The General was on the hunt tonight, as she always was, but tonight she was not looking for her usual targets, the Senshi and Knights of the White Moon. No, her focus had shifted just a bit. Tonight she was looking for others from her own team, the Negaverse, to 'speak' with in her special way. They needed to shape up. They needed to be stronger, better: they needed to be tested and she was just the one to do it. She felt like she was one of the few who really saw the potential of the Negaverse for what it really was, and she saw what they were really meant to be.
She could show them all, one at a time.
Things had changed for her, recently. She was not feeling the same things she used to feel. Her blind adoration of her team was turning into questions and disappointment. She felt like there was so much more for them than they had, and they had wasted far too much time hiding in the shadows. All they needed to do was seize their chance, take the city, take the world. They were simply playing it too safe.
It didn't help that she saw weakness in everything, especially the new recruits and their levels of training. She wanted to take them all and shake them, then hug them and coddle them like a mother hen before throwing them to the wolves. Which, as it so happened, was the plan for the night.
Sensing the aura of a Negaverse soldier near enough by to be teleported to, Painite grinned and did just that, vanishing from her perch to go and find the source of the chaotic aura.

"Painite!" He'd briefly felt the power signature before she moved, popping up unexpectedly with teleportation, and he didn't doubt he looked startled at her arrival. He frequently patrolled alone, and wasn't expecting anyone to seek him out, let alone Painite. He hadn't seen her since... had she been a captain then? They'd crashed the junk yard together, stolen energy from drunk teenagers and salvaged parts. Under the circumstances though, he couldn't help but be a bit... on edge... about being unexpectedly approached by a more powerful officer. He was using that bike now, rather than Redline, who had the bad habit of grabbing at other bikes during races, and he didn't need that on his conscience, not now. Not when all he needed was energy. "What brings you to this part of town?"

The General watched him with her sea green eyes, though tonight they seemed much darker than they should have been capable of. She was prowling, and he happened to appear on her radar. Though he was on her team and was not a target for getting killed or very seriously mauled, she could still use him for entertainment.
She remembered having fun with him, but she wondered if his skills had improved any since then.
"Your aura did, if I'm honest. I was interested in seeing who was out and about, doing their patrols like good little soldiers. Gathering energy and all that, for our cause. You know. The one that uses so much energy because we're so often out and about, eradicating the White Moon. It's going pretty well, I imagine. Except for the whole non-eradicated White Moon bit."
She sighed and tilted her head at him, then she grinned.
"How are you doing in all that. Are you training? You've been with us for a long time now. Aren't you ready for the next step of your power?"

Generals tend to get stabby Zia had said, and the darkness in her eyes made him think of that, and triggered a fine note of concern that went ringing through his skull. "If by training you mean 'has Zinkenite told me lately how much I disappoint him' than no. If by training you mean 'getting in fights and gathering energy'... that I have been doing." To the point it was a nearly endless grind. Fight. Collect. Fight. Collect. "I'm ready for..." He started, frowned and paused, which he knew she could have read anything into, and started again. "I'm definitely ready for something to change, but that's not my call." Change was coming, but possibly not the change she had in mind. Did she know, somehow? Was he going to see the stabby side of Painite? She used to be so... enthusiastic. He remembered kind of liking that about her, but whatever used to fuel that thousand watt smile seemed like it was slowly drowning, any spark of it that he could see now was like a pale, grasping hand reaching out from a sea of chaos. ...God he must be loosing his mind. He was never that poetic.

"That's good to hear, at least. The only real way to get any good at all this is to just do it, over and over, but there are some points that could do with a bit of extra practice now and then."
She watched him, everything she said somehow sounding like it had a double, and likely lethal, meaning to it.
But that was just how she talked. She did not actually suspect him of anything at all. She was messing with him, as she messed with everyone these days, as if she was looking for any reason to snap, to push, to prove herself. Or to make others prove themselves.
"I'd be interesting in seeing what you're capable of, my friend. It's been a long time, and we haven't had any fun recently. We should do that again, you know? Something fun." She grinned at him wickedly. "What do you think? You up for it?" Of course, coming from a General, it was essentially an order.

...Not too long ago he would have dived in without question, but now he was definitely feeling a prickle of suspicion and doubt, wondering what was behind the hoops she had in mind for him to jump though. "Of course I'm up for it." It was really the only answer he could give, anything else would have been... out of character. Possibly lethal. "Show me anyone who thinks I'm not." The heat in his snarl he didn't have to force, or fake at least. He was still angry at the shadow of doubt that hung over him. He'd given them so much, and it was never enough....

Painite grinned at him, then called her spear to her hand. She watched him for a moment, wondering what was going through his head, then the grin, however wicked it had seemed, faded and a much more sinister, far more serious expression fell over her face. She was small, she was dainty, but she looked now as sinister and dangerous as her reputation implied.
"Run from me. Defeat me. Let's see how you fair against a General. No holds barred. Do whatever you think you have to do to survive. Assume that I am going to kill you."
She grinned at him, and did not add any more to it than that. Some might add a disclaimer saying it was just training, and there was nothing to worry about, but not Painite. With her, there was really just no knowing. She watched him, eyes shadowed.
"I'll limit the number of times I teleport, but that's the only perk you get."

His eyebrows shot up for a moment, startled, momentarily uncertain as he tried to dig into the motivations she had for being here, for delivering this dangerous challenge. Then he decided it didn't matter. It didn't matter if she knew what he'd been hiding or not, or if she was just trying to test his strength. He needed to treat this the same way regardless, and that decision snuffed out the glint of uncertainty like a candle as he clenched his fists and narrowed his eyes. "I will defeat you." He promised. "I'll prove nothing I've done has been a fluke!" She knew he'd gone toe to toe with Castor, he was pretty sure. He knew there were those who thought it was just luck, and, by god... he'd make them swallow their doubts. He started almost before the words had finished leaving his mouth, coupling a savage jab at her stomach with a low, equally vicious stomp to try and rake her shin with his heavy boots. Stay close, that was the idea for now, try and stay too close for her to use the spear. Even getting clocked with the shaft would suck less than the pointy end. Generals get stabby.... No kidding...
