Sebor wasn't one to complain much. Times hard been hard in the rouge lands and she had learned from experience that whining did nothing to help. Now that she was in a pride, however, she had expected life to be much easier. And while it was true that food and water were no longer a worry, common courtesy was hard to come by. The Stormborn were a strong group of lions and Sebor had thought that the females in the pride were considered equals and not home makers, but she had found out she had been wrong. Instead of being welcomed and brought to go viking, she had been scoffed at and ignored by the general population of males.

There were a few that had shown at least a bit of decency, but the kindness she was used to growing up was gone. Her own giving personality was stunted here, and her gruff side came out more often than not just so she wouldn't be walked over. It was tiresome and, in all honesty, was starting to wear her down. Soon it would either be give in and become some sort of den keeper, or leave. She had fought so hard to be allowed in, though. She didn't want to just give it up.

With a sigh she headed to the border to get away from the males that ignored her and the females that were content with their lot in life. As she walked she glanced up at the sky, squinting in the sun. "Is there no one that respects females here?" she muttered to herself, batting at a bone on the ground that had probably belonged to some small animal. "And not just in a tolerating way, not in an objective way. These males are pigs," she muttered to herself.

Finally she stopped and sat under a tree, letting out a slow breath, her head held down in defeat. "Perhaps this wasn't the right place for me," she said quietly. No male would take a mate that was a strong-minded as her, that much was obvious, so it wasn't even as if she had children to keep her busy and teach properly.

"Are they?"

A voice said from somewhere above her. Sometimes, the wingless God still liked to go out and fly, though he was sure it felt different for him than it did for the ones who could use their wings. His was a sort of floating magic that most gods could use, with or without wings, but he still loved the feeling of being in the air. And it certainly made him a strange sight to see.

By most outward appearances, he did not look like the Gods who kept company with him in the Haven, or the ones he had met on his travels. He looked like a large and regal lion who was adorned in fancy cloth. But he had no wings, no horns, no strange mutations or any indicator that really screamed that he was a God of anything. Except for the flying, and the powers, and all that jazz. He could just use his magic to blend in further, but where would the fun in that be?

He smiled at her, then moved to settle on the ground nearby, watching her curiously. He had just been passing overhead, and her voice had reached his ears. He couldn't help but wonder if she was alright, with how upset she seemed. A female should always be treated with respect, after all.

"Are you alright, my lady? You seem very distressed. Forgive me for eavesdropping, I could not help but hear..." he bowed his head apologetically.

The disembodied voice startled Sebor enough that her claws came out and she adopted a defensive stance. She hadn't heard anyone coming up, but after a quick glance around, it was obvious no one had. Not in any conventional way, at least. Something caught her eye above her, and her orange eyes widened when they rested on the floating lion. He was standing in mid-air, he was massive, he was decorated in very fancy cloth, and on top of all that, he called her 'my lady' when he came to rest on the ground. She had to be dreaming.

Narrowing her eyes suspiciously and fur bristling at her own shock, she drew away from the stranger. She hadn't survived in the rouge lands for as long as she had by trusting odd lions that she'd come across, and there had certainly been plenty. This one, though...this one took the prize.

"Who are you?" she asked instead while subtly pressing her claws into her paw. Yup, it hurt. She wasn't dreaming. "What are you?" Some sort of mutant perhaps? She hadn't been raised to believe in gods, and had no knowledge of them whatsoever. "You're certainly not from around here," she added a bit bitterly, the kind words and the gentle demeanor of the other lion finally reaching her brain now that the shock had worn off just a bit.

The God smiled at her, though he bowed his head again as she asked who he was. He was not the type to ignore a question, and he did not want to upset her further by keeping her in suspense. The last thing he wanted to do was scared her and he did not think she was in the mood for him to dawdle. She looked tough and ready, and he wondered how much she had suffered to make her reactions that defensive.

"My name is Talfrid. I am a God, as you all call us. I mean you no harm, and I did not mean to startle you so."

He tilted his head at her, not missing how upset she sounded. Clearly the males in this part of the world were not very kind or loving, and they had left her jaded in some way. He did not like the idea of these kinds of places, as he held the most respect for females, and the work they did. In his pride, they were all equal. Hell, some would say the Queen ruled the King, with her infinite patience and kindness.

"Are you not treated well here?"

