The journey had been long but, Awahi still yearned to see more..to learn more of the world outside her families herd. The young mare had already pestered her grandfather to death for stories and she'd pestered many a traveling soquili for stories..for tidbits of information. Learning drove the female to wander somewhat aimlessly about searching for answers to the oddest questions. What made the fireflies glow? How did the birds and soquili with wings learn to fly? What was it like to fly? Could they reach the sun or stars with their wings? Sighing wistfully Awahi moved through a shady area of forest, her eyes noting small things. Anything different captured the mares attention for long moments of time before she'd turn once more to move forward. Always forward. It was as she neared a place that seemed to edge a herds territory that Awahi had to pause, it would be rude & could be quite dangerous to enter another herds territory without said herd's knowledge. Brows furrowing ever so slightly she tried turning right..walking just along the edge. Teetering just at the edge of being a trespasser. Hopefully anyone she met would be friendly.

Chromatos was flying rounds, watching for signs of trouble. As he reached the penultimate edge of his journey, he hovered a moment, studying below. Was that... It was. Some one was on the edge of the herd lands. Well. Was it a visitor, come to try their teas? Or just a traveler? He was hoping it wasn't some one... of another nature entirely. After a long moment, with his wings beating hard, he made a decision, and stooped for a landing, coming to a rest in a place where she, based on her current path, was likely to come to shortly. He composed himself, and stood waiting, head held high.

Being a well trained huntress Awahi picked up the subtle sounds & smells of someone or something nearby..it was directly along the path she already traveled so the mare kept her pace casual..thankful that she had eaten a meal the night before. Not a speck of blood marred her otherwise pale form, nothing to give away that she had slain a small furred creature for sustenance. There was no need to frighten those she met while traveling..most would act guarded enough around a mare with claws and a tail that was like a wolf. Peering through a few low hanging branches Awahi offered a delicate bow of greeting, remembering the manners she'd been taught as a foal. "Good day. I see you are the one who stirred the forest to life.." What a strangely..wonderful looking stallion. So many colors danced across his back, mighty wings sat rather regally upon his back. He looked rather strong as well which caused Awahi to keep her distance for now. Even those without fangs or claws could fight to defend a territory, she'd seen it first hand from many within the ghost herd. "I pray that I'm not trespassing on your herd's land.."

Chroma studied the mare in front of him, silently. Claws and a wolf's tail. That was interesting. He'd never met anyone with such an unusual combination, though he'd heard of such things. The feathers on her head was interesting, too. Bells and a... stole perhaps? Hmmmm. He was curious as to what and who she was. "Good day, miss. Indeed I did, for it's hard to land without doing so, when you're as large as I."
He moved slowly forwards, tilting his head as he studied the mare. "No, you are not trespassing, though your are close to the edge of our lands. What brings you out this way, miss?" He blinked slowly, his nostrils half flared to get a hint of her scent. "Do you know where you are, even?"

Cautious as ever Awahi let her claws quietly dig at the earth, he was even more large up close..but, he did not seem to be malicious in nature so she let her claws relax atop the now slightly clawed soil. "I see.." Smiling and letting out a soft laugh the mare stepped towards a tree, head lowering to sniff at a few plants here and there. "We are all lost in this wild, wide world..but, to answer your question good sir..no. I am known as Awahi. I never know where I will end up because I simply move forward. I only turn back when my thirst for knowledge has been quenched." Smile becoming a bit coy she allowed her head to once more rise, eyes lit up with curiosity... with delight. "I come in search of new things, new soquili...new friendships..herbs..goods for trading. Anything and everything really." Tail swaying & bells giving a soft chime when she moved just so; the mare settled back before the stranger... wishing to touch the scales upon his back to see what they felt like. Already Awahi felt her mind getting away from her. Would they be hard? Sleek? Did they have a scent? A taste? Were they sharp or silky? Would they shimmer in the sunlight? She had so many questions but, forced them down for the time being. Patience.

