The forest wasn't as bad as everyone had made it seem back home in Tale. Monsters around every corner, nasty people, bah! What was her mother talking about? Nothing had tried to hurt her yet, she was being ridiculous!
"I just want to visit him, is that a crime?" She asked, peering towards Susuya curiously. The elder gave an eye roll and allowed Pahana to pass through the hut without any trouble. Pahana, once inside, meandered over to the young man situated in the bed in the corner and wrapped her arms around him.
"Oh, Rastian!" She cried. "I thought I'd never see your face again! Yaholo said I could be in charge of you today while he went across the water to pick flowers, I think, BUT I'M HERE TO KEEP YOU BUSY!"

Rastian had all but relaxed back into bed when Pahana came bounding into the room. He hesitantly gave his cousin a squeeze and leaned back into the bed. Great, Yaholo had sent her to keep him busy, what a fantastic idea. He peered weakly over towards Pahana, a small smile emerging upon his features.
"Alright, then." He said, wriggling under the covers. "Entertain me! Show me just how well you can dance, Yaholo told me all about that!"
He'd also been informed about just how terrible Pahana was at keeping balanced, but he wouldn't tell her that, she was too cute to insult.

Pahana nodded eagerly and hopped back towards the center of the room, tapping the dirt floor with her foot to keep rhythm. She twirled, hopped, and moved her hands around, humming a tune as she moved. However, she made the mistake of closing her eyes, and slipped on a stray stone.
"Oops!" She exclaimed, giggling. "Let me try that again!"
She stood, kicked the stone away, and started her dance again. But, as she got back into the pace she had before, she bumped into a table set up on the other side of the room. To this, she pouted, and folded her arms.
"Augh! Why does everything have to be in my way?" She cried.

Rastian scoffed. Everything was in her way? She was the one dancing straight into objects which could be easily avoided if she just kept her eyes open! He huffed, scooted up in bed, and patted the side of his bed.
"Come here, I've got some advice for you." He said, sighing. "Just try not to fall over when you make your way over, I'm frail and don't need you slipping on top of me like a boulder."

Though she was insulted by being compared to a boulder, Pahana allowed her arms to fall to her side and carefully wandered back to Rastian's bedside. Once seated upon the edge of the bed, she snuggled her knees up to her chest, and turned her face towards her sickly cousin.
"What do you have to say to me?" She asked, her expression solemn. "I know I'm clumsy, I just can't help it." Then, she sighed, her eyes panning off to the side. "Maybe I shouldn't be a dancer, Rastian. I'm just an accident waiting to happen..."

Rastian's eyes widened sharply as Pahana spoke, before they softened. He raised his healthy arm and patted her shoulder.
"No, no, stop that." He said, shaking his head. "When I lost in the tournament with that stupid book, I felt the same way. But did that stop me from finding another way around my rut? I have a staff, which does the same thing as a book, it's just easier of me to use."
He adjusted himself under the covers so he could be closer to her, wincing as his injured arm began to sting in retaliation, and gently rubbed her back.
"While that may not apply to you as much as you think it does," He began, taking a breath. "You shouldn't stop trying something just because you're clumsy. Clumsy is fixable, clumsy is workable, it's not the end of your career. Imagine if every dancer stopped dancing because they bumped into something, there would be no dancers in the world today, would there?"

Pahana sighed, but kept her gaze on Rastian. She admired just how strong he was, though she wouldn't say it. How could he continue to believe he could be a Healer when he had been so easily defeated during the tournament? Well, she was one to talk, actually. She had been beaten rather handily, by an Alkidike, no less. However, that was her with dual blades, not her as a dancer. If it had been a dancing competition she might have had more of a chance...
"Hm, you're right..." She said, resting her cheek against her knees. "But, how do I work with this? I've been trying so hard for so long and I feel like I'm going nowhere fast..."

Rastian smiled and took a breath, patting her on the back as he did. He shifted his legs under the covers so he could sit up, but still be propped up if he needed.
"Well, first off, you need to keep your eyes open." He said, stifling a chuckle. "That's probably why you can't stay in the center of the room to begin with, Paha. You can't possibly see where you're going when you have your eyes closed."

Pahana's head rose, her mouth forming into a shocked little 'o' shape. Right, that was a habit of hers, wasn't it? The rhythm flowing through her was so strong that it made her zone out, which caused her eyes to close. She let out a sigh and smiled, though sheepish, and stood.
"Okay, but can you help me?" She asked. "I tend to forget when I have my eyes open or not when I dance. This'll sound funny, but, I see the music as much as I hear it. That's why I close my eyes."

Rastian swiveled his legs over the edge of the bed and propped a pillow up behind him before facing Pahana again. She could see the music as well as hear it? What a peculiar thought! He'd never heard of such a thing before! Maybe a specific tone or beat caused her to think of a certain color? Hm... How very... Imaginative?
"Alright," He said, nodding. "I'll let you know if you close your eyes, but try not to get so lost in the rhythm that you actually do close them, okay?"

"Okay." Pahana replied, stepping a few feet away from Rastian. She found the same spot in the center of the room, gazed around it, and started to tap her foot upon the ground again. Soon she began to hum, her eyes growing heavy, before she paused. No, this felt weird, she couldn't dance with them open! She looked to Rastian, frustrated.
"What if I get dizzy?" She asked. "If I spin with my eyes open, I'll get dizzy, won't I? Then I'll fall over!"

"Believe it or not," Rastian replied. "You're going to get even more dizzy by closing your eyes. Your mind can't process where you're going by sight and it disorients it."
He shifted the pillow slightly, his arm acting up again, before turning back towards her.
"Try focusing on something in the room as you spin, like a focal point." He suggested. "It might help you stay on task and help you steer clear of dizziness."

A focal point... Well, if he said it might work, she would try anything! She quickly found her rhythm again and sent herself into a steady spin. Her eyes went to close, but she quickly snapped them back open, only to find that she couldn't find a focal point to grasp onto. Everything was spinning! She paused, fumbled to the side, and caught her balance.
"It didn't work!" She exclaimed.

Rastian sighed. Oof, how did Yaholo deal with this when he was growing up? He shook his head, leaned forward, and pointed to a desk set up right in front of Pahana.
"That's because you tried to focus on something while you were already spinning around." He explained. "You need to find the point of focus before you start to spin, otherwise you won't be able to focus on it, which is exactly what just happened. Just try again!"

Oooh, that made sense! She wouldn't be able to see the object while she was spinning, that's why she couldn't focus on it! Alright, she would keep trying. She took a deep breath, found the beat again, and made sure to keep her eyes on the desk in front of her. Then, when she felt ready, she sent herself into a spin. This time, instead of losing the object along with the blur from the rest of the room, the desk became the clearest thing and easiest thing to see. She twirled, hopped, tapped, and finished the dance without any trouble, to which she let out a squeal.
"I did it! I didn't fall!" She cried. "I can actually do this! Rastian, you're my hero!"
