It was almost January 7th.

Up until last year Arian would have considered January 7th an unremarkable date - it was seven days into January, a day like any other day - hardly the sort of thing to stick in memory.

Last year, however he had been out patrolling in the late hours of January 7th as his senshi counterpart Athene and his path had crossed with that of the Nega-General Painite and since that day the date had become forever etched in his mind as the day of his biggest failure as a senshi to date.

Painite had tried to kill him - had in fact come scarily close to yanking his star seed - but an unknown senshi and ********* had intervened and saved his life.

As Athene he had survived the encounter as a newly upgraded eternal with a scar on his side from Painite's spear to act as a permanent reminder of the night however the other senshi hadn't been so lucky.

There had a footnote in the paper a few days later, about a dead student from Hillworth that had been found in the area that had left Arian wondering if the teen had perhaps been his mysterious saviour, but he had never seen the other unpowered - didn't even know the other's senshi name.

Arian wasn't sure when he had come to the decision to lay flowers for the unknown senshi on the one year anniversary, but Farah's Garden had come to mind as a place where he could potentially pick up the flowers. He'd hesitated at first however, mindful of Orah's injuries and the fact that his friend's right hand was currently in a cast but eventually Arian had decided to drop by the flower shop and have a look at the pre-made bouquets to see if he could find anything.

It was a bit of a surprise to come out of the back and see Arian in the shop, but it was a good surprise. A bright smile spread over Orah's face as she set a vase of flowers down on the check out counter and came through the shop to give her friend a welcoming hug.

"Arian! I didn't know you were coming over... How are you? Do you need something?" Orah as sure there must be a good reason for his unannounced visit beyond seeing her. He would have called otherwise, or something. Not that she minded! It was always wonderful to see her friends and a break in routine was also enjoyable.

Stepping back, she smoothed her cream-colored sweater dress over her hips, straightening the green apron she wore over it with the shop's logo on the front. Her hair was up today, hanging down her back in a curling ponytail. Next to the register behind her, a calico cat yawned widely and stretched, hardly giving the stranger a look before going back to napping in her warm cat bed.

"Hi Orah" Arian. He had been glancing at some of the premade bouquets, but at the sound of his friend's voice he glanced over in her direction with a friendly smile. "I was hoping to buy a bunch of flowers" he admitted "And this was the first place I thought off." Well okay it had been pretty much the only place that he'd thought off.

He gestured at the made up bouquets "I thought I could go for one of these," he said. "But I'm not sure which to go for, and I need them for a couple of days time."

Arian really didn't know anything about flowers and had no ideas about how to go about choosing flowers to lay for someone that he knew nothing off, not their likes, dislikes or even their name.

He hesitated before adding "It's an anniversary of sorts." Albeit an anniversary more for Athene rather than for him.

Buying flowers? Well! That was certainly something she could help with. It wasn't often she got friends coming in to buy, but the young woman didn't mind seeing them in the least.

"Well! First off, if you don't mind me asking, what anniversary are you celebrating?" That was always an important thing to know. When you knew what an event meant to someone, it was easier to pair the right flowers with the right meanings to them. Orah found herself wondering if he had a significant other he wanted to surprise with a gift, or if it was for his parents. It wasn't uncommon for children to want to celebrate their parent's anniversary with a gift.

"You wouldn't have to have one of those premade bouquets, either. I wouldn't mind making one up special for you."

Arian hesitated again at Orah's question, eyes glancing around the shop briefly before answering. "It's not an anniversary for me per se" he admitted at last as he noted the relative quiet of the shop. His quiet voice was lower than normal as he added, hoping that his friend would get the unspoken reference "At least not me like this" before continuing just as quietly "And it's for a remembrance rather than a celebration."

Although the 7th was the anniversary of the day that his powered counterpart Athene had turned eternal, the events that had gone down that night weren't something Arian saw as something to be celebrated, forever linked as the day had become to him with Athene's weakness and failure that night and the consequences that had come about from it.

He bit his lip "I know it's silly, but I wanted to lay some flowers." After all once after Arian had come to the decision to lay flowers he hadn't particularly thought the mechanics through beyond the fact that the 7th was in a couple of days and having the idea of going to go to Farah's Garden and see if he could buy some.

"Oh."

Orah had an idea of what Arian was talking about. How could she not? She was one of a few people who knew him as both sides of his life. And remembrance? All florist were familiar with some of the sad events that were tied with the purchase of flowers. Her expression soft, the young woman reached to give her friend's arm a squeeze and a soft smile.

"Its okay, I know what you mean. Here, why don't you wait here and I'll go get something for you." She said before she glanced around the shop and slipped into the back. It didn't take her long, Orah knew what she wanted and where it was after all, so in moments the young woman was out front again, bringing with her two small handfuls of flowers that she lay across the counter. From below the counter came lengths of ribbon and her clever hands began to assemble a small bouquet while he watched.

First a pair of white Roses were selected and then sprays of Forget-me-nots were placed carefully around them to frame and fill out the bouquet. She kept it simple, elegant, and bound the long stems together with a pair of ribbons in teal and bronze. The over all effect was wholesome and sweet, not gaudy or flashy. Orah offered the bouquet for Arian to look over.

"What do you think? White roses are... innocence, wistfulness. Forget-me-nots are love, but also remembrance. I thought the ribbons were appropriate colors, too." She said softly.

Arian had nodded and stayed put as asked as Orah disappeared out back briefly before returning with some flowers, watching as his friend weaved her magic with them before holding out the finished bouquet for him to look at.

"Thank you Orah" his quiet voice was heartfelt as he carefully took the finished bouquet from Orah and studied it "This is perfect." The end result was so much more than he'd been expecting - from the forget-me-nots that both added colour to and softened the white of the roses - to the ribbons that echoed his senshi colours. "Really perfect."

He carefully laid the bouquet down and reached down for his bag, intending to grab his wallet. "How much do I owe you for it?"
