Perking her ears up, the mare listened to the soft hooting from the owls not realizing night fell as she slept. She didn’t even feel like moving and if it wasn’t for the impending grumble of her stomach, she would have continued resting. She did better during the nighttime and she found herself keen as well as a deadlier hunter. She could easily sneak up on unsuspecting victims and in the blink of an eye she will be feasting on whatever animal she killed. Right now though, she felt calm at the sounds of the night around her and let out a soft sigh. Maybe it was time for her to go back home to relax for a change instead of being so protective of them. She wanted to have fun sometimes too, but she felt she couldn’t. Not yet anyway.

After moments of arguing with herself, she rose from her perch eyeing the dark forest ground below her and stretched. She let out a yawn and in a matter of seconds, she leaped down onto the ground with a soft thud. She turned her head and left out a low growl at the sound of something rustling in the distance. She was always getting herself into trouble. Even her mother said she had to be more careful. She was always involved in something or another and after that fight with wolves; she nearly lost her life because she accidentally wandered into their nest. She wasn’t going to miss the chance to run and get to safety. How stupid she was at thinking the ground was safe especially at night. So without thinking on it further, she darted away in another direction digging her talons into the ground as she ran.

But then something happened. Something she could have avoided if she was looking in front of herself instead of behind her. She ran right off an incline causing her body to tumble a few feet down and she hit the ground below with a heavy thud. If there was one thing that would describe her, it was clumsy. She still had a lot to learn, but she was slowly getting there. This was just a stupid mistake on her part.

She groaned and lifted her head up seeing that she was in a part she never ventured to before. She slowly rose, nearly screaming out when a pain shot up her leg. She always had the worse luck. She gritted her teeth and sucked it up, limping her way through the dense woods not sure of how far this was going to take her with how much it hurt. Though she was going to hide it as best as she could including her limp because the last thing she needed was someone to think she was injured and she would be an easy target.

She composed herself and ventured slowly, ignoring the pain for now. Her limp disappeared and she just wanted to get back to where she was before.

It felt almost as though he could reach out and touch the stars, they shone so bright and so clear tonight. He knew he could not, knew that it was an impossible height to reach for. But had not stopped him from trying time and again when he was a young foal, or when he was a younger stallion. Nor did it stop him this time. It was the chill of the sky piercing his feathers and fur, and the way his breath grew harder to catch that had him slipping from the sky again. Only those who were truly blessed could fly high enough to reach the distant lights in the sky. Dathúil was an accomplished flier, perhaps even a great one. But he was still no angeni.

Slowly he spiraled downward, letting the wind pull him along as he caught his breath. It was so cold up near where the clouds were born. The air was so fresh, so clear. It was like the sky got born in the highest places, and it was only the older, staler sky that lived down near the ground. How that could ever be enough for anyone, to live on the ground and never feel the pull and whisper of the wind, was beyond Dath. Ever since his first breaths of freedom, still half-tangled in the remnants of his lonely basket, the wide, endless expanse of the horizon was all he had ever desired with every single piece of his soul. Freedom. Nothing could ever mean more than that.

The ground felt too solid when his hooves finally found it beneath the trees, the whisper and tug of the wind through his feathers tempting him to leave it once again. Shaking his head, the stallion folded his wings gently. “I better not,” he murmured, “Not right now.” If he could fly forever, he would. But he could not. He could push himself until his wings quivered and his stomach roared and he was dizzy and thirsty and breathless, and then he could die. Maybe one day he would see how far he could go. Maybe he would see if he could reach to the stars. Maybe he would learn what it was to soar through the rush and power of a storm. But that someday was a ways off yet. He had no intention of being freed from life itself just yet. It was the one thing he chose to allow a hold on him, for now.

Nibbling here and there on the undergrowth, Dath let his wings rest as he continued to slowly explore. He should find a good place to spend the night. After a proper sleep he would be ready to reach for the sky once again. But finding a resting place would have to wait. Swallowing the mouthful of greenery, the stallion looked carefully around in the darkness, listening hard. There was something big in the woods with him, unless that heavy thud had been a falling tree. But there had been no snap-pop of shattering wood. Just the thud. Quietly, Dathúil moved towards the noise. It was better to know then to wander obliviously until trouble caught up. And besides, someone might be hurt.