A god. Sebor was stunned into silence for a few minutes as she thought about that information. It would make sense since he had been flying just mere moments ago. Still suspicious, she eyed him as he gave her his name. Talfrid.

"Sebor," she returned, her manners taking over despite her wariness. The question made her snort, and she looked away to roll her shoulders, trying to loosen up. She had never thought about gods before, but the whispers she had heard of them had been fear-instilling creatures. This god was not scary in the least, even if he was huge. He was kind, which was a refreshing breath of air, but very odd all the same.

"Treated well," she echoed, turning to look back at Talfrid. "I am well fed, there is lots of room to roam, dens to be had, water cool and fresh. For things I need to survive, I am very well treated. But this pride has no respect for females. We are den-keepers to them, trophies to be won on raids, good for raising cubs and little else. I think the worst of it is that many of the females I've met are fine with this way of living."

Talfrid watched her, looking calm and perfectly at ease. He could see how tense she was, but he was not there to offer her any harm, and kept a respectful amount of distance between them as he watched her quietly. He would leave if she asked him to, and he certainly would not try to over stay his welcome. He knew some mortals were not as receptive to Gods as others.

"It's very nice to meet you, Sebor. And I do apologize if I caused you a fright. That was not my intention." He smiled easy, shaking his head a bit and fluffing his mane. It often got a little wind blown when he was flying.

He listened as she spoke about the pride, and his expression fell a bit. He knew places like that existed, and for some it was a life they enjoyed. Other prides could certainly establish themselves however they saw fit, but for Talfrid, it was in his nature to treat everyone with respect, and as equals. He was not good at looking down on others, and was not the type to draw that sort of a line between males and females. Though his son was King of the pride he called home, he knew that it was the Queen that held a lot of the power with the people.

"I am sorry to hear that, and that you are unhappy with it. If I could help you in any way, I will certainly try," he bowed his head a bit. "Perhaps you might wish to find a new home? One that is better suited to your personality?"

Sebor lowered her head just a bit as Talfrid spoke. Find a new home...she was sad to admit that the thought had crossed her mind a few times since she had arrived. It would be easy to slip away and she was sure no one would be sad to see her go. But the look on some of the female's faces was what kept her here, the occasional male that didn't think the treatment of the females was right. She knew she could make a difference here with enough lions on her side.

"I would be lying if I said I hadn't thought about that," she admitted. "But they do suit me here. Their demeanor and rough around the edges personalities. It's just this one way of thought that I can't ignore. Seeing the females walk around as they do, and the males strutting about...I need to make them see that this isn't right."

She lifted her head again, a determined look on her face. "I just need help in persuading them. A few friendly faces on my side to help spread the word. There are a few males here with the same mindset but don't speak out for fear of being exiled, I'm sure. The king here is not a kind lion in that respect. You-"

She paused, realizing a bit belatedly that this was a god she was speaking with. Even though she had never met one before, she felt as though a bit of care and kindness with her words wouldn't go amiss. "If you happen to know anyone that might assist me in persuading the lions to change their ways, I'd be very appreciative." She doubted he did, but hey...it never hurt to ask.

Talfrid smiled and nodded his head, admiring her willingness to stay and try to work things out for herself in this home, instead of leaving to find a different one. It was a difficult thing to do, definitely the harder path to choose, but if she liked this home for what it offered, it was only fair for her to try and attain that.

It was not his place to interfere in the business of other prides, especially considering he was of the ruling classes in the Tokakinji and could theoretically start wars if he was not careful. But beyond that, he knew, as a God, he held more power than he was always welcomed to share.

He smiled at her, shaking his head.

"I am not sure what I could do to help persuade them, really. I am just another lion, though I come from a different place." And could fly. "I believe that you have it in you to make this change, and your resources are already around you. Try finding other females that feel as you do. You might not be able to change the entire pride and how it was founded, not all at once at any rate, but change must always start small. You have the power to start a movement, or at least put forward a new idea."

He sat with his head up, his chest out, looking regal and controlled. He watched her with a calmness in his eyes that came from a very long path to patience, and a deeper understanding of the world around him now that he also understood the realms beyond it. He wanted to see her happy, and would help her in any small way that he could, as that was just his nature. They did not call him Chivalry for nothing.

