Description: A trader has required Kirigakure's services in order to be ensured safe passage to Mokuhi village in the Land of Forests. A boat will be taken to the Land of Honey where the squad is then to proceed on foot to the destination.

Danger Assessment: Very little criminality is reported in the area as the population is very low and steadily occupied. The Land of Forests is home to a few dangerous animals but very few attacks have been recorded along the roads. Mission has been qualified as C-Rank and client has been charged accordingly.

Notes: The low risks involved with the mission are probably why the client only asked for very basic level protection, and even insisted to that effect. A suitable squad for this assignement would probably either a few fresh chuunins that need field experience or, even though client insisted it wasn't necessary, a genin squad supervised by an experienced instructor.

Wage: 50 ryo per member, no bonuses or incentives have been offered by the client. No surprises there given the character...

Hiru was ecstatic at the idea of going on this mission. He had only been informed of the various details surrounding it maybe an hour before they left, but it was ridiculously straightforward compared to these insanely complex Black Ops mission he had done pretty much since he had been pulled from the "normal" shinobi circle straight out of the academy. Hiru considered himself lucky, his nomination to the Swordsmen of the Mist and the freak experimentation conducted on him that implanted him with the swift release now made him far too high profile for the Ops.

Plus, he had been granted an honor he had looked forward to all his life: leading a genin team. Even though he wasn't a full-fledged jonin himself, he had been entrusted with the safety of some of Kiri's brightest future hopes, and he certainly wasn't going to disappoint.

This mission actually had everything. The boat ride would allow for everyone to relax a bit. Then, they'd have the go through a forest, which would allow him to go over basic survival skills. And finally, they'd get to visit a foreign village to oversee a mercantile transaction, one of the cornerstones of the ninja system.

There was, however, only one problem Hiru could find with this mission...

User Image
"Hey Scale-Boy, if you're going to keep smiling at the captain of the boat all day to keep him from leaving, you might as well stay here! There's no way I'm paying for your fancy sword anyway!", grunted the client, obviously irritated with the Swordman's presence.

User Image
"I've explained many times you're not paying for my presence on this mission sir, I'm here simply to oversee your escort's work.", Hiru answered, getting more uncomfortable by the second on this mission. "And I don't even have scales...", he whispered, a bit depressed.

Turning back to his team, he addressed them: "First things first, our client needs to know who the people he's entrusting his life to are. Everyone, turn by turn, introduce yourselves to this gentleman."

Mizuiro was listening to the client and pondering why this mission was accepted. The first thing he hears out of his old mouth is some insult towards the appearance of his fellow clansman. He wasn't even sure if he should tolerate it or not, though, it seemed that it was ignored by his clansman, so he would do the same. But if heard anything like that again, he might accidentally let the old man trip over and break something. The old man wasn't worth the time, but it was too late now, he was here, might as well carry on and get this job over and done with.

He walked up beside Hiru and introduced himself quite plainly. "I am Mizuiro Hoshigaki. I will be escorting you." Mizuiro then just went back to where he was sitting, and waited for the boat ride to end. He didn't even wait for any reply from the old man, he wasn't exactly in the mood to be polite.

Sakura had come along for this group as her first mission, and she was sure of one thing at the very least - this was going to be a long, tiresome, journey. She had just met their team leader, but had no idea who he was as of yet, so she simply assumed that he was a normal chuunin or jonin instructor that happened to take her in under his guidance. And he was just fine, too. Yuki had no qualms with him at all, save for perhaps his slightly blue skin, which her teammate also seemed to share. Perhaps it was common to die their skins blue in Kiri? Shrugging, she focused on the real toublemaker to be who would most likely make the mission harder than necessary - their client.

"Hey Scale-Boy, if you're going to keep smiling at the captain of the boat all day to keep him from leaving, you might as well stay here! There's no way I'm paying for your fancy sword anyway!" the client quipped at their team leader. Apparently he was simply worried that he couldn't pay for the expenses. 'Scale-Boy' explained the situation, but the merchant still seemed a bit distressed at having to be escorted by an extra member. She wasn't so impressed at the merchant's slightly bratty behavior, but as he was the client that would pay for it all, she really couldn't say anything to the man's face, although her first impression of him was not very pleasant, to say the least.

