Some days council meetings could go on and on. The meetings were an important part of the pride, he wouldn't deny that, but sometimes he wished he could just take a break from it. Some of his friends had suggested that he take a padawan, in order to keep himself motivated. His time was limited but he also thought the challenge would be worth while. He knew there were a lot of younglings preparing for the next stage in their lives. He stopped at the meditation pond. It would be a decent spot to watch his surroundings to see it he could spot a youngling who could use a mentor. He wouldn't make a decision today of course. Mostly he just wanted to get an idea of who the current younglings were. Once he decided if he wanted to train a padawan, then he would take the time and really examine the younglings and find the best match. Since he joined the council, he hadn't had a padawan. His last padawan became a knight right before he was requested to join the council. He watched some of the younger younglings play games. There was a hint of a smile on his face. He would have his work cutout for him when he decided to train a padawan. Compared to some jedi, he was mostly quiet, only speaking when he needed to. Last time he had a padawan he did feel like he could open up to him. He was sure that it would happen again. Silently, he continued watching the younglings, giving approving nods toward them every now and then.

Another lion watched the playing Younglings as well, even though she was still technically one herself. Shukura smiled slightly as she watched her children play. They were a pawful, the three of them, but she wouldn't have it any other way. They gave her so much joy and delight that it was, without a doubt, the best thing she had ever done with her life. She only wondered if their father knew she had three adorable cubs now. Probably not...
She sighed softly and stood, calling out to her children to come along. Xolile heard her mother's call, and with a shake of her head she trotted off to her side. Xolile had been a bit of a hardheaded and spitfire of a cub and, while that hadn't changed at all, she now had a goal in her life that she wanted to reach: becoming a guardian in the pride. And while she didn't like to follow the rules all that much, she knew she would need to if she ever wanted to grow and become what she wanted. The first step was listening to her mother. "Yeah, mom," she said as she approached the brown lioness. "I'm here, I'm here...good luck gettin' the other two outta there though," she added with a little smirk. Turning her gaze from her mother, a white and brown lion caught her attention. Her eyes widened and she took off in his direction. "Oh...Xo! Where are you going?" Shukura called out, but it was too late. She sighed softly when she spotted her daughter's destination and followed her, granted at a slower pace.Xolile nearly slid to a stop in front of the large male and bobbed her head in respect. "Hello councilman. It's a great day, isn't it?"

Jayen had eyed the young lioness with interest. He gave a bow of his head after her. “It has been pleasant so far. To me it looks like a really good day to play and train. Do you do much training on days like this?” he asked curiously. For younglings he knew it was important not to just have training all the time, but at the same time he knew that when he was one that it was his favorite part. When he was a younglings he didn't really participate in the games unless he had to. He glanced at the older lioness and waved his paw to her. He hoped that she would see that it was alright to approach him. The older lioness had also caught his attention. He thought it was admiral to continue her training even while raising her young. It was a task that many jedi could not handle without help, but she seemed to be doing a fine job. His attention fell back on the younger lioness. He would have to keep both of them in mind when choosing a padawan.

Xo grinned and stopped square before the lion, her paws lined up nicely next to one another. She knew there were quite a few lions and other creatures out there that might be looking for a padawan, and as a youngling she desperately wanted to find one that could help her train up a bit more. Her mother did the best she could, of course, but she really wasn't a fighter. Xo wanted to learn all kinds of moves to help protect herself and the pride should danger ever invade. "Oh yes, I train every day!" she said proudly, puffing up her grey chest in pride. Lots of others her age still preferred to play more than train, and they were even padawans! Ha...she'd show them once she was officially at the next level. Shukura finally reached the two lions and smiled apologetically at Jayen. She had just caught the tail-end of their conversation and nodded to let him know that Xolile had, in fact, been training rather than playing.
"We were going over the Jedi Code," she said with a slight nod. Although she herself still had yet to become a padawan, she knew the code by heart, and Xolile did as well. Of course, no one outside of their family had heard anyone else recite it.
"Perhaps Councilman Jayen would like to hear you say it, Xolile?" she asked more than said, arching a brow with a tiny smile at the male.

Jayen nodded his head. “It is good to train every day, keeps you mentally and physically prepared for the challenges ahead.” He paused for a second. “However you should have fun now and then, while you are still young. Training is important for growth, but so is playing with others.” He felt a bit hypocritical saying this, because when he was younger all he ever did was train. It had worked fine for him, but he didn't want another to miss out on making friends and playing games. Though he was sure that this youngling had friends, being as outgoing as she was. When Shukura arrived he nodded his head to her. “The Jedi code is something that will stick with you for all your years as a jedi.” he said, thinking about it. It was the first thing that came to mind if he ever doubted himself or felt the prescience of the dark side around him. He looked at Xolile. “I would be honored to hear it.”

