((WARNING: This RP is of a dark and violent nature. Soquili death will occur! Also! There will be miscarriage (not graphic) later in the RP. Be aware!)) "I killed my grandmother, you know." The way Samsara said it had the air of neutrality, similar to the tone that someone might comment on the weather with. "I didn't have a second thought about it then, and I don't now." She remembered back to that day. Since becoming an elder, she'd lost so many of her memories of her previous life, but the memory of that day was one that hadn't faded and never would. That day had made her what she was now.
"Do you know why I'm telling you this?" her voice was still deceptively calm as she focused on the cowering orange figure before her. She waited a beat, paused, and then suddenly was the monster once more, a shrieking demon of fangs.
"I'm telling you this because if I killed my own grandmother do you really think that there is ANYTHING you can say that will stop me from killing you?" she screamed at the little usdia.

"N-no... please..." Already Ostara was bleeding from skinwalker bites. She couldn't escape. She couldn't even breathe well enough to beg for her life. Skinwalker. How many times had she listened to stories told about ancient heroes vanquishing their skinwalker opponent? How many times had she thought of skinwalkers as an overblown fairytale? She had never seen a skinwalker herself up until this moment... hadn't even known anyone who'd ever seen one. She'd lived her entire life up until this point as if skinwalkers were a distant problem for distant people. How naive she'd been.
"H-help!" Ostara hadn't seen anyone around... but maybe there was. Maybe there was someone within earshot that could sweep in and rescue her, just like the stories. Maybe it would be an usdia prince. Maybe an angeni would sweep down from the heavens and turn the skinwalker into a kitten. Maybe maybe maybe.
Maybe just wasn't good enough today.

Unlike Ostara, Samsara knew that there actually were other soquili in the area. She'd passed over a small herd in favor of a more personal experience with this pathetic little creature. She didn't regret it... and if the herd showed up and tried to interfere? She would tear them bloody too. "No one is going to save you," she hissed at the trembling usdia. "No one."
With a flap of her wings she attacked the usdia again, snapping and lashing out with her sharp red hooves.

Ostara let out a piercing whinny of horror as the skinwalker descended upon her again. The skinwalker was snapping at her neck and Ostara barely managed to duck in time to avoid getting gripped. Samsara tore away one of her braids instead, but in her terror Ostara didn't even notice.
With strength and speed born from her body's desperate attempt at survival, she managed to split away from the skinwalker. She ran blindly away, hooves carrying her wherever going was easiest. The smartest thing to do would have been to try to find somewhere that her smaller size would be the advantage, but Ostara wasn't thinking clearly enough to even attempt it.

Too easy. Samsara spat out the braid and took to the air. Unlike a wind soquili's wide wings, hers were far more maneuverable. She overtook the usdia in barely a moment's time and followed her like a malevolent shadow.
Not wanting to end the chase immediately, Samsara taunted Ostara. She kicked at the mare's back with her hooves, tormenting her from the air. She dived down to run a few steps beside the usdia before flapping up again, landing on her other side and herding her in the other direction. Samsara was filled with devilish delight at her sadistic sport. She'd never cared much for usdias, but maybe they were worth something after all!

No matter what she did, the skinwalker followed. She was like a wraith, in one place one moment and another the next. Whenever she felt the n** of the hooves on her back Ostara ran a little faster. Faster and faster she went until she no longer was even sure where she was going, except that she was trying to get away.
When skinwalker appeared again on her right side, Ostara made a misstep. She had been too panicked to keep an eye on her surroundings and her hoof caught in a large branch that lay in her path. She tripped. She fell. And then a shadow came over her.

The usdia fell to the ground and Samsara followed, a whirlwind of snapping teeth.
It was over.

It was a lovely and tranquil evening in the khalasar. They would stop soon, but walked onward for a little longer. Nicoletta was glad when sun set, no longer having to squint and bow her head against its last light. Daenerys walked with some of the herd members, talking about some local custom or other. Nicoletta walked alone, but this suited her nicely. She and Daenerys were strangers to this land and sometimes Nicoletta felt isolated for it. Sometimes she had a hard time interacting with the locals and it was nice to finally have a bit of time on her own.
The sky really did have such lovely colors. There was a particularly pretty shade of orange right near the horizon, quickly fading into something darker. A lovely orange indeed. Strangely enough... there was something almost the exact same shade of orange lying in the grass not too far away. Something furry. Something bloody.
"Daenerys! Roarke!" shrieked Nicoletta, overcome by horror as she realized what it was that she was looking at.