Still, she was giddy. It was her first mission, and to top it off, it was a C ranked one. She hadn't even gotten to do D ranks yet, and now she was suddenly being dropped off at Kiri, only to be plunged into a C rank. Hopefully she wouldn't make any mistakes and end up being a weight to all her teammates.

Prompted by their overlooker, the pink haired child stepped up and introduced herself politely in a quiet tone. "Ohaiyo, toimaru-san. My name is Sakurayuki. I will be escorting you for this mission. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu." she finished, bowing slightly before stepping back to where she had been standing.

Batsu used his acrobats to climb in a nearby tree. After doing so he just started jumping from tree-to-tree in order to get to the predetermined meeting area. No sooner than he got there, he heard the banter between Hiru and the merchant, who didn't seem to be the most friendly of clients. This within itself made Batsu roll his eyes and look off as Hiru mentioned a formal introduction.

"Oh great, a seemingly complete jerk. I swear if I didn't have to serve every Kiri ninja and affiliate therein, he'd be bleeding out of his mind the first time he's hit."
Batsu then sighed and looked down upon the others waiting until the female finished introducing herself before he made his presence known.

The male spoke from the tree he was in, which was no more than ten feet from everyone else. "Batsu Watanabe... medic... I will also be escorting you on this journey.

Mission gathering point introductions kirigakure

Shiro walked along briskly towards the meeting point for her first real mission. She'd been waiting around for an assignment for quite some time since meeting all of the requirements for graduation at the academy. Eventually she was plucked from the academy and put on a waiting list for a genin squad that needed a replacement. Apparently she was instead selected to be sent to Kiri as part of some diplomatic program. As part of that program she was now going to be working on a mission with shinobi from Kirigakure. The details were kind of scant but the gist was that they would be escorting some guy. It's not what I expected to be doing but at least it's a mission. Shiro thought to herself. Up ahead she could see the rest of the group and overheard them speaking while she approached. Once she close enough to be heard with an inside voice, the tomboy introduced herself " Shironaegi Inechi, genin of Konohagakure here to assist." she said to the group. To those whom had never met her they would probably be confused about her since she was very boyish looking and her clothes quite masculine particularly how they copied the second hokage's outfit. Minus the katana of course. Turning to Sakurayuki, "It's been a while Yuuu ki-chan." she said with a rising intonation on the yu.

Sakura strained her neck to see a nin jumping from the trees, who introduced himself as a medic, who seemed pretty lax, but still managed to remain professional. He looked pretty cool, leaning against the trees, but with this visibility, it was a wonder how he navigated around the treetops to begin with. Either way, having a medic on the team was always good news, especially in a pinch. But the real surprise came later, when another genin walked in, one that appeared to be quite familiar. Too familiar, in fact, to be coincidence.

"Shironaegi Inechi, genin of Konohagakure here to assist. It's been a while Yuuu ki-chan."

Sakura turned around, her mouth slightly agape, still unable to fully believe it was her ex-classmate from Konoha. But that was the Shiro she knew alright, down to the last detail. Strange, she almost had this urge to cry, although she didn't feel sad at the least. No, she was so happy that she herself was trying not to believe this sight at first.

"Sh...Shiro-kun..?" she managed to murmur, rubbing her eyes lest her eyesight was failing her. But when she cleared her eyes, Shiro was still there, as real as ever. "Shiro-kun!!" Sakura said, smiling, the disbelief now replaced with delight obvious on her face. With a joyous laugh, she pounced on the unsuspecting white haired friend and hugged her tight. "When did you come? I thought you were still in Konoha!" she exclaimed quietly, in a soft tone, untangling herself from her friend, before hugging the Konoha genin again. "This is such a surprise! But... what are you doing in Kiri? Weren't you... you know, what happened to the genin squad repacement?" Yuki asked, burning with curiosity. Whatever happened, she was still glad that they were together in this mission.