Xo glanced behind her as her mother appeared and nodded in agreement. It wasn't the most intense training and she had known it since she was a cub, but it was definitely important to keep fresh in her mind. It was the words they lived by, after all, and to forget the code was to forget who you were. As Jayen asked to hear it, she settled down and closed her eyes, the picture of peace and calmness. She took a slow breath through her nose and let it out, the words coming out softly with it. "There is no Emotion, There is Peace There is no Ignorance, There is Knowledge There is no Passion, There is Serenity There is no Chaos, There is Harmony There is no Death, There is the Force." She opened her eyes after she finished, a little grin on her face. "I've known it since I was little. It really helps me stay focused when I start to forget why I'm training." Shukura watched her daughter recite the code, smiling to herself at how calm and serene she looked. She murmured it along with her, much quieter, for her ears alone.
"There is no Emotion, There is Peace There is no Ignorance, There is Knowledge There is no Passion, There is Serenity There is no Chaos, There is Harmony There is no Death, There is the Force "
She finished in time with Xo and applauded her lightly, proud that she was confident enough to show off in front of the councilman. When she had been Xo's age she probably would have been too frightening and nervous to even look at the lion.

Jayen listened careful and watched her as she spoke. He noted how calmly she spoke. Being calm under pressure was a skill that was much needed for a jedi. When making his decision on who his padawan would be, he would be sure to keep this in mind. He also took notice of Shukura and the way she acted once Xolile finished the code, how she applauded for her daughters accomplishment. Being proud of others was a trait Jayen admired. “That was very good. It is a good thing to remember, especially when you get older and the temptation of the dark side starts appearing. You both should be proud of yourselves.” he said with a nod. If he had a chance he would mention their accomplishment to the youngling teacher. He was sure they would be interested in the success of their younglings. It would also give him a chance to talk to them about a potential padawan and get their insight.

Xo grinned and curled her tail in happiness at the praise both from her mother and Jayen. It was nice to be among adults and get their smiles and applause rather than the eye rolls from those younger than her that were padawans. It wasn't her fault she hadn't had the time to recite the code for anyone yet! She was too busy learning how to kick butt and take names. "Thank you," she said primly, the grin still on her face. She nodded and let her expression turn serious, brows furrowing at the mention of the Sith. No way was she ever going to let their temptations win! She couldn't see why anyone would want to be in their part of the pride, anyway. They all liked chaos and destruction, not peace and harmony. "Thank you, Councilmen," Shukura added, her smile proud as she gazed at her daughter. Her children were all a bit behind in terms of growing from younglings to padawans, but she was as well. New adults that came in had to go through the rituals as well, so it wasn't as if it was unheard of for someone their age to still be a youngling. They were starting to take their training seriously, though, and were rising to the occasion.
"It does mean a lot to her that you're here to listen," she added softly as Xo continued to preen, not hearing of her mother's words. "She looks up to the upper pride members greatly."

Jayen gave them a small smile. “You're welcome. I occasionally enjoy spending time with others outside of the council meetings. It is refreshing to spend some time with younglings instead of older members.” He said with a nod. His eyes went to Shukura and nodded. “I am glad I was able to listen.” he spoke quietly. He started to stand up. “I had better get headed back to the council. I would be honored if you allowed me to spend some more time with both of you. Tomorrow afternoon I will be doing some patrolling along the northern border. If you are available I would be interested in having you accompany me. There shouldn't be any danger. The border has been pretty quite lately.” He said. If they did agree, he would be sure to keep them safe. It would also give him a chance to see them on a mission to see if either of them were ready to become padawans.

Xo's eyes brightened as Jayen spoke, and she had to bite her tongue to keep from leaping about and laughing. Going to the border! That was her dream! She wished to be a guard, but her mother had kept her away from the rouge lands and where their lands bordered the Sith's. How was she going to be a good guard if she didn't have any experience? "Yes! I mean yes," she said, trying to keep her cool. She failed pretty badly though, as the first 'yes' had been rather loud. 'I'd be really. Really really. Happy to go with you," she added, trying to keep her paws still. Her tail lashing about behind her gave away her excitement, though. Shukura reached out to lightly place her paw on Xo's tail, a little smile on her muzzle. She nodded in agreement: she'd be more than happy to go with them. She was tired of being a youngling as it was, so a mission with a council member was a blessing.
"We will certainly go with you, Jayen," she said softly, tugging lightly on her daughter's tail to get her to stand. "Come on then, Xo. We'll meet up with him tomorrow." She turned to go, another 'thank you' on her lips.