It did not take him long to draw near to the source of the sound, but if this were the place he saw no one here. The spot was a good place to fall from though, if one were clumsy or simply lacked the luck of wings the incline could spell a bad night. Dath cast about for a moment, but he was no hunter and he could not find and follow an unknown trail in the darkness under the trees. “Hello?” he called finally, letting the wind have his caution. If he was about to be in trouble, he could always lose most pursuers to the skies. His wings were not yet that tired. “Is there someone else here, or have I finally lost my sense?” Dath asked, then chuckled to himself. If no one were there, then there would be no one to answer his silly question.

The young mare heard the sound of another, which caused her to stop her movements and look behind her. She didn’t see anyone, but knew it came from that direction. At first she didn’t know if it would be a good idea to even go looking for the source in the condition she was in at the moment. What if they attacked her? She walked back from where she came trying to find the source of the voice hiding the fact that she was injured just in case it was indeed a predator. It was hard and the pain was a tough thing to forget. She had learned to adapt and toughen up where she needed to. It was the only way she could really survive for so long on her own. As she approached the spot where she fell, she saw the winged stallion and the first thing she looked at was his feet. Hooves, thankfully. There was no way this stallion was a cold killer like she was. “Are you looking for someone or are you looking for the one that had just screamed?” She asked with her eyes narrowing into small slits.

She wasn’t all that friendly to those she first meets and in her condition she just wanted to find somewhere to rest. Sadly, her curiosity always over powered every other kind of need in her body except for hunger. “If you’re looking for the latter then it was I.” She told him flicking her tail behind her lean form. Her father always told her to be on your guard no matter who you were talking to because her kind was hated so much. She wasn’t a part of the flock nor would she ever be, but she had clear signs that she was part harpy. It also didn’t help that she appeared to have Skinwalker blood in her with the tail and fangs she was sporting, but she was proud of who she was. “If you think I’m going to harm you, I’m not. I do not eat my own kind.” She said softly to the stallion and a part of her wished she was able to fly like him. No one in her family really had wings except for a select few. They were mostly a grounded herd.

She stepped a little bit closer, eyeing his features and his colors. He had such a pretty blue and a pretty orange, but she didn’t think she could ever get away with something that striking. She preferred being monochrome with very little color. “You should be more careful in these parts. There are a lot of dangers out there that are more vicious and cruel then me.” She mentioned to him and still wasn’t sure why he was there other then to seeing who fell. Her and these random encounters were becoming a little bit of a hassle now.

Sorry for slow, holidays...

Dath was perhaps a bit surprised by the lovely mare who flitted out of the shadowy forest like some unknown spirit of grace and moonlight. She looked different from most that he had seen, and not simply in the delightful way that each soquili is utterly unique. She was truly a rare gem, with her soft, fluffy wolf's tail and her sleek limbs ending in those vicious talons. If she was a predator, she was one fit to make the nightmare of being hunted touch into the realm of dreams.

"I was searching for the source of the cry, yes," the stallion answered, not the least bit put off by her narrowed eyes, save for the pity of their lovely color being hidden by it. His head canted slightly to one side as he watched her, the way she moved and spoke was not at all soft. Even the expression she wore did lend itself well to her ferocious appearance, narrowed eyes, taloned limbs, sharp fangs... she really was the image of a pretty predator."I am glad to see you are not in much distress. Still, if there is any way I might be of assistance, I'm certain that it would be my pleasure to be of some use to a beauty like yourself." His voice was warm and sincere, it almost always was. He was genuinely pleased to meet most anyone, and he was genuinely enthralled with the beauty of the world, and all those in it. He meant what he said, however it might sound.
PostPosted: Sat Jan 04, 2014 8:10 pm

Was this stallion serious? She had never encountered someone who complimented her on her beauty and even though it bothered her, she kind of liked it. She would never mention that she did or show it and would keep the whole thing a mystery. “As you can see I’m more then fine.” She was lying and hiding the fact that she had a limp, but she wasn’t going to let this stallion see that. She didn’t know if she would be able to hunt until her leg was at least better through a lot of rest and she was beginning to get rather hungry. Could she even ask this stallion to catch her a rabbit? Would he freak out or actually man up to the task? For someone who compliments women he should be more then man enough and maybe he would shock her a little bit with his answer.

