A winter wind chilled the streets hurrying shoppers into the stores quickly. Oddly enough there was one person who walked calmly with the wind at his side. Ignoring the strands of his scarf which danced in the wind behind him Ilmari settled for keeping his hands in his pockets as he thoughtfully paused at various store windows. His gaze was calm, but they were searching carefully through the items which were displayed. That coat was warm and also probably fashionable with women… It was supposed to be getting colder, would she be warm? His amber gaze softened considerably at the memory of the girl who he had finally found. It had been hard to not step out then; sending out a wind attack to help had even been risky as it was. How was it that she was out there alone?

To think after all this time he would still find her in the woods, brightly shining as she had been all that time ago when he was just a cottonee. So much had changed for him since he had been caught and named by a trainer. Taking a hand out of his pocket the teen reached out to poke at the human appearance which stared back at him in the window’s reflection, “Not that she would even know me now.” Even as he chuckled softly at the thought his gaze seemed sad.

“If you going to buy something you should come inside and not poke at our windows.”

Startled by the light voice Ilmari turned to face the saleswoman sheepishly, “Sorry miss. I guess I did get lost in my thoughts just then.” He smiled brightly at her, all hints of sorrow gone, and the woman flushed lightly. “I’ll stop hiding your wonderful display and continue on then.” Waving he left her silently standing there by the front doors before making his way further along the edge of town.

The winter wind cut through Mitsuru's skin like a knife. She felt it more acutely through the thin cloak she'd managed to grab than if she'd just not worn it at all. Her bare feet clenched involuntarily against the cool pavement. This sort of weather wasn't for her at all, and it showed. The fact that she was making her way into a human city told as much. She needed something warm, and they were the only ones who had what she needed, unfortunately.

The humans gave her a wide berth. Between the distressed state of her clothing, her hair was a wild mess of tangles and forest dabree; almost like the bush it was a meant to represent. Where was her protector now? Arceus only knew who had helped her with their wind, but it hadn't been lost on the Shaymin. She could use some of that wind now to take her far away. Some place warm, with no cars to honk at her, people to stare, and stores to slam their door in her face...

With a sigh she leaned back against a building to rest, only to have a short portly man shoo at her from a nearby window. She stepped away, but he came out anyway. "This isn't a charity shop, so get on now, shoo!"

"Wait, I've got mone-" It was too late. He was already inside, all warm and snug, and Mitsuru winced when he slammed the door.

The flowers on her head had never looked so dark. As the gratuitous Poke'mon, Shaymin thrived on generosity, purity, and warmth. All of which was severely lacking in this messed up human world.

Maybe it was some weird twist of fate that Ilmari took the path that he had, but it allowed him to see someone being rudely tossed away. At first he didn’t recognize the girl who was being yelled at and instead just found himself bothered by someone treating a person like that in this weather. As recognize hit though his fists clenched at his side as the man slammed the door into the Shaymin’s face and the teen had to force his feet to keep solid on the ground. It was rather tempting to go up and wreck the glass windows of that shop so that the owner could experience the weather he was keeping the girl in. But he refused to cause such a scene. Rather Ilmari finally found himself taking the chance to do something he hadn’t manage to do before. He actually approached the battered teen.

“Here.” Drapping his warm jacket over her shoulders the Whimsicott smiled faintly, “The cold is rather bitter today, you shouldn’t be out here without some protection.” His amber gazed glared at the shop door before he tugged lightly on her hand. The rush of cold from her skin made his eyes widen briefly before he tightened his warm hold. Why was she out here in such a mess? Then again…he glanced down at her outfit with a small frown. No wonder her hands were so cold.

“I’m Ilmari.” He randomly stated once they had passed after passing the shop, “Not to intrude on your space, but I couldn’t help seeing that reception they had for you.” Letting go of her hand he crossed his arms and looked at her, “Do you come here often to receive such wonderful hospitality?” His gaze softened as another breeze brushed around them, “Oh well. If you want I know a place where I can treat you to something warm since I have to show a good side to this town. Wouldn’t want you thinkin’ everyone is the same after all.”

Mitsuru bounced from one foot to the other, making sure to keep contact with the bitter concrete to only the balls of her feet. This entire trip was a waste, and with dreading realization she knew that staying holed up in her shrine all winter would have done her more good than to come to a human city. She hung her head, pressing the base of her palms against her cheek bones to stave off the tears that blinded her eyes.

Then she felt warm surround her, and Mitsuru turned to look at the boy with red rimmed eyes and a tepid smile. "T-thank you," She took a deep, yet shaky, breath and pulled at the edges of his coat. "B-but what about you? You should be wearing this, not me. It's yours." He would freeze just like her if he didn't have the coat! And yet, she couldn't bring herself to take it off. Only now was she beginning to feel her skin again.

