It was a bright, sunshiney morning when The Country Kitchen opened it's doors for the breakfast crowd. Mares in little poke-a-dot dresses bustled around taking orders and offering beverages such as juice and coffee. As each order was taken the little paper was placed on a spinning wheel by a large window. In this window was the main chef of the diner, Country Kitchen or Kit as everyone called him.

He almost looked too big to be back there, a large draft stallion with his blue hair in a hairnet under his cowboy hat. But he moved with precision, obviously use to the back area as he cooked eggs, friend bacon, toasted bread, and stirred a pot of grits. Country ham was ready to be cut, he had sliced potatoes for hash browns or even home style fries if someone preferred. On another fryer were sausage links and in the oven were fresh baking biscuits. Stirring another pot of gravy Kit smiled at the morning rush.

Despite the constant stream of customers Kit still felt a little lonely in his cooking world. His mother and sister had their own shops to tend to and his last crush was with another stallion. At least he had his grill and his shop, he had pudgy customers who complimented his cooking and tipped his waitresses well. He would be fine!

Just as Sunny tapped the counter two plates full of pancakes, bacon, grits, and hashbrown casserole appeared. "Order up!" the stallion behind the window called as he dinged a small bell. A unicorn waitress quickly came over, lifted the plates, and scattered off to deliver the meals. Suddenly the yellow eyed stallion looked at the mare at the window, realizing it wasn't one of his waitresses. She was asking who was the cook. That didn't always mean a good thing but then she did call it yum-a-licious.

"Why howdy, ma'am! Iffen yer looking for the cook yer lookin at 'im! Welcome to The Country Kitchen. I'm yer cook, Country Kitchen!" he chuckles a bit at his own joke, "But must folks round here just call me Kit."

The looked at the lovely Pegasus mare, thinking she must be a lover of food for several reasons. She was a bit pudgier than most mares in his family, not to say his family didn't have good cooks but one should always sample their own food. Made for a bit of a belly which he enjoyed. She was bright yellow, like the yolk of an over easy egg with the nicest pastel hair braided in a fancy type way. Her eyes were a pretty shade of purple. What caught his attention most was her cutie mark. Was that an egg?

He was distracted a bit when a few more orders finished up. He flipped some bacon, scrambled some eggs, buttered toast, and sliced some ham. With simple precision he had another five places ready to go, dinging the bell again for pick up. Most of the patrons had their meals now so he could take a breather, "Well missy whats yer name? And if yer hungry I got some fresh vittles."

The mare looked quite taken with his food, as if she had never seen a real meal before. He chuckled at his new name, Kit-Kat. Yeah his sister would totally get a kick out of that. "Well I think I'll call ya Sunshine, seein as yer so bright," he smiled. At the mention she would want some vittles he nodded and went to get something to make for her. Then she asked someone no one had ever asked, not even his sister.

"What me? Well," he though for a moment, "I don't see why not. No one's really ever been intrestsed in my cooking. Just put on that there hair net and come on in!" he pointed to a box of hairnets.

Kit decided the lovely mare needed a plate of delicious pancakes, bacon, two eggs sunny side up, and buttered grits. First he put down some bacon to start frying, then took the pancake batter out. He poured two big circles of batter onto a flat pan, letting them start cooking. Next he put two eggs in a frying pan, making sure to give them just a touch of salt and pepper. He went to flip the bacon, then flip the pancakes to brown on the other side. Checking on the eggs he went to grab a plate, putting a bit spoonful of grits on it then adding a pad of butter on them. Finally he added the bacon and eggs to the plate. On a smaller plate he put the pancakes.

"Alright, Sunshine. Yer vittles is ready!"

Kit smiled as the mare watched him cook with a look of amazement on her face. Some phonies acted that way watching him cook so many things at once without burning it. She seemed even more surprised when he offered her the made food. "Well shore! Yew said yew was hungry for some vittles. Eat up!" he chuckled.

Most stallions might wrinkle their nose a bit at the sudden devouring of the food, not even going to a table to eat. But Kit admired the mare for truly enjoying the food. No need for some things if one was hungry enough. He waited for her opinion of his cooking, though if her satisfied face seemed to tell him all he needed to know.

"Well my maw showed me how. She's one of the best cooks 'round," he chuckled and made a few more plates as a couple orders came through. "See the key to cookin all this at once is timin. Ya gotta know how long each thang cooks fer and then yew can make everything at once," he showed her by explaining how bacon and pancakes take longer to cook than say the eggs or toast. Grits and gravy could be made in large pots and kept warm for easy serving. If you timed it right you could make a full meal and everything be piping hot.