“Actually there is something you can help me with..” She paused and examined him a little more as she took a few steps in his direction. Her small fangs glistening in the light and her talons digging into the soft soil beneath her. “I’m rather hungry and I really want a rabbit. I can’t hunt it myself because the fall kind of banged up my body. If your not man enough for that then berries will suffice..we just have to find them.” She was being a little harsh on him and it was with good reason. She didn’t like anyone flirting with her and this stallion was a little too confident. She was just going to knock him down a few pegs.

“A rabbit?” Dath repeated, plainly puzzled by her response. At least he wasn't apparently put off by it. A rabbit. She was hungry and wanted a rabbit. Well, she had talons like a hawk, which ate rabbits, and a tail like a wolf, which also ate rabbits. And she had fangs, which should have been a good clue that she ate meat. “I've never hunted a rabbit before,” he said finally, looking down at his hooves with a small frown. “I'm not sure I could catch one, I don't have your lovely talons or your pretty fangs. But,” he said, his tone brightening as he looked back up from where his gaze had shifted to her feet, “I do know we won't catch anything just standing here. They avoid noise, don't they?”

And with that he picked a direction and started walking, with notable care not to step on anything particularly loud, like dried twigs or fallen leaves. He was not silent, but he was definitely trying. “Is there a better way to go about this then walking until we see one?” he asked after only a few steps, gazing back over his shoulder at the pretty predator. And she was stunning. He might spend most of his time in the daylight, but the night with its inviting darkness and the cool cast of moonlight did her form many favors. Favors it probably didn't even need.

“Or, ah, are you too sore to join me? I could always try to bring it back for you if you would prefer to rest,” he added, turning completely around to face her. His eyes, previously only admiring, were now filled with concern. It would be so callous of him to make her come along when she had just admitted to being injured!

XxXPandamoniumXxX
This can only be hilarious, I seriously doubt he is capable of catching anything but... oh boy xD
PostPosted: Sat Jan 04, 2014 9:45 pm

She felt the urge to laugh at the stallion because she didn’t see him catching a rabbit and actually handing it over to her. He was catching on though and honestly didn’t think he would have. He was at least smart. “You are right. I’m quite shocked considering your appearance and the fact you like to flirt with those you do not know. I could kill you if I wanted to.” That wouldn’t be logical considering she was starving right now. She didn’t want to scare him away because then she would be out of luck. If anything he could be of some use to her. “You’re right…let’s be quiet and track us down a rabbit. I will do the killing, but you have to catch it or at least lead it towards me.” She didn’t know if that would even work, but a part of her found this completely amusing. He was actually quite fun to be around and there was no way in hell she was going to tell him that.

In order to catch one without tracking it meant they would have to wait around in some brush for a good while until one passed by. She didn’t know if she really wanted to get all cozy with this stallion at the moment. Not if he just complimented her. “We will have to wait for a rabbit to come by. That means we have to hide in that bush over there. Which I don’t like the sound of.” She didn’t know this stallion and he probably would just mess things up. “Or..we could just go find some berries.” She was fine with either option, but it still didn’t mean she wouldn’t prefer one to the other.

He was concerned about her? That was a first. “I’m fine..” She muttered still hiding her limp and that throbbing pain it brought with each movement. “Let’s just find some berries…maybe a rabbit will magically appear while we are on the way.” She told him flicking her tail in slight aggravation. She hated showing weakness and this stallion was slowly beginning to figure out that she was injured. “What is your name anyway?” She could at least know his name. After all they were probably going to be together for a good while or at least until she stopped being as hungry.

“I'm sure you could do some serious damage if you chose to,” Dathuíl replied mildly. It wouldn't be the first time something with claws and fangs came after him. “But if I avoided everyone I met, I would miss out on meeting so many new and interesting individuals. I would sooner take the risk than lose the chance to have met you.” He quieted as she spoke, and waited with contented patience as she outlined and dismissed different methods of hunting for rabbits. He didn't have anything to add when she finally muttered that she was fine and, apparently, gave up on teaching him to hunt rabbits. Plants were far easier to come by, food that moved always struck him as incredibly difficult to come by. Grass was grazing enough for him, with the occasional fruits to sweeten the meal. He took his variety in the places he went and the people he met, food was predominantly just to keep him going. But that didn't mean he needed it to be dull or repetitive.

