Lex had, yet again, wandered away from house construction to help out with things at the main part of the island. He figured that it'd be nice to help repair the main facility, rather than just his own residence.

"Go paint a wall or something." He'd been told by a Hunter, and was handed a bucket of paint and a paintbrush. He shrugged and headed to the nearest intact wall he could find.

The Lifer was no Picasso, but he could at least paint in a straight line.

When a passing Hunter had told him to be useful and paint a wall, they doomed themselves. Really, they should have known better than to put Jeremy in charge of painting; he could barely think in a straight line let alone put a brush to a wall. By the time another someone had made the mistake of giving him a can of paint and a brush, he was grinning from ear to ear.

Today was going to be the best day ever!

No.

The second best day! Oh but this would be pretty good...Okay so it was the second best, but sometimes the first best. Yes, that worked. Jeremy nodded to himself as he decided on how great today was, and then he sauntered off to find a wall to draw on. Paint. Whatever. After that it took him all of two seconds to realize that he wasn't alone; there was someone behind him and a little down the hall. Yay, a friend!

"Oh, hello! They let you draw too?" He didn't even bother correcting himself, and after quite literally dropping his paint bucket to the ground he turned to give the stranger a very large, toothy grin.

...Draw? Lex gave the other Hunter a quizzical look, taking note of his Sun coat. Probably a bit of brain damage to him, but... hell, he needed some fun every once in a while. Cracking a smile the man nodded, holding up his paint brush. "Yup! What's your name?" He asked, inching closer to the sun.

"COOL! Whattcha drawin? I'm thinking of a giant mural. I'm not sure of what yet though." Lex wasn't too far off with his hypothesis of brain damage. Jeremy hadn't been the same since his podding, though few would remember the once delinquent teen. At the moment he was staring at the boring old wall, holding his hands like a photographer looking for the perfect shot, except that one eye was closed and his tongue was caught between his lips. More like a child about to draw than a photographer.

"I'm thinking oranges. Maybe a whole fruit platter." Nobody had told him the paint he had was off-white, and so far he hadn't bothered to look. "Or ducks." The teen nodded seriously to himself, dropping his arms and turning to stare at the Lifer as if he just noticed he was there.

"...Oh! Jeremy. Jeremy White! Nice to meet....uh, you?"

Lex smiled and nodded slowly, reminded of one of those super hyper everything is awesome kind of people that crowded the band room during lunch breaks in highs school, the same kids he'd often snigger at with his group of rich friends with their rich kid food while shooting the s**t in their rich kid cars. Heh, he would kill to be one of those kids now, blissful and pretty much ignorant of the world's problems.

"Lex. Good to meet you too, Jeremy." He said with a smile, shaking hands with the younger man. Now then, to the wall. "Hmm...ducks sound good. Maybe we could even make a duck with a little scythe, and one with a whip? Haha, we'd probably be killed for that..." He chuckled loudly, holding up his own beige paint can. Dull duckies they'd be.

Jeremy's eyes widened at the suggestion. Ducks with little whips and scythes?! "...Genius!" Those wide eyes of his turned to regard the boring old wall as if they were now bursting with incredible promise. This was his new favourite thing to do, which wasn't all that impressive because before this, staring into space was his new favourite thing to do. Before that it was trying to reduce a leaf to just its veins. He had a lot of new favourites all the time.

"Pshaaaaaaw~" He waved the death worry off, though clearly a few seconds delayed. "Who would kill us over death ducks? Or Indiana Jones ducks? Hey do you think there could be a Xena duck? Xena was bad. a**.." For a moment his eyes went wide - not with wonder, but with fear - and he looked around as if his words had summoned someone. When he realized he was safe, he let out a heavy sigh of relief and continued on as if nothing happened, which meant opening his very obviously off-white paint can.

"...Aww man, dude, they gave me white paint!" He groaned out his words, his posture instantly slumping as though his whole day was ruined. Which it was. "Ducks are yellow, at least." He pouted down at the offending paint can, which sat innocently between his knees. Hrm. Hrmrmrmrm. How to fix this...

"...Do you know where we could find food colouring? Or maybe some bananas?"

"Mmm... My guess would be the cafeteria, but I highly doubt they'd even serve drops of food coloring right now. All we would get there is cardboard coated in tar." Lex shrugged, small smile ever etched into his features. At least he wouldn't have to go through with this duck thing...

Oh. Oh he was sad. Jeremy looked on the verge of crying, thanks to a lack of yellow in his life. Lex freaked inwardly, grasping at straws. Crying was bad, crying was always bad.

"Oh! They can be... albino ducks! The most rare duck!" The older man exclaimed, painting one on the wall for an example. "See? Super 'bad a**.'

"And I think some of the plants around here are fake, so we can't even make green." Jeremy continued to lament, very unhappy that their quest for colour was quickly failing. Deus could be so incredibly boring...though he did have to acknowledge that coloured paint was probably more expensive than white wash.

Lex saved the day with his brilliant idea, and in that moment the crisis was momentarily averted. Albino ducks. Ninja albino ducks. "...Polar bears in the snow?" He suggested after a moment, looking off into the distance with a wide-eyed curiousity before he grinned widely once more.

"You're brilliant, dude! I like you." By a miracle he went silent after that, mostly because he was rather focused and invested in painting the fattest ducks he could on the wall in front of him. And then he started to outline what was probably a bear (but also kind of looked like a horse, or a rock with noodles), that looked like it was about to eat said ducks.

"Do you smoke?" He asked suddenly, breaking the silence.

Lex sat back and admired Jeremy's handiwork for a few short seconds, grinning at the imagination of the man boy. He found himself liking the guy's innocence about the whole matter, just wanting to paint ducks and bears on a white wall with white paint - a refreshing breeze from the strife and animosity that was the usual on the island.

"Smoke? Nope, not really. More of a drinker..." Lex trailed off, realizing how long it'd been since he'd had a good cocktail. Six months now? Maybe longer. He'd no time to go out to bars whenever they got leave. Ami wanted to get groceries and clothing, and Lex never objected to necessities, but good Lord did he need some whiskey soon. "How about you? What's your poison?" He asked while painting a rather large, ambiguous dinosaur.

"I used to smoke a lot. I kinda miss it." Only he didn't, because he remembered being very, very grumpy back then. "Drinking was fun, I think. I don't remember much..." He squinted at the wall for a moment, first trying to remember his drinking days but then trying to think of what else to paint on the wall.

"Uhhh now? I just....fish." His uncertain tone was more for the wall than Lex, and after a while he leaned over to peek at the other man's work, with an expression that was closer to a kid trying to cheat on a math test. Oooh, dinosaurs! GOOD PLAN.

Jeremy started drawing them too.

"With rubber duckies." He added, feeling it was very important.

"Always duckies." Lex chimed in, adding details to the dinosaur. Horns, teeth, spikes... wings. Okay, maybe it was more of a dragon than a dinosaur, but either way they were both massive reptiles, right? The only difference was that he'd actually seen a dragon...

"How weird would it be if there were a rubber duck monster? That'd be an insane fight..." Lex drifted off, painting up and down over and over again, making a very thick vertical line of beige. "I wonder if there are monsters made from the fear of someone's bad ideas."
