User Image Thick grey winter clouds covered the sky as a gentle snow fell, and no wind blew, an icy blue mare offered a kind thank you glance to the sky for being gentle this day as she walked skillfully through the snow and over ice. Such terrain wasn't new to her living high in the mountains, nor was the bitter chill of the air around her. It was actually much warmer here in comparison.

Forvenniel had seen signs of movement and the gods having asked for her to join those in the south as the winter would be harsh this year, she was here to help the southerners cope. She though she worshiped the winter gods specifically served the Giantess Goddess of Winter Skadi, and so was her rank, Those in the winter temples called her thus as well. But here she realized many did not love the winter the same as she did.

Tall trees surrounded her frost climbing up them in a beautiful frozen pattern glistening like a million tiny diamonds. Icicles hung from the empty branches making the trees quite dazzling. A soft mist coming off a nearby slow moving river. Winter was the most beautiful season for her ever since she was little, yet it needed to be respected for it was quite dangerous. But not to her, she was a winter priestess.

A strange glade of silver trees towered over the regular trees in the wood. What kind of strange place was this? Forvenniel wondered. But it looked beautiful covered in snow and ice, so she approached not knowing a herd resided her, she had come quite a far distance from her home not knowing the boundaries here.

User ImageZoran had been patrolling the bounds of his father's realm. That and he was trying to keep away from his Septa. He was getting tired of all the lessons and the bickering when he did wrong. Cheeks buffing out in frustration, Zoran walked a little faster trying to get everything out of mind. Rounding around one of the many silver trees of his home, Zoran nearly wandered into an approaching mare.

His mind clouded with thoughts of taking over the herd when his father chose to step down. He didn't want it! He wanted to leave and see other things, not take over the herd, why couldn't Zander have it? Snorting to himself he turned his antlered head to one side, his multi-layered wings flicked at his sides. This was indeed frustrating.

Turning that corner, Zander looked up at the strange blue mare that was coming, rather just about upon him. Great, what else could go wrong now? The winter season was upon them and food was low in stocks as it was. They didn't need another mouth to feed. "Who goes there!" He called out to the mare, "What business do you have here?"

They were quite beautiful the trees here, especially covered in the snow. Unfortunately, her admiration of the frozen landscape wouldn't last as she heard a voice call out behind her. Turing the faced the colt? He was small, wasn't he a bit young to be a herd guard? Forvenniel herself was quite large in actuality especially for a mare she was a similar size to large stallions. She couldn't help but laugh a bit at the colt almost amused.

"I am Forvenniel High priestess of Skadi, Child" she began" I come from the north, my goddesses asked me to help those in the south weather the winter," The mare explained. Examining the child, he wore no blankets of the sort, with light arion wings, it was a wonder he wasn't frozen to death. Forvenniel's wings were special having been born in the north. "are your wings not frozen are you not cold?" she asked with some concern though her voice was regally cold and flat despite this beaning a child he would find no warmth from the frozen mare.

If all the herd was like this it's a wonder they had not already frozen to death. But then again perhaps they were better equipped to weather the winter than she had given them credit for.

"Do you know the leader of this herd?" she asked.

Zoran watched this frosty colored mare, her tone matched her to a tee. Snorting a plume of hot air through his nostrils he turned his head to one side. My frustrations keep me warm. Too angry to even notice that its drawing colder." he said turning his face away. "If it is my father you are wishing to speak to, I suppose I could take you to him." It was clear that Zoran had some issues with his father figure, but those were things he was planning on keeping to himself.

Zoran, though head down in a sulk he lead the strange mare further into the grounds. His wings flicked slightly to move the blood through their thin veins. It was indeed growing colder, now that he had stopped to think about it, rather he was told about it. His skin prickled against the chill and it sent a maid scurrying with a cloth to cover the wings, folded upon themselves, and keep the heat close to the body. The yearling shook away from the mare who brought the blanket as he walked on to the 'chamber' his father resided within. "Father, you have a guest. She says she is here to help us weather the winter." He turned his head towards the one that followed him.

The tall ender turned his head, pale hair fell across pink eyes. He snorted and shook them out of the way as his ears tilted towards the voice of his son and the presence of another. Oberon had little to do with blankets, while his own multi layered wings laid against his sides, brocades of cloth did lay over what they could cover. He was almost as brazen as his boy, he bore the cold. "Welcome to my lands." his tone was hard, warlike as he looked the mare over. "So you have come to help us weather the winter. Or so say my heir."

Zoran snorted at the statement. He was no heir, to anything. He wanted free of it all, but his father had put his hoof down on the argument. Standing off to one side, head turned away, but ears ever listening.

Forvenniel could only chuckle he was an interesting child "Careful little one, that is not the wisest, anger often leads to poor decisions." She reminded the child. Arion wings were not as thick as the feathered Lyra they were usually the first to snap. She knew, after all she'd seen it happen more than once, Arion wings were too fragile.