“Oh, I would disagree, you are more than just 'fine',” he said with a smile as he turned to follow, letting her take the lead but keeping pace somewhere beside her shoulders. He was fairly certain she would be bothered if he walked behind her, most predators seemed to like to keep things where they could see or smell or hear them. “You really are unique. I've never met someone quite like you before.” His tail flicked as hers did, not in annoyance so much as her motion drawing it to his mind. “My name is Dathúil, but you may call me as you like. It makes little difference to me. Have you a name you would prefer I call you, pretty huntress?” the winged stallion asked amiably. It took a lot more than a little grumbling or threats to shake his good mood.

Yes she could do some serious damage. Her claws were there for just show and she would attack anyone she wanted to if the need did arise. “Well I suppose you are right. There have been some interesting individuals that I have met and if I didn’t initiate the conversations then I wouldn’t have been able to speak with them. As you can see I prefer to speak with no one.” She didn’t even know if that was true anymore because she was speaking with him. Someone that she barely knew and someone that wasn’t really family, but he didn’t make her uneasy like all the other stallions did. He was calming in a way. If she could, she would have fed herself on the plants around them, but she didn’t like that. She wanted someone that was a little hearty or at least savory. “So which should we do? Hunt a rabbit or find some berries?” She asked the stallion flicking her tail and tilting her head at the stallion thinking they should just find some berries. She began to walk slowly towards the direction where she had found berries all the time. “Let’s get some berries. I feel as though it will be the easiest for us.” She mentioned to him.

“I’m more then just fine? What is that suppose to mean?” She asked him looking over at him with a glare. “Like me? I don’t even know why I’m that special. I’m simply a mare that has the features of a wolf.” She never really found it that special, but her family kept telling her she was. “I’m Chosovi, but you can call me Cho for short. It doesn’t really matter to me.” She shrugged her shoulders as they slowly wandered through the darkening woods before hearing his comment. Pretty Huntress? She snapped her jaws at him hoping to get a bite, but she missed. “You better watch it or your going to have a nice little gash on your body.” She growled flicking her tail in slight annoyance.

There was something about this stallion though. Something that was a little too delightful, but she could handle it. As long as he wasn’t getting any other ideas and she would put those ideas down. “I’m assuming you have a lot of children with the way you flirt. Are my assumptions correct?” She asked raising a brow as she looked over at him.

“Well, if we see any rabbits let me know what to do and I'll gladly try. But, I must admit, I'm much more skilled at catching wild berries,” the winged stallion said with a laugh. “They're a bit slower, and don't hear very well.”

The snap he wasn't quite expecting, but either she didn't really mean it or his reflexes were still good enough to get him out of the way. He paused then, one wing partially unfurled, but, when she simply continued walking with a growled warning for him, he let his wing fold back against his flank and resumed his relaxed pace near her side.

“I haven't any sinister designs or ill intentions towards you, Chosovi,” Dath assured her, “Truly. I am quite content to enjoy the company and conversation of a strong, beautiful mare. Why is it that being called such things troubles you?” he asked, because surely the snap had to come from somewhere and as he hadn't been hostile towards her. “Do you think yourself undeserving of such words?”

Her next question didn't catch him off guard, and he smiled at her while she looked at him with her brow raised. “I do have at least a few,” he told her, not the least bit ashamed or concerned. “I'm not sorry for their lives either. I don't keep the fact that I won't stay long a secret from anyone I spend time with. Some don't mind having little ones of their own, and some don't mind having them all to themselves.” Everyone had different things that they wanted. His was to travel freely, without any restraints or obligations. So long as no one interfered with what he wanted, then he was happy to oblige them as much as possible regarding what they wanted. “What about you?” he asked, “Any little baskets that are going to need some rabbit hunting lessons?”

