Hey all~

I got a join request from awesome guy and CD regular XmasTree. I wanna ask your advice on whether it's votable or not, though.

The account name is Zaknafein_DoUrden. Dig it:

This is XmasTree. I've been interested in Kapow! for a while now, but I haven't been able to come up with a decent character to use for it. I've decided to try Zaknafein Do'Urden. If you don't know who that is, he's a character from the Legend of Drizzt series, which is a series of books but is now being converted into comic book form. I'm a very active Gaian and I won't clutter up you're guild with nonsense, netspeak or useless discussions. I'm good friends with Jak Sacul (Peter Benjamin Parker), a crew member of Dr. Henry Pym's Ultimate Vs. Database and love comics.

I'm not familiar with the name, but apparently it's a book character adapted into a comic? Can anyone shed some light on it?

XmasTree is an awesome guy, and I'm sure we'd all be happy to have him in the guild. However, since Kapow!s specialness is our comic account exclusivity, I thought I would get everyone's feedback. And if I'm wrong and this is an actual comic character, oops. smile

I can neither deny nor confirm the comicness of that character.... Though, he does exist.

I dunno, the world he comes from has the same name as a D&D game I had as a kid...

I've just been infromed that Zaknafein is primarily a Forgotten Realms novel character, and the father of Drizz't. He has been in comics but after he appeared in the novels.

Quote:
Zaknafein Do'Urden is a fictional drow character created by R.A. Salvatore in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting. Zaknafein was the father of the Forgotten Realms' famous drow hero Drizzt Do'Urden.

Zaknafein Do'Urden, famed Weapon Master of House Daermon N'a'shezbaernon, was Drizzt's father, his mentor and his dearest friend. It was he who gave Drizzt the courage to leave Menzoberranzan. He not only trained Drizzt to become an excellent warrior, he also played a great part in shaping his personality, protecting Drizzt from the truth of Menzoberranzan for as long as he could.

Zaknafein Do'Urden was an excellent warrior, the finest in Menzoberranzan, but most importantly, he was a good man. Noble, kind-hearted, and strong in his own way. He did his best to live by his principles, in a world where greed overcomes compassion and ambition overrules all.

Like Goldilocks said, he's a Forgotten Realms character. Salvatore's novels about the Drow character Drizzt Do'Urden are being adapted into comics currently. This character occupies the same territory as Ash and/or Morrigan Aenslaed. wink

I tried to get Ash into Kapow! I was denied.

So basically, this is a character that wasn't created for comics, but is a literary character.

Yes, a novel based on a Dungeons and Dragons campaign setting.

It was originally a book, but it's been adapted into comics. I for one don't see a problem with this, but I'm clearly biased, as he's one of my best friends. Just thought I'd throw in my two cents.

The way the rules currently stand, characters who come from comics adapted from other sources are disqualified from membership because (Wally feel free to correct me here if I'm mistaken), it would take away from the uniqueness and purpose of the guild. If we have characters like Ash, Morrigan, or this guy, it ceases to be a comic book roleplay guild, and becomes a "I was in a comic book once" guild. The opportunities to roleplay a drow on Gaia are numerous. The opportunities to roleplay superheroes in a closed and literate environment are not. It's not even like there's a shortage of characters left to choose from either; we don't even have a Magneto, and there's still two unclaimed Soldiers of Victory for instance.

You've pretty much got it on the head right there. When we first started out, we considered letting in any 'super' sort of people, but it soon became evident that our 'hook' or 'angle' was that we are the Comic Book Character's guild. We have non-superhero characters, but they all pretty much have in common that their roots lie in the funny pages. XmasTree is an awesome guy, and I love seeing him on the boards. I feel bad starting all this fuss just over a screen name. sweatdrop

Well there's got to be at least one character out there that fits the criteria that he likes, right?

Not to play devil's advocate, but what about the Fables? They've been adapted from literary sources. Granted, they've been changed considerably from the source material and have a life of their own outside of their original literary sources... is that what makes them exempt?

'Course, it shouldn't be hard for him to find another character. Hopefully he'll find one soon.
