nonconstructive competition rampant in the ranks. It was all well and good to strive for bettering oneself and to use compatriots as a testing ground, but being unable to relax at all in proximity was counterproductive. "Lasagna and your place first then, so that you don't feel like you're completely out of element in a lion's den, " the captain showed only ease with the situation and proximity. "I can bring a wine and tiramisu, for a traditional Italian sort ? Dinner then a practice, perhaps? Just flight school- we can choose free running courses for each other, practice path-finding and boosting each other or catching each other to pull up to better vantages than one alone can make it to. Dexterity and speed, essentially. " "What is your weapon, by the way? I don't' recall one from the last time I saw you."

Something about the Captain's steady presence seemed to put Zircon at ease, and looking up at her she slowly began to relax her shoulders. "That...sounds pretty good, actually." Sure, she had been to generic large group meetings as a civilian, but the thought of someone coming to her place to get to know her was actually a bit comforting. At least while in her own roost she could be strong. "I've been combat training with a few of the other Captain's on request, but actual coursework could be rather helpful for tandem missions."
Her face scrunched up when mention of her weapon arrived, and holding up one hand, she pulled a paper airplane from Nothing and set it up for display in one nestled palm. "Lieutenants weren't very well armed back when I was recruited," she noted sourly. "I tend not to use it at all, except as a diversionary tactic."

"Battle sparring is always helpful, without a doubt, but not all battles are just brute-force-toe-to-toe. Maneuverability and working in tandem practice it is, then. " At the explanations of 'back when', the captain chortled. "I don't think anything has changed. I was stuck with a crop that looked like it had belonged to a Dom back when the bearing rein was fashionable on ladies horse carts. " "It could give a good welt, but that was about it. You've done alright if you've made this little trinket work for you once or twice even just as a diversion. " Schörl leaned and blew softly across the Lieutenant's palm, fluttering the little paper wings. "What sort of method do you use, generally? A specific martial art, or just whatever comes to hand?"

For once, Zircon did not tense up when the Captain leaned forward, instead watching with mild curiosity as her weapon's tiny paper wings flapped in the wind. "For being such a military powerhouse, the Negaverse does tend to leave its new recruits ill-equipped to handle themselves," she added, taking the chance to chuckle softly despite herself. She supposed that some day she would look back on her 'little trinket' and laugh, which was enough to soften the worry lines straining her face.
"No particular martial art," she responded, looking back to the Captain with a shake of her head. "Just general training, lots of diversion when I can stay at range and grappling when I can't. There's nothing pretty about it, but you can learn a lot in...four years?" Zircon paused, her expression blank. "It really has been four years, hasn't it?"
She shook her head, as if she could free herself from the sudden pangs of nostalgia with the small motion. "But enough about that. When would you like to meet for dinner?"

"Thursday evening. And if you don't regret it the next morning, than I didn't show you a good enough time" Schörl winked at the lieutenant, letting her go after a companionable squeeze. "Chianti or barolo for the lasagna? And travel safe, Lieutenant. " She shifted back to allow the other conversational space again before they parted ways. AMItotic Can probably close this one on your post?