Her hand in his felt so wonderful. She felt his squeeze, and gave one back in return, trying to draw in as much of his warmth as she possibly could before it was taken away from her like everything else. Nothing lasted forever, she knew that, but this felt nice. "Ilmari." Mitsuru repeated, a brighter smile replacing her frozen one. "I like that. I'm Mitsuru." And just like that he took his hand away, and she was forced to bury both hands within the folds of his jacket.

She turned her lime gaze to the ground and nodded. "...Humans have always been like that. If you look different, they don't like you, and they never like me." Her shoulders slumped under the weight of it, and her flowers took a darker cast. Mitsuru warily lifted her gaze back up to him, and scrunched her face into a frown. "That sounds nice, but how much do you want for it? I don't have much, and I still need to pay to get a bus ride home."

She had been crying? As Mitsuru turned towards him Ilmari felt his heart squeeze in his chest. His hand inched forward before he pressed it back against his side. No, he better not. The whimsicott was still very shy about reaching out for the girl before him. He was too afraid that she was a mirage and that holding onto her would break the illusion. Still at hearing her concern for him even with her own state the teen couldn’t help but to reach out and pat her head gently, “Silly. I obviously wouldn’t have given it to you if the cold bothered me as much.”

“Mitsuru.” Finally he knew her name. It was just as pretty as he would imagine it to be, “I like that.” Copying her own words in a teasing manner Ilmari grinned before his expression flickered once more, “Ah yeah. Well not all humans are like that ya know. You just have to meet the right ones.” He offered her a small smile, “I’ve known one or two yet that haven’t been horrid.” The last thing he wanted was for her to lose optimism for others. It truly would be a sad world if she couldn’t expect to meet a light every now and then.

“Cost?” Ilmari paused mid-stride and laughed, “I invited you for a meal, not to get money from you.” The teen glanced down at her before holding out his hand, “If you insist though then I will charge you one thing, Mitsuru.” His gaze glimmered with humor, “Your hand again. The wind is freezing my hands, so keep it warm for me with yours until we reach the café.” A lie since he was still radiating heat, but the whimsicott still held his tan hand out for hers. It would be easier to keep her safe that way in the crowd as well. Even while his heart was fluttering from being able to speak so casually to someone after so long Ilmari kept her safety foremost in mind. As he always hoped to.

Giving one last wipe to her eyes, Mitsuru stifled off the tears. Walking with Ilmari had given her enough chance for the cold air to freeze the warm liquid to her cheeks, so it wasn't as if they had much of a place to go.

"Then you're very fortunate, Ilmari." Mitsuru curled one foot on top of the other, wobbled a bit, but then gained her balance. Ahh, much better! "It's only the humans that aren't really humans that have been nice, but the real ones..." She could only frown. They were cold, angry, and bitter. Was it because they didn't have powers? Or was it because they all looked the same?

Afraid his laughter was directed as a mockery towards her, Mitsuru stiffened. "See, now, you just said you wouldn't- Oh." Tentatively she took his hand once more, and furrowed her brows, more so out of confusion than anything else. "Are you sure you aren't sick? You feel really warm to me, but if you're cold..." She reached up to grasp his chin with her forefinger and thumb to guide his face lower to hers. Mitsuru then leaned up on her tip toes to place her forehead onto his, which only caused her concern to grow when she let him go. "You should get inside soon, and take your coat back." Mitsuru started to shrug out of the jacket.

Ilamri looked at Mitsuru and nodded. He could have what humans liked to call luck and it seemed today was one of those ‘fortunate’ days. Watching her wobble he could not help but to smile warmly at the image she unknowingly created. His gaze flickered though as he focused again on what she was saying, “I really am sorry to hear that then. Humans tend to be very cruel sometimes, especially to their own kind as well.” His hands gestured towards their appearances, “Our change is not always the best of things then considering how they now don’t know how to label us. Their greed only worsens our situation as many were ‘born’ into this with no money, no family to cherish them and raise them until they were able to care for themselves. All these shops want is our money after all.” It indeed was a cruel world compared to the forest where things seemed to be simple and true. If one wanted to attack they would, if they needed food they took it, there was none of these social structures that limited their movement. No wonder humans seemed so conflicted.

Holding her hand in his Ilmari just shook his head at Mitsuru as they walked. Stumbling to a pause though he stood perfectly still as she touched their foreheads together. The contact sent electricity through the whimsicott whose amber eyes widened immensely, “Mit-Misturu…” Swallowing against the rough quality of his voice, “I promise I’m not sick.” Instead his face felt much warmer even after she had pulled back. Taking a deep breath the whimsicott placed his hands on her hands and pulled them away from his jacket, “Keep it. We’re close enough as it is.” As a hold on keeping her in his jacket the whimsicott raised his arm and kept it around her shoulders, “There if you’re worried about me freezing then this suffices.”

