 Icy white strands of hair cascaded down the shoulders of a bright blue mare as she looked up into the trees. She was amazed by how peaceful they looked when covered in snow. Everything was so silent and beautiful. In this white world, she stuck out like a sore thumb, but she had to pause to take in her surroundings. Her brothers would be panicking at her actions right now. She hadn't seen them in a while, but she knew if they were here they'd be scouting and setting up a perimeter. It wasn't like she was a princess. But she knew they just wanted something to do. They had something to live up to in their minds.
But Iona was content with seeing things instead of protecting them. Of course there were things she'd protect, but it was important to stop and see things too. After a few moments she continued to walk, enjoying the soft, white snow as it sank beneath her hooves. Although it was cold, it was her first winter, so why not appreciate it?

 It had been some time since his brothers left their home of ice and snow to explore the world on their own, he had even heard that he was a young uncle now! How exciting the world was! always changing, always to the beat of it's own drum. Palieu smiled and inhaled deeply of the crisp Winter air, as a part of the "ice tiger" family he was very acclimated to snow, Winter was his calling and while no one was around he was taking full advantage of the undisturbed powder lying fresh across the land. He snorted and making a rather uncharacteristically cute whiney, charged straight into the snow before him, scattering powder everywhere as he raced around enjoying himself. His muscles were quickly warmed as he used his powerful frame to gallop around the area, leaving huge draggy hoofprints where he had been. He was soon out of breath, great whuffs of hot air escaping his lips into the chilly air, he stood in the middle of his handiwork, beaming all the while, certainly snow was made to have fun in, no matter if you were grown or not.

Suddenly the silent air was disturbed by a whinny. Her ears perked at the noise and curiosity jumped in her chest. She peeked around a snow-caked tree and watched the stallion run around. When he stopped, he looked so proud of himself, so accomplished. She couldn't help giggling. It was too cute, too silly for such a large stallion to be playing in the snow. But it did look like fun.
The air was full of snowflakes from his trampling, and there was a wide circle of footprints around him. She looked back at her own, smaller footprints longingly. Oh what the heck? With a laugh and a whinny, she too took off running in the snow. She made a wider circle around his, a grin on her face the whole time. Her brothers would be freaking out, oh yes they would. But he didn't seem dangerous...after all, vicious predators did not play in the snow. Finally she stopped, her circle now complete. And with an equally ridiculous smile of pride, she looked up at him. "That was fun!"

He didn't see her clearly, he had heard something behind him, turned to look and witnessed a streak of blue and playful laughter flying past him to round the area he had just trampled over. He'd admit it at any time, once he'd got a good look at this visitor he…gawked. She was almost entirely a brilliant bright blue, a sharp contrast to the white blanket of snow covering the area, though her hair seemed to blend right in, she looked every bit like some sort of Winter spirit. He blinked owlishly before clearing his throat and greeting her " Well hello there! Woo~You startled me for a second! That was some running!" He beamed warmly down at her " I'm glad you think it's fun as well, I really enjoy winter and all of this new snow just begs to be played in you know?" He shook his short striped mane of the snowflakes that had settled in " Not many folks come up here actually" He tilted his head at her a little " My name's Palieu, well, Pali for short if you want" He chuckled, the sound rumbling in his deep chest " What's yours?"

She could have giggled again at his expression as he looked down at her with those big blue eyes. She looked back up at him with her own blue eyes, just as intrigued. He was very tall, and the extra fluff around his ankles told her that he was probably used to the cold. She listened to him talk, noting how deep his voice was. It seemed odd that it should be so deep considering she had just witnessed him playing like a foal. She smiled and nodded. "At first I just wanted to look at it, but then I saw you and I just had to join in. I don't see why everyone isn't here!" she laughed, looking around at their circles and sending snow flying from her mane as she did so.
His laugh made her smile more, and she looked back at him eagerly. "My name's Iona. It's nice to meet you Pali," she said with a light giggle. The name was so fitting for him. "So you live here?" she asked, looking around again and feeling envious of his home. The snow had settled and it was peaceful and quiet again. Now it seemed odd that everything should be so quiet. It seemed that the air should be filled with laughter instead of silence.

