Sometimes, Samsara thought that maybe, just maybe... it was time for him to take a break; fly up to the gods' haven, lurk the clouds, get himself reacquainted with the terrain and it's residents. However, no sooner did the thought cross his mind that something would tug at the forefront of his subconscious and the god would sigh and turn his thoughts away from such leisure. Unfortunately for the large, brightly colored god, his domain didn't leave him much spare time at all; there was always someone in need of judgement, somewhere.
There was always somewhere to go, something or someone to take care of, to oversee. He didn't mind though, as for all his loneliness, Samsara didn't crave companionship.
Not really.
After all... the last time he had, had ended so disastrously that he'd had to force himself to forget everything about the one he'd courted. He'd had to trade in most of his memory, the good and the bad, minus the notion that he'd done such a think, in order to do so, and as such... well, he didn't feel particularly rushed to find himself another lady to court. As it was, his job was foremost anyhow, and as he traveled the land, his keen eyesight remain trained, focused on the horizon.
Samsara sought out a mortal whose karma had been long off balance. He'd strayed away from him, however, waiting for the time his senses told him to act, and though he'd not been sure why he'd felt so compelled to wait... wait he had. Now, however, it was finally time to tend to this Killer of Gods that he'd been keeping on the edges of his mind for such a long, long time. Perhaps in tending to him now, and watching over him afterwards, he'd figure out the purpose of the wait.

The god of Karma wasn't alone in his restless thoughts.
Ever since his discussion with Egotism, the small god of Peace had been plagued with dark, troubled thoughts and notions. The violence that had followed Rama's warning had only nailed the coffin of his ideals shut. Peace could not be retained. It was too weak. Too small. Like him, it was easily over-looked for other, more powerful, more dominating domains. Bloodlust, war, chaos, anger, pride... these domains dwarfed and dominated peace both as gods and as actual domains. Peace was a small, fleeting thing. Short-lived and completely unable to stand alone.
Muhali had suggested that he seek out someone older, wiser, and more experienced in the ways of mortals and their hearts. Someone that could suggest a course of action, perhaps ease some of his guilt. Of course- Li wasn't too familiar with his own kin. In fact, he almost feared them more than most mortals did. He was one of them but he kept his distance from them. With a few exceptions, of course.
So it was that the small, young god of peace approached the massive, experienced god of Karma. His head hung low and his ears flat against his scaled neck. Large seafoam eyes drifted up as, all the sudden, he felt even smaller.
"...s-sir?"

So concentrated was he on his search of the distant horizon in front of him... that Karma all but missed the young god of Peace's approach until the small male had pipped up. Confused and somewhat dazed, his concentration snapped, Samsara blinked owlishly for a moment, and then turned his head to the right, somewhat behind him, only to see nothing at all. Another blink followed before a small noise made him lower his eyes, his gaze finally landing on the shrunken, slinking, downright submissive god at his feet, "Aye?" there were clear notes of confusion laced within that single word, as if the large god had no idea why he was being approached.
Either that, or he was idly wondering what poor Li was doing almost pressing his belly to the ground while stuttering up at him, "Is there a problem?" No sooner had Samsara spoken such words, that a shadow descended from the sky, landing just a few feet away from Li himself. Maua kept herself behind the god of peace, but it was clear from her stance and the way her muscles remain strained that she was ready to to leap, pounce, if the situation called for it.
After all, this wasn't the first stop they'd made in their journey, and not all said previous stops had ended amiably at all. In fact, for reasons Maua did not care to think about, the violent encounters far outnumbered the friendly ones so far, and though Karma was big enough to tower over her, she was still ready to give the fight her all, if need should arise. So far, she'd come out victorious out of all fights she'd been forced into, but she suspected that had a lot more to do with the fact she had more to lose than her opponents in every single case, than true talent on her part.
Granted, this god didn't seem violent, but one could never be too sure, and thus, she narrowed her eyes on the male, her head head up regally, and her stance a clear warning.
As the goddess had descended, Karma had bristled quite visibly, but it'd only been for just a moment. His eyes then traveled from one god to the other, and then back again several times before he settled back on his haunches, sitting down on the ground with ease. Despite the fact the goddess almost seemed to radiate murder... the small male god cancelled her aura quite nicely.
In a way, they balanced each other, and Karma appreciated balance, "My... you even have an escort," he drawled at the small god, "A very threatening escort indeed," he paused and raised his gaze, focusing on the female for a moment, "At ease. I mean you no harm, I promise," his words did nothing to 'ease up' the goddess though, whom narrowed her eyes further before sliding her gaze over to Li, as if waiting for his judgement on the situation.