He smiled down at her, “I’m touching my jacket after all.” His hold tightened as a cold breeze swept around them and turning allowed the cold to hit the brunt of his back rather than his companion, “And here we are.” Turning the corner towards a small café that overlooked one of the city’s parks the teen opened the door and ushered Mitsuru inside towards the warmth and to a familiar table by the windows. Immediately he stepped away from her and lowered his arm as the scent of coffee and food surrounded them.

His words were nothing knew to her. Mitsuru had learned long ago that humans were vain, cruel, and indestructible beings set on the corruption of the world she called home. In her youth she had been naive enough to believe that if she buried her head in the bushes that they wouldn't find her, but they always would. If it was different, they would destroy it.

"I don't believe you! Ilmari, you're so flushed..." He didn't look well at all. Maybe it was the poison in the air? The city held a thicker, nastier air than her woodland home, and if it was getting to her then it must have already affected him too! Mitsuru frowned when he placed his arm around her petite shoulders. She was worried for him, and didn't see how contact could help. "I'll check again later, and if you're still sick you're taking the jacket." There! Assertion at it's finest!

She wasn't ready for the mixtures of scents from the cafe and it took a few good moments to orient herself. The heat was also a shock to her bare legs, making them burn in a satisfying way. The patrons looking at her failed to make an impression upon the young Shaymin, and instead as she sat, she looked at Ilmari. "What is this place?"

Ilmari quickly shook his head, “You just have to trust me.” Regaining some composure the whimsicott gently flicked her on the forehead, “Sometimes people are just warmer than others. I’m just warm today, I promise you if I was sick I would let you know.” He smiled at her demands of checking his temperature later though his face threatened to flush once more at the thought of her ‘checking’ his temperature. Despite having watched over her multiple times to actually be interacting with her was something new. Already she threatened to make his heart dance from his chest.

Staring some humans back down Ilmari quickly looked back at Mitsuru, “It’s called a café. People can order drinks and food here. It’s something small, but I have always enjoyed the view.” He gestured towards the window to where people mulled about a small park, “It’s interesting to watch humans as they go about their daily business.” Despite his reserves about some the little ones were usually adorable to watch, almost like baby pokémon playing about. He smiled at Mitsuru, “But enough of that let’s get you something warm to eat…do you have any idea of what to order?” He placed a small menu in front of her with lists of teas and coffees along with small salads, soups, sandwiches, and cakes, “I can help you if you have questions.”

Mitsuru lifted her hands to cover her forehead, even if the action hadn't hurt, it was more out of surprise, with a little childish smile. "I'll trust you then, Ilmari, but I'm watching you." She moved her hands to point at her eyes, then at him, with a semi-serious look. Or as serious as she could get.

The young Shaymin tucked her stained dressed around her knees and swung her legs under the chair. Even as old as she was in human form, she was still so much smaller than most, and found even the normal chair something to keep her toes off the ground. "Humans are so odd." She turned to put her hands on the glass, craning her head to get a better look. "Sometimes they can be so nice, but others...Well, from this distance, they look almost nice. I wish they would let me help them, like the Poke'mon do."

Her voice wasn't without it's regrets. She had tried to assist her fair share of humans, but when they found about her permanent head flowers or her strange powers, they fled. Or called her bad names. One had even tried to take her!

Shaking her head, she turned back to the table. Her reading skills were basic, at best, and now he was more than glad that Lucinda had taught her to read, all those years ago. "Soup sounds good, so how about the...broccoli and cheese? Is that good?" She turned her lip at a crooked angle, bringing her menu up to her face to study it intensely before setting it down. "And coffee. I'd like to try that."

At her reaction Ilmari couldn’t help but to smile, “I would be disappointed if you didn’t.” Just watching her actions made him happy and it was obvious by the light dancing in his amber gaze. He was usually warm to most he met, but with Mitsuru something else seemed to light up on his face. He didn’t understand the feeling yet, but it was really a dream to be able to sit so close to someone so precious.

“Hmm?” Following her gaze he looked back outside, “I suppose it’s just hard for them to accept things that they can’t understand. Little ones tend to be so much more innocent and cute…adults, however…they can be unique.” He chuckled softly, “Some can be nice, if not absolutely scary.” Just remembering the scientist he lived with amused him. The idea of the guy meeting someone like Mitsuru was slighty scary however and Ilmari shook his head. There was a reason he wouldn’t tell his friend about this strange and amazing girl. She would be truly terrified of humans after going through one of his ‘experiments’. Ilmari went through enough already on his own and he was just a whimsicott, nothing as special as the shaymin, “Sometimes you can’t help everyone though, Mitsuru.” He commented quietly nearly reaching out to pat her head before jerking his hand back to fiddle with his menu.

