 It wasn't quite a sulk. It was most definitely a pout though. Akane sat back from the training grounds, watching. She'd pulled a muscle in her back leg a day ago. Nothing serious, but she was out of training and patrols for a couple of days. The injury put her out of sorts. She didn't want to admit she might have been training too hard. Akane gave a sigh and hung her head a bit. Her jackal was out and about doing something. Which left her with time on her paws.

He had no duties today, so Leek was visiting the training grounds. It wasn't that he was interested in sparring at the moment. Rather, the wing-marked red lion wanted to see what others were up to. What techniques could he learn from observation of lions born and bred in these sands? Or from others who had been here a while! He looked at pairs fighting with interest, paying attention to where he was going only enough to not run into someone. As he turned, his eye stopped on bright gold out of a very dark, almost black, red. "You just here to watch, too?" He offered a smile, hoping that he wasn't the only one simply here to observe.

Akane lifted her golden gaze as an unfamiliar voice spoke nearby. She'd purposefully put herself far enough away that no one would think she was waiting a turn to spar. Her eyes met the green ones of a mostly red lion. The lioness glanced toward those on the training grounds then back to him. She gave a bit of a shrug.
"I suppose. Pulled a muscle and was told to take it easy for a couple of days." If she wasn't training, or patrolling she didn't know what to do with herself. Sitting out here under the sun watching others had seemed like a better idea than sitting bored in her den. On the other paw, watching made her jealous that she couldn't spar too. She tossed her head. "What about you?"

He looked over at the spotted lioness. "I'm guessing you're one of the Soldiers... I haven't seen you amid the Guards before, and you look a bit bored watching them, like you want to be in there. Of course, I could be entirely wrong and you're a Huntress... Because I don't see a few of the Medics out here fighting." He glanced at the sparring lions. Actually, he didn't know who most of the medics WERE, only that one was excessively angry.

Akane was a bit surprised by his insight. She gave a low chuckle. "No you were right the first time. I am a soldier, and I would rather be out there." Was there a bit of longing in her voice? She shook her head. "I strained a leg and have been ordered to take it easy. I'm going to guess your in the Guards hm? The Medics seem to be more interested in healing, and rely on us to protect them." Her eyes flitted over the pairs before them. Some she didn't know, but could identify by their fighting style. When she wasn't actively engaged, she studied.

It hadn't been the longing in her voice that had tipped Leek off, but the way she was watching. He'd seen the same sort of longing in his brother, Atlas, with the way he looked at every patch of swamp-like ground. Atlas wasn't a lion meant to come to a desert. The other lion had said Leek, then known still as Moshi, looked at the world beyond the swamps the same way. It was why he liked being a guard - He could meet rogues at the border and learn about the world beyond, though he had no desire now to leave the sands for the world beyond.
He glanced at the lioness, smiling. "Yes, I'm a guard." He pointed with a paw. "Do you see that angry white lion there, with the black mane and darker back marking? We got partnered up to patrol together.. I guess they were hoping I could help control his anger, but it's not worked YET. It's why I'm just WATCHING, not JOINING." He crossed his paws, laughing a bit. "P'leimis gives me ENOUGH practice on his own!"

Akane hoped that if she couldn't be actively learning then perhaps she might pick up some new moves to practice by watching. She smiled as she nailed her guess. Curiously she followed his pointing paw. She nodded as she watched the indicated lion's partner get in a good hit and the white male snarled.
"Mmmmmm probably wise if you don't want to be thrashed." She nodded with sympathy. Akane wondered why the white male was so angry. She stored the name in the back of her mind for later. Perhaps she could ask around. "Unlucky eh? What have you tried? Are you suppose to be soothing somehow?" Her eyes glanced again at the male beside her. Surely the higher commanders would have a reason for pairing them together. It didn't sound if it was working though.
