How is "Dir en Grey" pronounced?
"Deer en Grey"? Or "Dur en Grey"?
I've been reading it the second way ever since I've known them.
What about the way it's written?
"Dir en Grey"? Or "Dir en grey"?
I've written it the first way for who knows how long.
I think it's pronounced "Dur en Grey", and written "Dir en Grey".
So I'd vote, "Dur, Grey".

Well, their official site says Dir en grey so I would go for that.. And about the "i" it's supposed to say like "i" in "disc" (sorry for the stupid example but it was the first one I could think of... sweatdrop ) And japanese say it funnily, "diru an gurei" since they are used to spell things with katakana...

It does say "Dir en grey" on the cover of Gauze... confused

I've been saying it deer en grey, because I mostly talk in french about them with my best friend and i in french is ee. so dir en grey.
and I've always spelled it Dir en Grey with a big G because I love how that looks. and I love the DeG abreviation. not Deg

The best way to find out all that stuff would be to go to their official site and look up the songs from their discography... At least then you wouldn't get them wrong. ^^

It's definately 'Dir en Grey' but I believe it's pronounced like this:
'Deer' en Grey. It's harder for the Japanese people to pronounce 'dur' than 'dir' in my opinion. But I don't know.

Then again, "dir" is also a German word... Hmm.
"You in grey".
That would be what the name means, in a myriad of German, romance languages and English. xd

I've read a few theories on the name. Some speculate that it's supposed to mean "silver coin" or something to that general effect, but Lareine has an old demo tape titled "Dir en gray" (where our leftover fans argue the name originated) that was translated as "to you in grey."
Either way, general consensus is that it's Dir [German] en [French] grey[English], and since the "Dir" is German then it would have to be pronounced "Deer en grey."