As the male took a seat, Li slowly stood himself up away from the ground. He looked away, his shoulders hunched up unhappily as he dared a few more steps. Maua's presence assured him, and took some of the edge off of the encounter. She radiated murder but Li being who he was never felt it. His sandalwood scent calmed even himself, strange as it was. Drawing in a slow breath, he lifted his head to meet Karma's eyes.
"I was told that you might be able to help me." He said quietly, skirting formality to get right to the heart of the matter. "Muhali believed that you were the right god to approach with my concerns. The god of karma. You understand the light and dark within the mortals, how it balances itself out, how to.. maintain that balance."
He ducked his head. "Do....you know who I am?"

Samsara watched patiently as the smaller god slowly rose up to his full, rather unimpressive height, tilting his head to one side, as if inviting him to go on, to speak up. The kirin's god movement was enough to relax the dark goddess' coiled muscles, and though she drew nearer now, allowing herself to sit down by the smaller male's side, her eyes remain trained on Karma, ever watching.
Still, the peacock god figured he'd done something right, if she was allowing herself to relax, even if it was slightly. He also noted that despite the fact she was not looking at the smaller god, she was atoned to his movements, and it'd been the fact the kirin had relaxed that had caused her own relaxation. This made him realize that she didn't actually have to be watching him to follow his queues.
He was witnessing silent communication of sorts, which was most interesting, given how polar opposites both gods were.
As the kirin sought to catch his sight, Karma turned his head towards him and offered him a kind, encouraging smile. Deep down he was slightly disturbed by the smaller god's initial fear, for it seemed to hint at the fact he'd not been treated kindly by his own kind in the past, and that was... troubling, "Oh?" he said, the single sound obviously encouraging the smaller god further, however, when the smaller god explained himself, Karma's demeanor seemed to change; he looked quite crestfallen, "Oh dear... I'm afraid I might not be of much help. I can not remember this Muhali you speak of, but... this is undoubtedly my fault and not theirs," his eyes looked sad as he continued, "I was recently, within the past couple of years... forced to trade in my memories in a bargain with a goddess, and I can't quite remember events. I know everything I learned from said events, and I can offer wisdom, if you need it, but I can not remember the events that offered me the wisdom, nor the people or places," a small pause, and by the short explanation, it was clear that Samsara was not offering Li the full story, but still, it was enough information to go by.
"Despite the fact that no, I do not know who you are due to my peculiar circumstances... how might I be of service? I know what you speak of," he said, and for a brief moment, he looked at Li, and then towards his shadow of a guard, "I know not your domains, but I can tell you are polar opposites, and balance each other out quite nicely, for example," he breathed in the air, as if savoring it, closing his eyes to enjoy the peace and balance of the moment, "Like Ying and Yang. Two halves of a whole."

He could well understand the god's memory. He himself couldn't recall his past aside from brief, terrible flashes of angry fangs, claws, dark wings, and flashing talons. He remembered pain, a good deal of it, and screaming until his throat had been silenced. The memory sent his gut flipping over and he trembled visibly. Shutting down the path to his memories, he shook his head and looked back to the larger god. It was difficult encountering those who claimed to know him, but he could not respond in kind. A part of him had been lost, perhaps forever, to the trauma of his last passing. At least Maua seemed to remember bits and pieces of it.
"I'm sorry about your memories." He offered gently. "I can relate. All I know of who I was and had been in the past was that I did not often make it to adulthood before the claws of the mortals laid me low."
He cleared his throat as the god encouraged him with a gentle nod of his head to continue. "I am Lei Wei, god of peace, and this is Maua- goddess of psychopathy. Long ago...from what I have been told," He added uncertainly, "We made a pact. She defends me through the course of my life times. Then in the end of times when there is no longer any who seek peace, she....I...." He fidgeted. "...I will sleep forever." He amended.
"But... those days can't be here yet, can they? I... I have spent years searching through prides. Even those I bless originally turn and blood is shed. Is....peace really dying?" He couldn't expect this lion to know, but there was a chance an older lion may have a perspective that he lacked. There was a desperate plea in his tone and a slight tremble to his voice. It couldn't be time yet. He didn't want it to be time yet! There was still good out there, he had seen it. It just didn't seem to gather together in one place.

