As far as youma go it wasn't very scary. The small thing often escaped its dusty fate because it was so low to the ground and quick for a monster. The squirrel could, at times, blend in when up a tree and in an alley it could pass for a rat or a small cat depending on how well it managed to hide itself. Yep, this youma was sort of lucky in the scheme of things and had feasted on many a poor schmuck's energy before.
KD was walking home from art class, pepper spray in her pocket at easy reach and a smile on her lips. She was usually smiling, dreaming of things she liked to do or had done before. She wasn't new to Destiny City and was not easily spooked by the things around her. Her motto seemed to be dream big but be practical. That was why she carried pepper spray. She liked her city but she didn't trust it, not with terrorists on the loose and all the strange happenings that went on.
Anyway, she wasn't looking for trouble tonight. She was just looking for a nice walk in the cold snow and a few good thoughts about the canvas she was slowly filling with beautiful things. Painting was her ultimate form of expression and there was nothing about the teen that didn't love it, passionately.
Though they were close together, though walking in different directions, the youma spotted Ulane first and made excited chittering sounds. It darted toward his legs, a tactic it had used many times, to try and trip the poor guy because people on the ground were easier to feed from and didn't run away so quickly.

Geesh.. Everything just seemed to be weighing down on Ulane this week! Finals at university, term papers due at the end of the week, sixty grades for music music class needed to be entered in.. There was just too much going on for him to focus too much on anything while he walked home except the music in one ear, and the warm container of hot cocoa he had made for himself at the school before he had left for the evening.
Walking home in this weather was terrible. It was freezing out, and lightly falling snow, though lovely was not welcomed on the young teacher's nose. How he missed his once long, luxiouous brown-blonde hair that had reached near his waist at one point. He had never felt cold back then! Since the fight a while back with the fiery red haired senshi and her supposed shadow, it was slowly growing back, just not fast enough to save his backside from the slight wind that drifted through the area. From the tips of his ears to the small of his back he was freezing!
So absent he was while lost in his thoughts, the man had not yet realized the chittering creature that came before him. It would not be as if it was the first youma he had encountered; he could clearly remember the lovely red-haired senshi of song who had rescued him from a rather foul not all that long ago, but the little beast went unnoticed. Up until the moment where it collided into the back of the man's knees. If only he had been listening he could have heard the sound of feet in the snow! And yet it was too late, and he was taken down faster than he could even realize he was falling. A brief moment was spared to thank the stars that snow was decently soft, but the moment passed and he immediately tried to get off of his stomach, getting the beast off of him.
"HELP!!" He called out, unable to pull out the small umbrella he kept for a weapon. You would be surprised at how well a small club-like umbrella could be effective against a beast like this! But flat out on his stomach with no way to escape? He was in no way going to come out of this unharmed.
"HELP ME!! IT'S A MONSTER!!"

KD heard the cry and though she would have been better served to turn around and run in the opposite direction she couldn't just leave someone there to be attacked. She didn't actually believe that it was a monster like the cry suggested, and she was wrong about that, but it had to be something and that she believed. She ran ahead, her steps echoing in the snow as it crunched under her feet. She covered a lot of ground pretty quickly, her skirt billowing.
"Hold on! I'm coming!"
She skidded to a stop when she reached him, seeing the squirrel thing on his back and seeing that it was not, in fact, a squirrel. It was a monster. The pepper spray in her hand didn't seem like it was going to be so helpful now. She didn't know what she was going to do now to help the poor guy who looked older than she was but not by much. She let out a shriek that the youma heard and looked her way but it didn't move. The guy underneath it was too tempting a victim to leave.
Caydence looked down the alley and saw a light shining. It wasn't too far, a bow laying on top of a trash can lid. She recognized it and, without thinking, grabbed it. She was on her way back when a flash of light surrounded her. She was lifted an inch into the air and that same glow surrounded her. When her feet touched down she was no longer Caydence Brendon but Sherwood, Page of Earth...with a bow and no arrows.
She blinked and had no idea what to do for a minute. She forgot Ulane entirely and just stood there.

Someone was coming up towards him quickly, and that was great! She could help him out, atleast enough to distract the creature so that he could perhaps get off of his stomach and pin the other one down. Yet as quickly as she came, she left, and soft, muffled curses came raining out of Ulane's mouth. What kind of person could leave another human being out and struggling like this! No, she must have been trying to find a weapon or something! Yes, that had to be it! No one in their right mind could be so heartless!
And yet, she didn't return, and Ulane continued to fight, managing to get off of his stomach and onto his back, though the monster still grappled with him, clawing and swiping at his face. There were no opportunities to free himself, not with the beast trying so eagerly to take every ounce of energy from him. The young man could already feel his consciousness being affected by the draining.
"I SAID HELP!! PLEASE!!" He managed to cry out again, attempting to claw at the beast's eyes, with a slight shimmer of hope that someone would be near by, someone tastier than he was, so that he could get his own weapon out.

Sherwood might have still be standing there if Ulane hadn't given another shout. This costume, the bow in hand, it all felt new and strange and at the same time familiar. She couldn't muse on it for very long before she was compelled to go back and help the poor guy laying on his stomach. She stopped short next to him to a growl from the little youma rodent that she ignored. She knew she needed to help him however she could. It wasn't just a desire; it was a need.
"It's ok. I'm here. I've got you."
A bow was something KD knew how to wield. She'd been practicing and attending Miss Goddard's summer camp since she was seven. However, it was hard to use a bow without any arrows and she certainly didn't see any about. Having no other option she simply turned it around and used it like a golf club to smack the little monster off Ulane's back and against the wall. It's claws ripped his shirt as it went sailing.
"Here, let me help you."
She offered her hand to him to help him to his feet. She thought he'd surely know her as the person that was there before and didn't know how she'd explain the costume. It didn't seem rational. The youma was not so easily defeated, though, and turned to charge again. She swung he bow like a bat out of instinct and caught the thing in the stomach, sending it to crumbling before it landed. She shuddered.
"What the hell?"