He watched her digging at the earth with her feet, wondering what was going through her head. He watched every move she made, in fact, just in case she made a different move that he would not like at all. At her words about being lost, though, his brows raised. Interesting, a philospher inside this one, it seemed. "Well ALL lost seems... A bit extreme to me, but I can see what you mean." At her introduction, he nodded, almost a regal move. "I am Chromatos. These are the White Leaf Herd's lands."
At the word trading, he gave a wistful smile. "Ah you are a trader? I come from a long family of traders. I miss the road some days." He sighed but shook his head. "But I could not leave the Herd without a proper protector and there is no one in the herd as fit for this as myself. But if you are a trader, what do you trade in? We deal in tea, here in this herd, and are interested in trading our teas with the world, if some one brings the right goods to trade."

Listening with a faint flick of the ear Awahi looked up towards the sky to quell her need to ask a million questions. No need to frighten the male. Chromatos. He seemed rather calm and it would be rude to start rattling off questions, no it would need to wait. Though the mention of 'tea' had her eyes moving to meet the stallions once more, curiosity piqued. "Tea? What is that? Is it a food? Something to wear?" Head tilting ever so slightly to one side the mare tried to fathom what this 'tea' was. Something the herd here traded? Again the questions filled her mind and left Awahi reeling. Fighting to control her curiosity..some days she felt like a foal..she stepped to scrap a few random patterns into the earth. "I dabble in trading, it was passed down from my father and his father before him..they both enjoy it when they travel. Wanderlust some call it. I trade pelts, fur items to be worn or used for warmth. Bone jewelry..smoothed stones. Trinkets. I also trade stories." Yes, her grandfathers on both sides had filled her head from a young age with such marvelous stories. Smiling softly Awahi paused in her random 'drawing' in the dirt..wondering for a moment if her sister was up to no good while she was away.

Chroma smiled a little at her question. It reminded him of Jase, when he asked much the same question. "Tea is... Well it's a drink. It's a collection of herbs brewed in hot water, and what results is the tea itself. Not all herbs make good tea, and finding a set of herbs that goes well together takes time. We make such blends. It is... very popular at home, for me, and I introduced my friend to it... and well. Here we are today. We are hoping to introduce it to the rest of the Soquili." He watched her pattern 'doodling', amused. It didn't seem to be a shy action, more of an absent minded thing. He found himself curious as to what was on her mind as she did so. "Ahhh Wanderlust. Yes... I... I know how that is. Sometimes it is hard to stay here, but at least I have the chance to fly the perimeter of our herd lands every so often, so it is not... as bad as it could be. And interesting... You might have things we might consider trading for, if you were interested in trading for our teas..."

A drink. A HOT drink made of herbs? Like the medicinal kind? If so Awahi would not be interested..though she did know of an herb that the stallion might like for this..'drink tea'. Instead of toting her bag of items about while exploring Awahi often left it in a safe place nearby so she could run if a situation turned dangerous. She also did it so her precious trinkets did not get wet should the sky decide to open above her. " I see..I'd like to try it before trading. Allow me to go get my goods. They are but, a few minutes away in a secure location." Bowing daintily the mare hurried off through the trees, moving along a tangled old path that seemed to have not been used in a year or more. Up ahead sat a simple little burrow..it hadn't been used in a few months so she'd stashed her bag there for the day. Tugging said bag free Awahi toted it along with a spring in her step. she'd get to try TEA! How thrilling! This would definitely be a story to tell her grandfathers. Once back where Chroma stood she gave a happy little grin once the bag had been plopped by the stallion's feet. "I've brought my things. I don't have one of father's birds here to help me..so I'll have to be careful. Do you wish to see my items for trade now or later?"