“Brocolli and cheese? That I can do.” Ilmari nodded as he scooped up the menus, “And coffee, that sounds alright.” After a moment he let the words pause in the air. Mitsuru with coffee? Mitsuru with coffee…was that a smart idea? Getting up from the table to head towards the counter Ilmari peeked back over towards her. Smiling softly he shook his head in faint amusement before heading to the counter with their order. Paying he took his change and slowly made his way back towards the table, “Your coffee madam.” Placing two mugs on the table he pushed one gently towards her, “It’s hot, so be careful.” He stirred his and blowing softly on the steaming mocha he watched her carefully as he took a sip of his own drink.

Shaking her head, Mitsuru smiled softly, if not a little sad. "You can always help others, Ilmari. They may not realize what you're doing, but just being there for them is help enough. I'm glad that you've had so many happy times with humans, but I guess I just haven't met the right ones yet, huh?" She laughed awkwardly, rubbing her hands together on her lap. "I just have to keep trying until they like me." Though, she'd try from the shadows, away from direct contact with humans. They were selfish, but pitiable, definitely worthy of help.

While he was gone, she curled her feet up underneath her in the seat, and looked outside once more, her voluptuous hair coiling around her like the leafs in the a tree. Upon hearing him return, she turned her head, and picked up the cup for a gingerly drink. "Oh wow, it is hot!" Smiling, she blew on the steam and took another drink, "And-eww, kind of..bitter." Scrunching up her nose, she looked down at the cup. "Not bad, but bad?" Taking a smaller drink, she decided to withhold any further judgement. It was free and warm, so that meant it was good!

Watching her made Ilmari’s heart melt. It wasn’t right for someone so sweet and loving to have such sorrow in their expression. Reaching out he patted her head with an encouraging smile, “Hey now. Anyone who doesn’t like someone as kind hearted as you is a fool. You just haven’t met any humans with sense yet to see that.” He laughed quietly, “I suppose Pokemon will always have more sense than any human after all.”

“Told you so, silly.” Ilmari grinned as he just shook his head at her actions. She was truly adorable, “You don’t have to drink it black like that ya know.” Ilmari stole her cup and pushed his mocha towards her, “Try that. It’s another form of coffee.” He stood again and after going to the counter returned not only with the soup and his danish, but also with several small cups of creamers and sugar. “I can doctor your bitter drink if you prefer something sweet like that…or you can keep mine and I’ll have fun with this.”

Smiling he pushed the bowl of soup towards her and laid down a spoon, “That’s hot as well so please be careful.” Sitting back down he gingerly tore off a piece of his own danish and closed his eyes happily at the delicious taste of cherry as it melted in his mouth.

Mitsuru's pale cheeks burned dark and she looked at him with a slack jawed expression before truly smiling. She gripped his hand, putting her free hand ontop of his. "That's so sweet of you, Illmari. You're a true friend." There wasn't anyone alive that treated her with such kindness. It was a refreshing change.

She pouted when her cup was taken, though it wasn't because she missed the taste. "It's alright, I can take it, I'm tough!" She held up her arm and made a muscle man pose, then tapped her bicep with her free hand. "See? This is some strong stuff." Of course there was nothing there, but silky pale skin. Still, she took a sniff of the offered drink and held it up in two hands before tentatively taking a drink. "Oooh, it's sweet! This one is a lot better. If you can make mine like this one, I would love that."

Mitsuru moved the drink to the side and took up the bowl of soup instead. She spooned out a bit, blew on it and plopped it in her mouth with a little moan of satisfaction. "This is sooo good. Here, you try~" Mitsuru leaned across the table, gathering a spoonful of the soup and holding it up to feed Illmari.

Ba-dump, ba-dump

Ilmari felt his own cheeks burn in unison with Mitsuru's blush, "It's really nothing. I was just speaking the truth." Squeezing her hand gently the whimsicott pulled away with a small smile. He had to focus on something else, but the gentle feeling of her hands on his startled him. They were so soft, perfect for the gentle pokemon who they belonged to.

Laughing Ilmari just shook his head at her adorableness, "Aye, aye! You're so tough that I'm daunted by you, but even tough ones need some sweets in their life." At her praise the teen nodded as he began to dump some sugar and creamer into the coffee. Stirring it lightly he watched as the dark color became a lighter, creamier shade of brown and carefully he pushed it back towards her, "Alright milady see how this one tastes for you."

Well I say that was a good choice then. "Wait, wha-" His protests got cut off as he found himself automatically opening his mouth to taste the soup. Swallowing he pulled back quickly and nodded, "It's...it's really good." His face darkened as he realized what he had just did, "A good choice on your part."

"If you wanted to try a danish as well I can give you a bite of mine."

Really? How lame was he sounding right now? Ilmari felt his face darken even more as he lifted his own drink to hide the spreading blush. It was so crazy that this one girl could completely shake him up so badly. So much for the calm, collected gentleman.