Thank whoever it was who controlled the universe for this young woman who had come to his rescue, finally! Beggars couldn't be choosers, but he was glad that this woman was someone kind enough to save him. Once the beast was knocked from his back, he more then happily took the woman's hand, standing up and brushing the dirt from his clothing. Not that it mattered anyway; with the giant shreds in the back of his shirt, he would have to throw away the garments anyway. Such a pity it was, but life was FAR more important that some silly old shirt!
Before Ulane could properly thank the woman, he saw the beast come back, and scrambled for his bag to get this weapon he held. Yet before he could reach it, the girl gave it another hard smack, shattering it into glittering awkward dust. Ah, yes, he forgot how pretty the things were once they were dead. Oh, that sounded more morbid than he had intended, and Ulane shook his head, trying to get that peculiar thought out of his mind.
"That thing, that monster.. Geesh, I do not know what they are called, but it is not the first time I've encountered them. It got me by surprise, is all!" He seemed so very unphased by the girl's appearance, and why should he be? If what lovely Sailor Maia said was true, he should not have to worry about anyone who wore white. And this one.. That was definitely a white shirt, as far as he could tell.
"Are you a senshi too? Then again, there's no ribbons or bows or flair or shirt so.. I have no idea.. But where did you come from just now anyway?" This wasn't the girl who called to him before, was it?

One the youma broke into dust Sherwood was in no better position to understand what the hell had just happened. All of a sudden she was a superhero and though she knew her name was Sherwood (and where had that come from?) she didn't know much else. Except that she was of Earth which lead to the disconcerting question of where else she could be of. Things even felt different to her once she slowed down enough to notice them.
"I don't...I don't know." Was all she could stammer in response to his questions. "What's a senshi?"
She'd come from the alley but was she not supposed to tell that? Was he not supposed to know she was a superhero? Not that she'd done anything particularly heroic but still. There had to be some way to justify suddenly being dressed in...this. She finally took a moment to glance down at herself. It was certainly nothing she'd ever pick for herself to wear day to day but maybe that was the point. Quite suddenly the experience frightened her and she wanted to go home.
She paled.
"You've seen those things before?"

"You don't know? Wait.. Wait, are you new then? To this whole fiasco of a world we live in now? I suppose that makes sense.. But simply put, a senshi is a person with powers who are here to help fight things like that." Ulane's hand gestured to the area that the monster had once occupied. She seemed so startled, so she MUST have been knew to all of this.. And that poor girl.. It was such a shame, she seemed so young, too young to be put into a world like this. "Those things are all over the place at night. They run through places, trying to kill people, or something of the sort. But the people like the Senshi, or some Knights, I think, are here to stop them. It's so very complicated, but I don't think this is the place to actually talk about it. What with the chance of more monsters being around.. Come on, let's get to somewhere safer. Can you power down? Some people don't really like the idea of powering down and revealing their true identities, but if.. Hrm, if you're as lost as I think you are, then maybe this can help some."

"How do you know all of this?"
He didn't seem to be a part of it because if he was why couldn't he have destroyed the little monster himself. Not that Sherwood was in any position to turn down free explanations, mind you. She listened intently and tried to imagine what he was saying. People with power...She felt power but didn't think she was a senshi. No, that seemed wrong to her. Sherwood considered for a long while before bringing herself to answer.
"I think...I think I'm a Page, whatever that is."
She did try to power down, as he said. It took some doing, maybe she didn't do it right, but eventually the bow and outfit disappeared to reveal the girl he'd seen before. Just a girl who had, before that moment, been experiencing a very ordinary night. This was all very disorienting for her and she wavered on her feet ever so slightly.
"I don't understand. Are you a senshi?"
And, in true Caydence style she powered down in front of him breaking rules she didn't know about and trusting someone she just met because he acted like she could trust him. It could have been a ruse for all she knew.

"How do I know all of this? I guess I have a knack at being nosy. A dear friend of mine is powered and I just kinda sorta.. Learn all that I can? Yeah, I think being nosy is the best answer." Ulane couldn't shake off that odd feeling that came from experiencing an attack. It wasn't fear, it was anxiousness, a dire need to find a place with more light, with safe walls where he could finally relax at. Still, he tried to smile for her, she probably was far more out of it than he was himself.
"A page? I don't exactly know too many pages, but.. I think It's safe to say that you're not a senshi. From what I've learned, Pages are.. Like.. Huh.. Like the guardians to a planet or something of the sort. Like I said, I can explain more of what I know when we aren't in the creepy part of town. I'm not a senshi or a page or anything. I'm just a nosy guy who knows from others." As she powered down, he made a little 'oh!' expression, recognizing her as the girl who had come to aid him to begin with! How pleasant was that? At least he knew that the girl wasn't so heartless to abandon him when the attack began. Suddenly, however, he began to feel guilty about persuading her to power down so quickly. If she was new to all this, she needed a friend, at the very least! Not that he would mention about her identity being a secret right now. Naw, not until they were safe, and out of harms way.
"Come on this way, there's a diner this way. It's nothing special, but they have a phone there. We can get you a cab home, so you won't have to walk."