He waited patiently for her to get her goods. She seemed an interested and eager young trader. This should go well. "Excellent. We can examine the goods later, if you feel you are interested in trading with us." He nodded and turned towards home. "It is a bit of a distance this way, on hoof, I will warn you. I hope you do not mind traveling with me for a couple of days?" He paused, and looked a little awkward. "I always forget how much farther it is when one is walking. The downfall of being a flier... Forgetting things." He tapped his hoof, then added "But it will give you the chance to see how we live here. We both forage for our herbs, and also grow them ourselves. To get to where we brew our teas, for drinking and tasting, you will be crossing some of the forest lands with me, and then the river plain where we do our farming. As we go, I can answer questions about it, if you have any... And I can learn a bit about you, which can help me find a blend you might like best." He nodded his head slowly. "Not everyone likes the same blends."

Traveling for a few days sounded marvelous to Awahi. She had no prior pressing engagements and her family would not expect her back for at least another week or more. They knew how easily she became distracted with something new or interesting. Like Chroma. When the stallion noted that she could ask questions a small laughed left the mare once again..cheeks feeling heated with a sudden shy embarrassment. "Oh dear. Do not say such things..or I will surely wear you out with my questioning. Truthfully I have been biting my tongue for most of our encounter. Traveling with you for a few days sounds quite enjoyable!" Bending to once more the mare carefully pulled a tattered length of rope from the bag, with some work she made a loop..using her teeth and claws. Part of her wished she'd brought one of the birds but, the mare managed well enough. With the loop made it was a little wiggle before the bag hung about her neck..this way she could speak freely. "I wonder. Have you heard of an herb called mint? It is quite lovely..I always have herbs for trade. A mare my father knows often has some for trade. Mint, lavender..I do not have my more rare wares. they are too delicate to bring with on every journey. Small clay vessels taken from two legs and some made by father..I fill them with honey from bees and fine sharpened bone needles." Glad to be talking more freely now Awahi followed behind Chroma. A bit embarrassed at the next words she spoke. "Might I ask something? Would it....be odd if I asked to touch the scales upon your back?"

He decided to answer the question regarding the mint first. "Mint? Why yes. I love mint. What variety has she found? I have seen a few, and some make amazing teas! I have been unable to find any, though, so I have been unable to work with our brew-master to make a good mint tea. If you have Mint Seeds, that would be more then amazing! And clay vessels, I can see many uses for them. I think Jase will be happy to see you!" He then grinned at her. "We have time to handle your questions. If I am uncomfortable with one, I will tell you. In all likelihood, the worst will be 'Perhaps once I know you better', mostly for parts of my family history." He paused, thinking about her question for a long silent minute. She wanted to touch his scales? He wondered why. They were just scales as far as he knew, but perhaps she'd never touched scales before? Finally he shrugged. "I've never been asked it before, but go ahead?"

Stepping alongside the stallion seemed easy enough, though the bag tried to swing around she worked to ignore it. "Do not worry..I try to stay away from talking about family history." She herself came from a bloodline that..well was partially..mostly part of the flock. It was a long line..one she was not particularly fond of. Hearing that she could touch made Awahi's heart leap up within her throat..eyes wide like a young foals the mare leaned close. First came a delicate sniff, then a quick wary poke with her nose. Finding they were not at all soft but, not super hard was curious..some were a little prickly but, they didn't seem dangerous. "Fascinating..a-and..your wings?" She could hardly contain her excitement..almost all of her family members were the same general build except for the wolf tails and claws. They all had similar attributes so seeing wings along with scales all on one stallion was so..thrilling. While waiting for a reply on touching his wings she went back to delicately nosing at his scales..enjoying the texture and color so close up. It might look a little creepy to a passerby..what with her rubbing her face against the males back..but, Awahi had never been one to care when it came to curiosity. As long as no one got mad at her, she was good.

"That sounds delightful. Family history can be awkward." He only discussed it with those he felt should know it, generally. When she came close, he stood still, watching her with curiosity. He wondered why she was so fascinated, but wasn't worried about it. As long as she didn't try to harm him, he was fine with it. When she asked about his wings, he blinked a few more times... Those were a bit sensitive, but finally, he shrugged again. "All right? All of them or...?"