....Well, perhaps this journey wouldn't end up too badly after all.

Batsu eventually jumped down from the tree he was in and landed with a small thud... mid-way between the females conversing and the boat where the Hoshigaki currently was. Technically, EVERYONE should've been there so the mission could start. The sooner it started, the sooner it would finish. So as Batsu adjusted his medical bag on his shoulder, he casually headed over to the two ninja which, ironically, he had never seen before. Ever.

With Batsu being the way he was, he started to analyze the two en route to them. The one named Sakurayuki seemed like a sweet, young kunoichi. Nothing too out of the ordinary, which was definitely a good thing. Shironaegi was different story. Sure, they seemed chill personality-wise, which was also good. Anatomically speaking, she looked feminine but looking at how she carried herself spoke masculine... and the fact that Sakura referred to them as the ambiguous term "kun" didn't help his case at all. So the best way to handle this, in his mind, was to avoid gender-specifics until he got to know them better.

Overall the two seemed fairly cool. However, these were first impressions so nothing was definite and his attitude towards them were subject to change. Time would tell but for now he felt the need to get everyone corraled and on the boat. So as he approached the two, he slid his hands in his pockets and spoke.

"So I hate to interrupt but we should go ahead and board the boat. The sooner we get this mission over with, the better off we'll be."
Batsu then stepped out of the way so the two go ahead. He would follow behind them.

Jinichi stayed off to the side of the group, obviously a part of it, but still seeming separate. As everyone had introduced themselves to the customer, he had simply bowed and stated his name, his light grey eyes never leaving the man's own. He wore a simple long black coat, appearing one size too large for him, as the sleeves went past his hands, his soft, almost female, face wore a hard unwavering expression. Though he showed no natural emotion through his face, inside he was pure excitement, and worry. He was excited about this, his first mission, yet he was worried. He, and several other orphaned children, had been raised separate from the rest of the village. He shook his head, best not to brood about his childhood now. The Rida had assigned him to this mission personally, and he didn't want to fail her.

Hiru was happily surprised. He was actually meeting most of this team for the first time, and quickly realized why he had personally been asked to supervise this specific squad. It turned out that two of his new pupils were exchange students from Konoha, recently arrived following a diplomatic agreement between the two villages.

These weren’t ordinary students either. The pink haired kunoichi was from the fearsome Uchiha clan, wielders of the Sharingan, Konoha’s most fearsome doujutsu, and the other was of Senju lineage, Konoha’s founding line and one of its most influential families. To give them to another country was a tremendous gesture of good will and trust.

Even though Kiri had a multitude of very potent shinobis that could have very well ensured the student’s training and protection, entrusting them to him made a lot of political sense. First, he was of the Hoshigaki clan, one of Kiri’s most feared and revered clan. Second, not only was he a member of the Seven Swordsmen of the Hidden Mist, but also the wielder of the unit’s most powerful blade: Samehada. This way, no one could say the Mizukage was taking this demonstration of trust from a foreign nation lightly.

Hiru signaled the captain that he was ready to depart and, in a few moments, they were off to sea.

Turning to his squad, he showed the biggest smile any of them had probably ever seen, which might have been a bit creepy with all of his razor sharp teeth exposed. Waving them closer, he addressed them for the first time as team captain: “First order of business: we need a team name!”. Clarifying his point, he added: “I was given the choice between the names “Team 2” or “Team Hiru” by the registration officers, but I declined them both. It's only suiting that our first act as a team is giving ourselves a name that we have decided upon!”.

So what are your ideas?