Roarke had quite been enjoying his life since meeting Daenerys and joining her khalasar. He felt like he'd taken on an entirely new life. No longer was he bound to watch over the one river, which, to be honest, could get quite boring. Now he roamed watching over all of Daenerys' people. Most of those being female, one of those being his mate and future mother of his children. Roarke grinned to himself. He was going to have children running around soon enough.
His little glee fest came to a quick close when he heard Nicoletta shrieking like someone had been murdered. Roarke charged towards Nicoletta to see what was wrong. He stopped just short of her as he realized exactly what the trouble was. Someone actually had been murdered, or at least close to it. Roarke moved slowly as he approached the little body laying in the grass. It was an usdia mare and she was covered in blood and bite marks.
Roarke drew back in alarm. "This wasn't a normal attack..." He said positioning himself closer to Nicoletta as he looked around for signs of trouble. Something had killed this mare for fun, not for food. "What did this...?" He asked mostly to himself as he scanned the area for movement.

Daenerys was the third to arrive at the scene. Drogon, coiled around her neck, gave a sharp cry upon seeing the body. Dany's reaction was limited to a soft gasp. The poor usdia looked like she'd been mauled by a wild animal, but what animal would make a kill and then leave it without eating?
"The poor thing," she murmured while Roarke stood on guard. There were very few animals even large enough to attack a soquili. It could have been a bear, wolves, or a mountain lion, but it didn't seem like bear country and Daenerys had seen no wolves. "Do you think it was a kalona?" she asked Roarke, troubled. She studied the usdia's face and wondered if she had any family around that could be informed. It was truly a tragedy that-
Daenerys nearly jumped out of her skin when the usdia's eyes suddenly opened. "She's alive!"

Ostara was indeed still alive, but barely and fading fast. She awoke to the sounds of talking and the silhouettes of soquili on the darkening sky. In her haze, Ostara wondered at the horned giants. Were they kalona? Kalona had horns, but they didn't look like they were going to hurt her like a kalona would have.
"Help... me..." she whispered hoarsely. "Skinwalker...." She tried to lift her head but stopped with a whimper. She was lying in something wet. Was that her blood? She felt that she ought to be more afraid, but she was just so tired and in pain...

Roarke was astonished. How could she possibly be alive with all that blood nowhere near where it belonged? As she rasped about a skinwalker Roarke came to a conclusion that made his blood run cold. If she was still alive in that state than the attack was recent, the creature was likely still nearby. If it was a skinwalker that had done it then they were all in more danger than he thought.
"Daenerys..." He said quietly to their leader. The usdia was asking for help but there was nothing they could do for her. She was as good as dead. An entire herd of unicorns couldn't save her at this stage. "We need to go...we can't help. The skinwalker is probably still close." His voice was steadily growing louder with his urgency. Remembering that skinwalkers could take different forms he turned back to the dying mini. "What form did it take?" He prayed it was something smallish.

Ostara tried to make sense of what was going on. Soquili. Soquili talking to her. "Cat.. It was a cat. With butterfly wings... and horns..." She trailed off. Had he said that he couldn't help her? A tear ran down Ostara's face, mixing with the blood that was already there. Was it night now? Everything was starting to seem so dark...

((OOC explanation: A breeding was bought for Mi Ren Ko with NCS credits, but canceled during the shop explosion. Permission was granted by Uta to use her preg cert here.)) It was a cat. With butterfly wings... and horns... Mi Ren Ko had almost reached the other three when she heard what the rasping voice described. Cat. Butterfly wings. Horns. A chill came over her. She stiffly stared at Roarke and the others. Who was it talking? Her eyes slid downwards. Her vision was obscured by the legs and hooves of the others, but she could make out a splash of orange amidst a sea of blood. It was a cat. With butterfly wings... and horns... Samsara.
Mi Ren Ko had been with the herd the day that Samsara had attacked. She'd seen the bodies then too, and they'd looked a lot like whatever poor soul was lying in the grass. Silently she turned her back on the dreadful scene, walking stiff-legged away. First she walked slowly.
Samsara.
Then she walked a little more quickly.
Samsara!
Finally, she broke out into a run. In a growing panic Mi Ren Ko ran away, moving as fast as she could with her belly heavy with foals. As it turned out... that would be a mistake.

Daenerys didn't even notice Mi Ren Ko approach. She had other things on her mind, like Roarke and the poor dying usdia. "I'm not leaving her here," she told Roarke firmly. There was enough tragedy already without leaving the usdia to die alone. "Nicoletta." Her friend had been silent ever since finding the usdia. "Go back to the others. Find Helki and bring her over here. Quickly!" Helki was the healer of their little herd. Even if the usdia was dying, maybe Helki could do something to ease her pain.
She looked back to Roarke. "Keep a watch for skinwalkers, but we won't leave until..." She hesitated, sensing the usdia still watching. "Until I'm ready." And that was that. Without waiting to see if she was being heeded, Daenerys lay herself down on the ground beside the fallen usdia. She could feel the blood soaking into her fine white fur, but blood would wash out.
"There there," she murmured soothingly. She put a wing over the usdia's tortured body, like Viserys used to do with her before his mind grew twisted. "You're safe now." Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes, but she willed herself not to weep while the usdia still lived. Her tears didn't have the power to close wounds.
