Ruelash returned to the lake early the next day, hiding right alongside one of the airholes, covered with snow and his blanket, hoping to finally take down one of the awful creatures that taunted him.

They had taunted him even in his dreams the night before, dancing like the fat bastards that they were along the ice, forever out of his reach. Not for much longer though. Today, he had sworn, he would take one down. Any one. It didn't even have to be Khashib. Something just needed to die.

He settled down to wait, though even his hunter's patience was starting to fray. Anticipation was turning into frustration, and he didn't want to wait any longer. He wanted to kill.

Something moved at the hole, and Ruelash's gaze turned hard and predatory as a group of Nehredi emerged to rest on the ice. He managed to wait until the group had emerged onto the ice. He needed them to be settled in and relaxed so that he had a chance of taking one down. He endured the annoyance of being shoved this way and that and nearly being crushed by heavy blubbery bodies as they lolloped around the ice.

Finally, he had his target. He locked in on one Nehredile, greying in fur, fat, and limping with age. It was old and venerable but, most of all, it would be easier prey. Ruelash, at this point, didn't care about pride. He just wanted blood, and one drop was as good as another. He erupted from his hiding place, swords slashing at the ancient nehredile.

But there was a reason why this one was old. It dodged with a leisurely roll and slammed into him, knocking him senseless.

He came to what had to be an hour or so later, his head and body aching from the hard ice. He rose with a groan to find himself alone. The nehredi had gotten away.