It was also always a nice surprise to see a friend that one had not seen in quite some time. It was equally surprising to receive a warm hug from that friend. Seeing Sakurayuki reminded Shiro of their time together at the academy. Their friendship had started out with an argument but they quickly bonded over training together. Whether it was partnering up on an assignment or Shiro tutoring Sakurayuki the two had spent quite a bit of time together. So it came as no surprise that she was curious about where Shiro had been, and what she was presently doing in Kiri. Before having a chance to answer that medic, Batsu stepped in to urge them to board the boat. Sheesh, I practically just got here! Why don't just relax for a little? she thought to herself. Shiro took the initiative and started walking towards the boat, only stopping momentarily to motion for Sakurayuki to follow. " Well I got here a little while ago with a different group. We left a little bit later than yours because of a bad paperwork or something. Any way, I was sitting around waiting to replace someone when I just got switched over to doing this Kiri thing." once on the ship it wasn't long before they had set sail. Shiro was a bit taken aback by their team leader having rejected the option of using his own name for the team. Being unexpected Shiro had to think quickly, " Team Hinami (火波)!." Shiro blurted out.

Mizuiro was liking the idea of naming his new team. He thought about it for a bit, and it came to him in an instant! Though he then realized it might not work, he had to speak out, or never have a say at all. But he wasn't sure about himself, he tapped his foot for a few seconds and then stood forward a little.
"Team Dynamite!"

(Rushed post... can't think...)

"You have got to be kidding me...", quickly uttered the merchant at the team's first exercise.

"I think I understand now why they didn't charge me for you to be on the mission. I can't believe the best thing you can do to train these wannabes is finding names... especially when the best they can come up with is "Team Dynamite"!" he snarked with derision.

User Image
"I would have insisted on being paid if I had known what a donkey you were...", answered Hiru beneath his breath.

User Image
"What was that??", quickly answered the old man.

User Image
"Oh it was nothing, just talking to myself!", Hiru answered, not wanting to be accused of lacking professionalism.

User Image
Turning back to his team, Hiru realized it might have been a bit early to find names for the group as the genins didn't know each other very well. "Okay, let's just stick a pin in that exercise while we get to know each other a bit better. In that spirit, given that we have an unusual even number of members in this squad, I think a little competition might force you guys to get acquainted." Continuing with his explanation, he decided: "You'll be paired in teams of two for this exercise. Iwao and Sakurayuki, you'll be Team Black. Inechi and Mizuiro, you'll be team Blue.". Clearly, Hiru wanted to prevent village clicks from forming right off the bat.

"In this area, the fish are extremely numerous, and are renowned for their grace when they leap out of the water. Therefore, I have come up with an exercise that will serve both as training and as a way to prepare for tonight's dinner. Allow me to demonstrate." Pausing his explanation, Hiru formed a few hand seals. In a flash, his image seemed to flicker for no more than a millisecond, reappearing stabilized almost immediately only now completely soaked. Before anyone could wonder what had happened, a beautiful fish leaped from the water on the ship's right side. Barely turning to look, Hiru tossed a kunai attached to a string straight through the fish, and, in one powerful gesture, yanked it back into his hand.

Taking a large bite from the raw fish, he continued his explanation with his mouth full, "One member of each team will have to jump in the water and find fishes. Once he has found one, he will have to scare it to the surface of the water to make it jump. While it's in the air, the second member, still on the boat, will have to aim at it carefully and impale it with a ranged weapon of his or her choice, attached to a string. Once it's done, he or she will have to pull it back to the boat as quickly as he can. The first team to bring back three fishes wins the exercise, and gets a special prize!"

Shinobi 1

1. Find a fish in the ocean: d20 + [Awareness] DC 10. If failed, must restart next roll from 0.
2. Scare the fish to the surface: d20 + [Handle Animal] + [Intimidate] DC 20. Swimmer adds dice rolls until DC is met.

Shinobi 2

3. "Harpoon" the fish: d20 + [Ranged Attack Bonus] + [Ranged Weapon Skill] DC 15. If failed, swimmer must repeat step 2.
4. Reel in the fish: d20 + [Str Mod] DC 15. Add rolls until DC is met.

Those who catch fishes with the least amount of dice rolls win the challenge!