"I am grateful young prince is it?" she gave the young foal a bow. Skadi followed watching the maid try and cover the the foal's wings. The child seemed to dislike his status as prince along with his father, she suspected one caused the other. Forvenniel decided to hold her tongue in the case of chiding the child, that was his mother's job after all. Forvenniel continued to follow Zoran; entering into Oberon's chamber behind the prince. Forvenniel did well to hide her amusement upon seeing oberon, instead of gazing at his strength and beauty she noted how similar he and his son were yet this prince seemed to want nothing to do with his father. Before she was able to introduce herself however and explain her presence her aide and protector came in beside her.

Why did that mare always leave so early? the stallion snorted, didn't she hear of something called sleeping in? Honestly, he was supposed to be her guardian but she never waited for him and just went off on her own. So like a nare, ugh. He hated them, and hated getting this job. Why'd he have to watch the priestess?

Zuzum came cantering up behind Forvenniel "Priestess," he bowed rather crudely to her not bothering to keep the dislike from his voice but took his place behind her as her protector. Zuzum Bowed low to oberon, now there was a male worth respecting. He could only imagine the lord during the summer. Where as the only thing Zuzum had in common with forvenniel was his own love of winter.

"Zuzum," the priestess responded before returning her focus on Oberon. "Your heir is correct your highness," She bowed low to the king "the gods and goddesses of my land have told me the worst of winter is yet to come, and so I may help those in the south your grace." she paused raising a bit.

"I am high priestess with the rank of 'Skadi' after the winter goddess," she motioned to Zuzum "my aide and guardian Zuzum." she promptly finished still remaining low.

Oberon looked down upon those that bowed before him, this he was unused to. Then again, he rarely saw the company of others, aside from his sons and daughter. Turning away from them a moment he looked down at Zoran. The boy would need a higher purpose if he didn't end his tantrums and soon.

Thoughts put aside, he looked back towards the mare and her protector. Stepping off whatever higher ground he was upon, the fairy King smiled at the guests.

"Please, there is little need to bow. Not now at least. I welcome the both of you to the grounds." His wings flicked a little at his sides to keep blood flowing through them. From passers by I have heard that the winter will be long and hard. Our stores weren't as fruitful as previous years."

Calling off to one side, a couple aides brought forth a richly woven cloak. Stringing it over Oberon's back and letting the clasp hang loosely, he turned to Zuzum and Skadi.

"Shall we tour the herd lands so that the both of you can see what we do here?" His question hung in the air as he looked towards Zoran. "To the smiths with you, maybe pounding out hot iron will calm your temper."

Zoran, dismissing his father's actions, knew that if this were any other time he would have suspicions. Why not though? He was a War King and rightfully so. Before coming to rule here, Oberon had sought nothing more than a good fight. Lifting his head up as he was addressed, seeing that his father had dawned the cloak after all he glared. The smiths, his punishment as of late. Pounding metal into plates, swords and what have you. It seemed all he was good for right now.

"Fine, maybe I will work on my shackle making. Seems that is where I might head next." Zoran spat turning away from the trio and headed off towards a ring of trees where smoke flowed evenly and the ringing of metal could be heard.

"I see lord..." Forveniel realized all of a sudden she didn't know the lord's name. "My Apologies." she couldn't help it out of habit she gave a bow. "I know not your name lord king."

That did happen often, Forvenniel gave the fairy king a nod "There are some special provisions that are only available during the winter I will help you find them." certain plants held berries and grew in the winter. They would be helpful to fill the stores of food for this herd."Until then we might have to ration. Winter berries were relatively elusive and grew plentifully up north where she lived. Perhaps if they were lucky they'd find a plant they could cultivate down here.

"Zuzum, Please, can you go see if you can find any winterberries around as a start." she asked gently of her aide. He didn't really care for her but they were here to help another herd.

Zuzum rolled his eyes "I'm Carrying Seed Lady Forvenniel." he reminded her as politely as he could despite his uncaring for this co worker. "We can cultivate them close to the fires of the smithy." That was the logical location where it was warm to begin their cultivation and work up to putting them back into the snow. Where they grow the best.

"Of course!" Forvenniel exclaimed blush a bit and her forgetfulness. she'd forgotten he brought some. How shameful. "My Apologies once again Lord King."

Oberon watched the pair with tactful eyes as it seemed that the one named Zuzum didn't much care for the mare he accompanied. Frowning a little he looked around at what there was of the grounds he was making whole as a herd lands. They were small, but he expected it to grow in the coming spring. When he glanced back towards Forenniel he gave a small grin.

"I do apologize, seems the excitement of hopefully helping my small band of a herd got things going quickly." Oberon chuckled slightly, "You can call me Oberon and I am hardly a king anymore. That time has left me since much was lost getting this far."

Much had been lost, his mate and some of his children had not arrived. He was lucky that Zoran had stuck close, but he wondered where his other son and daughters had gotten off to. But this was not something he was going to openly speak of here. Really he just wanted to get things settled here and the ground works of a real herd started.

"Seeds huh? The forge as much as we have gotten it set up is this way." He motioned with a hoof before turning slightly to his left. Even from where they stood the soft glow of the forge fires could be seen flickering with the movements of those milling around it. Even the clang of hammers against metal rang through the trees like bells.