Sebor nodded slightly. Of course...it wouldn't be very chivalrous of him to go in to someone else's home and tell them how to live. She supposed that might be why so many of the Stormborn looked down on her and her ways: because she was an outsider. She had won her way in, certainly, but she hadn't been born and raised there.

A thought suddenly struck her, and despite her confidence, she could feel herself blushing under her fur. "There...is actually a way I just thought of that might be helpful," she said quietly. "Those born here have a stronger say than new 'recruits' if you will, born outside their lands and brought in or who fight their way in, as I did. So...hearing these ideas from those that were born here might help sway some of them."

Sebor paused, clearing her throat. "I don't mean to sound rude in asking, but..." She trailed off, wondering if the god would guess on his own. Shaking her head just a bit at her own foolishness, she pressed on. "I know we hardly know one another, but...honestly cubs. Would be something you could do for me. That would help."

She could raise them with the beliefs she saw fit. The Stormborn way was a proud one, and she appreciated their way of living aside from how they treated females. To have two or three, or even a few more strong males and females growing up and living in the pride as true Vikings...well. It really would help.

If Talfrid was not a genuinely nice guy, he would be the smoothest womanizer on the planet.

Talfrid watched her, tilting his head to the side as she seemed to puzzle through an idea that just hit her. He arched one of his furry eyebrows, trying to suss out where she was going with her explanation before she got there.

It made sense that blood was stronger than anything else. Many prides were based on blood, who was born where and when. Those that 'belonged' to the pride were those that had been raised in it from birth. It was generally true of every pride he visited, including his own. Many even went to war over that kind of an ideal.

He did not seem too surprised by her question, and offered her a smile. As a god, his concept of mortal litters and families had changed dramatically. He was eternal, and his lineage was useful in more ways than simply keeping his legacy alive. His idea of family, then, was all encompassing, and if he was asked by a lady to do something as simple as give them cubs, he had no qualms about it.

"I would be honored to help you, however you see fit. If you believe cubs will help you in your efforts, then I will provide for you. I do not want you to put yourself at risk, and if there are no males in your pride that you can turn to, I am at your service."

Sebor let out a slow breath as the god was both tactful and genuine in his reply. That had gone better than she had expected. Sebor was by no means an old lioness, but she was certainly older than most mothers by this point. She had yet to find a male to stand her ways to stick around long enough to sire her a family, and she had been too occupied with keeping herself alive to worry about cubs. Now, though, she didn't have the latter to worry about, and Talfrid certainly wouldn't be sticking around even if he was a nice guy.

"Yes, I don't think any males here any time soon will be giving me cubs," she said quietly. "So. I thank you in advance for the assistance." She shook her head and cleared her throat just a bit. "Is there anything I can do for you in return? I know you're a god and probably don't need much but...I can't stand to see a favor gone unpaid."

Talfrid smiled and nodded his head, bowing it lower than a normal nod in a show of respect and patience. He was a kind lion, and he did honestly want to help her. He was not sure how the plan would really work out, but then, he was not blessed the the same gift as his mortal children, and could not see the future. He could only do what he could: that was what was important, right?

"This is not a favor that I'm paying you. I simply wish to help you. I am the God of Chivalry. Allowing me to help you is more than I could ask for, and all that I could want. I would like for you to be happy, and for things to get better for you."

He smiled at her and stood up.

Whenever she needed him, he would be there. That was just the way he worked. He was interested in her life, and he wanted to keep an eye on her, though she was far from his home lands. He did not mind that, and if she was to bear his cubs, he would want to know they were alright, as well. He would not interfere any further than she would allow, that was her right, but he was a God, and could fly over head at any time.

Sebor blew upwards just a bit as Talfrid replied, and if she had had any sort of fringe hanging in her eyes it would have shifted from the air. She nodded, though, taking his word for what it was worth. She'd let it go this time, but perhaps later on in life there'd be something she could do for him.

"Well...thank you. No time like the present, I suppose," she added, deciding to treat the next few minutes as professionally as she could. "My den isn't far, if you'll follow me." She turned and headed back in the direction of her home, assuming the god would follow. She let out a slow breath as she walked, keeping her head held high. This was the best she could do, she realized. Raise cubs from start to finish, give them the opportunity to be whoever they were going to be, but let them know that females weren't second class creatures. With Talfrid as their father she was sure they'd be gentle creatures, and with her genes there was no doubt they would fight - even if it was only verbally - for what was right.