As Li Wei offered his condolences for his lack of memories, the large god nodded, accepting them, offering in return a small, bittersweet smile, as if to indicate that despite all, it was for the best he'd lost them anyhow, "I'm sorry for your hardships. Life... is hard," he let out a long sigh, "But at the same time, I feel that that hardship is what makes life worth living to us. To anyone, in fact," he turned to look towards the distant horizon, still feeling the pull of his domain, calling for him to tend to it, "If all was handed to us, eased and done... we would not appreciate it. As it is, whenever we manage something, we feel as if we've accomplished much. It's not idea, but it's life."
Samsara closed his mouth and nodded at the younger god again, encouraging him to go on, and no sooner did he speak that the god of Karma raised both brows. A pact would indeed explain the goddess' presence, but it still didn't explain what he felt was a rather unexpected bond between them; one could not fake loyalty and care for another creature, even if a pact was forged, "I see," he drawled, though one quick look at the twitch and bristle that the goddess allowed to be seen before she composed herself... seemed to indicate there was more to that particular story than what Li Wei was letting on.
Alas. Let the young one keep his secrets. After all, Karma had kept his own. It was only fair.
A small, sad smile spread across his maw as the younger god talked and trembled before him, "Oh, my dear one... you have nothing to fear. The end of times are surely not upon us, and though peace is rare, it's quite cherished. You are not dying, of that, I am sure," he motioned towards a rock that lay by their paws, and then looked over to the pair of gods, "Tell me, what do you see there."
When Li did not answer, Maua spoke up, "A shadow," she said.
"A shadow indeed. It's very much like the shadow in all mortals' hearts. In all our hearts, to be honest," he drawled, "But see, here's the thing; in order for that rock there to cast a shadow, there needs to be light present. It's a fine balance, Li Wei; there is always light, and shadow, although it's easier to give into the shadow, the light still shines through eventually," he turned back towards the younger gods and smiled, "What I'm trying to say is that it's quite difficult, impossible even, to maintain peace in a region forever. At some point, the other side must prevail, only for peace to return in the long run. Otherwise... there is no balance between shadow and light," Samsara paused, and then looked heavenward, as if pondering, "Although... there might be ways to encourage mortals towards your domain if you so wish it. There was ways to coax the cycle and monitor it. Would watching it ease the pain you feel? Nourish you?"

It was a burden, for sure. The few times he had watched peace thrive had been few and precious, like gemstones pulled from the earth. The En Gedi had thrived in peace but the pride had endured trial after trial regardless. His own mother had been forced to conceive cubs on the border. The half-faced male had sought to kill him, eat him, and crow over the fact that he had killed a god and defied the natural order of things. His mother, however, had intervened and had paid for it dearly. Without courage's arrival, things would have turned out much worse. Still, the lioness bore the cubs to term and raised them in love. From the shadow had come light... Li quietly ached for his adopted mortal family and wondered over them. Abel and Cain would be adults by now, full into their manes and old enough to start families of their own.
"I understand." He said quietly, "And... my fear isn't for my own comfort. Pain, blood...even death. They're almost constant companions. I don't like any of it, I would rather live in comfort but... it's the mortals." He shook his head and frowned. "When they die, they do not return. When they suffer, there is no promise of escape. They live their whole lives under a shadow because of those that stand over them. Even a good ruler will die one day, and those in his line that step up to replace him lose their way and become tyrants. Those on the outside bring their chaos in and the cycle starts again."
He glanced up. "Is there a way I could monitor it? Ensuring that the mortals can know my domain? Live in peace?"