"Team Blue, take the left side of the ship. Team Black, the right side. GO!"

Yuki quickly trotted behind Shiro as she heard her explain what had happened in Konoha. It made sense; she was obviously not even a genin yet, and they would probably want another skilled shinobi to send in 'good grace', subtly showing off how strong the younger generation still was even with the raging war. It was all politics and tentative attempts to gain trust between these war ravaged countries. Of course, Sakura didn't truly realize all these hidden meanings in their voyage, but she was simply happy to have a friend again. She still missed the duo that she had traveled with to Kiri, and briefly wondered how they were doing, before turning her attention back to their team leader, who mentioned something about creating a team name. Several answers were heard, including Shiro's 'Hinami' and the blue skinned shinobi's 'Team Dynamite'. Yuki held her tongue for now, as she didn't know enough to create anything truly fitting for this group, although Shiro's idea sounded fairly nice. A mix of fire and waves, signaling the friendship between Konoha and Kiri. She liked dynamite too, as it seemed to depict the flurry of actions and happenings around them all.

As their leader contemplated on the different names, he asked the team to split into a group of two for competition. Demonstrating a surprising speed, he had in his hand now a raw fish which he took a bite out of. Sakura blanched at seeing the fish eaten like so, but she made no mention of it. Instead, she sparked up, hoping to be matched with her Konoha friend, but it seemed their sensei had something else in mind, as he paired her up with a slightly feminine male, who had quietly introduced himself as Iwao before stepping back, away from the group. Sakura quietly nodded to her temporary partner as a member of the newly minted Team Black, before thinking of what to do. She was no good at tossing projectiles, as she didn't practice much with weapons besides her tessen. Which left.... the diving part. "I'm only slightly above average with tossing kunai, which I don't own any of, either. I'll dive." she said briefly, shivering slightly as she started stripping off the outer black layer of her clothing, as well as her gloves and shoes. In the water, they'd do no good but only pull her down and make her tire more quickly. Putting her things under the seat of the boat in a pile, she glanced at Shiro, before crossing her arms and raising her eyebrows at her friend. "Ho, I wonder who'll get it first, hm? I bet you my dango money that we'll win." she taunted playfully, smiling good-naturedly at the other Hoshigaki as well.

The sun was warm, but the air was still cold, due to perhaps the slight mist. Clad now in only white, quite contrary from her team name, Yuki stared at the water before slipping in with a small splash, careful not to make the boat rock too much lest it tipped over.

((I'm presuming everyone's in the boat.))

Batsu, being the ever-curious ninja he was, honed in on the conversation that Hiru and the merchant. He didn't get every the merchant first said... except for him calling the ninja wannabes. His eyebrows raised just a tad bit at hearing that Then the medic continued to eavesdrop.

Although Hiru muttered something that the merchant couldn't hear, Batsu was able to hear it fairly well. Batsu couldn't help but to turn his head and smile. He agreed whole-heartedly. He barely gave everyone a chance before judging them and that was unfair. Now he was sort of hoping that there would be some sort of action to where he was in danger and would have to rely on the same ninja he put down.

After the mini dispute, Batsu looked back at Hiru to see him give a mission to the other ninja. He noticed that he put the four into two team, separating the two Konoha buddies into opposing teams, which was quite smart. But as he continued to hear what Hiru instructed the two teams to do, he looked over at the water and just sat, thinking about everything and nothing at the same time.

Jinichi stayed silent, only mentally sighing as their leader came up with their first two objectives. Both were foolish and a waste of time in his opinion, the Rida would never have wasted time with such frivolous enterprises. Though he managed to stay silent when it came to the team name, he was forced to participate. Part of him relished the chance to show off his throwing skill, but he was saddened by the fact that there was no way to attach a string to a senbon. regardless, a Kunai would do he supposed. "Just remember to drive them to the surface." He said simply with a flat tone. He held the Kunai in his hand, getting used to slightly added wait, and awkwardness due to the rope.
