"It was over here, Dad..." said Raemos, pointing to the clump of brush in the distance. "Right" said his dad, getting his cudgel ready, "Dragons are dangerous. You do what I say, is that clear?" "Yessir." said Raemos, eager to redeem himself after failing with the Silx in the barn. "Okay. What we do, is we approach stealthily. We want to see if its still there." "Okay." Raemos said quietly, crouching and following his father's lead. "Now..." said his father, gesturing towards the edge of the brush, "You go around back, and be ready for an attack at any moment. If its a Ysali like I'm thinking it was, it'll be sneaky. So it might try to sneak out in the other direction. You understand?" "Yessir!" said Rae, sneaking quickly towards the back of the clump of brush, fed by a small underground spring. He knew it well enough- it was a water source, if a small one. There was a path at the back, a game path stomped out by their herd when they had wandered to this part of the ranch. He lurked by it, sword out, his heart beating with excitement. A dragon hunt! He was on a dragon hunt. A sense of dread washed over him, suddenly. Carefully, dreading what he would see, he looked behind him to see, seemingly looming from the grass... a dragon. That dragon. He wasn't sure about color, but the size and the dark stains of blood around its mouth made it clear to Rae just what he was facing. It seemed to smirk, and Rae screamed as a plant whipped him across the hand, his sword falling to the ground. He made to run around, towards where his father was surely hiding, but a root came up out of nowhere and tripped him. The dragon loomed over him, its sharp claws ready to tear him open, when it suddenly leapt back and into the air, Raemos's father's gloriously winged form crashing down where the dragon had been moments before. The dragon circled for a moment, then flew away, a strand of magic-woven strand catching Mallew around his ankle before he could pursue. He shouted at the dragon, then landed as the grass knot disentangled. "Rae, are you all right?" "I'm sorry dad... I'm sorry." "For what? For getting snuck up on? Son, it's fine. I'll just ahve to teach you better. Come on." he helped the boy to his feet, "Lets get you home.