Li's words were met with a sage nod, "Aye, young one... mortals' lives are short. They need to be tended it; that's the reason I never have time to return home anymore," he gazed towards the heavens, towards the mountains where the realm god gods lay hidden from mortal eyes, "I can't remember the last time I went there," as he turned back towards the pair of gods, he watched the spark of hope rekindle within the male's eyes, "There might be, yes," a pause, and his brow creased with worry, "However, you must understand that there is balance between light and shadow. Your domain can not, and should not always win, and you will also feel these losses. However, when a victory is achieved... you'll be able to see it flourish. If the kingdom falls, you have the knowledge it'd blossomed, and that light can blossom even out of the darkest, most somber places."
He turned towards the shadow goddess, "If we work together, one as light, one as shadow, and I myself, as judge of the balance, we could create a territory where peace is rewarded and war is is punished; we could control the cycle, and if you seek the land... you'll find willing members of the pride, for though peace is rare, it is a treasure, cherished and to be polished. Mortals know this; they just need a chance to do so; why not create one for them? Are we not here to help them? Serve them with our domains?"
The dark pelted goddess did not seem convinced; she, better than most, knew just how deep the darkness in mortals hearts could be. However, she could not open her mouth to reply, for the hope she'd noted within Li's few words had been enough to make her realize that she'd do almost anything, so long it made his happiness return, "I am your service, if Li wants to do this," she said.
Karma smiled briefly, and then paused, a twinkle of mischief passing through his gaze, "Mortal children of gods have gifts we do not posses... the gifts of sight, present, future and past. I believe that first, we should find three seers. Then... with the help of these seers, we can seek out decent rulers for our pride," the dark goddess gaze became questioning and Karma smile, "You are no doubt, wondering why I mention rulers, instead or ruler. Your companion mentions that the succession in families often brings about sin, and I know that one kingdom is not enough for balance; if one kingdom falls, there should still be others standing; our pride will be divided in sections, each ruled by a leader, whom will be blessed by peace if worthy.... or destroyed by psychopathy if foul," he said, "The kingdom shall follow the ruler's fate, so thus, we need more than one, in case the worst happens," he nodded towards the horizon, "Instead of following a bloodline, a seer will be appointed per kingdom, and he or she will seek out the ruler they see most fit. If a ruler falls, a new seer will find a new ruler, and thus the cycle will always be kept under control."
After a small pause, he turned towards the pair, "Do you approve of this idea?"

Li followed the god's gaze but he didn't seem to comprehend that he was looking, vaguely, towards the haven of the gods. He had never been there, not once. Not that he recalled anyway. His earliest memory was waking in a patch of grass near the Blue Nile Falls, the sunlight warming his scaled back. He didn't know who he was, in fact he had walked about like a mortal for the majority of his cubhood. Some called him a gazelle, others just ignored him completely. He had fallen under the care of a mute lioness and lived happily as her odd ball of a child.
Frowning, he followed Kama's eyes back until both gods regarded themselves again. Home?
The topic changed and he nodded slowly. Ideally, he wanted peace to last. He wanted mortals of every generation to live without fear. He wanted to watch them find love and make cubs, to raise them under their values, to pass on knowing their lives had been good ones, and for their offspring to carry their flames into the next generation. That was ideal. Philosophically he could understand why a balance would have to be met, but he didn't have to like it.
Of course, his shadow sat beside him and he quite liked her. He glanced her way and smiled softly. Darkness did make lights, small as they were, seem lighter. Heros and the great stories around them weren't told in times of peace. Heros rose out of chaos and strife, bringing light to those willing to reach out for it. Perhaps darkness had its place too.
He leaned his head against Maua's shoulder softly, a silent show of appreciation both for her words and her purpose as a goddess.
Looking back to Karma he nodded. The seers. The En Gedi had a few, he had never spoken to them directly though. He had the inborn curiosity and reservation against seers. They were something between gods and mortals, able to see where even the gods could not. Having them look into the future, look into the past, and find someone in the present that would best lead a kingdom seemed so logical it was almost simple.
"It's a very good idea. A wise one." He nodded once and looked to Maua. "We could find a place for them. A place where we make sure they live good lives, and punish them if they don't..." Though that side of it made him sad, and openly so.
Looking back to Karma he ducked his head. "Tell me what to do."

