Noah stood hesitating outside Peyton's door for a very long time. Twice he raised his hand to knock, then chickened out and put it back down and fidgeted for another few minutes. Finally, though, he made a face and made himself tap at the door. He needed to do this. ... Maybe she wasn't home. If she wasn't home he wasn't sure if he was going to be able to try again.

As a Sun, and as someone that usually preferred to be around others rather then by herself, it was a toss up as to whether the vertically challenged teen was in her dorm or not. Noah was lucky, or perhaps unlucky, a few seconds after the knocking the door opened and Peyton glanced out into the hall curiously before the realization of who it was made her frown. "Noah?" It was a questioning tone, bordering on impatience, but not hostile. The last time she'd seen the taller trainee he'd been crouched in a closet within the girl's showers, spying. She'd been furious then, but most of that anger had dissipated with recent events. Hard to maintain righteous indignation for having been peeped on in the after math of a battle to the death that forced you to chose kill or be killed, and a follow up lecture on how incredibly useless and expendable you were with colorful, screaming examples. "What's up?" It might also be worth noting that hip length curls, once merely gradient with bright pink at the bottoms, were now entirely rosy. From roots to tips.

"Your hair's pink," Noah said, the observation making it out of his mouth before anything resembling a brain-to-speech filter kicked in. He realized immediately how dumb he'd just sounded and added hastily. "I'm sorry! I, uh, Iwantedtoapologize." The words came out in a sheepish, embarrassed rush, crammed hastily and nervously together.

A pale brow rose, eyes flicking off to the side, perhaps taking in a colorful wave in her peripheral before sliding back to Noah. "Yes it is." She might have made some semi scathing comment about astute observations of the obvious, but his hasty apology stopped her, managing to both soften and darken delicate features. A sudden flicker of old anger at the reminder of what he'd done, there and gone in a matter of seconds. Then she sighed, opening her door a little wider as an invitation, and stepped back and away to take a seat on the edge of her bed. "You might as well come in." "I appreciate you coming over here and apologizing." Her voice had softened, now she just sounded tired. "That takes guts."

Noah followed her in, stopping just inside the door. He held himself awkwardly, elbows close to his body in an uncomfortable-looking bundle of self-containment. "I just, it was dumb, and rude, and thoughtless." He looked at his feet. "I'm sorry. It won't ever happen again, I promise." His eyes flickered up to her face, then down and away again. "I ... didn't want Al to think I was a chicken," he admitted. "That's why I didn't say I wouldn't."

A considering gaze was maintained throughout the extended apology, and when he was finished there was a moment of quiet contemplation, then the Sun was leaning forward to grab the back of the chair the sat at her desk. She pulled it out and turned it a little, then sat back. "You can sit, I'm not going to bite." If he'd been proud of what he'd done. If he didn't seem to care that he'd partaken in a huge invasion of privacy, they'd be having a different conversation, but Noah looked genuinely sorry. Just a poor guy that had let someone else talk him into a dumb idea. "You know Al's not really the best source of good ideas, right?" A little shifting, and Peyton was sitting with her back against the wall, legs folded Indian style. "He's a creep, he was a creep before the shower incident." Not to mention hero worshiping someone that had taken a spar so far someone had ended up dead. "You're a nice guy, Noah. It was a shock finding you in that closet, but you're here now trying to set things right." A small smile. "Maybe there's potential in you yet." She thought about the last few days, the things she'd seen and done, and she found she was grateful the newbie hadn't been present for that. It would have been a harsh introduction, baptism by fire. Worse even then her own first brush with what it meant to be a Hunter.

Noah sat obediently, though he still perched like a nervous finch, feathers and tension. "I, um. I guess I'm learning that. But he's, he's my friend." He folded his hands together, unfolded them a moment later, gave Peyton an apologetic look. "Maybe if I tell him he's being creepy he won't be so much ... " The statement rose just slightly at the end, barely not a question. "You look tired," he added after a moment, taking in the hollowness in her look.

Peyton was tempted to comment on Noah's poor choice in friends, but she didn't. Maybe there was more to Al then she knew, maybe not. Was it really any of her business to dictate who should be friends with who? So she kept her opinion to herself, shoulder raising in a small shrug of acknowledgement. "Maybe, but it wouldn't be the first time someone's told him he was being a creep." She didn't have high hopes. She blinked at his observation, startled, then offered a weary smile. "Yeah, I guess I am. It's been a long week."

"O-oh." Noah wilted a little. "I can try," he offered hopefully. Maybe if it was coming from a friend it would help? He didn't know. Was he a good enough friend to offer advice? He didn't know that either. "It's been a long sucky week," he agreed. "Are you, um. Are you okay?" ... Maybe she wouldn't appreciate him asking. She might be about to just kick him out. Noah's eyes fell to his knees.

It was hard not to admire Noah's loyalty to his friend. Even if that friend was a skeevy creep. Lavender eyes rolled upward, and she shook her head, the barest of movements before lifting both hands to slide fingers through her hair, forcing it back from her face as she leaned back against the wall. Another considering look was passed his way as she thought about his question. Was she okay? Nothing all that serious had happened to her, but she still felt worn thin, tired, stressed out. "Yeah, I'm alright. Just feeling the weight of everything that's going on." Shiloh's death, the promise of portals reopening and then being forced to fight for her life in an intricate battle royale, and then being punished for doing what she had to to survive. The guilt had been enough, she hadn't needed to seen Finn being tortured for an inability to keep his mouth shut. Dropping her hands, she smoothed her palms over her thighs. "So how are you settling in?" Subject changes were good.

Noah opened and shut his mouth, managing to bite off You don't look too alright before it got out. If she wasn't okay but she didn't want to talk about it, she wasn't going to talk about it. Girls were like that. Girls also rarely appreciated being called on it. He really would get kicked out if he pushed the issue too hard. Subject changes were definitely good. "Pretty good," he answered. "I'm learning what I can do and what my job is. Cleaning minipet cages and fetching coffee a lot but that's okay."

He probably could have pressed her, and she probably would let him. Intellectually she understood that talking about the things that bothered you was imperative, but the girl was a stubborn creature, and she would go on pretending that nothing was wrong for as long as she could get away with it. She didn't like feeling vulnerable, or weak, and she tried desperately to fight against those feelings where ever she could. But she watched the trainee open his mouth as if he wanted to say more, then shut it, eyes intent on her. And she saw him jump at the change of conversation, and felt relief. That was good, just let her keep pretending. "That's good. I've never seen the minipets." She'd been there how long now and had yet to really explore all of the complex? "Is there a lot of them?"

Noah simply wasn't assertive enough to pursue the matter. She'd as much as said drop it, and, obediently, he'd dropped it. He nodded to her question. "A whole room full. A lot of them are pretty cute. You should come see them," he added hopefully. "They're not all awful at all."

She considered it quietly a moment, then got up and walked over to loop her arm around Noah's to pull him up to his feet. "I could use a room full of cute and not awful things right about now. Can you take me?" She was smiling again, looking at him in a hopeful sort of way. A little light fun sounded just about perfect after the awful week she'd been having.

Startled by the sudden touch, Noah was easy to pull to his feet, though it didn't help the tension in his thin frame any. "O-of course!" he stammered. "We could, we could take some of them for walkies, they, there's always some that need exercise, um, yeah, okay." He wound down, bobbed his head, and turned towards the door. If she didn't intend let go of his arm, he wouldn't pull away, even if it was making him a little extra nervous.
