Del wandered among the sawgrass, carefully avoiding its sharp edges. The sand turned softly beneath her hooves, and it made her smile. Every little grain ran over one another... And once, they had been part of the sea. Just like she had been, her mommy told her. Everything happens for a reason, said her mother's voice in her head, soft and soothing. These grains of sand had been left behind here to form the world. At least, that was what she told herself - how else would it have happened?
Feeling a sharp, tiny bit of pain in her leg as she walked, Del looked down. She hadn't done all that well at avoiding the sawgrass after all - blood welled onto her blue-and-white coat near her knee. It would be a while before she would be able to comfortably lay down again, she realized - she'd either get sand in the cut or reopen it. Frustrated, she stomped a foot in the sand, but all it did was make a shhhhh sound as it crashed against the sedge around her. Her skin - still soft and vulnerable from her time in her basket - was beginning to itch a little, too, as if she had been blanketed with irritatingly rough sand that refused to come out of her coat. She decided against rolling, though, to scratch it - with all the sharp brush about, she'd end up with more than one little cut... And the sand would only make it worse. Letting out an angry sigh, she turned in circles to distract herself, but nearly tripped over her own tail, where it lay, long and ungainly, right in her path.
I guess today will be the day that I figure out what I'm bad at, Del thought, and for some reason, she wanted to laugh at herself. Maybe I can count walking on the list. ((Her tail isn't super muscled at this point or anything, so she just kinda drags it around limply. I think she should just barely be able to turn around and have it still be in her path. X3 So it looks like she's dragging around a snake with a fin or something. |D ))