"Tell me what to do."
The large god took one last look towards the distant horizon, where he felt the pull of karma so heavily, emanating from that one single mortal whom seemed to be calling for him so subconsciously. Alas; the mortal would have to wait just a little bit longer. After all, the balance was tipped already, and it'd do no harm for him to wait just a touch when a fellow god seemed to need his help, "First... we go seek out our seers," he drawled, "In doing so, we'll have to stop tending to our respective domains as exhaustively as we usually do, since we'll need to put our energies into the search. It'll hopefully pay off in the long run, however," he finally stood up from where he'd remain seated, and started walking in the opposite direction in which he'd been heading.
Maua, who'd been watching the larger god, narrowed her eyes in question, "Why that way? You were previously heading in the opposite direction. So... why the change?"
"Ah," came the response from Karma as he looked back over his shoulder towards the pair of younger gods, "That would be because down that path is someone that's long since been in need of my services and given we need to put our jobs behind us for a few days... we best go in the other direction," he watched the goddess as she arched a brow, and offered her a kind smile, "Alas, fear not. He's not going anywhere. I'll get to him soon enough; this is a much more pressing issue, so thus, let's tend to these seers, shall we?" that said, he began walking again, albeit slowly, giving the pair of younger gods time to get up and catch up.
Despite the fact Maua had been sitting quite comfortably, allowing Li to recline his weight against her form, she soon enough let out a sigh, "Time to get busy then," she gave the kirin god a small, loving nudge with her maw to warn him that she was going to pull away and then slowly got up, waiting for Li to walk ahead of her so she could keep careful watch of his back side.

