Biroki was out walking again. It was strange how dulled he felt sometimes- he supposed it was because his magic was settling down a bit. That was a good thing. When it was calm, it was controllable, and the thing about fire and lightning was that they were uncontrollable energetic forces- they had to be controlled otherwise they became unruly and dangerous to wielder, friend, and foe alike. He'd been practicing off and on, but mostly off ever since he'd started (mentally and physically) preparing for the fatherhood on the horizon. He hadn't yet told Reshel, and he knew he should. The man was a healer, for Serin's sake. He'd have all sorts of advice. A rustle in the brush caught his ear and he froze, listening around him, his heart beating wildly in the quiet din of the rainforest. Nothing. He readied his staff, only to relax as he saw a maglardilla emerge, grazing. They, at least, were harmless. Another joined it, and he smiled, rolling his shoulders to loosen them. He crouched down, staying still so as not to startle them. He had always thought that the creatures were adorable. They would make a good pet for him- they looked as silly as he felt sometimes- but he had never actually thought he could keep a pet. They were a lot of responsibility and didn't always behave. Though... now that he was thinking about it, he did help to take care of Belle. And, he was about to be a father, which was a lot of responsibility itself and he would have to, ready or not, step up to doing that. So maybe he was capable of a pet after all. That was something to consider for the future. Maybe after the child? Was there an after? Maybe during the child, then. Either thought was intimidating simply because it contained the word 'child' and all the crazy things that it implied. That he, wimpy stammering Biroki had somehow managed to reproduce. He felt like the whole thing was more Zuri's thing than his. Well, it was, she was the one that had to deal with actually being pregnant. And it wasn't like he had had nothing to do with it- he knew where babies came from. But in the end, he felt as though he was really too weak. It was Zuri's strength that had made... it... happen. Speaking of Zuri, her appetite was increasing. She ate a lot- as much as he did, actually (he had magic to support)- but now she was eating more than ever. She was too nice to grumble about it, but Biroki knew that pregnant people ate more. That made sense- they had another life to feed and grow inside them. He'd been trying to eat less so that there would be more for her- the least he could do- but maybe... He looked at the maglardillas as they grazed peacefully on the brush. Maybe he should bring home some supplementary food. He took his stave and aimed carefully, charging the tip with crackling energy as he held his other arm out for balance. He aimed, aimed, and fired a bolt of sizzling lightning at one of the maglardillas, striking it in it's carapace. It dropped, dead, to the ground, as its partner, startled, flew away. Biroki sent another lightning bolt after it and ran to try to intercept it, but it was gone into the jungle. He shrugged. Well, one was something. It was better than the string of failures he so often got. He hefted the warm and twitching bug into his bag and continued gathering.