If he was perfectly honest with himself, he would admit he had never really encountered many females outside of his family circle, and even that was a bit remote. The ice tigers lived in the deep snowy mountains where there wasn't much in the way of visitors so he was quite happy to have this opportunity to interact with someone, he thought it was even better that it was a she~how lucky~
His cheeks colored a bit at the thought and he shooed it away with a flick of his ear " Hah! well i'm delighted you decided to join me then, not to many folks come all the way out here you know, you're the first one i've seen in a very long time" He rumbled with laughter, his deep baritone seeming to come from the earth and right up from there. " Iona~ Iooona~ That's a lovely name" He replied kindly, shuffling the snow off of his long fetlocks before they got too wet. " It's nice to meet you" He nodded at her " Ah, yes, I live in the mountains, there~" He tilted his head towards the high peaks of the snowy ridges, it's fairly pleasant and there is a lot of snow, but it's rather quiet with my older brothers gone." His ears perked forward, the silence blanketing the area, he had heard enough silence for the day, today was a day for sound he decided! " Hummmm~" he hummed, the sound so low it seemed it would shake the snow about him. " The thing about snow is it's so darn quiet when there's no one around to share it with, it wants everyone to hush" He smiled down at her again, his blue eyes bright.

Besides her father and her brothers, Iona had not had much interaction with stallions. She hadn't ever thought of it before, nor had she gone out of her way to talk to them or not talk to them. Perhaps it was just that before she had been too young to care. But now she found her eyes resting on his muscles and she couldn't help blushing. "Maybe you don't see anyone because you don't get out enough," she joked playfully, looking at the mountains. He was surprised to have company, how far had she traveled since she had last seen her family?
Her ears swiveled momentarily at the sound of his humming and it felt as though the deep rumbling of his voice was inside her. Butterflies fluttered from the vibrations of his humming and she wondered how he had known she had been wishing for some sounds other than silence. "Hmmmmm" she hummed with him, her voice much higher than his. As his tones shook the earth, hers bounced off the snow filled trees. It was a nice contrast, and she quite enjoyed it. "Well, we mustn't let it silence us," she said with a wink. "What else do you do for fun out here?" she asked curiously, meeting his gaze once again.

He exhaled a breath he hadn't know he'd been holding, a great waft of steam curling from his lips into the crisp air " Haha, perhaps you are right Iona, I do not often leave the solace of the mountains, my older brothers have roamed far, perhaps I am still a colt in a stallions body, enchanted by the snow" He smiled warmly " I'm sure you don't often see guys as large as me traipsing through the drifts like this~ Ah, i'm the youngest, but the largest, isn't that strange~?" He continued humming until their voices were one and the whole area vibrated with it. He laughed, a deep, good laugh that nearly shook the snow from the tree tops " Ah well, to be honest when not playing in the snow I go out looking for animal dens and make sure they have enough shelter and food to eat, The little souls around here trust me so I like to help out when I can." He blinked down at her with his baby blues " Though…I guess that isn't necessarily "fun" uhhh…" He fidgeted a bit, an awkward movement for so large a stallion " We could try and chase the family of rabbits yonder, they tend to get pudgy, and I don't want them to be out of shape if a fox gets tempted" he grinned crookedly, charming " So I give them some much needed exercise."
" What do you like to do for fun?" He questioned, a stray wind tickling his mane and tail

It was cold, but the warmth of his voice and smile kept her from shivering. "You're right," she laughed, "It's not typical of large, burly stallions to be seen playing in the snow." She was grateful that they were not all like her brothers, serious and protective. Pali knew how to have fun, and she needed some fun.
"Won't they be afraid if we chase them?" she giggled. The idea sounded fun, but she didn't want to cause any rabbit heart attacks. She smiled at his generosity in helping the smaller creatures. Were she not busy exploring she might have done the same at home. It sounded like fun to her, even if most would not consider it to be. She thought about his question. What did she do for fun? Back home there wasn't much to do. As a filly she had always tried to play with her brothers, but they were odd foals and weren't very interested in typical play or fun. "To be honest, I haven't had much to do until I found this lovely snow...and you," she smiled back at him, giggling at his crooked grin. He was just too cute.

"Hmm, well they do about loose their tailfluff when they see me coming towards them! But I think some of them have gotten wise to the game and enjoy the chase!" He chuckled and flicked an ear " what what? no fun? I mean, there isn't much to do around here, you kind of have to make your own fun out of what the land gives you. But no fun at all? dreadful miss, just dreadful!" He shook suddenly, inhaling a deep breath and glancing up at the sky to see little snowflakes coming down from the heavens. " Wah~ look there Iona, the snow is coming to replace the stuff we just ran through!" He looked back down at her "We'd better get a move on or we'll be popscicles soon enough!" He laughed and started forward at a gentle canter, his stripes bright against the bright white of the landscape. " Maybe there's more fun out here somewhere~ or at least we can find it betwixt the two of us, what do you think?"