Find three seers.
It sounded simple enough but the world was sometimes unkind to the seers. Some were persecuted and sent away from their prides, others felt the need to suppress themselves. Then there were those that wandered aimlessly, trying to find meaning in their visions. They would find a place with the gods then, even if the majority of their brethren feared them.
Smiling, he nudged Maua back then climbed up to all fours. He followed Karma, pointing his horn in the direction that the god was facing. It would be a task, an exhausting one in fact. The gods would have to deny the pull of their domains and all other matters in order to simply press on. There was no alternative though, not in his mind. The mortals deserved to know a good life.
"I'll search the west wind." He offered, turning his head slightly to Karma. "Maua will watch my back. When we have found our seers, we will find you here."
With that, the god broke into a galloping run, calling on whisps of cloud to replace the earth under his paws and hooves. Like an arrow loosed from a bow, he shot into the sky.
Maua || Maua watched as Li Wei broke out into a gallop and then, rose up into the air, before swiftly spreading her wings and easily catapulting into the air. It wasn't until they were far away enough from Karma that the large, dark goddess broke their usual flight formation and drew nearer to the wingless god, "Is this what you want, then?" she inquired as she flew alongside him, keeping up with his gallop across the sky with ease and grace despite using wings, "Seers? A kingdom?" her eyes narrowed as she spoke, "You rather do this than what we've been doing for so long? I know it hasn't always been rainbows and butterflies, our job, but... it's our job. Do you really think that making a pride like this will make a difference?" her lips pulled back into a small sneer.
Unlike Li, Maua had never been entirely fond of mortals.
After all, the most prominent memory she had of mortals... was watching them murder the god by her side before laying her to rest too.
She didn't like mortals, and working along side them didn't sit right in her stomach, "I don't trust them. I know what lurks in their hearts. I don't like it." Li Wei || Despite his youthful, almost cubbish nature, Li somehow looked older than time as he ran. There was a determination in his eyes that had been lacking for much of his life, a sense of purpose and hope. He took his strides gracefully and smoothly, bounding like a gazelle more than a lion. Three seers would not be easy to find, but they were out there somewhere. He knew of prides that exalted them and some that shunned them. He knew of stories where the visions caused them pain and torment and stories where they saved whole prides.
The lion turned to his companion. "I do want this, but not for me, Maua." He looked ahead once more. "We'll both still have our duty to the world, there's no escaping that until the day you put me to my final rest... but I want to create a place where I can really, truly rest."
He shook his head. En Gedi was a wonderful place and he did find rest there so often beside his mortal-mother. However, the gods themselves didn't protect it. THey didn't rely on visions to protect the pride. Twice now the pride had fallen under attack and his own mother had paid for his neglagence.
"I want a place where not only I get to rest- but you as well. I know how hard it is on you to keep your eyes on me, I know how you worry."
Maua || The large goddess' ears swiveled back, flattening against her head as her companion spoke, her head turning to look away from him as she grit her teeth. She attempted to not look as utterly annoyed as she felt (and was failing rather gloriously at it), however, when she could bear it no longer, she growled, "I don't like it," she told Li Wei, "I understand your attatchment to mortals, I do! And I'm not here to tell you you're wrong, but I don't like them. I don't trust mortals. My last.... the last memory I have of them," her lips pulled back to reveal sharp fangs, unwilling to continue, "And you want to build a kingdom for them? What if history repeats itself! I'm not ready for you to die! I refuse!" Maua was thankful that all the way up here, no one could hear her little tantrum; not her mother, and not preeing mortals that could see her as less of a threat for it. It didn't quite help that she'd been skirting around her feelings for more than one life time by now, and she'd not bee brave enough to actually voice how much she damn well cared for this small god. She didn't want the one she loved to die before here. Not again.
Li Wei || The god smiled sadly and glanced over to the dark lioness. He came to a stop, trotting in place before he calmly walked to stand in front of her. The clouds around his feet swirled and moved with the motions, then became stationary as he did. "...Maua, my last memory was of fangs, claws, and angry birds pecking out my eyes. I know...watching that had to be hard for you. So hard." His ears lowered. "If you do not want this, I understand... I won't ask you to do something that you don't want to do, but..." He glanced down to the earth below them. "We are gods. We were given the task not to rule over- but to serve the mortals. To represent parts of themselves and bring it out of them. If I don't fight for peace in their hearts, not only will their lives become hell very quickly but belief in me will fade...then you will have to take me into the forever-sleep sooner rather than later." He looked up to her. "We're all connected. We need them as much as they need us."
Maua || She could have said she didn't really even CARE about being a goddess (what good had it brought her? Them?), but at the same time, she'd be lieing, because it was her power, her domain, that had lead up to finding him, to their pact, everything. As he slowled down, so did she, until she was holding her ground, flapping her wings beside him, head turned away from as she kept her ears flat against the nape of her neck. She childishly, inmaturely, almost didn't want to listen to him; she wanted to scream and tell him he was wrong, even when she knew how right he was. In the end, though, she kept silent for a long while after he spoke. A few beats of silence later, Maua finally turned to look him in the eye, "I love you," she told him, "I love you more than life itself, and I refuse to let you die again," her confession was sombre, serious, but honest, "I will do this thing. I will be part of it. But I do it for you, because I love you. Not for them. They... will need to prove themselves to me before I trust them. Any of them." Li Wei || Li's ears shot up at her confession. He hadn't expected such tender words from the goddess of psychopathy, not by a long shot. He felt, more than knew, that they had feelings beyond a partnership or even a friendship but he wasn't qutie sure how to go about voicing it. Maua, as she always did, took the plunge for him. His ears lowered as his eyes softened and his maw curled into a warm smile. "I love you too." He stepped forward and gently touched inbetween her eyes with his horn. She would feel a rush of calm, ease, and peace run through her along with the spike in the subtle but comforting smell of sandalwood. "My protector. Thank you."
Maua || The touch of his horn brought calm to the storm brewing in her mind, and the goddess couldn't help but close her eyes, enjoying the feeling. Not only did the peace seep into her, but the trust he put forth, touching her with his horn as he did. After all, she knew well enough he could not stand others touching his horn, and often grew sick if they did.
She stayed like that for a long while, leaning into him, allowing her srength to seep into him too, allowing her confidence to radiate around him, a silent promise that this time.... she would not fail.
And then, after enough time had passed, Maua finally leaned back away from him, licking his maw before she pulled away entirely, "Let's go find us those seers then," she said before nudging the other god to follow her back into their previous rush.
