The moon shone small and pale between the cluster of trees, its soft rays straining to reach the shadows in which Inugami lay. Between her jaws was the tan form of half-frozen rabbit, old and stiff but edible all the same. When she looked about her it was with a hunter’s eyes, not a prey’s, and that coupled with her sharp fangs and thick paws suggested it was not a lack of skill that left her with such paltry game – after all, not even the best of predators could find food when there was none. A quail had passed her earlier, but she wasn’t fond of birds. Their feathers reminded her too much of the sisters and brothers she’d left behind.
Soon the rabbit was little more than chunks of skin and bone, but it was not enough to sate her hunger. Unfortunately, catching another meal was out of the question. It was not her vision that hindered her, but her eyes: they glowed with such intensity that even the softest of her gazes seemed to burn. Their light did not travel far, but it went far enough. In times of desperation, she could always try her paw at other predators – the ones who didn’t run, and were strong enough to afford the luxury. But when her hunger was no more than an ache, as it was now, the risk was too great when she could simply continue after a night’s rest.
Rising soundlessly to her feet, she shook out her fur to guard against the cold before padding on. Sleep could come later; the night was still young, and she was eager to see more of this land and the creatures that called it home.

Chosovi didn’t know how far she had gone, but it felt like days had passed and she was growing increasingly tired. She always traveled and always wandered away from her family land as much as she could. Flicking her tail, she looked up at the sky seeing the stars and the moon shining happily in the sky. She sometimes wished she could fly and even her mother wished that at times. She always felt connected with the stars and always felt like it was one of the things that soothed her.
Tearing her eyes from the sky, she looked onward seeing something move in the distance and at first wasn’t sure if she should pursue it. It could be another wolf and one that wouldn’t be fond of her. She didn’t want to risk getting mauled to near death again. But her curiosity always got the better of her. She followed after the other seeing the white coat stand out among the darkness. When she was close enough, she stopped in her tracks flicking her tail and clamping her jaw shut for a moment. “Hello.” She didn’t know what else to say and didn’t even know what he creature was. She moved closer seeing the white tail and pawed feet knowing exactly what she was now. She was a wolf or at least looked like one. It was the one thing she found fascinating.
“I am simply wandering and don’t want any trouble.” She growled low in her throat. It was both true and false. She didn’t like to start trouble and would avoid it if she could, but she wasn’t wandering. No, she was following this mare and there was no mistake about it, she was too curious now to let the mare wander off without some kind of explanation as to what she was.

An ear flickered and swung back as Inugami walked, cupped to better catch the stifled sounds. She thought she could hear the steps of another close by, but they were so quiet they may as well have been nothing more but the products of her imagination. Few were like to follow her besides, for she found that the color of her eyes had the misfortune of being associated blood and demons and other such things, and many took her to be worse than she really was. But she was used to it by now – which was why the steps of her newfound companion was so conspicuous to her, despite the stealth her follower evidently possessed.
“Greetings, sister,” she said, swerving mid-stride to face the mare. The title meant nothing now; she’d left the Flock of her own choice, but old habits died hard. Would the stranger notice? The sounds of the stranger’s steps had suggested at claws, and her eyes confirmed it. Those feet, combined with the feathery bangs, could have pointed to some connection to the Flock, but Inugami knew better than most that looks were not everything.
“What do want, then?” she asked, though not unkindly. It was the stranger that had initiated this meeting after all, but she didn’t mind. She'd hoped for company, and it had found her.

Sister? This was a term she wasn’t familiar with and even though it didn’t bother her, she found it to be very intriguing. She had heard of that from her father and grandfather. It was something members of the flock said to one another and she honestly felt as though this mare was part of that dreadful flock. Now she was trying to think of what she should do. Her instincts told her to attack because she could be a flock mare, but then her mind was telling her to speak to her. “Greetings. Sister? That is something I’m not familiar with.. But isn’t it something the flock mare’s said to one another?” She asked her flicking her tail behind her and giving the other mare a dreadful look. If she said she was in the flock then she could only imagine how this would go. She didn’t want to harm her. “I do not mean you any harm unless you are part of the flock..it is something that sickens me and I don’t want to be around anyone that is part of that..” She growled in a low voice before stepping a few inches closer to the mare. She couldn’t be part of the flock. Wouldn’t this have been too far from the lands?
“I was simply traveling until I saw you. Your features intrigued me only because I have similar ones and so does my father as well as my grandfather.” She told the other as she remembered meeting her grandfather for the first time. He was a full wolf and it was something she was quite envious of. She may look like a wolf, but her talons were wolf claws. But she was happy with herself and would never want to change it. “If you are not flock…then I would appreciate the company. I want to know of your family lineage because you really resemble someone from my family.” She couldn’t be certain and didn’t know what it was for sure. She hoped she could find out though.

”It is.” The mare’s growing hostility did not go unnoticed, though Inugami made no move to reply in turn. She oft found that remaining neutral was more successful at reducing animosity than battle – and besides, she was no longer a part of the Flock. Most believed her parting had been honorable, but three knew the truth of it: herself; her mother, who had escorted her out of the borders; and the stallion she’d nearly killed.
Blood ran down his gouges and made maps of his coat, forming lakes and rivers in their efforts to strike the earth. “It’s okay, it’s okay – I’ll tell them a wolf did it,” he’d told her, eyes bright despite the pain. He’d been enslaved, but with his loss of freedom came the protection of his brothers and sisters, and she’d struck him purposely. She left that night. Her unhappiness with the Flock had grown more evident as she’d grown, and many did not suspect her. It was the male she had to thank for that. She did not deserve his kindness.
“Once I would have told you the Flock was my home... but no longer.” The mare’s venom was a surprise, but Inugami couldn’t say she didn’t understand it. Even without the incident, her departure had been inevitable, though she would always remember her childhood there fondly.
“And I would know your reasons for despising the Flock,” she said as she stepped towards the mare. “Perhaps we could help each other, then.”
Now that she was closer, she thought she could see a stripe running down the mare’s eyes. She’d seen it once before on her grandfather, though she had been very young when he’d left. Were this mare’s suspicions correct? Family had been the last sort of company she’d expect to find here, but family was the company she liked best.
“I’m Inugami.”

Still the mare didn’t know for sure if she should be treating this other mare as a friend or as a foe. She dind’t look all that threatening, but looks could be very deceiving most of the time. Though her ears perked up at the mention of the flock and how they shared the same mutual feelings. She felt a little safer around this mare even if they were complete strangers just knowing she didn’t like the flock as well made it all the more calming. “My name is Chosovi.” She said to the other examining her strange features which included her glowing eyes until she saw the marking on her leg. It was something her father, sister and she possessed. It was something she was a kind of marker that only someone related to her would have. “Do you know a stallion name Honovi?” She was going to start with her grandfather then work down from there. She didn’t know if her assumptions were right or not just yet, but she had a gut feeling that this mare was her cousin or something of the sort.
“I am relieved and happy I have found someone who feels the same way I do towards the flock. I don’t think I could stand another hate-monger just because I am the way I am. “ She snorted in annoyance before giving a gentle flick of her tail. She knew hate very well and it was something she couldn’t change in people. She could only accept it and move on.
“The night is young..where should we go?” She asked looking at the female with a dead stare before walking slowly in another direction. She craved adventure and mystery, but there never was anyone to do this with.