If Chosovi could laugh she probably would have, but her face remained serious and her eyes continued looking forward. She was more focused on finding something to eat and not on his antics. “Then berries it is. I’m not really in the mood to hunt unless we just happen to come across a dead animal.” She shrugged walking at his side looking over at him. “You better not and they do trouble me. I prefer you think of me as an equal and would rather you not compliment my features. There is no need for it. I know I’m beautiful and I know I’m strong. There is no need to tell me unless it’s your way of trying to get something else out of me.” She snorted finding him to be a little annoying at the moment. “Why would I think myself as undeserving? I am a hated creature and one that can be feared. Stallions even fear me because they think I belong to the flock and have come to capture them. Do you know how irritating that is to be associated with such an ugly thing? How could anyone think I’m a flock mare..” She growled getting angry at the thought of it. She didn’t want to be associated with that.

She knew he had children. She could just tell. “There is nothing wrong with that. Children are a blessing and should be treated as such.” She told him as she thought about the possibility of having children herself. She didn’t want children, at least not yet. “I don’t know if I want children. I have none now and I don’t know if I will ever want any. Children will just hold me back and get on my nerves. Unless they make themselves useful..I don’t see a point to it.” She said flicking her tail and didn’t know if she would even be a good mother. “But if I did have children…I don’t think I would ever let the father see them..” She felt she was incapable of love and didn’t really think she would ever love another. “Do you want more children?” She felt as thought this stallion was the big family kind of guy.

“Just because I think you're beautiful does nothing to make you less than me, nor does it necessarily make you greater. I say as much because too few ever voice such truths, especially to those who need to hear them,” the wind replied, “If hearing such things about your physical attributes troubles you, even though you already believe yourself deserving of such praise, I apologize. I haven't known you long enough as yet to find other truths to admire about you.” He did not add anything when she spoke of the Flock with such frustration. That it must be difficult to be judged wrongly, that it must be hurtful and infuriating, had already been said by Chosovi herself. Besides, she had plenty of other conversation topics for him.

Her thoughts on children were interesting, not quite the usual attitude but, as he had always noticed before, each and every individual was unique. “I'm neutral on the matter of wanting more children,” Dath said with a small shrug. “If someone else is looking for little ones, I'm happy to oblige, but I travel. I can't stay in one place. I don't want the responsibility of looking after someone. I want to be free.” Just as she did, it seemed. A pity she had not been blessed with wings. There was no freedom quite like the endless sky. “Some see a point to it. A family with someone loved is its own sort of treasure, especially for those who prefer stability to staying unfettered forever.” He kept his eyes open for signs of fruit, or berries rather as that had been her preference. It was too bad he hadn't had time to explore before hearing her shout, he might have been able to save her time and walking if he had already come across such a bush.

This stallion already was irritating her in the worst possibly way, but she tried her hardest not to attack him. She didn’t need his death on her hands. “I suppose, but you also don’t have to tell me I’m beautiful either.” She told him and it was one of the things she wasn’t use to and one thing she really didn’t want to be bothered with. “How do you know I even need to hear them?” She asked the stallion raising her brow only slightly at him. Was her self-esteem really that noticeable? She never thought she was beautiful. She always thought she was a wretched mutt of a animal to the point where she didn’t think highly of herself and it showed most of the time. She would do things carelessly without thinking and then regret it later when she had cuts all over her. “Your right. You haven’t known me long enough to be saying anything like that to me.” She snapped at him growling under her breath to show him that she wasn’t messing around.

She didn’t agree with his words at all, but she could understand them. She loved being free herself and didn’t know if she would ever find someone that would leave an impression on her. She walked slowly to him keeping her eyes peeled for some kind of food though it didn’t seem to be happening. “I can understand those feelings. I am more of a free mare myself..though if I did have children I would definitely stick around to raise them..though..I feel as though I will be a pretty harsh mother.” She honestly didn’t know how she would be because things always changed when one had children. “You never know though..You might end up finding someone to settle down with..things can change at any point in life.” She said to him flicking her tail before finally finding a small berry busy. She wandered over to it and snorted. “Finally..” She looked over to the stallion and let out a small yawn. Maybe now would be good for a nap? “I should be on my way soon…I need to sleep then feed and I’m sure you wouldn’t want to stick around for either of them.” She looked into the distance wondering if she could managed to climb up a tree to get a good rest. She always hated sleeping on the ground.
